When Fantasy Becomes Reality

Chapter Two: The Trial on Hoth

Well after the whole "awakening" thing that happened on Earth I was brought to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, there I was told that although they typically train their padawans at a much earlier age that they had to make an exception; it would be far more dangerous to let me wander freely after killing a Sith Commander. Oh yeah, so apparently the guy dressed in all black that I decapitated was actually an important guy in the Empire. He was the younger brother of a member of the Dark Council, newly appointed and now he's dead so the older brother has a price on my head. Overall, not the best week of my life and to think I was going to be an accountant. Lol.

As for the man who was to be my master it ended up being the same Twi'lek man who first met me on Earth and spirited me away, his name was Tikmawa but I called him Tik for short which irks the elders. Master Tik had been involved in several campaigns against the Empire and so I was pretty lucky to have been chosen by him, especially since I was so much older than normal. Luckily, much of the more basic lessons could be skipped although I did still have trouble controlling my emotions. I am better now then back then, but as you'll later find out I still indulge from time to time. Friends were hard to come by during my training, there was Master Tik of course but usually I befriended the older students closer to my age. Not that I never fooled around with some of the younger ones, they had such nice bodies after all, but often it was done in secret since the order would never approve.

When I reached the age of 20 Master Tik informed me that we had a mission to go to on Hoth, I was overjoyed since we hadn't left Coruscant for the past two years. Although, I was not as overjoyed to be going to Hoth, talk about cold geez I nearly died when we landed. Our Mission was to find a group of scientists that we had lost communications with a week agao. Command didn't know whether it was a busted comm tower or something worse and so they sent us to find out. This was my first actual mission and I was excited, Master Tik kept reminding me that it was most likely just the comm link.

"Padawan, try to keep your excitment to a minimum you look as if you're about to pee yourself. Remember it is most likely just the comm link that is down, do you have the tool kit that I told you to bring?"

"Yes Master," I replied. "Master?" I inquired as we trod through the snow, "How old were you when you finally finished your trials and became a Jedi Knight?"

He glanced at me with what I could only imagine was pity, "Listen Eric," he called me by my first name, a rarity these days. "You are not the oldest Padawan to have walked this path, and you will not be the last. Already you have far surpassed many of your collegues of a similar age, when the time comes for you to be accepted you will know it as will everyone around you. Just be patient, wait and learn."

"You never answered my question," I smiled at him.

"Ah you noticed, well I was around the age of 30 when I finally was accepted. I was, as your people say, a late bloomer." He laughed and then added, "not too different from you actually."

I blushed since I didn't want to ruin his joke by letting him know what a late bloomer meant back on Earth. Soon we reached the settlement where the scientists were located, it seemed inhabited and they had been there for several years but this was the first incident so far. I reached out with the Force and sensed the presence of several adults and one child. It was not uncommon for children to be born in these outposts when they are isolated for so long. I relayed the information to Master Tik.

"As we surmised" he nodded, "perhaps they will allow us to stay the night after we fix the comm link, the nights here are dreadful."

The occupants of the outpost still hadn't noticed us by the time we got to the door, Master Tik pressed the buzzer on the side panel and waited.

"Who is it?!" came a harsh voice from the other end, "If you want credits or supplies we have neither, now leave!"

"We were sent by command to check up on you guys" Master Tik explained, "you haven't answered our hails so we assumed your comm link was down and brought tools to fix it. Would you mind letting us in?"

"Our comms are fine, just please leave!" came the harsh reply.

"Master, I am sensing an unusual amount of fear within the building. Perhaps not everything is as it seems?"

Master Tik nodded to me, expressing his concern as well.

"Well would you mind letting us in all the same?" Master Tik said, "The night is coming fast and we have nowhere to bunk for the night."

"Honey we can't let them just freeze to death out there" came a softer voice in the background.

"Fine, but only for the night and don't try any funny business." The door suddenly opened.

Master Tik and I entered the complex and weren't prepared for what we saw. The entire inside of the building was demolished with signs of blaster fire on the floor and walls. There was also the unmistakable odor of unwashed bodies and the faint coppery smell of blood. We cautiously walked down the hall to where we saw five adults and a child all huddled together behind the man we could only auume was in charge.

"Greetings," Master Tik said "we thank you for your hospitality. Tell me what has happened here, did somone attack you?"

As I set down the case with the tools inside I noticed a big pair of curious blue eyes staring at me. They belonged to the child I had sensed earlier, a skinny boy of about 11 with dirty blonde hair and a great smile as I noticed when he smiled at me. The man, seeing that we were not dangerous relaxed a bit and offered us seats and warm drink. The drink looked like coffee but honestly tasted like old socks, I didn't drink much of it. The man began to speak:

"We have been attacked by scavengers for the past few weeks, they come and take whatever they want and have threatened to kill us if we call for help. That is why they put a tracker on the comm link so as to warn them if we try to make contact. We had hoped somone would've noticed but after the first three weeks we soon gave up. They have already taken three of my scientists as "entertainers" and threaten to take the boy next. The army won't come, their forces are stretched thin as is and they wouldn't spare the manpower for an outpost as small as this one. Plus they'd only make things worse, so unless you want to get hurt I suggest you pack up and leave as soon as possible."

Master Tik listened intently, nodding his head at times. A frown formed on his brow at the mention of these scavengers and he began muttering into his cup. Finally he looked up and said,

"The way I see it we have two options, one: me and my associate here could leave and write a report thereby letting the higher ups decide what is to be done. Or we get rid of these scavengers for good."

"You?!" the man scoffed, "You're just two engineers what could you possibly do?"

"Grandpa." the young boy tugged on the mans coat, "They can help, they're Jedi. I saw his lightsaber when he sat down." The boy pointed to me.

"You're grandson is quite right, we are not simple engineers," Master Tik replied. "If you tell us where their camp is we can deal with them in the morning."

"I'll show you," the young boy said. "I'm the best scout here anyways and know the best way where they won't even see you."

"Dane no," an older woman said. "Your mother told us to protect you, it's much too dangerous. Have Grandpa go."

"No!" Dane replied forcefully, "They took my mother from me and they need to pay for it, I'm the only one who can get these Jedi close and you know it. I'm going."

Master Tik knelt in front of Dane, "Revenge is not the answer little one. We will remove the scavengers from here but not for revenge, we only use force if there is no other choice. You may guide us there, but once we arrive you must return straight away understand?"

"He's right," the grandpa replied. "Dane is the only one who can show them, and as long as he listens to what they say" here he gave Dane a stern look, "then he should be fine."

In the end the woman relented and everyone went to find a place to sleep for the night, Master Tik and I were given cots in the common room area. As we settled down I turned to Master Tik and asked, "Master, why did command really send us down here on this mission? Surely what they thought was a simple comm repair wouldn't warrant the involvement of the Jedi."

"Perceptive as ever my padawan, very well the true nature of our visit was not disclosed to you but I will tell you. Several months ago an experimental weapons plan was stolen from a reasearch outpost not far from here, at first communications halted and then when a team was sent to investigate they found everyone dead. We believed it to be this group of scavengers, and with that weapon plan in hand if sold to the wrong person much destruction could be wrought. Our true assignment then is to obtain this plan and ensure that it was not shared, however the leader of this group is said to have... abilities. The Jedi Council fear that it could be the Force, or worse."

"Shit," was all I could say.

"Yes, padawan. Quite a lot of shit in fact."

With thought of our mission tomorrow filling my head I fell into a fitful sleep, filled with terrible visions of an ominous figure surrounded by a dark aura. In the morning we awoke early to Dane already dressed and ready to go. With worried glances between his grandparents Master Tik and I followed him for about 3 miles to a nearby ridge. There we told him to make his way back, we'd take it from here.

"But I want to help, grandpa says I'm a pretty good shot with a blaster rifle."

"No youngling, this is far too dangerous" Master Tik explained. "Please return to the outpost and protect your family in case something goes wrong here."

Dane grumbily acknowledged the suggestion, with that taken care of Master Tik and I slowly made our way towards the encampment ahead, lightsabers within reach. We were spotted by a guard and quickly were surrounded by six or seven scavangers, all with blaster rifles pointed at our heads. We rose our hands in submission, it would be foolish to reveal ourselves at this stage. We were then escorted to the center of the camp where a rather imposing Trandoshian stood watching us. I could feel a dark presence surrounding him, I guess the rumors of Force abilities were true.

"Who do you fools think you are, walking right into my camp?" the large trandoshian grumbled, his words were difficult to interpret. "Why shouldn't we kill you where you stand?"

Master Tik stepped forward, "We are simple passerby's who came across an outpost several kilometers from here, they say you folks have been causing them some trouble. We had hoped that you may be persuaded to leave, we can pay you in credits and some advanced tools we have with us."

The trandoshian laughed, "This is Hoth, credits are worthless here although those tools look promising. You say that scum at the outpost sent you? We'll have to finish them once you're dealt with." He turned to his men, there were perhaps thirty of them. "Kill them and search their bodies for valuables."

With a roar the men began firing at us, they were fast but we were prepared. Immediately both our lightsabers came into action, quickly blocking the incoming fire killing several with ricochetes. Still we were hard pressed, reaching out to the Force I blasted the nearby snow around us creating a thick mist of snow. Using nothing but our senses and the Force we killed a dozen more before it was visible once again. Shouts of "Jedi!" ran throughout the camp. Suddenly a dark presence pressed down on us.

"You Jedi dare make a mockery of me and my men?!" roared the Trandoshian from several feet away. With incrediable strength he leapt towards us, vibrosword in hand, and landed with a huge push of the Force knocking both of us off our feet. Master Tik was quickly surrounded by three more men all with vibroswords while a a fourth began shooting at him. This left me to deal with the Trandoshian.

Unbeknownst to us Dane had not listened to our advice and watched the battle with wide eyes. He was so engrossed in the action he did not hear the figure approach him from behind until a hand clapsed around his mouth and a blaster was pointed at his head.

"Didn't think you would sit here and get to watch without getting noticed, did you little runt?" A gruff voice said, Dane could smell the scent of alchohol on his breathe and feel a pressure pressed up agianst his rear. He knew this wasn't going to end well.

Meanwhile I was battling the Trandoshian furiously, side stepping a swipe I struck out at him which was blocked. We began exchanging blows and I soon reaized he was just as strong as we had anticipated. The ground quaked before each of our blows, using the Force I threw a nearby speeder at him which he cut in half. We disengaged and slowly begand circling each other, like two predators circling a wounded prey. All I had was a quick snarl from him as a signal and then we both threw our full strength of the Force at each other. The resounding boom created a crater where we stood, still locked furiously in a battle of sheer will. Letting go of the Force I leapt out of the way as the force of his own attack carried the Trandoshian several steps forward. Taking advantage of this lapse I leapt forward and our blades clashed once more.

We exchanged blows once more, dodging one of his attacks I leapt into the air and landed behind him dropping low to the ground. Sensing what I intended he clumsily began to turn around but I swept his feet out from under him. The Trandoshian crashed to the ground and I sank my lightsaber deep into his chest. He thrashed around for a few seconds before his body finally fell limp and lifeless.

Getting to my feet I searched for my Master and quickly spotted him hunched over a nearby house, one hand on his side and surrounded by four dead bodies. I quickly ran over to him and helped him stand up.

"Master you're hurt! We must find the weapon plans and get you back to the outpost so you can be treated."

"Don't worry yourself Eric, this isn't the first time I've been shot you know. As for the plans I already have them here." He held up a datapad. "According to their logs they thankfully hadn't been able to acquire a buyer yet before we came. The rest of the scavengers escaped and are making their way back to the outpost. We must hurry."

We made our way to a nearby speeder when I stopped, sensing something was wrong.

"What is it padawan?"

"Dane" I said, "something has happened to him, I sense a great deal of pain coming from him. You go back to the outpost Master, I will go find Dane and rescue him. Hold out as long as you can, I will meet you shortly."

"Go padawan, and may the Force be with you"

"With you as well, Master."

Using nothing but the Force as a guide I began running towards where I could feel Danes pain, it grew stronger as I grew closer. Master Tik watched his Padawan go, "Soon" he thought, "very soon and I believe he will be ready." He then turned the speeder and sped towards the outpost in the opposite direction.

Soon I reached a cave where I could feel Danes pain strongly, I also could sense another figure in there as well. I reached for my lightsaber and cautiously made my way forward, Danes scream made me begin running towards the cave. What met my eyes was shocking, although not unexpected. Dane lay facedown on the cave floor with his pants around his ankles as a man furiously worked his cock in and out of Danes little asshole.

"That's right scream you little bitch. Do you have any idea how many times I've wanted to do this? Boss was happy with just the scraps you scum had, and the few women were even worth it. But you, ooh you were the real prize that I wanted, flaunting that ass of yours." The gruff voiced man began pumping roughly into Dane, the little lads face covered in dirt and tears.

Anger boiled within me at the sight, reaching out with the Force I pulled him towards me and then threw him hard aginst the cave wall. There he hung suspended and dazed. I ran over to Dane and scooped him into my arms.

"Are you okay? Did he hurt you badly?" I asked him with concern. He began sobbing at the sight of me, and buried his face in my arms.

"I'm s...s..soorry... I d...didn't listen to you guys." Dane sobbed as I gently petted his hair.

"Shhh, shhh don't worry about that now. What matters is that you're safe. Can you walk?"

He shook his head no, so after getting him properly dressed I scooped him into my arms to carry back to the outpost. Remembering the figure still suspened on the wall I released him and he fell to the ground with a thud. He looked up at me with terror in his eyes.

"I should kill you now where you stand," I said with anger blazing in my eyes. "But back on my own planet we have a thing called justice, and frankly I don't want to even dirty my hands with you. So..." I waved my hand and reached out to the Force. "You will walk to the nearest Republic outpost and turn yourself in."

"I will walk to the nearest outpost and turn myself in" he repeated, eyes glazed over.

"You will confess to killing, looting, and destroying Outpost Nema as well as countless others."

"I will confess to killing, looting, and destroying Outpost Nema and countless others."

"You will admit to raping this child, and should be confined to a cell until judgement can be passed."

"I will admit to raping this child and should be confined to a cell until Judgement can be passed."

"Go" I said, releasing the Force. He quickly stumbled out of the cave, pantless, and towards the nearest Republic base. I quickly began running towards the direction of Danes outpost with the little guy curled up in my arms.

"What will happen to that man?" Dane asked as we marched on.

"He will find his way to the fate I left him, the Force will pull him towards my commands like an insistent leash. He will get his punishment don't you worry."

"Thank you, Jedi." Dane said and fell asleep.

We soon made it back to the outpost where I could see Master Tik engaged in battle with the remaining scavengers. Gently putting Dane down I grabbed my lightsaber and rushed to his aid. Together we pushed back the scavengers and quickly subdued them, those who didn't die were quickly restrained and disarmed.

"Just in the nick of time Padawan, as usual. How is Dane?" Master Tik asked.

"I put him inside to be tended to by his granparents, there are few physical wounds but I fear the mental wounds run deep."

"It is good you got to him when you did, this bunch are not known for their mercy. Let us return to command and inform them of the situation, I need some rest and a hard drink after this." Master Tik laughed.

Before we left Danes grandfather approached me, "I just wanted to thank you both for what you've done. Truly we are in your debt, and I especially wanted to thank you." The man turned to me. "You saved our Dane, and for that I will eternally be in your debt. It is good to know that there are still some in this galaxy who will fight for what is right. May the Force be with you."

"May the Force be with you." Master Tik and I repeated in unison.

After the remaining scavengers were arrested and put in jail me and Master Tik were finally able to return to the Jedi Temple. Once there I was informed that the Jedi Council wanted to see me personally.

"Is it something I did Master?" I asked as we made our way to the council chambers. "I mean I had no choice but to kill the Trandoshian, he would've destroyed that outpost if I hadn't."

"Padawan, be patient and all will be revealed. You did well, and in fact should be commended for your actions on Hoth. Now let us commence inside." We had reached the massive golden doors that lead to the Council.

The doors themselves were covered in intrinsic designs depicting battles fought and treaties signed that spanned many thousands of years. One door alone spoke of more history than any one textbook could. Pushing against them we entered the chambers, the doors silently shutting behind us. The hallway eventually opening out into a large domed atrium, at the center sat a massive table surrounded by twelve large, throne-like chairs. Twelve masters of various species, genders, and sizes sat serenly in them all with their heads turned towards the newcomers.

"Masters." Tik said as both he and I bowed to them.

"Ahh Master Tikmawa and his Padawan, Eric if I remember correctly?" One of the men asked.

"Yes Master." I replied.

Another Jedi, an elderly woman with strangely colored eyes spoke,"We have read your reports of what transpired on Hoth. Very impressive Padawan, you're actions saved the lives of the scientists in that outpost as well as the life of that young boy. Had you not intervened he at best would be a sex slave by now, if not dead."

"Thank you Master."

"Indeed" another man tall with large hands spoke next, "We here on the Council feel it is time that you join the ranks of our Knights. You're actions on Hoth, speedy mastery of your lessons, and actions on your own homeworld as well have all warranted this promotion."

I stood there dumbfounded, shocked by their praise but also by their decsion. I mean who had ever heard of a Padawan only trained for two years becoming a knight?

"Masters thank you, but am I really ready?" I asked, worried.

"You have more than proven yourself my young padawan," Master Tik said. "Sure you still have much to learn and we will always be here to guide you. But you are certainly capable enough to be able to handle assignments on your own. I see great things for your future."

"Then it is decided." The same man who spoke first said, "Then by the authority of this Council I hereby name you Eric, Jedi Knight of the order." All twelve masters stood and clapped while I stood there in shock. So much for that accounting job.
