Westlife Romance - Part 6
The ride to the photo shoot was done in awkward silence, although Mark and Kian seemed not to notice. Kian was too preoccupied with his own thoughts, and Mark was trying not to fall asleep in the car. Shane kept thinking about how to repair his relationship with Bryan while Bryan simply stared out the window, trying to put together the events of the past 24 hours. Nicky's attention was split between worrying about Kian's fever and about Shane's relationship with Bryan.
The photo shoot went on for most of the morning. Once the shooting started, all the lads were all-business. They concentrated on the task at hand, pushing away everything that was on their minds. Everything was done by lunch time, and the rest of the afternoon was free. Since most of the lads did not have much sleep from the night before for various reasons, they all decided to go back to the hotel for some rest.
Once they were back at the hotel, everyone went to the respective rooms, agreeing to meet for dinner.
"Kian, you should go and get some sleep. It'll make you feel better," Nicky suggested.
"Yeah, I think I'll do that."
"I'll talk to you later, k?"
"Sure thing, Nicky."
Back in Shane's room, the young singer was pacing the floor nervously. "How am I going to repair the damage that I've done?" he thought to himself. "What if Bryan doesn't want to forgive me?" The more he paced, the most depressed he got. Finally, after lots of pacing, he decided that it was best that he had a chat with Bryan, regardless of the outcome. After freshening up, he took a deep breath and walked down the hall to Bryan's room. As he was walking, he caught sight of Kian walking down the stairs. "I thought he said he was going to get some sleep," Shane thought. "Oh well, he probably forgot something downstairs in the breakfast room." He turned his attention back to the task at hand. He knocked gently on Bryan's door. He heard footsteps inside and soon the door opened. Bryan stared at him with an almost expressionless face. "What is it, Shane?"
"Uh, Bry..." Shane stumbled for words. He could feel his stomach tightening in knots. "Why am I so nervous?" he asked himself. "I've known Bryan for ages!! It's not like he was a stranger or anything." "Bryan, I need to talk with you."
Bryan opened the door wider to let Shane in, but did not utter a word. Shane walked in nervously and sat down on the chair. Bryan closed the door and went over to the bed. "So, you said you wanted to talk. Well, I'm listening."
The cold response from Bryan stung Shane. Bryan had never talked to him in this way before. It was clear that Bryan didn't want to see Shane or be in the same room as him. It was just out of courtesy that he even let Shane into the room. "Bryan...about yesterday..."
"You made yourself very clear yesterday, Shane. And I already said I was sorry and that it won't happen again. You don't have to worry about that," Bryan spat out. Bitterness and anger were written all over that response.
"That's not what I was trying to say..."
"Then what is it that you're trying to say, Mr. Filan?"
"Bryan...please don't do this..."
"Do what?"
"Bryan, please...don't push me away like this," Shane pleaded. This conversation was not going well at all. Although he had braced himself for the worst, he really didn't want to see this happen.
"Well, what were you expecting, Shane?" Bryan retorted.
"Bryan, I'm sorry about snapping at you yesterday...it's just that..."
"It's just that this tour is very important to Westlife and that we can't afford to mess up," Bryan snapped, his voice rising with every word. "I've heard all of this before. Can't you think of a better answer??"
Shane's heart sank with every word that Bryan said. He was running out of things to say. It was obvious that Bryan was not in a conciliatory mood. "I'm sorry that I haven't been as a good a friend as I should've been Bryan.
I'm sorry..."
"Damn right you haven't been a friend, Shane," Bryan replied sarcastically. "But then again, Westlife is getting great press coverage on this tour, so I'm sure you're totally pleased with that. After all, it's all that matters, right?"
The verbal assault from Bryan was intensifying. Bryan was practically shouting now. And Shane was speechless, unable to defend himself against the accusations. He knew it was a mistake to have this chat, but it was too late.
"Well, you've had your talk, Shane," Bryan continued. "Now if you'll excuse me, I want to get some sleep."
Shane hung his head and walked to the door. "I'm sorry, Bryan," he said, trying to choke back his tears. He closed the door behind him, determined to struggle back to his room before letting any tears fall. As he walked back to his room, he saw Kian also entering his room, but at this moment, he didn't really care.
Once in the safety of his own room, Shane let his defences crumble. His tears fell freely, as he thought about what Bryan said. Did he really jeopardize his friendship with Bryan? Was their friendship really over? In the midst of these thoughts, an even more terrifying thought occurred to him. If Bryan thought that way, would the other lads be sharing the same feeling? The idea of the other lads rejecting him the way Bryan did was enough to cause Shane's tears to fall harder.
