I stopped at the music store in the mall on my way home from work, not that it was out of the way considering I worked just down another corridor in the massive building. As I was turning, that's when I saw the first thing that made my heart pause that day.

Next to the display of Three Days Grace posters, there was a bin of equal size that had various posters of my most favourite singer of all time. I was shocked, to say the least, since his main market had always been in Germany, and in his home country of England. The only reason I had his albums was because I spent the extra money and bought them from the UK version of amazon.com. I was pulled from my thoughts by a voice: "Fan of Declan, are you?"

I turned sharply causing a slight crick in my neck. "Er, yeah. I've been a fan of his for a couple of years."

"I could tell. There's been people coming in and staring at that bin all day. I've already had to refill it twice, so if you want any of those posters, you might want to grab them now because I'm seriously starting to run low." He offered me a smile that told me that he knew more than he was letting on.

I couldn't help but wonder just how many people had stopped and stared at the bin, and the lifesize cardboard cutout of Declan Galbraith that stood behind it. I walked slowly to it, almost as if it had some sort of religious reverance. I watched as my hand dipped into the bin and pulled out a bundle of posters. Here I was, standing in the middle of the the biggest music store in the state and I was shaking from head to finger to toe. There's nothing that could have wiped the smile off of my face at that moment. As I walked to the counter I was lost in my own little world, the beep of the register sounding as if it were coming through a styrofoam wall. He once again pulled me back, and told me the price. As I started to dig through my wallet and pull out the appropriate bills, I noticed a smaller poster behind the cashier. What I saw on that pin-up made the blood run to my feet and pool there. My heart stopped for the second time that day. I read and reread the poster a couple of times before it sunk in.

Barnes Arena

I saw the kid ringing me up turn around and glance at the poster. He turned back with a smile. I couldn't tell if he was smiling because he made the connection or because of the look on my face, which I'm sure was quite humourous. As far as I knew, this was Declan's first tour in the States, and he was coming to my town. The concert was still a month or so away, but I knew I had to get tickets. I didn't care what this kid thought of me, or what any of my friends or co-workers said, I was going to see Declan perform in concert!

"Is this all, sir?" The guy asked.

"Um, no, I don't think so. Do you sell tickets to the concerts you advertise?" I asked, the trepidation evident in my voice.

"Huh? Oh, yeah we do. What concert do you want tickets for?"

"D- Declan Galbraith please. 2 tickets." Oh My God! My voice was shaking not only with fear, but excitement. He pulled out a booklet and flipped to the page that had the Barnes Arena seating chart and asked what I preferred. The tickets this store sold were any seats that were listed in purple, and any that didn't have a red line through them, were still open. I found two seats that were fairly close to the front and asked for them. The guy nodded and typed a couple of things into the computer and two tickets popped out below the counter. He put them in a seperate envelope, like one you get from the bank when you make a withdrawl at the drive thru. He gave me the new total, I paid and went on my way.

Once I was out of the mall, I pulled my cell phone out of my pocket and called my best friend in Florida and told him that he needed to be here on the 15th, because he and I had plans. No matter how hard he begged to find out what was going on, I wouldn't tell him. It was a surprise.

"You sound like a broken record, man." Said Joe.

"Fine, I'll see what I can do. I can't promise that I'll get that weekened off, but I'll try alright?"

We disconnected, and I drove home on auto pilot. I heard Joe's groan before I could ask if he got it yet. "Declan? In the States? Tickets?"

"Yup." It was all I could say.

"This fucking sucks! I'm quitting my job tomorrow." Joe whined.

"Joe, come on, be sensible man. If he's coming now, he'll be back. And besides, he could be in Florida sometime on this tour. Who knows."

"Yeah, you've got a point. Well, have fun. My boys are here tonight, so I've got to get going."

"Alright man. Tell them I said hi, and give them hugs and kisses from me."

"Will do bud."

I heard the click before I could say See Ya, but that was ok. I knew he was upset. I threw myself down on my bed and stared at the ceiling. Everything was taking a whole new spin now. Friday

I worried as I made my way over to the gentleman. I fought the urge to run several times. Finally when I reached him, he asked to see my ticket. I held it out with a shaking hand, and he assured me that nothing was wrong. The machine beeped, then beeped again, and the flashing red light continued. "Follow me, sir." The gentleman spoke kindly.

If I ran, I knew I'd look even guiltier than they thought I was. So I followed him. I was taken back into a room, where there was only one table. The man went over to it, picked something up, and walked back to me and put it in my hand. The smile on his face was so obvious I knew he wasn't trying to hide it. I looked down at my hand and felt my jaw drop. It was a lanyard, with a plastic card holder at the end. It had a big laminated picture of Declan Galbraith in it, with his name and the fancy design under it. In black letters across the bottom it read "BACKSTAGE PASS."

Finding my seat, I realized that more people had heard of Declan than I thought, but both seats around mine were empty. I knew one was Joe's, and again felt sad that he couldn't be here. I never thought Declan would be shy or... insecure isn't the right word, but along there. But here he was, blushing at the small compliments from me. "Yeah, I'm sure." I watched as he made his way over to the stool and sat down. He proceeded to play "Nothing Else Matters" by Metallica, but I'll be damned if he didn't turn that song into his own. It was amazing, and I said so when he finished playing and singing. He blushed slightly again, and started playing "I Think I Love You." Another great song that he made his own.

"You know Declan, I was wondering," I ventured when he finished that song. "Could you sing Danny Boy for me? It's my all time favourite song that you've done." And to my surprise, he didn't blush, but went right into singing it... acapella.

My face went red as I read the same words on the backstage pass that Declan had signed for me. But before Joe could ask, he saw the ticket number, and the matching number on the backstage pass.

"That was my ticket."

"Yup."
