Long before the internet existed, LGBTQ+ stories were stashed under beds: pictures, letters, and sticky magazines. They were secret, hidden, private. Some time later, Nifty saw its early days during the age of pre-internet computer networks. The internet then expanded our reach to two million people every month who can now read any of the three hundred thousand stories and to share their own tales independently, without the need for a publisher.
Welcome now to the first issue of Nifty Life Magazine, a project dedicated to highlighting the human element of our craft. Read more about the human experiences and efforts that shape Nifty's infrastructure and the stories brought from the stash under the bed directly to your screen. Nifty is not a digital machine; it's the effort of a community of human hearts.
We contacted four of the authors most read and loved by gay people around the world. We asked them what's in their soul and brain, their human core, when they write those stories that you love.
The Archivist has single-handedly maintained the site for years: read more about how it started, how it works, and what quirks you may not know about. There's now a handful of people helping out, whom you'll be able to read about in the next issues.
Thank you for reading Nifty and being part of the community: you help us weave the stories that make our history. Thank you for being who you are. These are the stories that unite us in what makes us human.
Be yourself, be Nifty.
