From Chapter 8:
"Mike... I'm in love with you, and I want to be a part of your life forever. Huney?" I felt him stir, and look up with wide eyes. "Baby, will you marry me?"

Chapter 9 -- "Happiness"

Mike's Point of View

My mind was slowly brought into consciousness as I felt my hand being squeezed, and the faint sounds of someone trying to speak. As I woke up, I turned to look at my baby and saw him smiling at me, and he proposed! My heart started to beat excitedly, and though I tried to speak a couple times, my mouth failed me. My eyes filled with tears of happiness. Finally after 4 failed attempts, I was able to speak.

       "Oh baby, OF COURSE I'll marry you! Oh god babe, I thought I was going to lose you..."

       "Sweet'ms I would never leave you. I heard you crying for me to come back, and I had to stay with you. I'm sorry I don't have a ring, but promise me that we'll go to the jewelry store when I get out of here for a pair of rings for the two of us?"

       "Sweetie, a ring is a ring. What matters to me the most is that you're okay, and you're my FIANCE!!! I love you baby."

With that, I leaned up and gave my baby a long passionate kiss. I knew the doctors would be pleased that Matt was now awake, so I pressed the nurse button. A couple of seconds later, a nurse came rushing in.

       "Yes Mike? Is anything... OH! You're awake!!! Let me go get the doctor. I'll be back."

The nurse looked a bit flushed seeing Matt and I holding hands, but that was her problem, not ours. A few minutes later, the doctor came walking in, with a big smile on his face.

       "Ah back in the land of the living eh Matt? We almost lost you there. How're you feeling?"

       "Fantastic! How was my Mike handling this? Am I going to be okay?"

       "We aren't completely sure, but we pretty much think you'll come out of this perfectly fine. The stab to your stomach lacerated part of your kidney and liver, and that's why you went into cardiac arrest due to the toxins, but we were able to revive you. You'll have a scar on your stomach, and a scar across your chest, but I think you should be perfectly healthy. Mike was taking it hard, from what I saw. Thankfully there was a young man with him to comfort him. By the way my name is Dr. Rotherfarm"

During this whole conversation, a nurse had walked in and began to take vital signs of Matt. When Dr. Rotherfarm mentioned Tad, Matt's eyes looked at me wide, questioning who the young man with me was. I squeezed his hand and mouthed later. After a couple minutes of poking and prodding Matt, they left us alone, telling us that they would move Matt to a private room soon. As soon as they left the room, Matt spoke up.

       "Baby... who's that young man the doctor was talking about... is that someone new... is that.."

       I gently kissed Matt to shush him. "No sweetie. I would never betray you, or your trust. The young man's name is Tad. He's a college student at your college. He and a couple of his friends grouped together and were able to wrestle you away from Tim and John. He was here to help keep me strong. If it wasn't for him, I don't know how I could have handled it. My mind was so scared that I would lose you..."

       "It's alright babe. I understand. Can you tell Tad thanks for what he did? He risked his own life for us, and I owe him mine." Matt gave me a gentle smile, but it was soon replaced with a slight frown. "Sweetie... What do you think will happen to Tim and John?"

       "I don't know hun... Right now I want them to burn in hell. They hurt you, and I can never forgive my father for doing that. Don't worry, they're locked up and will never hurt you again."

       "I just wonder. What made those two conspire to do something to me? Why me? Am I weak? Do I attract those kind of things? Mike... You shouldn't want to marry me. God I only cause problems. Look at you, you're crying because I got hurt, you risked your life for me, and you lost your father. I'm not worth it Mike..."

       My heart broke, knowing that as a result of this turmoil, Matt's going to suffer a long time with guilt, sorrow, and lack of self confidence. "Sweetie, this is none of your fault. You couldn't have done anything to prevent it. We tried our best to be safe. If anyone's at fault, it's MY fault for leaving you alone. I saw John and who I thought was Tim talking right before the incident and I wasn't very comfortable. I should have dragged you to the bathroom or stayed with you. I should have trusted my instincts. I couldn't protect you. I...I thought it would be safe with all the people in the restaurant... I should have known..." I choked up and couldn't say anymore, as my grief took over at my failure to protect my one and only love.

       "Oh Mikey... Don't feel bad for what happened... I just ... I think it'll take me time to get over this, and I guess we'll have to work together to overcome the issues that rise from this. I don't want John and Tim to suffer too much. They need help, and I'm not sure that sending them to jail or death will help them one bit."

I heard that, and I knew that Matt was the sweetest and kindest person I had ever met, and I was absolutely lucky to have him as my fiancée. John and Tim caused him so much problem, and he had full reason to hate their guts. Instead, my sweetie worried about how badly John and Tim were going to be treated and what was best for them. I knew from then on, that no matter what happened in the future, I would fight for his love no matter what.

       "Mr. Kim, and Mr. Gatheris? I'm Sheriff Ningamoff, and I've been assigned to investigate your case. Well, we've already had so many statements, that we're pretty sure that those two will never set foot out of jail. We've charged them with assault with a deadly weapon, attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, and false imprisonment. We're going to need your statements soon, especially on what might have been the motive."

Matt squeezed my hand and answered the sheriff's questions. He mentioned the meeting and dumping of Tim, the meeting and attempted rape by John, and how he and I had met. I held his hand tightly and my free hand stroked his forehead to give him strength. My babywas so strong during the interview, I knew he was hurting by looking in his eyes, but he put on a brave front for the sheriff. When it came to my turn, I repeated what I knew about the situation and what I saw happen. Pretty soon the interview was over, and the Sheriff thanked us, and expressed his condolences to Matt for what happened. He then left with a smile and a wave.

The next couple days were a blur. I stayed in Matt's room almost the entire time, and only left the hospital a couple times to change and shower. Tad came in with his friends a couple times to see how Matt was doing. Matt and Tad got along real well, and they soon became good friends. We all wondered why Tad was still single since Tad had risked his own life for strangers and was a definite hero. Tad claimed he was straight, but was still looking for that girl to make his heart flutter. His friends, though at first a little unsure about Matt and I, eventually warmed up to us and we hung out a lot.

John and Tim were sentenced each to life in prison without the possibility of parole. They both pleaded no contest to the charges, given the amount of witnesses that could have shown their guilt. The death penalty was not an option, given their plea, but Matt had already expressed the desire against the death penalty. The real reason they attempted to murder Matt is still unknown, but we do know that they had tried to find Matt alone a couple times, but had failed to corner him. Once they saw Matt and me at the restaurant they had made their move once I was in the bathroom. Though Matt was a little sad that neither would get the treatment that he felt was needed for the two of them, he agreed that there had to be some form of punishment rather than none.

A couple months later, after extensive planning, Matt and I had our wedding. Our family members and our friends were all there. A couple of John's ex co-workers who had all been shocked at John's actions, came to show support, and it meant a lot to Matt that not everything related to John was evil. The first couple of weeks, Matt had shied away from me, but after I confronted him, he admitted he was scared I would turn on him, like John did. I pulled him in my arms and gave him kisses all night long, trying to reassure him that I loved him, and would protect him. It was decided that I would walk up the aisle and Matt would wait for me at the altar. The day was bright and sunny, an omen that good things were in our future. We had asked Tad to be our best man and his older sister to be our maid of honor and they both enthusiastically accepted.

As I walked up the aisle, I smiled broadly at the knowledge that after this day, though not legal, we would become husbands, and I would be his and he would be mine for the rest of our lives. When I saw Matt waiting at the alter smiling at me, my heart skipped a beat. He was gorgeous in his Armani suit, with a white shirt and bow tie. Seeing him standing there waiting for me diminished any tiny remaining fears that I felt. It was time for me and Matt to become one for the rest of our lives.

Matt's Point of View

Watching my sweetie walk up the aisle in his gorgeous Ralph Lauren suit made my heart flutter. The last couple of months were fantastic for the both of us. Though once in awhile, I feared him, due to his relation to John, Mike would assure me that he would never become John, and that it would kill him to hurt me. After awhile, I realized that any fears that I had before were not justified and that Mike would forever protect me. As soon as my sweetie walked up and joined me, we joined hands and smiled to our guests. We walked up the steps to the priest, and he did his normal procedure. My mind did not process what he said, as I was concentrating the whole time on Mike's eyes. We expressed our love and affection through our eyes.

       "Do you, Matt Kim take Mike Gatheris to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and hold; and do you promise, forsaking all others, to cleave to him and to him alone, for as long as you both shall live?"

       "I do"

       "Do you, Mike Gatheris take Matt Kim to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and hold; and do you promise, forsaking all others, to cleave to him and to him alone, for as long as you both shall live?"

       "I do."

       "Matt, Repeat after me: I, Matt Kim, / take thee Mike Gatheris, / to be my lawfully wedded husband, / to have and to hold / from this day forward, / for better or for worse, / for richer or for poorer, / in sickness and in health, / to love and to cherish, / till death do us part. / by God's holy ordinance / I pledge to you my faith."

       "Mike, Repeat after me: I, Mike Gatheris, / take thee Matt Kim, / to be my lawfully wedded husband, / to have and to hold / from this day forward, / for better or for worse, / for richer or for poorer, / in sickness and in health, / to love and to cherish, / till death do us part. / by God's holy ordinance / I pledge to you my faith."

With that done, we exchanged our wedding bands, and squeezed each others hands, again mouthing that we loved each other. The priest then said the last words.

       "I now pronounce you as husband and husband. You may kiss your husband."

With that, Mike and I kissed long and passionate, to the cheers and applause of our friends and family. We walked down the aisle hand in hand and we walked to our limousine. That night we celebrated long and hard with our friends. Mike and I were forever embarrassed at the crazy stories about Mike and me, but we loved it just the same. Right after the reception, Mike and I rushed to the airport to our honeymoon in Hawaii. Throughout the flight, Mike pulled me up against him and slept, while my arm was draped around him. After we checked into our honeymoon suite, Mike pulled me into his arms and carried me to the bed.

       "Baby... Hubbie.. I love you... I promise you that I will be faithful. Will you make love to me?"

       "Oh baby. Of course I will, if that's what you want."

With that, we spent the rest of the night making love with each other, and eventually we lay in bed, intertwined. Mike pulled me up tight to his body, his penis resting deep inside of me. Right before we fell into deep sleep, Mike whispered in my ear.

       "Baby, I will love you forever and ever and ever ..."

~~~THE END~~~
So this is the first attempt at writing any gay fiction. I'm now officially done with the story. I MAY or may NOT do a sequel. If there's an epilogue to the story, there's no sequel. If there isn't, there most likely will be a sequel, but focusing on other characters. :-) Send any comments or suggestions to: [altheauthor@sbcglobal.net](mailto:altheauthor@sbcglobal.net?subject=Unexpected Encounter Chapter 9). I have as a result of emails, created a yahoo group to get info on future chapters. it is at Yahoo! Groups AltheAuthor. =) I would like to thank all of those people who have emailed me with their support or thoughts of the story. I would also like the people who unknowingly edited my entire story for me. You know who you are. :) *HUGS TO YOU!*. Well I hope you enjoyed this chapter.
