Westlife Romance - Part 12
Shane could see a look of fear and confusion come over Kian. But this fear only lasted for several seconds. Once he had regained his composure, Kian pushed Shane off of him.
"What the hell is wrong with you, Shane?" Kian shouted.
"What is wrong with ME??" Shane yelled back. He just could not believe that Kian was asking this question.
"Well, look at you. You look like some crazed lunatic!"
Shane was angry before, but now Kian's remarks were adding fuel to the fire.
Without thinking, Shane launched a fist that landed squarely on Kian's body. This attack sent the blond singer crouching in pain. "What the hell?" Kian yelled. "What is wrong with you??"
"And to think I was worried about you yesterday, trying to set up opportunities for you to get back with Nicky," Shane fumed. "To think that you would have the gall to fuck with some nobody behind Nicky's back!!!"
Upon hearing Shane's accusations, Kian's face became ghost white. "You...you know??"
"What's the matter? You didn't seem to care when you were fucking in the stairway!!"
"Shane, let me explain..."
"What's there to explain?? I can't believe you, Kian. What is wrong with you?? Why can't you be satisfied with what you have???"
"It's not what you think, Shane..."
"I've had enough of your sorry excuses," Shane answered angrily, turning to leave the room. "I can't believe that I called you my best friend."
Kian tugged at Shane as he turned away. "You can't tell him Shane...please!!!"
"Fuck off, Kian. First you fuck behind his back and now you want me to lie for you?? You're out of your mind!!"
"No, Shane..." Kian pleaded as he sobbed, "please...don't tell him...I don't want to lose him!!!"
"Maybe you should've thought of that beforehand, Kian."
Kian fell on his knees. "I'm begging you, Shane. Don't tell Nicky...he'll be crushed if he found out. I made a mistake. I promise I won't ever do it again. I swear!!! Please...please, Shane..."
Seeing his best friend begging him threatened to soften his will. While on the one hand he hated seeing his friend like this, he knew that agreeing to Kian's request would be totally unfair to Nicky.
"I'm sorry, Kian..." Shane muttered, "I...I just can't..." With that, Shane turned and ran out of the room, leaving Kian on his knees, sobbing.
Shane ran as fast as he could away from Kian's room. He just wanted to get out of that place. "Why did I have to see Kian in the stairway?" he asked himself. "Why me???" He wandered around the hotel, trying to sort out what he should do. It was another fifteen minutes before he rejoined the lads. By then, Kian was already there. Shane shot another icy stare at his friend.
"What took you so long?" Bryan asked. "We've been waiting forever!!"
"Sorry," Shane answered softly. "Kinda lost track of time. Well, let's get going then..."
The ride to the studio was quiet. Shane was still struggling with what he should do. He could see Kian's pleading eyes looking at him, and though he tried to block them from his mind, he was not succeeding. As the ride continued, Shane could see Kian snuggling up to Nicky, exchanging hugs and kisses. This sight rekindled the anger in Shane. "How dare he pretend nothing happened," Shane thought to himself. "How dare he treat Nicky this way..." Despite his anger, he again found himself struggling with what to do. Yes, he cared about Nicky. And yes, he knew that Kian was being totally unfair to Nicky. But on the other hand, Shane had known Kian for what seems like eternity and he had only know Nicky for all by two years. No matter what he decided to do, one of them would get hurt. He found himself questioning who he would rather protect...Kian or Nicky? The more he thought, the more confused he got. He was so deep in thought that he didn't even notice the car stopping at the studio.
"Yoohoo...earth to Shane," came Bryan's cheerful voice.
"Huh?"
"We're here, in case you haven't noticed..."
"Oh...yeah...I was just thinking about some stuff..."
"You okay?" Bryan asked with a more concerned look.
"Of course I am...just a bit tired."
Bryan shrugged as he accepted Shane's answer and the two lads followed the others into the studio.
The morning rehearsal went horribly. Several times, Shane missed his entries or sang the wrong lyrics, causing the lads to redo several songs quite a few times. Shane was having a hard time concentrating since his mind was already elsewhere.
"Look," Mark finally said, "why don't we take a break?"
"Excellent..." Bryan agreed, "I need some food anyways."
"I'm sorry guys, I'm just totally off today," Shane apologized.
"No worries, we all have our off days," Mark answered.
Kian soon followed Bryan to the cafeteria and Mark went to make a phone call. Alone in the studio, Nicky walked over and sat beside Shane. "What's wrong, Shane?"
"What do you mean?" Shane asked nervously.
"You seem so preoccupied with something...ever since breakfast this morning..."
"It's nothing..." Shane offered. "I just didn't sleep well last night."
Nicky wasn't convinced. "Who are you trying to kid, Shane? Something is wrong, or else you wouldn't be acting so strange. Come on, you can tell me anything, you know...what's bothering you?"
