To all who have read the story and sent emails, thanks. I promised myself that I would write a lot of chapters before I started publishing again. I aimed for the end of Christmas and New Years for the guys. Chapter 18 is my last written chapter.
I am going to take a break. If you think that I should continue the story, let me know. I have some ideas but spring is with us in the north and I have many chores at home and in the country along with my choir's concert in May. If I continue, I shall again write quite a few chapters before I publish.
For those of you in north, enjoy Spring; it has finally come! All the best to all.

As they drove off, Brett was clearly moved. "I am so proud of my mother. I have never seen her do anything like that in my life. I think that Dad is going to hear from her. He may even be sleeping in my room for a few nights." He started to snicker. "I guess I shouldn't have those thoughts like that about my parents but ...." He started to laugh.
They all laughed and then looking at Robert. Brett continued. "I saw you watching your dads dancing that night at the club with a really good look on your face. You looked so proud of them and then later, of your grandparents."
"Yep, I was hoping that I would be doing exactly what they were doing that when I am that age, dancing with someone I still love after all those years. You obviously saw Jamie and Philipo dancing."
Paul spoke up. "It is hard to believe that they are your grandparents. I guess now that gay marriage has been legal for so many years that we are going to see more great things like that. They are so fit, handsome and in love. Great role models." It struck Robert how far Paul and Brett had come in accepting their gay side.
No more was said for a while as they thought about the last few days. All of them realized that they had experienced really meaningful things over the last days in different ways for each of them.
Present
They stopped for some lunch at a place in Brett's hometown. It was a place that he and his friends went to when they wanted basic food that was not too expensive. It turned out to be very tasty and they had a great time talking about his visit. They were impressed when they forced Robert to tell what he had said to Marty as they left and they all thanked him for the help to diffuse the situation.
They let Brett tell the story in detail to Robert's dads. Again his dads were impressed by how the guys handled themselves. They too wondered what would happen between his mother, father and Marty. Brett hoped that Patrick would let himself fade into the background and not get caught up in the problem.
Brett left them and sent Patrick an email and told him to phone him to let him know what had happened after they left. Later in the day, he got the call. His mother had not backed down and his father was in fact relegated to Brett's room for a few nights. Patrick simply said to his father and Marty that he and Anne had come home just like Marty and his father for a post Christmas lunch. Brett was relieved to know that Patrick was not involved.
They didn't do a lot more but get caught up on emails, read a bit for their courses and watched some TV. Robert went over for the last time the emails that Philipo had sent him with updates to the web site. As far as he could see, he had included all of the changes and additions. He went over his notes on how to replace and post the new web site. He was ready.
Robert had a call from one of his buddies asking if he would like to meet his high school friends in a game of hockey on December 29. It would be a chance to see his friends and get some practice and some exercise. They had been doing a daily run but it wasn't enough. When he told his buddy about who was staying at his home, his friend had told him to bring Lucas and Paul. Brett had heard the plans and he mentioned that he had brought skates and a hockey stick with him. The guys looked at him.
"I played a bit in high school. I need the exercise as well. If it is just a friendly game, I would like to join in if it is OK." Robert made the arrangements.
Robert was up early the next day, the 28th. He went down early for coffee and breakfast. He was excited about his meeting with Philipo. He heard a noise at the kitchen door. There was his guy yawning and scratching himself. Robert started to chuckle. "You even look fairly good doing that. Come here." He gave him a peck on the lips and pat on the ass.
"I hope that you don't mind my not going with you today. I have some reading that I want to do on an article on forensic accounting that my professor gave me. I just didn't have time to read it before exams. I am taking his course in forensic accounting next term."
"I know that Jamie would love to see you but I'll explain. He will be delighted that you are reading that article. I have a lot to do with Philipo and I need to really concentrate to do the whole process correctly. Oh tell my dads that if there is a call for me, it is probably Jim with a time and place for our game tomorrow."
Robert arrived at his grandparents to be met by a very expectant Philipo. The three of them talked for a few minutes. It was Jamie who excused himself from the group. As he left, he looked at Robert. "You know it is amazing. When your dads told us what they were going to do after their talk with Father Gregory 19 years ago, we were surprised. Luckily we kept our mouths shut. After they told us about the adoption, Philipo and I reminisced about how Jeremy had fitted into our lives day by day but what your dads were doing was something completely different. We enjoyed your growing up so much. Now we can hardly believe that we have a grandson who is captain of a university hockey team and is about to replace Philipo's web site with a really good new one that he has constructed."
He reached over and gave him a hug. Robert was touched but he was soon no nonsense with Philipo as they went over the site for the last time. They could see no errors and Philipo had been over it by himself and with Jamie and they were both satisfied with the site.
Robert pushed the enter key and the process started. Very soon after, he rebooted Philipo's computer and let Philipo push the enter key for the web address and with both of them looking, the web site loaded and it was up and running. Philipo was almost like a kid as he pushed buttons and tabs. All were working.
Robert heard a sound from the kitchen that sounded like a bottle of bubbly being opened. He smiled to himself. He should have know that would happen. Jamie had been working out in the kitchen and came in with plates of nibbles which looked delicious.
He put them on the table. Then he came in with a tray of three glasses and a bottle of Champagne. "Jamie, that is the real stuff. I wish Lucas could be here to taste it."
"You sound like your dads. Give him a call and get him over here. I have made some good things for lunch.
"Hi Dad. Could you get the big lout for me?"
He waited. Jamie asked him if Brett and Paul wanted to come for lunch.
"Hey, command performance. Jamie has opened a bottle of real Champagne and he has made some delicious nibbles and then something special for lunch. He and I would like you here. Paul and Brett can come to if they want to taste the real stuff. Rush over, the champagne might disappear quickly." He laughed at Lucas' comment.
"You remind me so much of your dads and of my guy as well. What did he say?"
Chuckling, "If I say there is no Champagne left, then he might use the word 'no' to something else tonight."
Laughing, "Yes, just like your dads and Philipo." His look at Philipo was touching.
They sipped their drinks slowly and ate a few nibbles. Jamie put the lasagna in the oven to heat. A very short time later, three shining faces invaded their home. It was instant confusion as Lucas was demanding if Robbie had left anything to eat or drink. Jamie produced the bottle that was still half full and served all the guys. He did mention that there was another bottle in the refrigerator.
Philipo had a refill and he looked at Robert. "A toast to my grandson and the great work he has done for me and Marchese Construction." Robert felt Lucas' arm go over his shoulder. He heard the whispered 'well down' from Lucas. Then Philipo brought his laptop back to life and loaded the site. It did bring lots of positive comments from around the room.
It was Brett who summed it up. "I am taking that course next term. This is a very high standard."
They had a raucous lunch, loud, interesting, enthusiastic conversation. Robert noticed several times the looks on the faces of Philipo and Jamie as they looked at him and his friends. At one point, Jamie put his arm over Philpo's shoulder and they smiled at each other. Yes thought Robert, this is what I want when I am their age.
They were up early the next day and were soon out of the house with their hockey equipment. It was a great reunion for Robert with some of his high school hockey buddies. With the four of them, they had enough for two full teams. They decided on how to organize the teams. Brett said that he played forward so Robert offered to take him on his team. He figured that he could cover for Brett if his skills weren't up to the other guys. All of the others there had been on the high school team. Lucas and Robert had agreed to play against each other.
The game started slowly as most of the guys had not played a lot in the fall as they were not on the university team but as the minutes went by Robert could see that his high school friends were starting to get back their style. Robert began to watch Brett. He was a fast and agile skater. As he started to pass to him more, he realized that he was a really good stick handler. In fact, after about 10 minutes of play, one of his team had given Brett a pass and he had skated fast down the rink and skated and stick handled around Lucas and scored. Robert smiled when he saw the amazed look on Lucas' face. As the game progressed, Brett only became better.
Finally their time on the ice came to an end and they had to leave the rink. Jim yelled out that it was pub time and they would go to their usual pub for lunch. Everyone agreed that that was great way to end their time together.
As they took their skates off. Robert looked over at Brett. "Hey, Brett, you commented after our game here weeks before Christmas that the game was almost as good as a good math puzzle."
"Yeah so!"
"I think that you didn't bother to mention that you can really play hockey well."
"Well no one asked and that is the way I feel about me and hockey."
"Hell, I watched you today. You could have tried out for the university team. "
Paul came up beside him. "You bugger. Robert is right. You can really play."
"Guys there isn't a lot to do in a small town with a family that doesn't have much money. Play hockey, drink and screw around with girls. Well the last one was out for me. I had to save all my money for books and university. It left hockey. I played on the school team; believe me, small stuff. I was pretty sure that I could get an academic scholarship to attend university and that is what I wanted. My courses have to be my focus or I don't get to stay at university."
It was Lucas who looked at Brett. "Guys, he is right. That move he made around me was really well done but that is nothing compared to what I understand that he is doing in his studies."
The other guys looked a little sheepish. They knew that Lucas was right and that they were they were in public. Paul wanted to hug him but he yelled out looking at Brett, "Drinks on us, Brett. Best damn hockey player and math genius that I have ever met." The look on Brett's face was worth it.
Robert really enjoyed catching up with his buddies. Lucas and Paul talked about their university team with the guys and Brett found a guy, Jake, who was studying math and computers. Brett seemed to enjoy himself; the conversation with Jake was quite animated.
Jim who had invited them to play looked at them. "Are you guys staying around for New Years. I am having a bunch of people over for a party at my place. Do you want to come?"
Robert and Lucas looked at each other. Jim misunderstood the look. "Guys you can invite some girls if you want. Robert, you can bring Anna; I'd love to see her."
Lucas the bugger had a little smirk on his face. Robert wanted to break our laughing at him. "Jim, Anna and I broke it off last summer. We decided that long distance relationships weren't a good idea. I met her boyfriend before Christmas."
"Sorry, didn't know. Bring who ever you want or come single."
Lucas looked at Robert with a smile and a look that asked if he were going to tell Jim their secret. Robert smiled. "Jim, I don't want to hide anything. When I tell you something, you might want to take back your invitation. That big lug over there, Lucas, is my partner now."
"Yeah you are co-captains. So what?"
"Jim, we are together, like my dads."
"Oh shit but you were with Anna all last year and I know where you were on grad night."
"That wasn't our first time but it was our last. Jim, it is OK. I don't want to push. Some guys might be put off with us dancing together and there is no way that I am going to not dance and to miss a big New Years midnight kiss with that big guy over there."
One of the other guys in his group of high school friends, Mike, looked over and with a tone of disgust in his voice. "Come on Jim, we don't want a couple of gays at the party. Ir might upset people. I don't think that my date would be comfortable."
Tone of voice, attitude, Robert had an instant reaction to Mike's comment. He had experienced too much of this crap this Fall. He thought that he was a friend. "I see. It was OK to accept my parents' hospitality and our house. No one seemed to be bothered then. You certainly drank their beer and food. Fuck."
"Fuck, yourself. We didn't have much choice, did we? It was often your place or no place. Your dads didn't do any of that gay shit when we were around."
"Shit and I thought that you were a friend who would support me. Screw this." He stood up to leave.
It was Lucas who acted. Quietly with hand on his arm, "Robbie, please sit for a minute."
Lucas had never done anything like this before. He smiled at Robert and had him sit down. Quietly, "It has been a great time with your buddies. Let's not end it like this."
Robert was about to say something but Lucas shook his head. Lucas looked over at Jim. "Jim, we really enjoyed the game and the pub. Thanks so much for the invitation for New Years Eve. Give it some thought and let us know if you would like us to be there. I don't know if Paul and Brett were also invited. They are staying at Robbie's home for New Years."
Jim looked relieved. "Thanks Lucas. I learned a lot from Robbie's dads; they were incredible role models for me. I don't feel the way Mike does at all. Besides I won't be watching you two kiss; I'll be kissing my girl."
Lucas felt Robbie's arm on his and he heard the quiet 'thanks big guy'.
Robert looked at Jim. "Sorry Jim. I have had some things happen this last term that made me react to comments like that. Lucas is right. We had a great game and great time at the pub."
He blew air out of his mouth. "Mike, sorry I reacted but we had two things happen to us this term and I guess they still spook me a bit. Today was a great way to spend a day in the holidays. Thanks for including us."
They were in the car. Brett spoke up from the back seat. "Robbie don't feel bad. If you and Lucas hadn't spoken up, I was going to go into family mode with that bastard. Lucas, thank you. The diplomat, nice job. Robert, good reply." Lucas felt Robert's hand on his leg in agreement with Brett.
Later, hey put some food together from left overs and some of the things that Jamie had sent home with them. Jeremy and Timothy listened to the guys talk over the game, the pub and Mike's comment. Jeremy was to say that he was impressed by the guys. He decided that he would talk to Robert quietly to see if he was having any problems with what had happened in the last couple of months on campus. They were impressed with Lucas' comment to smooth over their son's anger. They were really impressed with Brett and Paul. It was pretty clear that their son had made some very good friendships in his first term at university.
The call came later that day. Jeremy took the call and talked enthusiastically and then called to Robert. "Hey son, Jim is on the phone."
They chatted for a couple of minutes about the game and the pub the previous day. "Robbie, I had long talk with Mike. He says that you were right but he was surprised by your reaction. We never saw you like that before. You were right. Mike was out of line and he agrees. Lucas is quite a guy. Just for my information, are Paul and Brett partners."
"Yes Paul and Brett are together.." He went on to explain what had happened in the fall term to him and Lucas and then what had happened with Brett and his brother."
"OK, I'll let Mike know. All that happened and you still had time for university hockey and all your courses. Look, we are looking forward to seeing you. We are planning on dancing, card games and computer games, just like we did at your house so many times. Our dates know what to expect and it should be a great evening. Hope you will come."
They talked it over and decided to take up his offer and go to the party. It was clear that Brett didn't have the money for going out to a restaurant or a dance club on New Years Eve. It was just too expensive and he wold be insulted if the guys tried to pay for it. Brett had enjoyed his time with Robert's buddies and he didn't mind being with Paul at a mixed party.
On the 30th, Paul and Brent wanted to go to the biggest mall in town to see if there were still some sales. Both needed a few essentials to take back with them. That morning when he was ready and waiting for the guys to come down, he sat down with his Dad.
"Dad before the guys come down, I wanted to give you a heads up. Do you think that there might be jobs for all of us, Lucas and me, with The Accountants, Marchese Construction, with Papa's law firm or any contacts that you might have? Brett can't go home. Paul and Brett would like to be together and so would Lucas and I. I know it is a lot to ask but I thought that I would let you know in advance."
"Well first, would you all be prepared to work for Philipo part of the time. He always needs extra hires in the peak season, especially guys who he knows that he can trust." Robert nodded yes. "I know that I can take you and probably Lucas on for half time. I'll see what Michael Burtchell could do for Lucas or Paul. I would really like to have all of you here for the spring and summer. Give me some time in January to see what I can do. What about Lucas working for a week with someone here and then a week with his father a few times. Maybe he could take you on for any computer work that he needs done for all or part of the summer. Maybe your Papa could use some computer work done in his firm."
"Thanks Dad. I'll talk to the guys and make certain that this is OK with them. I am certain that Brett would work construction if he had to. He really is an fascinating guy. I guess you heard us yesterday about his hockey abilities and in addition, he is really brilliant in math. I thought that I was advanced in math. He is way beyond me."
Jeremy raised the question of his reaction to Mike's comment. They talked it over coming at it from several viewpoints. "Your right I did overreact. I think that I am OK. I am going to have to watch my reactions. Lucas was great; he was right there for me. He calmed me down and then said the things that I should have said. Thanks Dad for talking about this. It was helpful. If I have any problems, I shall check in with a counsellor at the university. It is going to be a busy, exciting term and I don't want to screw it up."
Jeremy gave his son a hug. "I commented to Timothy the other day that you two reminded me of us back when we started out together. I hope that you know how happy we are for you and Lucas."
"Dad, I said to Lucas the other day that I want to be like you when I reached your age. Committed and still in love with my guy."
"I have been lucky and blessed. First with Jamie and Philipo taking me in and then meeting your Papa. Timothy is centre of my life. So yes, I hope you do have what I have in years to come."
Later that day. He sat down with Lucas and told him about his morning discussion with his Dad. He explained both his Dad's concern over his reaction to Mike at the Pub. Robert told his guy how thankful he was for how Lucas had handled the situation. He got a couple of smart ass comments from Lucas about how well he had handled the situation. They both laughed and called each other names.
Lucas was excited about the possibility of summer jobs together. He was really enthusiastic that they might be able to work some time for Mr. Stephenson for part of the summer especially now that Robert had been accepted at his home. That led to some kisses and then to something else even more exciting.
Robert sat down with the Brett and Paul that evening in front of the fire with some scotch and recounted his talk with his Dad. He explained some of the ways the summer work might go but he wanted them to know that Paul and Brett knew that they had a home after the term ended. Brett and Paul were enthusiastic about the possibilities and told Robert that he would talk with Robert's dad in the next couple of days. He reminded them that the chalet was also open to them and there was not enough room on some weekends that they had a couple of two man tents. Some rather interesting scenarios were voiced as to what could be done in a two man tent.
They decided to go the club the night before New Years. It would be busy and fun and not expensive. Then they would all go to Jim's for New Years Eve, especially after Robert told them about his talk with Jim.
Finally, Robert looked at Paul and Brett. "So when you go, you can go as couple and both Jim and Mike are there for all of us. It is going to be very different from our life on campus. If I know my buddies, it should be a good evening. I'll make certain the diplomat is close by me"
Paul chuckled. "If you dance with him there as you do at the club, we would have to use a crowbar to get you apart a 12 midnight."
Robert with indignation, "Shit you guys were almost having sex out on the dance floor last time."
That started off a lot of comments back and forth and then laughter. Jeremy and Timothy had deliberately stayed in their small back area and they heard some of the last comments and heard the laughing.
They turned to look at each other. It was Timothy who stood and grabbed his guy. "I never dreamed on that night that I proposed to you that we would be sitting here hearing laughter like that in our home. We must be luckiest people in the world."
"No, wrong, I am the luckiest person in the world."
Before Timothy could reply, Jeremy pulled Timothy to him and kissed him passionately. Luckily they could make their way upstairs without being seen by the guys. Minutes later, they were naked and showing each other how lucky they felt that they were. The guys downstairs would have been impressed by the demonstration.
The club that night was a celebration of all the great things that had happened to them in the last weeks. It was a celebration of the comradeship that had grown even closer over the Christmas holiday. Each guy had something to be truly thankful for. They didn't drink a lot but they danced the entire night. They let loose with the fast ones and then molded their bodies to their partners during the slow dances. It was fun, exciting and erotic, a wonderful mixture. All the guys at one time or another were groped by other guys as they went to the bar or the washroom. Brett was propositioned in the bathroom which he turned down diplomatically. Lucas found a guy watching him using the urinals. He smiled to himself. Both Robert and Paul had felt hands touch them as they went to get drinks. Both took it as a compliment. It was a great way to spend the penultimate night before the New Year.
They didn't do a lot on New Years Eve day. They spent time getting ready for the next term and doing a bit of packing as they had decided to leave for university on New Years Day immediately after an early lunch. By 6, they ate a bit of food and packaged up the cheese, pate and bags of chips and cheesies that they had bought. The beer and wine were already in the car. Showers, dressed and at the front door, they were ready to go at 8:45. Robert yelled goodbye to his dads who yelled down, 'just a second'.
Jeremy and Timothy came down the stairs dressed for the party that they were attending. They heard the gasp from Paul and the wow from Brett. Robert looked at his two dads, dressed in well tailored suits in conservative colours that looked great on them.
Robert smiled. "Dad, Papa, you both look incredible." The others echoed his comments.
Jeremy, "Guys have a great time. You all look great. Remember that the police are out in force tonight. I am saying that more to myself than you. We'll say it tomorrow but Happy New Year guys." Timothy went over and shook Paul and Brett's hands and then he gave each a hug. To Lucas that hug was very special just as Robert's arm over his shoulder was as they said goodbye to Anna on Christmas Eve. Jeremy followed Timothy' lead.
The guys were off. They arrived to a fair number of people already there. Jim welcomed them heartily as did his girlfriend. They were introduced to some of the other guys and girlfriends. They saw Mike in another room. When they entered it, Mike headed straight for the guys.
"Hey, good to see you again. Good hockey match and pub. I would like you to meet my girlfriend Allison." They all shook hands.
With a bit of a smile, Allison looked them over. "It is a pity ... that you guys are taken. We have single girls here who would love to meet you but ...." She shrugged her shoulders and then started to laugh. "Just kidding guys. You know that you are welcome."
Mike told them the lay of the land, where the card games and computer games were and where the dancing would be when it was set up. He took them over to put their beer in the large container with ice. They put their wine on the table with the rest. They had bought a sparkling wine for the four them at midnight; they couldn't afford Champagne.
A few minutes later,Lucas headed for the card games and down the stairs to the games. Robert heard a loud shout from Mike. "Lucas, hope you are ready to lose some money."
"Right, we'll see about that!" Robert chuckled to himself and thought that the guys won't know what hit them when they saw the competitive side to his guy.
Robert decided to get a drink and talk with any of the guys who were there. The first guy he met was Jake who had seen talking to Brett at the Pub.
"Hey Robert, great game and pub. Glad you sorted out Mike. I think that there were a number of us who would have stepped in but your guy, Lucas, was great."
"As I said, I had a couple of things happen in the fall term that upset me even though we managed them OK. Mike took me by surprise and I over reacted." He saw the look on Jake's face. "Yeah I did over react and my Dad and I had a talk about it yesterday. We worked it out. Lucas knows and he is great."
"Yes that's what bothered me. I sat in that back room at your home with your dads and talked over problems with them several times. They really steered me in the right direction. I am in math and computer science and doing really well. They were really important to me and I never really thanked them."
"I know them so well. They would just laugh and say great for you. If you ever meet them, tell them."
"Is Brett here? I would like to see him again. He is one bright guy. I thought that I was good in math and so were you. But he is ...." Both of guys spoke together, "Way beyond me."
They both started to chuckle. "If you get a chance talk to him about computer science/technology. His family is not well off and I have mentioned to him that math and computer technology would be a great area to be in. I always add that computer work pays well."
"Are he and Paul together?"
"Yes."
He told him how Lucas and he came to know that Paul was like them. They talked for a while and then they moved off to talk to others.
A while later, Robert heard the music go on. He figured that the dancing had started. He knew what he wanted: his guy on the dance floor.
As Robert, went down the stairs to the card games, he heard Lucas voice yell out. "See them and weep guys."
He heard Mike laughing. "Shit you can bluff as well as you can bet. I am out of here before you clean me out. Better go and get my girl for some dancing. It can make her quite ... romantic." There were laughs and mutters around the table.
Mike saw Robert come into the room. As Mike passed him, "Your guy is quite a guy. Great hockey player and very good at cards. Any other great things about him?"
"You can bet on that but I think that you'll have to guess at that one."
"Oh, shit, I walked right into that one. I'm off." Robert smiled and nodded his head in a yes. Mike laughed all the way up the stairs.
Lucas looked over at Robert. Robert raised his eyebrows and nodded his head towards the stairs and upstairs. Lucas looked at the guys and said that it looked as if he was needed elsewhere.
"The dancing started a few minutes ago. I thought that we should go up and circulate and then I am in the mood to dance with my guy on New Years Eve."
There were a number of people dancing. It was a fast one. Lucas looked at Robert and asked Robert what he wanted with his face and eyes. Robert smiled and he grabbed his hand and took him to the dance area. They had danced the night before but this was a group of his friends and it was not a gay dance club. Without words, they both decided to show his buddies how well two guys could dance together and they did.
After the first dance, there were a lot of positive comments from both his buddies and their girlfriends. Finally, a slow piece started up. The guys looked at each other. They knew that it was decision time. Robert smiled. "Many years ago my Papa taught me a British expression that he had heard at work, 'In for a penny, in for a pound'. I think that that sums up my feelings about a slow dance with my guy at a party like this. We have danced a fast dance; now let's show them a slow one."
Lucas laughed. "How bloody Canadian. Here we are speaking in French to each other and you come up with a good Anglo saying. Nothing similar in Canadian English, We don't have pennies (cents) any more so 'in for a nickel, in for a loonie' (the Canadian dollar coin, no dollar bills anymore either)? Nah just doesn't cut it. I'm in for the pound."
Chuckling they moved closer to each other, closed the gap, gave each other a loving look and started dancing. Somehow it felt liberating. They enjoyed gay clubs and dancing there but here they were with hetero friends and not afraid to show this side of themselves. After a couple of minutes dancing very close and losing themselves in each other, it was Lucas who moved his head back and looked at Robert.
"You have done so many simple things that make me realize how much we mean to each other. The hand over my shoulder saying goodbye to Anne and now dancing so damn close and sensuously with me with your buddies here on New Years Eve. Can I do something that we are going to do at midnight?
Robert simply nodded yes. It was not a passionate kiss. It did not last too long. It was just a simple statement by two men in love. The slow music continued and they danced for many minutes more. They ended their time with a fast one and they went wild with it. They ended up breathing hard from exertion and laughing at the craziness of it. They left the floor hand in hand still laughing.
Jake came up to them with his girlfriend. "Guys, you have changed a lot of minds. Lucas you play cards well and the two of you looked fantastic out there on the floor. My date was impressed." Looking at Robert, "Just like your fathers."
"Thanks. One of the greatest compliments that you could give me, 'just like my fathers'. I took them for granted for most of my life and now I am recognizing just how great they are. I need a drink."
Like several of the guys with their dates, Robert put an arm over Lucas' shoulder, in for a penny, in for a pound, as they went off to get a glass of wine. Robert had a glass of wine and Lucas grabbed a beer and they were off talking to Robert's friends. Lucas found someone who was in accounting like himself and Robert found a guy in computer technology as was his girlfriend. They eventually went to a computer and looked at the Marchese Construction site. They were impressed.
At about 11:30, they decided to go back to the dancing to find Paul and Brett on the floor. Lucas and Robert danced up to them. Robert leaned over. "Shit you talk about us. I left the crowbar over in the corner to pry you two apart at 12." All they got were smiles and four dreamy eyes. Robert and Lucas joined them and they were soon just as close.
Mike came down and announced that there were only 10 minutes left until midnight. He turned on the TV to get the countdown. They all wanted to watch the Canadian broadcast so they saved the ball dropping on Times Square for later. Soon they all had glasses of bubbly in their hand. Robert, Lucas, Paul and Brett stood together and were surrounded by Robert's buddies and their dates.
To Robert it felt so good. He thanked Lucas for his intervention at the pub. Robert was surrounded by his guy, best friends from university and his high school buddies. He had an errant thought. Anna, hope that your New Years has gone better than you expected.
They counted down. There were happy New Year around the room. Robert and Lucas looked at each other. Touched each others glasses, took a sip and kissed. This was a kiss that lasted longer than earlier and they could each taste the wine in the others mouth. It went on for seconds until they could hear quiet words being spoken between couples.
The kiss ended and Robert looked at his guy. "Thanks for the best year of my life. You were right. I knew that first day that we would be friends for a long time. It just me a little while to realized how close I wanted to be. Thanks for that first kiss at the chalet."
"Robbie, I went to university that first day a mess. I decided finally that even if you were not gay that we were going to be very close friends. I was scared after the kiss that you would hate me. Then you touched me the next morning and I was in so happy. You changed my life."
There was a tap on each of their shoulders. Paul on Robert's and Brett on Lucas'. Robert had seem them kiss at midnight before he closed his eyes. "Thanks for all your support and friendship. It has been a great year." Paul gave Robert a hug.
Robert could see Brett hugging Lucas. When he finished, Paul and Brett changed partners. "Robert, I know that Lucas feels that you helped to get his family back. I know that your actions with Marty kept me from losing my year. Our little talk at lunch has changed Paul's and my relationship. Happy New Year." Robert had a long hug from Brett.
They circulated a bit as Robert wished his buddies a Happy New Year. After a few more dances and chats with friends, the guys decided to leave. While thanking Jim for all that he had done, Robert mentioned the dates and time of their next hockey game in town. Jim wrote it down and told him that he would tell the guys. They exchanged email addresses.
They arrived back at home. His dads' cars were in the driveway. They found them sitting in the living room snuggled together on the couch sipping drinks. "Welcome home guys." They stood up. They went to Brett first. "Brett, Happy New Year." They gave him a hug. Then on to Paul who was behind him. "Paul, Happy New Year."
Timothy spoke up. "You two are like family now. We hope that you know that you are always welcome to come home."
There were almost tears from the two. They knew that Timothy meant it.
Both dads turned to Lucas. "Son, Happy New Year. It will be the first of many in your new home." They hugged him. Each said something special in his ear.
Then to Robert. "Son, we are so proud of you. This has been one of our happiest Christmases. Our happiest was the year that we married and then that same year when we adopted you. We never dreamed of this day." They each hugged and gave him a kiss on the forehead or cheek.
"Now we have a bottle in refrigerator that is calling out to be opened."
Jeremy came back with a bottle of Champagne and he gently opened it while Timothy brought in the glasses. The pop of the cork and then the glasses were raised. Each took a sip and kissed their partner. They talked a bit and finally decided to turn in.
Lucas and Robert shut the door to their room. As one, the took hold of the other and kissed.
Lucas, "I enjoyed the entire evening but I have been looking forward to this moment." He kissed his guy softly.
He continued. "You have changed my life. No don't say no. You accepted me as gay. Do you have any idea how great I felt when you told me that you would move out over your dead body." Chuckling, "You forced me to go to the Chalet. Do you know how scary that was for me? Then the kiss ...."
He was becoming emotional and stopped almost in mid sentence.
"Lucas, I realized that day your mother came to campus that we were partners. I guess it was the lunch with Anna that made it so clear to me. You and I were together, soul mates."
Robert pulled him close and kissed him. It didn't take long for their carefully chosen party clothes to be scattered on the floor leaving a trail from the door to the bed.
They lay on their sides looking at each other and letting their hands roam over the others body. It was soft and gentle to start but slowly they became more focused on areas that they knew that really turned the other one on.
Lucas looked at Robert who was over him licking his nipple. "I really enjoyed tonight with your buddies. It was a great way to spend New Years Eve and then with Paul and Brett at midnight but I knew that I wanted this, you here. You are one sexy hunk."
"Hunk, I thought that that was you."
"You don't even know how your workouts have changed your body: hard, defined, magnificent. You looked incredible when you came down to get me to dance."
Lucas used his hands and fingers to slowly go over Robert's chest and then slowly down his stomach to his thighs and then just light touches to his balls and cock. Robert involuntarily drew in his breath and breathed out shuddering.
That was all it took and in the next few minutes they were all over each other. There were bites to nipples, finger nails scraped over backs, mouths on balls and tongues and mouths on two very erect objects. Somehow they let each other know that each wanted to be taken. Robert was lubed and he plunged into his guy. He came out when he almost finished.
Lucas then went slowly into Robert who tried to force him to go faster but Lucas smiled, shook his head and slowly invaded his partner. He wanted it to last.
It was minutes later that they were both primed and ready. They had quietly said that there would be a repeat later that night or early the next morning. Finally they finished within seconds of each other holding their guy as tightly as they could. There were smiles of thanks and joy for all that had happened since that first day when they had met each other.
Comments
I have had some feedback from some readers who were trying to read some of my previous stories. If you go to Authors on Nifty and find my name, when you try to access Surprised Eric and Dave from the Authors list, it doesn't connect to anything. Surprised Graham and Robert is just not there. If you want to read them, use the date and category, Adult-Friends or Beginnings etc. and go the appropriate category and date and they are there and active.
If you liked this story, you might want to read the others that I have published on Nifty. In particular, my first story, Unexpected Change which has had the most positive comments and one of my other favourites, What a Difference a Year Makes. I have recently reread Introspection and it is worth a read, Michael Burtchell's story is in Discoveries; its ending is a little weak but getting there is fun.
