You're Not Better Than Me

Chapter Fifteen

Eric was quiet on the ride to get dropped off at work, just looking out the window. Bart sat in the statue posture he would assume whenever he was worried, his legs together and his hands together in his lap. Eric got out at the store and looked back at Bart then walked to the store.

Bart's Mother was in the kitchen when he got home.

"Have a nice day as school, Bart?"

"It was not bad, it was not good just interesting."

"Anything you want to talk about?"

"Not really. I am going to be in my room."

Bart headed up stairs with good intentions of starting his homework. He sat at his desk and opened his book but could only stare at the page, reading the same line over and over, not remembering what he read. Discouraged, he slammed his book closed and went to lie on his bed. He was staring at the ceiling trying to wrap his head around kissing Morgan at school. It was different than kissing Eric but at the same time, it was very similar. Soft lips, a wet tongue, pressing their faces together, feeling her breath from her nose on his cheek,. It was arousing but it shouldn't have been. He knew he was gay and that lifestyle does not include kissing members of the opposite sex. He hadn't kissed her out of desire, just to put on a show for the other cheerleaders to prove that she wasn't gay. But there was something in that kiss that told him that Morgan was not acting either. She didn't seem tense or repulsed, but was at ease and definitely returned the kiss. Had they both made assumptions about their sexuality that has been wrong all this time? And why was Eric not talking. He seemed upset but there was no need to be. Bart had taken the initiative to save their plan and thought Eric would have been pleased. As much as Eric had talked about Morgan's ass, maybe he wanted to be the one to kiss her?

Bart was going to be awake all night over thinking everything. He got up and went to his bathroom medicine chest and took a dose of cold medicine. He didn't have a cold but the medicine always made him drowsy. He went back to bed and waited for the cold medicine to kick in.

Eric's mother called Carol the next morning to tell her that Eric was riding to school with Pete. She said they hadn't had a chance to talk lately and thought this would give them the opportunity to do so. Bart picked at his breakfast, trying unsuccessfully to convince his Mother that there was nothing wrong. He was just tired and not talkative.

"So, little brother, what's on your mind?" Pete asked as they left the house.

"I'm confused about Bart."

"How so?"

Eric explained their plan to hang with the two girls to avoid being labeled as gay.

"Figures you would come up with something like that," Pete laughed. "Bart didn't want to gp along?"

"All four of us thought it was a good idea. Yesterday some of the other cheerleaders were harassing Kayla and Morgan, insisting they were lesbos."

"Let me guess, Carrie and Denice?"

"Yeah, those were the two."

"Both of them are bitches that think they know everything about everybody. Don't pay them any mind."

"Bart felt he had to do something so he kissed Morgan right in front of everyone to prove he and Morgan were boyfriend and girlfriend."

"Wow. That was quick thinking. He must have hated it, though."

"That's what I thought. At first it was just a kiss peck on the lips. But then they smiled at each other and he went back for more. This time he was hugging her and giving her a tonsil massage."

"Probably just part of the act? You know like kissing an aunt of something."

"No, he practically sucked her face off. A kiss on the cheek or the forehead is an auntie kiss. They went at it for a least two full minutes. Then they both smiled at each other again."

"Are you afraid Bart might be changing his attitude towards girls and your loosing your lover?"

"I don't know what to think."

"Have you talked to him about it?"

"No. I'm still pissed that he would kiss her like that right in front of me. It was like cheating, if you know what I mean."

"Yeah, I know, but you won't get this settled until you talk to him. Today is the day you go over to his house for the afternoon, right?"

"Usually."

"Then sit down and have a heart to heart talk and get this settled before it get out of hand and it can't be fixed."

"Okay. Thanks for the talk and the advice."

"Any time," Pete replied then snickered.

"What's so funny?"

"Never in a million years did I think I would be giving gay relationship advice to anyone, let alone my little brother."

Eric punched him on the arm.

"I just hope it's good advice."

Eric and Pete got to school just as the limo was pulling away from the curb.

"Go ahead, there's Bart headed for the front door."

"Not here, someone might overhear our conversation. I'll wait until after school when we're alone."

Eric slow walked to the front door, giving Bart time to get inside first. He was half expecting Bart to wait inside for him but Bart was nowhere to be seen. In a way, Eric was glad. He was nervous about talking to Bart, not knowing what to say or how to start the conversation.

Eric managed to casually avoid Bart most of the day. He skipped lunch and hung out in the library. When school was over, Eric went outside and saw the limo waiting at the curb. He walked over to it and opened the door to find the back seat empty. Patrick, the limo driver, lowered the divider window and told Eric that Bart had a dentist appointment and had left school early with his Mother. He was to give Eric a ride to his house. Eric closed the door and slumped in the back seat. Before Patrick closed the divider window, he turned to face Eric.

"I've been a chauffeur for twenty five years now, most of that time driving for Bart's family. The one thing I have learned is that no matter what road I chose to travel, there will always be bumps on that road, maybe small ones, maybe big ones, but there is no way to avoid them. Once you have got past the bumps in the road, it becomes a smooth ride until you hit the next bump. Get past this bump and things will smooth out for the two of you."

Patrick smiled then put the window back up to leave Eric alone to contemplate what Patrick had said.

Pete was already home when Eric got dropped off at home..

"Did you and Bart talk?" Pete asked.

"No, his Mother had taken him to a dentist appointment. Patrick dropped me off. I'll call him tonight, although I'd rather talk in person."

"Someone here can give you a ride. Just say the word, little brother."

"Thanks."

Eric called right after supper. Bart's Mother answered and told Eric that Bart was sleeping. She would give him the message to call Eric when he woke up. Eric listened for the phone to ring all evening but there was no call. Eric went to bed confused and concerned about Bart's behavior. Eric wanted to talk and move past this but it seemed like Bart didn't.

The next morning, the limo pulled up in front of Eric's house. He ran out and opened the door to once again find the back seat empty. Patrick already had the window lowered and told Eric that Bart wasn't going to school today. He wasn't feeling well so his Mother kept him home. Eric would have taken the bus this morning if he knew earlier but the bus had already come by his house. He had no choice but to accept the ride. When he got to school he told Patrick he wouldn't need a ride again until further notice. Eric could see this feud, or whatever you call it, was going to continue.

Bart was at school the next day but both boys did their best to avoid one another. Eric had resigned himself to accept that their relationship was over. Bart was seen several times through the day talking and joking with Morgan. Kayla on the other hand was also avoiding Eric. Eric was slipping into a mild depression much like he had done when Bart had traveled to Europe.

Mid morning on the following Friday, the fire alarm sounded between classes while all the students were in the hallways headed to their next class. The teachers herded everyone out of the nearest exit and told them to assemble outside. Half the student body was on the south side of the building, the other half on the north side. By chance, Eric was on the north side and Bart was on the south side. Heavy black smoke was seen coming out of the school but there was no fire visible.

The furnace in the basement had shut down, as it was prone to due on occasion. It was scheduled to be replaced this coming summer after school was out. Mr Philips had seen the janitor pressing the reset button to get the burner in the furnace to restart. That usually did the trick. Mr. Philips took it upon himself to go and try to restart the furnace in the absence of the janitor. He pressed the reset button and the burner tried to fire but it wouldn't. Mr. Philips pressed the reset button several more times, not realizing he was filling the firebox with unburned fuel. The last time he pressed the reset button, the burner finally fired, igniting all the unburned fuel and causing an explosion inside the furnace, blowing the burner right off the front of the furnace. The supply line for the fuel broke, spewing fuel all over the boiler room. The ensuing fire was quickly filling the room with heavy acrid smoke that quickly found its way to the ventilation ductwork, spreading the smoke throughout the school.

"Please report how many students you have on your side," the assistant principal asked over her two-way radio to the gym teacher on the other end of the radio.

He reported back the number of students and teachers to her. She added her count and confirmed everyone was out of the building, all except Mr. Philips.

"Have you seen Mr. Philips?" she asked him.

"I saw him headed to the boiler room shortly before the big bang but I haven't seen him since. He may still be in the building, maybe in the boiler room."

"Oh my god! Let me know if you see him. The fire department is fighting a house fire on the other side of town but are sending whoever they can spare."

Eric and Bart, on different sides of the building, overheard the conversation on the two-way radios. Mr. Philips had always been Eric's favorite adult at the school. He knew he couldn't stand by and let him possibly die in the fire and smoke. Eric's response was quick and decisive, if not impulsive. He slipped away and ran to the back of the building to the door used to enter the school from the athletic fields. He knew the boiler room was situated between the boy's and girl's locker rooms. This path would take him to the boiler room quicker than going through the main entrance. He entered the girl's locker room and worked his way to the back where there was an access door to the boiler room. It was locked so he back tracked to the main door to the locker room and entered the hallway. He was about to run back to the boiler room when the door to the boys' locker room opened. Bart ran out into the hallway and stopped short when he saw Eric. The two boys stopped dead in their tracks and looked at one another.

"What are you doing here?" Eric yelled.

"The same objective as you, I would assume."

They realized that they had both made the impulsive and dangerous decision to go into the smoke filled build to save Mr. Philips.

"I would suggest we move on with extreme haste," Bart suggested.

In that moment all the drama of the last few days was forgotten. They smiled at each other, exchanged high fives and headed towards the door to the boiler room together.

They felt the door to see if it was hot. Feeling it was only warm, they felt confident they could open the door without getting a face full of fire. Mr, Philips had been headed towards the master panel to shut down the furnace as it exploded. The force threw him against the wall, knocking him unconscious. The boys rolled him on his back and slapped his face to bring him to. He woke up coughing, putting his hand to his forehead to feel the gash he suffered when he fell. The boys each grabbed an arm to help him to his feet. The heat from the fire and the smoke was oppressive so they knew they had to get moving quickly.

"Come on, Mr. Philips, we have to get you out of here," Eric hollered.

"Yes, we have to get out of here. How did you get here?" Mr. Philips asked taking his hand down from his head and looking at the blood from his wound.

"It doesn't really matter now. The only thing that matters is getting out of here." Eric said.

They left the boiler room, closing the door behind them. They were running down the hallway, Eric guiding them to the girl's locker room.

"I know you have an affinity for the girl's locker room but there is less smoke going through the boy's locker room," Bart said straight-faced with his dry humor.

They entered the boy's locker room and found the smoke was just as thick in there as well. Eric grabbed three towels and soaked them in the sink, handing one to each of them to cover their noses and mouths.

"I do not believe these wet towels will provide be sufficient protection against this smoke," Bart argued.

"It will help but we have to keep moving," Eric yelled as he pulled Mr. Philips with him.

Bart obliged and the three of them held the towels over their faces and ran for the side door of the school, helping to steady Mr. Philips who was still a little wobbly on his feet. When they got to the foyer at the outside door, Eric pushed open the door letting the fresh air hit them in the face.

"Thank you boys for getting me out of there alive," Mr Philips told the boys.

Two firemen ran to meet them and help them down the stairs and away from the school building.

"Is there anyone else left inside?" one of them asked.

"No, Bart and I and Mr. Philips were the last ones as far as we know." Eric said in a halting speech, trying to catch his breath and take in as much fresh air as he could.

"You three come with us to the rescue unit. You need oxygen and that cut needs attention."

The fireman was leading them to the rescue unit when the assistant principal approached them.

"Thank god you're okay, Mr. Philips. And you two boys, I thought you were safely outside when we did a head count?"

"I guess they missed us. It was a good thing Mr. Philips helped us to get out of the building."

An EMT cleaned and bandaged Mr. Philips head and put oxygen masks on all three. After catching his breath, Mr. Philips pulled is mask way and looked at Eric.

"Eric, I'm still not exactly clear on what happened?" he asked.

"Mr. Philips, you were dazed from the bump on your head and are still confused. We know what happened and we will make sure everyone knows how you saved the school and us."

Mr. Philips sat quietly in deep thought, looking back and forth between the boys.

The fire chief and the sheriff walked up to where the three were sitting on the rear bumper of the rescue unit. The sheriff smiled and shook his head from side to side.

"You two again. I bet you had nothing to do with anything here and were just innocent bystanders," the sheriff said with a smirk.

"What exactly happened?" the fire chief asked.

"Mr. Philips had gone to the boiler room to shut off the emergency switch for the furnace. He heard us yelling for help in the boy's locker room and guided us out of the building," Eric quickly explained.

'Is that what happened, sir?" the chief asked Mr. Philips.

Mr Philips just touched his head and looked down at the ground.

"Don't bother probing any further, that's all you going to get out of these two. I've dealt with them before," the sheriff chuckled.

The EMT's told the boys they wanted to take Mr. Philips to the hospital to have his head x-rayed. They wanted the boys come as well to have their lungs checked. Both boys tried to refuse treatment. They stood up and started to walk away from the rescue and back towards the crowd of students but the sheriff stopped them.

"You two are going to do as the EMT says. You get in the rescue unit and I will get your parents and meet you at the hospital."

The boys were walking back towards the rescue unit when Bart spotted Morgan in the front of the crowd of students that had gathered.

"Excuse me for a minute, Bart said to Eric and went over to Morgan.

Eric watched intently, ignoring what anyone was saying to him as Bart gave Morgan a long hug, said something in her ear then headed back to Eric. He didn't kiss her, but there was something going on between them Eric surmised. Bart came back over to get in the ambulance. Just as Bart was about to step in, Eric's impulsiveness took control again. He wasn't going to let go of whatever happened in the hallway when they came upon each other. He grabbed Bart's head and pulled him in for a passion kiss. A kiss that Bart would forever refer to as a 'Morgan two minute special'. A murmur arose from the students near by as Eric revealed their secret to everyone. Bart was caught of guard but only for a moment. He returned Eric's kiss with even more passion.

Eric broke the kiss and the boys climbed in the ambulance to the road of applause and cat calls from their friends.

"So, I can safely assume that you no longer wish to keep our relationship a closely guarded secret?" Bart asked.

"I don't care who knows we are a couple as long as you and I know." Eric replied with an ear to ear grin. "I have missed you and never want there to be any question about us again."

"I concur. I have been miserable these past few days. As always has been the case with us, it only took putting our lives in danger once more to realize how much we really mean to each other."

The boys held hands all the way to the hospital. Their favorite nurse met them at the entrance to the emergency room.

"Hello again, boys. Are you trying to accumulate frequent flyer miles here?" she joked. She attended to Mr Philips, then guided the boys to a waiting area. "The ER Doctor will be with you in a minute. Try to stay out of trouble until he sees you, will you?"

The ER Doctor examined the boys and suggested they get chest x-rays after doing a breathing test. Just a precaution he explained. Mr. Philips was gong to be kept overnight to monitor the concussion he suffered from hitting his head. Just as the boys were to be taken for x-rays, their parents arrived, accompanied by the sheriff. The parents hugged the boys then turned to the sheriff.

"What happened?"

"There was a small smoky fire but it is out now and no one got hurt. The boys will tell you what ever they want you to know." The sheriff let out a belly laugh, very unprofessional, but couldn't be helped. " You boys stay safe now, you hear?"

"We are going to talk about this when we get home. I think there is more to this story that what we've been told," Bart's Mother said.

"Should we do this together so we don't get two different stories?" Eric's mother asked.

"There is no need to worry, Mrs. Brown. We have rehearsed our stories very well," Bart said with an unusual hint of humor.

The boy's x-rays came back clean so they were released to their parents. It was Friday night so Bart's Mother invited everyone back to her house for the traditional Friday night pizza supper. .

Carol ordered pizza when they arrived at her house. The boys and Eric's parent sat in the living room.

"I'm glad we could all get together like this. The first thing I would like to know is just what happened this afternoon at the school. I know what you have told us what you think we want to hear but I do not think that is the entire story," Carol began. "Which one of you would like to go first."

"He can," both boys said at the same time, then looked at one each other and grinned.

"Bart, you have never tried to hide anything from me so why don't you go first."

"We were not trying to hide anything, we just wanted to try and help Mr. Philips," Bart started.

He explained what happened up to the point he met Eric in the hallway.

"We looked at one another and knew the two of us working together could find Mr. Philips and get him to safety."

Then Eric picked up the story.

"Mr. Philips looked so fragile and helpless, not the authoritarian that met us at the front door every morning and ran the school like a well oiled machine. I didn't want anyone else to see him so vulnerable so I came up with the idea that he saved us. He was so groggy from hitting his head that he still isn't sure exactly what happened. We like our version better." Eric laughed.

"Your boys haven't learned your lesson to let trained professionals do these rescues," Eric's mother told them in her stern motherly voice.

"We would, mother, if they were available. But the firemen were fighting a house fire on the other side of town. By the time they arrived, Mr. Philips might have been dead. Are you suggesting we should have stood by and let him perish?"

"Of course not, Eric. I suppose you and Bart are going to do what you do and your father and I will just go gray prematurely."

"You were never the daring type. You are different lately. Is it Eric that brought about this personality change in you?" Bart's Mother asked.

"In a way, yes, Mother. I grew up living my life to be a Worthington. Father would have walked away from everything Eric and I have done recently, not wanting to get involved. It would be beneath him to lower himself to do an unselfish act, especially one that might endanger his life. That is what I was taught to do"

"That does sound like you Father alright," Carol said quietly

"But Eric has taught me there is more to life than putting up a false façade to keep up appearances and keep people at a distance. I am me, Mother, I am Bart, not Bartholomew Lancaster Worthington V, just plain Bart, an everyday teenager who will do impulsive things when you least expect it. I hope I have not disappointed you."

Carol hugged him and started to tear up.

"My son, you could never disappoint me. I more proud of you right now than I have ever been in my life. Not because of your heroic acts but because you have found yourself, your true self. I had always feared you would grow up like your Father, cold and aloof. When you made friends with Eric and decided to attend public school I felt there was a glimmer of hope that you might be headed in a different direction, a better direction. And you did."

Before the conversation could continue, the doorbell rang. The pizza was here. Carol went to get her pocket book to get some money while Bart and Eric both went to answer the door. They opened it to find Ed standing there with pizzas in his arms and a huge grin on his face.

"Man, did you guys really set off some fireworks today. First you save Mr. Philips from the burning building and then you make out in front of everyone. Holy shit! You guys are awesome."

"It was just one of those things," Eric said nonchalantly

"It was a huge 'one of those things'. Everyone is still talking about it." Ed told them.

"Do you think we will be able to show our faces at school again?" Bart asked.

"Are you kidding? There was a whole group of your friends who wanted to march down to the hospital and cheer for you when you came out. I talked them out of it to give you some space but you better believe you're in for one hell of a welcome come Monday morning."

Bart wasn't really concerned for himself but was afraid of how Eric would react if revealing their relationship was not going to be well received. Evidently it sounded like he was worrying needlessly.

After they had enjoyed their pizza, Eric's parents moved to the living room to chat with Carol while the boys went up stairs to talk.

"Eric, I want to start by saying thank you. What I told my Mother about the changes you have made in my life is true. I am a better person for having gained your friendship. I would not take back anything that you and I have done together."

Eric started to speak but Bart stopped him.

"I also want to apologize with all my heart. I realized too late how much I hurt you by kissing Morgan."

"It was like you stabbed a knife in my heart. We had something special and you go and kiss her right in front of me. The first little kiss I understood to keep up our pretence of having girlfriends, but then you went back for more and practically sucked her face right off her head. You were cheating on me and there was nothing I could do but watch."

"Believe it or not, it was not a romantic kiss. I always thought kissing a girl, other than the familial aunt or grandmother kiss, would be a very unpleasant experience. The first kiss obviously was not, so I got carried away and did it again, more passionately. It was not as ghastly as it could have been but it did not excite me the way kissing you excites me. The lips, the mouth, the tongue, all very similar to yours, but yet different. There no emotional connection at all."

"I felt so hurt and then you avoided me and spent your time with Morgan. I thought it was over between us."

"Do you remember when I first told you I was gay?" Bart asked. "You told me I should try dating a girl to see if I had any attraction to a girl."

"Yes I remember. And you said you tried but you didn't find any girls you liked."

"I was trying too hard.

"But you obviously like Morgan"

"I do, but as a friend and not as a girlfriend per se. There is nothing romantic between us." Bart continued, "The mechanics of the kiss with her were very similar to kissing you but there is more to it when you and I kiss. It is more than just the mutual touching of our flesh. Likewise when I evaluate your ass versus hers. She does have a slightly better shape but I fear it would be squishy like a foam rubber pillow while your ass is firm to the touch and holds it shape under my weight," Bart explained with logical and technical reasoning. "Kissing you brings with it all the passion and emotion that we feel for each other and that enhances the experience with you far more than with Morgan. You are my first love and my only love. I sincerely want us to be together. These past few days have been the loneliest time of my entire life. It didn't even compare to how I felt when I was in Europe. I thought I may have damaged our relationship beyond repair but when I saw your face and tour smile through the smoke in the hallway, it felt right to be with you."

"I have been miserable too," Eric confessed. "I thought we were through. As I was trying to find my way through all the smoke yesterday, I wondered if I had really screwed up this time and maybe not get out alive. Funny thing is, I didn't care if I did or not. I was just concerned about Mr. Philips. Then when you came out of the boy's locker room and you smiled at me, I knew everything was going to be okay. It had to. At that moment everything felt good between us again."

Eric moved over and embraced Bart, putting head on Bart's shoulder.

"From now on we need to talk about things like this before it gets out of hand."

"Agreed."

Eric moved his mouth to Bart's and they engaged in some making out that made Bart's kiss with Morgan seem like an "auntie" kiss.

Eric pulled back and smirked.

"Was that better than Morgan?" Eric asked.

"As if you have to ask. Speaking of asking, would you like to spend the rest of the night with me?"

"To quote a good friend of mine, 'As if you have to ask'," Eric replied before diving in for some more kissing.

The boys went downstairs to ask their parents if Eric could stay the night, which of course they agreed to. They went back upstairs, undressed each other as they kissed and fondle each others bodies, then got into bed. They continued to kiss and cuddle, occasionally pulling their faces back and smiling at each other. Their erect cocks were rubbing against one another, smearing their precum as they rubbed. Bart reached down and took Eric's cock in his hand and began to gently stroke it. Eric let out a moan and reached for Bart's stiff cock. They continued to kiss passionately with stroking each other.

"Okay, time to get down to business," Bart said as he swung around to position his face in Eric's crotch.

Bart stuck out his tongue to lick the precum that was dripping of the tip. Eric sighed and pressed his face into Bart's crotch, letting the hard member rest up against the side of his head. Instead of taking Bart in his mouth, me maneuvered around it and opened his mouth to swallow the balls hanging in front of him. He swirled them around in this mouth as Bart plunged down on Eric's cock. Eric put his hands on Bart's ass cheeks and pulled his head as far as he could between Bart's leg. This let him get past the balls and lick his taint. This time it was Bart doing the moaning, as best he could with a mouth full of Eric's boner. Eric traced his way back to the ball sack and then moved his tongue to wet Bart's cock. When he got to the tip, he slowly lowered his head and engulfed the rigid member to the hilt. Both boys, mouths full of cock, began to bob and suck in earnest. It wasn't much longer before their throats were being flooded with cum, neither one wasting a drop.

"I don't know if it's because I haven't cum in a week or if it's true what they say about make up sex," Eric said.

"Who is they and what is their assessment of this so called make up sex?"

"They is everyone and they all say sex after an argument is the best sex ever."

"As good as this was, and do not get me wrong, it was pretty damn good, I do not believe it was the best sex you and I have ever had," Bart disputed Eric's claim.

"If not he best, then it was pretty close," Eric rebutted.

"The night is young and so are we so let's continue and see if it gets any better," Bart smiled.

"Just give me five and I'll be ready."

"Only five? I was thinking of giving the whole six inches," Bart giggled.

"Five minutes, you doofuss!"

They moved into position to continue with their kissing and cuddling until they were sufficiently rested for round two.

Round two consisted of Bart on top and Eric on his back, enjoying the whole six inches that Bart gave him. Round three had Eric on top and Bart of his stomach with Eric enjoying the support that Bart's ass afforded him.

"Your ass does give me much more support than Morgan's ever could," Eric declared as he climber on.

Round four was just a protracted jerk session, the cocks remaining stiff but their energy level and cum reserves all but drained.

They awoke with Bart spooning Eric, his semi stiff cock pressing up against Eric's butt crack. Eric rolled over and kissed Bart, both of them smiling while thinking about their night of prolonged make up sex.

"I think I concur with you Eric, make up sex is definitely a good thing," Bart admitted.

"As good as it was, let's not fight anymore. Okay?"

"Most assuredly. We must keep the lines of communication open to discuss any issues we have, offer compromises then have a quick two minute tiff so that we make engage in make up sex again."

"Agreed!" Eric laughed

The boys got cleaned up and dressed and went downstairs to met Carol for breakfast.

"Good morning, boys. All is well I take it?"

"All is good, Mother. But it will be even better when we can all get back to the solarium and tend to our plants. I fear they have been neglected this past week."

When they had finished eating, the boys headed to the solarium while Bart's Mother cleaned up the kitchen.

"Do you think you will be ready to face everyone when we go back to school? It will be closed for a week while they clean up the smoke damage," Bart asked Eric.

"I hope so. I have no idea what kind of a reception we'll get."

"I would assume it will be mixed. Most of our friends will be supportive, others will make snide comments and be outright hostile, and a majority make give us a look but not really care."

"Are you upset that I kissed you and outed us?" Eric asked.

"Not at all. I had told you early on that I did not care who knew I was gay. I would even tell the Pope if he asked me. You are the one who had a problem with it."

"I know. My feelings for you took me by surprise. That's why I kept telling you I was a straight guy who was in love with another guy. But the reality of it all hit me when I thought I had lost you. I'm sorry to have treated things this way."

"Oh my. You said you are sorry. Does that mean we have to go back up stairs for more make up sex?" Bart snickered.

"We don't HAVE to but I'm game if you are."

"Later, my horny lover. We have chores to attend to first."

"There is something else we will have to deal with when we go back. Kayla and Morgan. I screwed up our covered story for them. They'll be pissed that I may have outed them as well."

"Yes, I have been contemplating that. I think I have a plan."

"Let's hear it. I'm in," Eric offered.

Bart filled him in on his plan and Eric agreed it was a good idea for all partied involved. Bart said he would call Morgan and fill her in on the details.

Carol joined them and the three of them spent the rest of the day tending to the plants. At the end of the day, Eric went home to spend some time with his family. All through supper his mother kept smiling at him and his father would occasionally look at him and shake his head.

"Okay, enough from you two. No more rescues, I promise" Eric said firmly.

"Sure, whatever you say, honey," his mother said in a patronizing way, then smiled again.

"Unless we have no choice," Eric added with a smirk.

When school resumed after it had been thoroughly cleaned, the moment of truth had arrived for the boys. As usual, Bart picked up Eric and gave him a ride to school. They got out of the limo and walked slowly towards the front doors. As Bart had predicted, the reception was mixed. Some students walked past them and stared but didn't say anything, a few mumbled some slurs and a small group of their close friends met them in front of the school and walked in with them, congratulating them of saving Mr. Philips. Mr Philips was standing right in side the front door to meet them.

"Boys, if I could have a minute, please," and headed towards his office. The boys followed him through the out office and into his private office. "Take a seat. This won't take long."

His demeanor was official sounding and not what they expected.

"First off, I'd like to thank you for coming to help me out of the building. I will be thankful until my dying day. But I can't let that affect our relationship of principal and student. Do I make myself clear?"

"Yes, of course Mr. Philips. Eric and I do not want or expect any special treatment. We were not trying to curry favor with you or put you in a position of feeling obligated to us in any way," Bart spoke up. "As far as we are concerned, a week ago Friday never happened"

"I would like to think that way as well, but there is one thing that can't be overlooked. You know what I'm talking about."

"The kiss. I shouldn't have done it but I was so overcome with emotion, I just reacted. I'm sorry if it will cause any problems for you," Eric apologized.

"The potential for any problems will not be for me, I'm afraid, but for you. As you principal I will not stand for any bullying or harassment from any of the students directed at either one of you, or any other student for that matter. If anyone says or does anything, I want to know about it right away. Do not try and handle any problems yourselves or you will be in trouble with me as well. Do you understand?"

"We do sir, completely. Thank you," Bart said with Eric nodding his head in agreement.

"Fine, then get to our lockers and on to class."

The boys stood to leave but just as they got to the door, Mr. Philips stopped them. He extended his hand to them for a handshake.

"Thank you," he humbled said as he gave each of them a firm handshake.

The boys went to Eric's locker where they had arranged to meet Moran and Kayla.

"What the fuck is with you two?" Kayla said loud enough for anyone in the hallway to hear. "You were dating us when all along you were gay for each other? Where you are trying to humiliate us?"

"It wasn't like that, Kayla. Bart and I liked each other a lot but we thought is was just a simple friendship. We like you girls, we really do," Eric explained.

"And what about kissing me? Were you just trying to play up to me so you could get in my pants? Kiss me, get me all hot and bothered and screw me? It would take a lot more than one kiss to take my virginity, asshole," Morgan shouted, spitting as she spoke.

"I would never behave that way. I like you and respect you. I thought we made a good couple. But then when Eric kissed me I realized it meant more to me than out kiss. I know we have treated you poorly and there is no way we can ever make it up to you. Our boorish behavior has probably tainted your desire to date another boy in the very near future," Bart continued. "I would hope that you can find it in your hearts to forgive us and someday we can be platonic friends."

"I'd cut your limp dicks off and shove them down you throat where they belong before I'd ever consider being friends with the likes of you two jerks!" Kayla yelled. "Come on Morgan , let's get away from these fuck ups!"

As the girls walked away, no one dared to make eye contact with them. They got to the end of the hallway and just as they were turning the corner, Morgan looked back and caught Bart's attention. She saw no one was looking at her so she smiled and gave Bart a thumbs up. The plan was gone off perfectly. No one suspected anything and the girls were in the clear.

Over the course of the week, the jeers and mumbled slurs all but stopped. All the worrying and fears Eric had about coming out never materialized. Life was now a new normal. Eric and Bart's relationship was stronger than ever. It was out in the open and accepted by their families and their close friends at school.

The future was looking bright. But with Eric and Bart, nothing was guaranteed.
