Wayne's Journal - Part 28 27 January 2018, Saturday 1015 AM Daniel's Place

Developments!

So Matt called. Well, Matt and Laura both called. Matt was telling Laura about the contracting work he's planning to do for Martha, and she had the idea to actually come visit. From that, Matt said that he has no projects scheduled in San Diego. And if it'd be useful he could just stay a while and do the work himself.

I told Martha about this. Martha did her homework on Matt - reviews on Yelp from various people who used his services, and she called him. After a discussion with Matt she asked if he wanted to be her head contractor and they discussed rates. He accepted. So ... my brother in law is going to be my future sister in law's contractor. This is so satisfying for some reason!

Anyway, they are planning to head to us a few days before the building is out of escrow and is properly Martha's. They're planning on 17 February, and everyone will be here. Josh has the week off school for President's Day. I have no idea why kids get the whole week off, but hey it works so I'll ask no questions! Martha will get the building on 20 February, and then the real work will start.

We're all really excited. :-) It'll be so nice to see them again!

Right now Daniel and Martha are planning what they're going to change and fix in the building. They're setting priorities and trying to guess as to how much things will cost. Davis, Anna and Grayson are due over soon too. Davis has come up with a chunk of change toward the gym, and the guys are going to talk business.

Speaking of Grayson, I've started training him in Shotokan. Daniel was right. He has a crazy good memory for the movements, and chaining them together. I've taught him a dozen katas and he knows them all. The techniques that don't require a lot of flexibility he can do, and repeats them perfectly. He's working on his flexibility and strength, so I expect he'll be nailing all of them soon. Watching him burn through one kata after another actually gives me chills. I think he could be really good. No, I think he could be AMAZING. And I said as much to him.

He worked a bit with Martha. But after a session he decided he liked the defined movements of Shotokan more. So he and I are going to spend some time working on that, at least an hour for a couple of nights a week and then a few hours on the weekend. Those days our cardio will be taken care of! When they get here we're going to do a session. This time I'm going to see what he can really do.

Ah, I heard the door. They're here. Gotta run!

Daniel 27 January 2018, Saturday 1025 AM Daniel's Place

Davis and crew enter the house. He's got a few papers in hand and an envelope. He bears a smile too. "Hey Daniel." He gives me a hug.

"Hey Davis." I nod to Anna. "Howdy Anna." I glance at Grayson and jerk my head toward the gym. "I think Wayne is waiting for you Grayson."

The skinny man grins. "Good!" He's dressed in sweats and a t-shirt under his jacket. I'm happy to see that he really seems to enjoy the lessons with Wayne. He quickly disappears into the home gym.

"Mind if I sit in on your guys' building meeting?" Anna asks. Her intelligent green eyes look back and forth between Davis and I.

"Nope. Come on." I turn to lead them toward the kitchen. "Martha made her signature chunky tomato soup for us all. Because ... you know, it's Martha."

Davis grinned. "I thought something smelled good."

We go into the kitchen and find Martha sitting at the island next to Saul as the two of them look at yet another set of building plans. Each slurps from a small bowl of soup, and they sit so that their knees touch.

"Mmmm ... soup." Davis helps himself from the simmering dutch oven on the stove top.

Martha smiles. "Hi Davis. Anna."

We all sit with our food and get down to the nitty gritty of costs for everything we'd need to change. Thanks to the pictures we sent Matt we actually have a better idea of what it'll take now.

Davis also reveals what is in the envelope. He has account statements that show $60,000 in combined savings that he can contribute to the gym. That's HUGE. My estimates put us around $300,000 to outfit the place, get renovations specific to the downstairs done, and get insurance and business licenses handled.

This is just the initial investment too. Davis plans to roll over all he can into additional upgrades - more equipment, machines, improvements. This will slowly increase his stake in our new venture up to 50%. With Davis' help we won't have to take out a single loan. No interest to pay. That's extremely powerful when it comes to running a business.

Martha listens to us go over the numbers and she frowns. "You're planning to handle all the costs for the downstairs?" She shakes her head. "We're gonna share an entrance. I'll help with the bottom floor."

"That's nice of you Martha, but I think you should let us handle the first floor." I smile at her. "You can decide how much rent will be for our gym space. I'll keep track of how much we spend on infrastructure. Once we get to a break even point you start charging us rent. But not till then." I stick out my hand. "Deal?"

She still frowns, but she shakes my hand. "Fine. But you track ALL of it. Plumbing, wiring, all of it. Anything we share."

"Absolutely. I'll break it all down for you so you can see it." I look at Davis. "You alright with this?"

Davis nods. "Yup. Not paying rent for the first couple of years at least will be awesome for business and upgrades. It'll mean I can throw that much more back into the place." Martha sticks her hand out for him and he shakes it too.

Slowly, we slog through the details, and get all of our verbal agreements down on paper so they can go into our legal documentation later.

After about twenty minutes I get up to stretch my back and I catch an odd sound. Almost like a flag snapping in the wind.

It's coming from the gym and I frown. Rapid fire, snapping. The others notice and Anna looks at me. "What is that?"

I shrug. And I motion at them. Collectively we walk the the doorway of the gym.

I inhale in surprise. Wayne and Grayson are fighting! At least that's what it looks like. Grayson wears a look of supreme concentration and his movements are fast, sure, and confident. Wayne rains blows at him - punches, kicks, elbows. Grayson blocks, pivots out of the way and returns with his own attacks which are countered by Wayne.

They're both moving very fast. Martha watches with the eye of a master. "Whoa." She breathes. I double take at her when she says it, because that is high praise from Miss Lopez.

I realize it's an intricate combat drill, one that Wayne has probably done many times. But to Grayson it would be relatively new. And he is NAILING it. The two of them look like a high level martial arts demonstration. The sound is Wayne's long and loose shirt sleeves snapping in the air as he moves. The drill is a set of movements that Wayne has memorized. And as long as Grayson executes them in the right order then he will exactly counter what Wayne throws at him. It looks dangerous to both of them, but it's obvious now that Wayne is an expert and controls himself perfectly.

Davis simply gapes. "Whaaa ..." He turns and looks at me, his face incredulous. "What?"

We continue to watch, and the two of them move across the floor of the gym. It's mesmerizing. I honestly had no idea Wayne was so good at Shotokan. Skilled, yes, but this is far beyond what I imagined. Seeing him in action - the crispness and power of his movements, I realize he could easily teach - that he already IS teaching.

By now they're both drenched in sweat and Grayson is beginning to flag a bit. Wayne takes a step back and holds up his hands. He grins broadly at Grayson, the pride evident on his face, and the thin man puts his hands on his knees and returns it. They're both panting hard.

"What the fuck!?!" Davis strides into the room. "Grayson! Dude!" He throws his arms around the sweaty, exhausted man. "When did you learn that?" He looks at Grayson, his eyes amazed.

Grayson struggles for a breath and laughs. "Wayne has been teaching me the drills. He's a good teacher."

From our spot in the doorway Martha looks over at me. "Good call, getting him hooked up with Wayne." She shakes her head. "He's going to be at a really high level, really fast." Wayne walks over to Davis and Grayson, and claps Grayson on the back with a smile. Martha points her chin at Wayne. "And that one ..." her eyes seem to measure him, "he's got REAL skill." She looks back at me. "I'm impressed."

I grin at Martha. "That's what he says about you."

She smiles. "He's right." Then she laughs along with Saul, Anna and I.

The two of them go to clean up and we're done with our building planning session. We sit around the island and talk about our near future.

In less than a month we'll have the building. A month after that if all goes well, I'm going to own a gym.

Finally. I can't wait!

Wayne's Journal 27 January 2018, Saturday 1230 PM Daniel's Place

Davis and crew left not long ago. Just after they did the mail was delivered. And there among all the regular junk was Daniel's advance copy of the Journal of Applied Physiology. I thought Daniel was going to tear it in half as he opened the plastic around the journal.

I looked over his shoulder as he found Dr. Fadyaev's article. And sure enough his work was listed as a source for her numbers, AND she mentioned him by name in the body of the article as someone who is already utilizing the principles discussed in the article.

Daniel stared at the page where his name was printed. "Oh wow." He turned his stunned eyes on me. "Wow."

I grinned at him. "Looking pretty good Mr. Ison." I point at the article. "This is gonna be really big for you." I thought a moment. "When does it hit the shelves again for everyone else?"

"Another week. End of the first week in February." Daniel rubbed his face. "Wow." He continued reading and he sat on the couch to finish it. A little while later he folded the journal and put it on the coffee table.

"I have to call Dr. Fadayev." He seemed stunned.

"Okay, that's a good idea." I reached and rubbed his leg. "But how about you take a minute or two first, gather your thoughts, and process this a little bit." I turned his face toward mine and smiled gently at him. "Because right now I think the only things you'd be able to say would be less intelligent than you'd like."

He blinked then he laughed. "Well, that's probably right." He closed his eyes and took a big breath then let it out in a long exhalation. He turned back to me. "Wayne, this ... this is going to be a really big deal." I could see the wheels turning madly in his mind. "I know you realize that. But it's hard for me to wrap my mind around what it will mean." He set his jaw. "It may be that I'm overblowing it, and nothing will come from it. But I don't think that's the case." He nodded. "I think it's going to be noticeable, in my subscriptions and maybe even with my in-person sessions."

"And your gym memberships." I smiled at his change in expression. "It'll be really fresh in the minds of those who follow this sort of stuff right after your place is ready for business. Damn good timing if you ask me."

Daniel nodded. "Yeah. It is." He looked at me, and his expression shifted to one of fondness. "I'm so glad I get to have this crazy adventure with you." He leaned forward and kissed me. I slipped my hand behind his head and enjoyed the feel of his lips on mine.

After a moment he pulled back and smiled. "I'm gonna make that call. I'll be back."

He got up and went into his office and I started to journal. And here we are.

I'm going to go see if there's anything good to eat.

Till next time.

Daniel 27 January 2018, Saturday 245 PM Daniel's Place

The conversation with Dr. Fadayev was quick but great. She thanked me for my contribution to her paper, and I did the same for the very obvious name drop in the body of the paper itself. She chuckled at that.

"I suppose it was a bit obvious. But, you deserve it and I regret nothing." I could hear the self satisfaction in her voice. I like that woman more and more as time goes on.

After my call I check my email. There's one from Matt and I open it. He had gone to the doctor with his assessments and photos of his Lordosis. He also sent new pictures his doctor took. The curve in his spine is significantly reduced. His program is working well.

And ... wow. He has lost almost 15 pounds! He's got a bit to go, but he's looking great. More important he's feeling a lot better. His back pain is almost completely gone, and only flares up if he sits for a long period. His doctor agreed that he should continue with his stretches and exercises.

Matt was effusive with his thanks. Pain sucks, and now he's able to have a life again. I can't help but feel a nice inner glow of pride in my work. I'm glad I was able to help him get his problem resolved. I study his numbers he provided in the attached spreadsheet and I change a few things then send it back to him. He's going to have a slightly expanded routine next time he works out, and he gets to do planks for a full minute vs the 45 seconds he was doing. He'll LOVE that.

I get up and meander into the kitchen. Wayne is there and he's reheating Martha's soup. He's also putting together a spinach salad. He looks up as I come in, and his eyes light up. God, he makes me feel like a superstar ... just by how he looks at me.

"Hey." He smiles. "You hungry? Want salad and some soup?"

I come around the island and take him into my arms. "Sounds good Mr. Hawkins." I put my face down and nibble at his neck. He giggles.

"Nooo ... I'm hungry." He squirms away from me. He gives me a suspicious look, and dishes up a couple bowls of the tomato soup. "There's Greek yogurt in the fridge for protein. Make yourself useful and get it for us." He smirks at me.

I wink and get the yogurt. He finishes up the salad and we sit to a bowl of soup with a healthy scoop of yogurt each, and a big salad with olive oil and balsamic.

I watch him as we eat. After about half of his soup is gone he slows and seems thoughtful. He swallows and stares down at his bowl.

"Hey." I reach and put my hand under his jaw. "You okay?"

He puts his hand on mine and closes his eyes. He smiles against my touch. "Yeah." He sighs. "I don't think I've ever been better." He raises his eyes to mine. "Daniel ... I've been thinking. And if you're okay with it, I'd like to get married soon."

My heart quickens in my chest. "You ... you don't want to wait?" I lick my lips. "You sure?" I try to keep calm. "I mean, when do you want this to happen?"

He stares into my eyes. "17 March. My mom's birthday." He laughs. "I know ... it's silly and weird, but ... she wanted to see me married so badly. She wanted me to find someone and be happy." He frowns and a tear streaks down his face. "I've never been happier and I know I never will be." He wipes his face and shakes his head. "There's no reason to wait." He looks hopefully at me. "Is that okay?"

I stand and pull him to his feet. Then I hug him to me. "That's more than okay." I rub the back of his head. He clings hard to me, and I feel so glad and lucky. "I am yours, and you are mine." I whisper in his ear.

"You are mine, and I am yours." He says back to me, his tone low and reverent. He leans back, looking into my eyes. "I'm going to marry you Daniel." He laughs quietly. "I can't believe you're going to let me marry you."

In response I pull him in for a kiss. It's gentle and slow. I rub up and down his neck and head with one hand while the other circles his lower back and holds him to me.

I pull back and begin to lead him to the bedroom. He resists a moment and has the presence of mind to turn off the stove. He smiles at me, and he lets me continue with him in tow. We get to the side of the bed and his eyes look into mine with such an incredible and honest intensity. I know I'm looking at the real him. That he's giving all of himself to me - nothing hidden. Nothing held back. All of him is mine.

With Jason I always had to second guess. I always had to be on guard. And in this moment, I know with perfect clarity that Wayne will never be that. Instead he will be everything I need, and everything I could want. His only agenda is to be my partner ... to be my husband. It's an emotional gut-punch. I struggle to hold it together. Instead of displaying emotion through tears I've got another path to take.

I gently undress us. Our kisses and touches linger, and he lays on the bed taking me down with him. I put my lips on his neck and I bite then lick him. Though it's lacking the typical fire of that action. Instead it's as soft as I can manage, and chill bumps rise instantly on his skin. He throws his neck back, inviting more and I oblige. He sighs with contentment and desire.

He positions his hips so he lines up with me and I feel him apply lubricant to my member and then to himself. I raise up so I can see his face. He gazes at me. His eyes are sure of the choice he has made. I only hope I can be everything he deserves.

I push and Wayne gasps. Slowly I enter him, and as I do I bend and kiss him. His hands find my head and he runs his hands through my hair. I bottom out and he closes his eyes and works his jaw. "I love you Daniel." His voice is tinged with emotion, and there's no doubt he speaks his truth.

"I know." I begin motion at my hips. "And I love you Wayne."

We go back to our slow and intense kiss. My pelvis continues to move and my hand closes warm and firm on his cock. His eyes roll back in his head, and I stroke while I make love to him.

Wayne's legs circle my waist and he pulls himself into me. It forces my dick even deeper into him and both of us open our mouths with a groan. He adds the strength of his legs in time to my thrusts. And as my orgasm nears the animal part of my brain begins to take over. Wayne thrashes under me and his back arches.

"Ah. Daniel." His eyes open and he stares up at me. Then he clenches his teeth and lets loose a moan, a sound of intimate pleasure. I feel his muscles rhythmically grip me as he gets off, and I push forward hard.

A grunt escapes as I begin to release, and I lean down to kiss him. We make out and we both breathe heavily around one another's mouths. Wayne finally relaxes, and his legs drop from around me and his head rests back on the pillow. I lay gentle kisses on his neck, and spend a little extra time on his scar. I hear him smile, and that's really all I want out of life. I just want to make him smile.

We get up and get ourselves into the shower and cleaned up. After we finish we dress and head back to the kitchen. Martha is there. Her papers and drawings are all over the kitchen table, and it looks like she has started something else for a crock pot dinner. Ingredients are all over the island. She looks up as we come in.

She smiles. She seems to smile so easily now, and I love Saul for that. "Hey guys."

"Hey Martha." I look at Wayne, and he seems to understand what I want to do. He smiles and nods. I pull him with me, and we sit at the island across from Martha. "So we have something to tell you."

Martha could hear something in my voice, and she immediately stops prepping dinner. Her eyes flick back and forth between us. "Okay. What's up?"

I look at Wayne. "Go ahead Daniel." He leans into me. "She's your sister. You tell her."

I grin. "Martha, the wedding is happening a little sooner than December." I know she has already started planning for our wedding, and I was a little surprised by how much she was already planning, even with almost a year of notice.

Her face goes neutral and she crosses her arms over her chest. "How much sooner?"

I lick my lips. "Ah, March?"

" ¡Dios mío en el cielo!" She leans across the counter, her eyes wide. "Daniel! There's too much to do!" She looks almost stricken. "I ... I don't know if I can do it!" Martha was handling everything for the wedding, and I suddenly realized how much of a burden this was to her.

"Martha ... I know it's sudden," Wayne began, "and I'll ask my sister to handle everything. She still has a good idea of what is available in the county, and she loves LOVES to plan parties." He nods, sure of this course. "Don't stress. I know you're going to have too much going on with the building to be able to do both. The date change is my fault, so I'll get it all handled. Okay?"

Martha looks at Wayne and her breathing slows back to normal. She finally nods. "Okay." She picks up her knife and continues meal prep. "She can call me if she needs something handled in person."

"Okay. Thanks Martha." Wayne says.

She continues to chop, then she looks up and I'm stunned to see her crying. She puts the knife down and comes around the island and throws her arms around us both.

We hug the fiercest, most capable woman I know.

As her face is down I hear her voice. "If you tell Saul about me crying, you'll both regret it."

We all laugh, but I know she's serious.

I'd have it no other way.
