Ok, guys, all the disclaimers apply, that means all thanks goes to Marvel

For the X-Men, I'm just making the story. And I do read all the other

Stories and they're great, keep up the good work. They inspire me!

"He's pretty powerful if this reading is true." Hank Pym said to Captain America as they watched Pane in the simulator, "Why doesn't he use his full power?"

"He's a mutant." Captain America said, "He went to Xavier's school, where they train them not to overdo anything."

"He's decided not to register and...well, Stark and Fury are wary of letting him in the Avengers, in fact, they're against it." Hank said.

"Of course they are." Captain America said, "But it's his right not to be registered. He'll come to it in his own time."

"What's he doing?" Hank asked, watching Pane stop in his tracks, "He's going to get hurt, I have to shut down..."

"No." Captain America said.

"What?! He's..."

"Just watch." Captain America said.

Pane stopped and raised his hand to the robot that he was fighting and the robot stopped. A few more seconds went by before the robot's head flew off, sparks shooting everywhere.

"He's good." Hank said.

Chapter 56: The Avengers

I sat in my room at Stark Towers, apparently the Avengers Mansion had been destroyed, but the Towers weren't anywhere near bad. In fact, the towers were fantastic and big.

"You gonna stay in your room all day?" Captain America asked.

I smiled, "I'm new here." I said.

"It's a beautiful day outside." Cap said, "Our readings say you're off the charts."

"Machines can be wrong." I said, "Most are."

"There's got to be a reason you were recommended for the team." Cap said.

"Xavier is off his rocker." I said, "I'm just a kid."

"You're not just a kid, not anymore." Captain America said, "Might not have been in the first place."

"Maybe not." I said.

"Besides, we always have the future to look forward to." Captain America said, "This starts a whole new journey."

"Where does this all go?" I asked.

"We're building a new team." Captain America said.

"The Young Avengers?" I asked.

"No, not them, it's a group of superheroes you haven't heard of." Cap said, "We are training a new group."

"And you need a ringer?" I asked.

"We need a powerhouse." Cap said.

I shook my head, "I don't think you know what's you're saying." I said, "When you unleash the beast...beastly things happen."

"I've heard." Capt said.

"I've lived it." I frowned, "While fun and exhilarating, it's...just bad. There's no turning back."

"You saw what happened to the Human-Mutant rally," Cap said, "And Professor Xavier thinks that you could be the answer."

"Or, I could fulfill my destiny to enslave the human world." I said innocently.

"Humor?" Cap asked.

"Honesty." I smiled.

"Training, 3 hours from now." Cap said.

"Gotcha." I said as he left.

-

"I call upon the guardians of time and space, do as I command you, do my bidding, and bring me to myself. Bring me into a new world, the world invaded by Skrulls and suspicion." I said, sitting cross-legged in the middle of my room. The world passed by me I found myself sitting in the middle of the mansion from the astral plane. I stood and was about to walk backwards when I stopped and saw Future me sitting in a chair.

He began to clap, "I knew you would come back." He said.

"How?" I asked.

"We were dumb." He said, "Because I was you. I am you."

"No, I would have changed." I said.

"No!" he said angrily, "Nothing changes, it's destiny!"

"To be a total loon?" I asked.

"You see, whoever's up there gave you a lot of power, little boy, and even after you saw me, you still had to stretch your powers and come back. They always come back." He said.

"They?" I asked.

"Mes." He said, "This isn't the first or last time. Time is a tricky, tricky thing. Once you tamper with it, everything changes, everything, it seems, but this. Our fate seems to be too great to overcome."

"I've come back before?" I asked, "So, I'll come back again?"

"Many times." He said, "With the same outcome. The invasion. The loss. The baby."

"The baby?" I asked.

"The baby." He said, "You don't know? Hasn't it happened?"

"What is It?" I asked.

"M-Day?" he said.

I looked around, "We don't have any friends?" I asked.

"No."

"We never had friends?" I asked.

"I never said never." He said, "They're just not around today."

"What about tomorrow?" I asked.

"They're dead." He said, a hint of sadness in his eyes, "We met them not far from now."

"Now, your time or mine?" I asked.

He stared at me, transfixed, "You come here for answers, yet you never leave with any. Why do you continue to come?" he asked.

"I did get answers...Why aren't you shy about future details?" I asked.

"Because nothing can change! Nothing that is supposed to happen can change, or at least not when it comes to us, we're immortal." He said, "At some point, we do all the things we're meant to."

"Immortal? I'm not immortal, I've died." I said.

"Are you still dead?" he smirked.

I frowned, "So...we're immortal?" I asked.

"Explains a lot, huh?" he said.

"You watched them die?" I asked, looking around, "How far into the future are we?"

"Past the Invasion." He said, "Far past it. We are at the end."

"The end?" I asked.

"It's glorious." He said, "The X-Men have all but died off."

There was a rumble behind us and I whipped around, looking for anything.

"They've found us." He said.

"Who? Who found us?" I asked.

"You'll have three friends, put them above all. They are the ones that can save us." He said.

"What is so bad that it scares you?" I asked.

"I may be insane, but even I know there are things worse than death." He said.

"I don't get some of this." I said.

There was a loud bang.

"I know what you mean, I was you, remember...but all will become clear in time." He said. I just stared, "What?"

"You're not as crazy as you look." I said.

"Yes, I am." He said, "Now go, if he catches your astral self, neither one of us will be safe."

"Who are these people?" I asked.

"The Hellfire Club." He said, "And when you get back, don't register."

I nodded and sat in the middle of the floor, trying my best to concentrate but the loud banging persisted and the door burst open as I opened my eyes and I was back in my new room.

"Are you okay?" Spider-Man asked.

I looked around, then smiled, "What are you doing here?" I asked.

"Heard there was a new Avenger, and I just had to see for myself." Spider-Man said, "Joining the Young Avengers?"

"No." I said, "An entirely new group."

He just stared.

"What about you?" I asked.

"What about me?" he asked.

"How are you and...Mary Jane?" I asked.

"We're good." Spider-Man said.

"Good." I said.

There was a silence.

"Be careful, the Avengers work is dangerous." He said.

"I've been dealing in danger since I was sixteen." I said cheerily.

"Still..."

I nodded, "I will." I said, looking at the alarm clock, "I'm late."

-

When I finally found the training room, I was shocked to see that no one was in there. I felt really nervous and out of my comfort zone. I tried to ignore what I just saw. The future me was scary, but there was something sad about him. He was locked in a room all by him...myself. It was also confusing. But there was something in all his words, all the warnings that I can't change things. He couldn't be right.

"You missed the class." Nick Fury said.

"Sorry. I had, well, stuff." I said.

Fury nodded, "Yeah, well, all the other recruits managed to make it." He said.

"I bet all the others are registered to." I joked.

"Yeah, they are." Fury said.

I just stared, "I'm guessing this isn't going to be a pleasant conversation."

"No." he said, "All the other kids here are working their asses off and they deserve to be here."

"And you think I don't?" I asked.

"You've leveled a whole neighborhood." He said, "Yes, I remember you."

"And you didn't like me. Anything else?" I asked.

"Watch your step. This isn't a game." He said.

"I could have guessed that." I said angrily, "I've been an X-Man since I was about fifteen. I'm used to danger."

"I sure hope so." He said, turning and leaving.

-

As I walked to my room, dejected, I felt a little weary. I stood outside, watching the sky. There was a guy downstairs, meditating. I walked over to him.

"Hey." I said, interrupting his meditation.

"Oh, hello." The man said.

"Is that meditating?" I asked.

"Yeah." He said.

"What's your powers?" I asked.

"Powers?" he asked, "Oh, I'm not...I used to be in the Avengers, my name is Dr. Bruce Banner."

I stared at him awkwardly, "So, you're the Hulk?" I asked.

"No." he said, "I'm not."

"He...umm, he lives in you?" I asked.

Bruce nodded.

"I know how you feel." I said. Bruce looked at me and I knew he was thinking how could this kid possibly know, "I'm a mutant."

"Oh. You must be pretty powerful to be here." He said.

"Lack of power isn't the problem." I said.

"It's the excess." Bruce said.

"Correct." I said, "Telepath and Telekinetic."

"You hear other's thoughts?" he said.

"I can. I don't impose." I said.

"Can you read my mind?" Bruce asked.

"I really shouldn't." I said, "Whatever's locked in your mind, I could unleash it."

"I understand." He said.

I sighed, "I'm a little scared. The Hulk, I mean, I've seen him on tv and...but I'll do it." I said.

Bruce smiled.

I took my hand and pressed it against his temple, "Just relax." I said, entering his mind. I cruised along, seeing images of a woman, Betty, and then there was peace. Must have been the images he remembered to keep himself grounded. I did this with ease, until I found myself straining to pass a mental block. I closed my eyes tighter and dove deeper into his memories.

HULK WANT SMASH!

There were images of the Hulk crushing things and debris and devastation!

HULK WANT OUT!

I pulled my hand away from his temple and looked down at him.

"I had flashes." Bruce said.

"I know, the Hulk and..."

"No, you." Bruce said, "Your deepest memories."

I shook my head.

"You just let go." He said, "I felt it. Your darkest moment wasn't letting go, it was coming back."

"I'm a screwed up individual." I said, "The hardest part about a fall isn't the actual fall, it' having to smile while everyone gets to be normal, or more normal than me. The stares." I looked down, "When I let go, it feels like..."

"No one can stop you?" Bruce asked.

"Yeah." I said.

"It's that exact feeling that is dangerous." Bruce said, "Being so liberated comes at a price."

I nodded, "I have to go, there's...I'm late." I said.

"See you soon." He smiled.

-

"Name?" Vision asked.

"Legacy." I said.

"Last time I saw you, you were StormCat." Scarlett Witch said, hugging me, "Look at you."

"StormCat was a lifetime ago." I said, "I'm Legacy now."

"Legacy? Why Legacy?" Vision asked.

"It's what I am." I said, "I may not be on the team anymore, but I'll always be an X-Man."

"Humans." Vision said, "Is there any other power that is not registering?"

"No." I lied, "I'm a telepath."

"Alright." Vision said.

"Am I free to go?" I asked.

"Of course." Vision said.

-

As I made my way back to my room, I noticed a guy standing outside my door. As I walked up, he looked as if he was surprised.

"Hi." I said, "Can I help you?"

"I'm your team leader." He said, extending his hand, "Connor Blaine."

I shook his hand, "Pane Rawling." I said, barely noticing my own name.

"You sure about that?" he asked.

"Sorry. I just, lately, I haven't really heard my own name." I explained, "So, you come to bust my chops for not being at the...umm, practice?"

"Training." Connor said, "And no, just coming to make sure you're okay."

"I'm good." I said, "So, you're the welcome wagon?"

"Sort of." He said, "The rest of the guys are meeting in the Rec, if you want to come."

"I would...but it's been a long day." I said quickly, "Another time."

"Oh, well, okay." Connor said, "Take it easy."

"You've never met me, have you?" I smiled.

"Okay, we see you." Connor smiled as I walked into my room.

No sooner than I got comfortable, there was a knock on the door. I got up and walked to the door, opening it to see a dead ringer for Zachary Quinto. He was so cute, but he was wearing sunglasses. I immediately figured out why.

"Umm, hi." He said, "Is this Tim's room?"

"No." I said, "I'm Pane."

"Oh. So you're the guy Colonel Fury..." but he stopped.

"That would be me." I said, "He doesn't like me much."

"So, you don't know Tim." He said.

"Who are you again?" I asked.

"David Algers." David smiled, extending his hand.

I shook his hand, "You're blind?" I asked.

"Yeah." He said, "Is that a problem?"

"No." I said, "Tim's room is the next door."

"I thought..."

"Telepath." I said.

David smiled, "Thanks." He said, walking away.
