THIS CHAPTER ENDS THE UNEXPECTED STORY.
Some comments from Dave Preecher
My apologies for taking so long to finish this last chapter of Unexpected. I had some family problems and as so many families, we were trying to learn how to cope with Covid 19. So far, we in Canada have been fortunate to have the Federal Government and the Provinces work together as a team. At this point we are flatening the curve of infections. We keep our fingers crossed that we are fighting the virus fairly well.
I have been writing Unexpected since April, 2014. I have created three generations of an exceptional family and I hope that they have become alive for my readers. It is amazing to me that Unexpected started so simply with James finally going out dancing several months after his partner had left him. He met Philip there and they connnected. They met Jeremy as an angry, unsettled young man and he slowly became their son. Jeremy and Timothy met each other at a stag and then reconnected at the wedding of Jeremy's best friend. They discovered that they were gay and interested in each other. Robert was adpoted by Jeremy and Timothy. Robert met Lucas at university trying out for the hockey team and then discovered each other at the chalet. It has been fascinating plotting the story.
I have written two more chapters, Unexpected Robert and Lucas Five Years On. I am not certain if I shall publish those chapters. They take the lives of Robert and Lucas in a very different, unexpected ending. If I do publish the two chapters, some will enjoy them. Some will accept them. Some will not like them at all.
Possibly, this is my last story. I have been overwhelmed by the many emails and suggestions. I am certainly going to rest and enjoy life. I am not certain that I have anything more to add or say.
Thanks to everyone for your emails and comments over the years. I try to answer all emails. If I missed some, I hope that you understand. All the best to all of you as Covid 19 sweeps across our countries both in North America and around the world.
Stay healthy and well.
All my best wishes
Dave
You might want to read Unexpected Robert and Lucas 23 to remind yourself of how I left off.
Previously
Anthony, whom they had seen dancing with a guy from their table, looked at them. "I told you that I didn't have a partner. We broke up about three months ago. He was in the closet and would never go to a dance club. He was afraid to come out. I really did like him but I needed things like this. It was wonderful to see you stop and kiss each other on the dance floor." They looked around the floor and they saw Liam and Thomas dancing a slow dance. Liam said something and Thomas, smiled and leaned forward and kissed Liam. Liam pulled him tight and they danced.
At that point, a handsome guy came up to Anthony and asked him to dance. It was one of the members of the hockey team they had played with two weeks before. The guy looked at Robert and Lucas. "Hey coaches, I liked your dance. Not quite as wild as usual." A few minutes later, they scanned the floor and Anthony and the guy were dancing close. In fact, by that point, both guys had their hand on their partner's butt pulling them closer.
Anthony came off the floor. "Robert, Lucas thanks so much. Even if I don't get the position, you have shown me how to act as partners. I am heading back to Rochester. See you tomorrow. I'll bring my passport with me. I would really like to take you up on your crash course of Forensic+. It has been a great evening." They watched him as he went on the dance floor and said his good bye to Thomas and Liam.
They danced another set and Thomas sat beside them. "I am tired and we have another big day tomorrow. I hope that he works out. I really liked him." He sighed. "You ready to go? You two must be exhausted."
Robert looked at him. "Yes, I feel the same as you do. He seems like a really good guy. And yes I could fall asleep just standing here. By the way, Anthony told me that he had a partner but he broke it off. His partner was in the closet and would not go out dancing or go any where else with Anthony. His partner was worried about being outed."
They said their goodnight to Thomas and Liam. In their room, Lucas looked at Robert. "Robbie as you said a couple of nights ago, I am tired but I could use some loving. The tango really is a love song that we danced to a couple of nights ago. Please make love to me, lover."
As Robert said later, they made love to each other.
Present
Anthony arrived in time for breakfast on Saturday morning. He brought in his suitcase, his passport and personal documents. He was clearly excited about going with Robert and Lucas. He had never crossed the border. They had told him to bring some US cash and credit cards and they could exchange some of it at their bank. As so many US citizens, he was totally surprised when he saw the first signs in kilomtres/hour and distances in kilometres. Lucas explained how to think in kilometres. Then they told him what the temperatures would be for that day. He looked at them as if they were crazy when they told him that it would be around 20 C to 24 C that day. They refused to convert to farenheit, basically they didn't know the conversion. They simply told him to wait until they stopped for food and drink on the 401 autoroute and he would know what 20 C to 24 C was. They laughed that this was part of his crash course.
They arrived back at their condo just after noon. They went to one of their favourite restaurants; the meal was excellent. Then they went to The Accountants.
They wandered through the offices and Athony couldn't stop talking about how great a work place that was so modern and big.
Lucas smiled at him. "I guess that I am just used to it. You are going to know this place very well over the next few days."
They went up to Robert's offices and again Athony was amazed at his firm. Anthony looked at Robert and Lucas. "I feel so unprepared for this. I can't imagine how much time and effort that Robert has put into his own firm. I guess that I have a lot to catch up on."
Lucas decided that if this was going to be a crash course then it should start that afternoon so Anthony and he went back down to The Accountant. Lucas suggested that they meet at 5 that afternoon to go back home and then go out dancing. Robert had a lot of things that he wanted to do on his own.
When they met just after 5:15, Anthony couldn't stop talking about how much he had learned that afternoon. They had a bit to eat and then showered and sat in the living room with some drinks. They had all agreed that they would not stay too late at the club as it had been a long drive and a very intense afternoon.
They arrived at the club. Lucas had phoned some of his staff and Robert had done the same thing. They introduced Anthony to all the people around the table. It was what they called the usual, Mark and Phoebe, Edward and Geoffrey, Michel and his wife, Sophie. Robert and Lucas brought some drinks back and then they looked at each other, moving their head to the dance floor. Robert looked at Anthony. "Anthony, you are on your own. You can wait until someone asks you to dance or you can find someone at the tables with just men. They are gay and there are some good looking dancers in those groups. Your choice."
Robert and Lucas were on the floor dancing to the music as it changed to a slow dance. They were dancing the slow dance. Lucas opened his eyes and then whispered in Robert's ear to look to his left.
Robert smiled. "I suspected that he would be on the floor fairly quickly. He really is a good looking guy and he can dance."
They finished the set and went back to the table. Anthony came over to their table. "Lucas, Robert, I met an interesting guy. He would like me to go back to his place for a drink. He'll drive me to your place after our drink."
"Tell him to come over to see us. I'll get his address and give him our address and telephone number. Just remember that we have a really busy day tomorrow and I do want you awake and taking in what I am telling you."
"Guys, it has been quite a while since I have actually gone out with someone. We are going to leave now and I told him that I want to be home for midnight."
With a smile Lucas looked at him. "I hope that you are prepared for the ... 'drink'."
With a smile, Anthony looked at them. He took out his wallet and he let them see the outline of a couple of condoms. "Never leave the house without them. Thanks guys. I'll be careful. All the guys that he is with are professionals: lawyers, computer programers, work in offices and a doctor in training."
The guys enjoyed the rest of the evening and they arrived home at 11:30. There was a message on their telephone. They listened to the call. "Guys, David is going to leave here at 11:40 and he figures that he'll have me home by 12:10 -- 12:15. See you soon. Bye the way, the drinks were quite refreshing." They could hear his chuckle as he ended the call
The door bell rang at 12:10. Robert opened the door. Anthony was there with the guy that he had been dancing with. "Robert and Lucas, I want you to meet David. He has asked me out for dinner tomorrow night. I hope that doesn't clash with your plans. I know that we have to work on Sunday at The Accountants."
Robert and Lucas looked at each other. "No problems here."
David left. The guys were back in the living room. Anthony sighed. "I didn't realize how much I missed being with a guy who I could talk with and be close to." He chuckled. "I would have to meet a really great guy who lives in Canada and a three hour drive away. I'll be honest. He wants me to stay the night tomorrow and the rest of the week. He knows where The Accountants is and he'll get me there for what ever time you want. I hope that you are OK with that."
Lucas smiled at him. "David seems to have it all, good looking, good job and tells you what he wants. Anthony, you are bright, handsome and you don't mind telling us exactly what is happening. Try and get to The Accountants for 9. We would like you to go up to Robert's firm on Tuesday afternoon. You are going to get a different experience there. Then back to The Accoutants again on Wednesday. We'll see how things go on Wednesday."
They met him at The Accountants on Sunday just after 9 in the morning and worked hard all day. They went back to the condo and Anthony showered and David picked him up at 7:30.
Anthony arrived at 8:25 on Monday morning. "The place is so different when the staff is here working. Thanks for your understanding for my staying with David last night, tonight and possibly Tuesday night." He looked at Lucas. "I haven't had a night or morning like that for along time."
Lucas looked at him. Wtih a smile, "Hope you got SOME sleep. We have a busy day ahead of us." Lucas put his arm around Anthony. "We are going to my office and we are going to work a case."
They worked hard all morning and took a quick lunch break and then they worked until four that afternoon. Lucas smiled at Anthony. "I think that I'll take you home now. You can have a rest, hopefully some sleep. Take a shower and if I remember, David is picking you up at 7:30. Do you know where he is taking you?"
"He really likes French cuisine. He is taking me to the best French restaurant in town."
"You are a lucky guy. It is one of our favourites. You will really enjoy it."
The door bell rang at 7:20. Anthony took one look at David and almost melted down. "You look great. Sorry that I didn't bring a suit, a tie or a jacket."
David looked at him. "Here you go. I figured that out." He handed Anthony a white dress shirt, a beautiful tie and a blue blazer.
Minutes later a very handsome young man came into the living room. Both Lucas and Robert said 'wow' at the same time. As they walked out the door, David put his arm over Anthony's shoulder and pulled him in to himself.
Lucas and Robert poured a drink and sat down. Lucas looked at Robert. "I am fairly certain that he is my choice for Thomas. He worked like a pro today. He has a grasp of how to work a case and how to use Forensic+ with it. I am going to show him some of the more advanced features tomorrow and then he can go up and see your office. I think that we could take him back to Buffalo mid afternoon on Wednesday. He is ready. I am just going to tell him that he has done well and the decision is for Thomas to make."
"Why don't you give Thomas a call tonight and tell him how we both feel about him."
He made the call and let Thomas know that he would have Anthony in Buffalo mid to late afternoon on Wednesday. They told him about his abilities in doing a case and then told him about how he didn't hold back on his personal life. They explained where he was this evening and last night. Thomas couldn't stop thanking them for what they had done for him yet again.
They guys had some work to do and finally around 11 they decided to go to bed. In their bedroom, Robert came up behind Lucas and wrapped his arms around him and pulled him in. Robert bent his head and kissed Lucas' neck. As he kissed him, he undid his the buttons of his shirt and ran his finger over his nipple."
"I didn 't see that coming. Oh, don't stop." Lucas swallowed as Robert's other hand went down his body unitl his fingers could feel Lucas' hardening erection. Lucas turned his head. "I don't know what brought this on but no complaints from me."
Robert leaned over and he kissed Lucas on his lips. Tongues started to invade each others mouths. Robert pulled back and turned Lucas around to face him. In seconds, Lucas was naked.
Lucas smiled. "Is there a reason for this?"
"I watched Anthony over the last days. He is an remarkable guy. It had me thinking about what he is trying to do in his personal and professional life and how lucky I am to have you as my husband and lover."
Robert looked and smiled at Lucas. "I want to show you how lucky I feel." Robert quickly undressed himself. He made Lucas lie down on his back and Robert went between Lucas' legs. Many minutes later, Robert watched Lucas explode as his cum came in arcs over his stomach and chest. In two pushes in and out, Robert pushed hard, held his breath as he came hard and fast. When he finished, he lay on top of Lucas chest and stomach and he kissed him.
The next days went as they had expected. Anthony was ready. They were fairly certain that Thomas would hire him. They left the city just after one on Wednesday and arrived at Thomas' office by 4:15. They explained to Thomas what they had done and Thomas asked Anthony many questions. Finally, Robert and Lucas left the office and went back to see Liam who was getting supper ready.
It was a very happy guy who arrived with Thomas. Anthony could not stop thanking everyone. He was going back to Rochester to hand in his resignation. He would have to finish some cases and he would consult with his boss and with Thomas when he would come to Buffalo. Lucas reminded him that he could contact him by email or telephone if he had any questions about a case using Forensic+.
Robert and Lucas decided that they would leave for home after supper. They promised Thomas and Liam that they would contact them soon about the trip to Paris in May. It was clear that Thomas and Liam were excited about the trip. They had read some of the guide books that Robert and Lucas had given them.
The next weeks went by quckly. Robert managed to get a new version of Forensic+ and ForensicPlus out to their customers. Lucas had several really interesting cases and he began to organize his thought on the cases. He could see some really good additions to their software.
They phoned Thomas and Liam several time; they were very excited. Robert and Lucas had decided to leave on a flight that left on Friday morning and they would arrive in Paris late in the day on Friday evening. Thomas and Lucas would arrive in the late afternoon or early evening on Saturday. Robert and Lucas had brought quite a lot of equipment for their prestentton on the next Friday.
As before, they had rented a car at the aeroport and they had put all the equipment in the car and then in their apartment. After their arrival, they put the car in the parking garage and they would just pay for a weeks parking. They walked around their area and found a new food stall that was selling really interesting food. They ordered and then talked to some of the customers waiting for their food. As usual, Robert immediately started speaking Parisian French. It was obvious that Lucas had started to pick up the accent that he heard from Robert and the people around him. There were still traces of his Anglophone pronuncaiton but few people noticed that. They took their food back to the apartment and breathed a sigh of relief. It had been a long day and they were feeling the jet lag. They ate, went to bed and fell asleep almost immediately.
When they woke the next morning, Lucas could feel the strong arms around him and the hard object touching his butt. He turned his head to see the bright eyes of his lover. Lucas smiled. "Amazing, we missed last night. The Buffalo crew won't be here unitl later this afternoon. Any suggestions?"
Robert smiled. "OK, this butt is mine this morning." He ran his hands over it and Lucas shivered. He pushed Lucas onto his stomach and lay on top of him. He kissed his back and neck and the told him to turn his head. With a smile, he kissed him for a long time. Robert reached over and grabbed the lube. Seconds later, Lucas started to moan as Robert entered him. They edged several times. Finally, Robert came out and moved Lucas onto his back and quickly entered him again. A minute later, they both moaned. Robert took two more strokes and then called out Lucas name. Lucas stroked himself fast and hard and he called out Robert's name as he start to cum on his chest and then down his stomach.. There were tears in both their eyes as they kissed again.
It was Robert who looked at Lucas. "I never know why it is so incredible how we react to each other in Paris. Tonight we can be little quieter but I am yours to take and love."
They cleaned up and went to one of their favourite cafes for breakfast. They entered the cafe and they were met with a welcome back. "It is so good to see you." They talked for a few minutes and ordered. The owner looked a Lucas. "You are sounding like one of us. I can still hear that you are an English speaker but your accent is now much more Parisian. It is so good to see you both again."
Lucas looked at him. In French, "Tomorrow will be a bit different. We have some American friends who are staying with us for the week. They don't speak French but they do speak Spanish if that helps. They are great guys and they are so looking forward to being in Paris."
"I am not too fond of Americans but if they are your friends, that is good enough for us."
Breakfast was great and they wandered around the Fifth buying things that they could prepare in the apartment. Tonight they would take them to the take away stand that they had found yesterday evening. It was something they always did with guests and friends to introduce them to Paris and their area in the Fifth."
The door bell rang just after 18 hours. Robert laughed as he looked at Thomas and Liam. They looked as if they had been in a battle. Their clothes were wrinkled. They looked exhausted and disoriented.
Thomas saw their looks and he finally laughed. "Our plane was late and we just made our connection in New Jersey; we had to run to the gate. We went through storm clouds with rough weather and had to stay in our seats for hours. Then, customs at the airport. We eventually had a person come and speak English to us. Then the taxi driver. I am not sure where he was from but he could barely speak French and no English. I finally pulled out your address and showed it to him. He wasn't sure of where your address was. I muttered in the Fifth. The driver threw up his hands. I finally showed him with my hands pointing and speaking French, un, deux, trois, quatre, CINQ. He said oh the cinqieme and I said OUI. OK, we made it. So good to see you." He almost collapse on the couch.
Hugs all around. Lucas looked at them. "Why don't you take a shower and relax. We have beer and wine and some brandy. We were planning on taking you out to one of the quick serve street restaurants. You buy what you want and we can bring it back here. We found a really good one yesterday evening. It is a great way to see Paris for the first time."
An hour later, Thomas and Liam were refreshed and ready to see the area. They walked through the small streets after they crossed over the Blvd Saint Michel. Finally, they were in line for food. As they got closer, Robert and Lucas explained what they could have to eat. Robert and Lucas spoke in quick French for their order. Liam looked at them and then at the man taking the orders. He asked in Spanish if he spoke Spanish. The reply was si Senor. Liam looked at Thomas and asked him what he would like. In fast Spanish, Liam ordered for both of them.
Robert and Lucas looked at Liam and in English said, "Well done, you have really improved your spoken Spanish."
The man taking the orders looked at them. In accented English. "What language do you guys speak."
Robert looked at the guy. In French, "Myself and this guy, pointing at Lucas, speak English and French. The other two speak English and Spanish."
Their order came up and the guy said in French and then Spanish. "Enjoy your meal."
Liam looked at them. "What a great start to our time here. The food looks and smells great."
Lucas looked at them. "Let's go back to the apartment. Don't forget that we have beer, wine and brandy. If you are up to it after we eat, we could go back out and walk around the area. It really is a great location to live in."
They enjoyed their supper and the walk around the area. They took them down to the area where the Rue Monge and the Blvd Saint Germain meet. There were some shops open with bread, cheese, cooked meat and almost any kind of food and drink that you would want.
Finally, Thomas looked at them. "This has been a wonderful introduction to Paris. I feel so much better than our arrival but I am exhaused and think that Liam is going to have to be carried home if we don't go back now."
Shortly after that, they arrived back at the apartment and Liam and Thomas went to bed. Robert looked at Lucas. "I let you know this morning that I was available this evening if you were interested."
Lucas just smiled. "Oh, I never forget that kind of a promise."
It was a quiet, joyous romp as soon as they were in bed.
Thomas and Liam really wanted to go on the Metro and get in line early for the Musee d'Orsay and the Impressionist gallery. They enjoyed the Metro and then trasferred to the RER line that would let them off at the Musee d'Orsay. They arrived at 9:05 and were quite close to the entrance. The guys suggested that when the museum opened at 9:30 that they move quickly to get to gallery before it was inundated with people. Both Thomas and Liam could not stop talking about the beautiful work of the late 19th and early 20th century artists. In fact, they walked back through the gallery to stop and look at some of their favourites.
Robert and Lucas took them over the bridge to the Tuileries Garden and then the Place de la Concorde. They took a quick look inside the the Eglise de la Madeleine which the guys had never gone in before. Thomas and Liam could not stop talking about their visits to all the department stores on the Blvd Haussmann. They spent the afternoon wandering around the stores at Le Centre Commercial Saint Lazare. They took the metro back to the apartment. They were all exhausted.
Liam looked at them. "I need a rest. Do you have anything planned for supper?"
"There is a realy good restaurant that we go to every time we are in Paris. We know the owner and the staff. Never had a bad meal there. I have their telephone number; I can reserve a table for 20 hours."
The owner answered the call and he was obviously very pleased to hold the table for them. Robert explained that he would be bringing American friends who could not speak French but they could speak Spanish.
They rested and arrived right at 20 hours. Their welcome by the staff and owner was beyond what they had expected. The Maitre d' seated them and then gave them menus in French and Spanish. It was a wonderful way for Liam and Thomas to feel that they were in a totally different country. Liam and Thomas were surprised by how well the guys were known and appreciated by the staff. Robert told Thomas and Liam thaat they had been coming here for years and had built up a very good rapport with the staff and owner.
After the meal they wandered around some different areas of the Fifth and arrived back home ready for relaxing and bed.
It was Liam who spoke up. "We have only been here for two days and you are correct, it has been magical."
"Well there is more to come. We are invited to Antoine and Maria's home here in the Fifth. They speak English. They have invited us for Tuesday evening. You will like them. Tomorow, I would suggest that we should take you over to the wine shop that we talk about all the time." He looked at them. "Yes, it does exist. We were in the shop in January and March. I think that the owner speaks Spanish; you might enjoy that."
In the morning after breakfast, they went over to the wine shop and were greeted with enthusiasm by the owner. When he heard Liam and Thomas speak Spanish to each other, the owner smiled. In Spanish, "I see that you speak Spanish. It is not often that I have Americans in my shop. It is a pleasure to hear you as Americans speak another language. My English is passable but I do speak Spanish fluently."
They spent a fair amount of time buying wine for dinner with Antoine and Maria and then stocking the apartment with very good, interesting wines for themselves.
They had a quick lunch and Thomas and Liam wanted to see the Louvre. They spent the afternoon at the Louve and saw all the most famous sculpures and paintings. Thomas loved the late Eroupean Gothic period and Liam was fascinated by the early Renaissance period.
They had a delightful evening with Antoine and Anne. It turned out that Antoine and Anne had both taken some courses in English to improve their pronunciation and to expand their words. It turned out to be a great evening for all of them.
Over the next couple of days they went to the Eiffel tower, the Invalide, the Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysees and just wandered back to their apartment walking along the Blvd Saint Germain stopping at some of the coffee shops and the well known bars.
On Thursday evening, Robert and Lucas had all their equipment set out for their presentation the next day. Liam and Thomas walked around their area and brought food from the place they had gone to their first night in Paris.
The presentation went very well. Thomas and Lucas had volunteered to run the slide show and once again were amazed by the way their friends became high powered, young executives.
On Saturday they went to the Bois de Boulogne They ended up sitting close to where Robert and Lucas had sat on their first trip to Paris as partners. They sat and just relaxed on a wonderful warm Saturday in Paris. Thomas was almost in tears as the he and Liam had their arms around each other. Thomas looked at them. As he wiped his eyes, he chuckled. "I still have that memory of the first time that you entered my office. It has turned out to be a such wonderful relationship with you and your extended family and I do have my father back."
They went that night to their favourite, expensive restaurent just in St. Germain des Pres. Before they left, Lucas was very firm that this was his and Robert's treat. He looked at them. "Guys, we have a huge base of Forensic+ and ForensicPlus. We have put away a lot of money in investments. Robbies company is doing incredibly well and I am head of a department in one of the largest accounting firms in the city. We really want you to see this part of Paris. Robert's dads taught us well. We really want to do this." Thomas and Liam realized quickly how Robert and Lucas really wanted to do this for them.
According to Liam, the restaurant had served the finest meal that they had ever had. They couldn't stop talking about the wonderful evening. Thomas looked at Robert and Lucas. "We can't thank you enough for the wonderful time in Paris."
They had late evening flights on Sunday so they walked down to Notre Dame Cathedral. The guys entered the church and sat in the area for people who wanted to partake in the mass. The guys could not stop talking about the magnificent church and the stained glass windows. It turned out to be one of the high lights of their trip.
There were hugs at the aeroport as each couple was taking a different airline to arrive back home. There were promises of getting together in the very near future.
Note I decided that the guys would go to Notre Dame before the fire in 2019. I do not usually assign time periods and recent events in my stories.
David Preecher (My personal reaction to Notre Dame) I am not religeous but I was in Paris in June, 2016 and I went on Sunday to the morning mass in Notre Dame. It was one of the most memorable things that I did in Paris that year. I was able to sit, partake of the mass, look at the magnificent columns and stained glass windows and just remind myself of my Western heritage. I stayed until the organ finished at the end of the mass. It was a truly wonderful experience.
Epilogue
In the month after their trip to Paris with Thomas and Liam, Robert and Lucas felt unsettled. One night they looked at each other. Robert laughed. "OK, we are both thinking of something. For me, I am thinking about buying a house."
Lucas just shook his head. "How is it that we are so often thinking the same thing?"
"We know each other so well. I am also thinking of having a third person in our home when we buy a house." Lucas just smiled. They were on the same page as usual.
They spent a month looking for a house. Of course, the two of them had lists of what they wanted in their house. They finally found one and bought it.
A month after they moved in, they arranged a meeting with the priest in their church asking him if he knew of a young woman who was pregnant and she and her boyfriend wanted the child to be adopted. After a few weeks, the priest contacted them. He had found a couple. The young couple were in their first year of university and couldn't manage a child and neither wanted an abortion. The young lady was four months along. So five months later, the guys waited for the birth of their son and then took him home. Joshua, Carl, Jeremy, Timothy Stevenson-Malenfant became the centre of their life. They knew that there would be sleepless nights but of course that would change as he grew up. As they had hoped, Anna and Michael's Marcus was born 5 months earlier but as luck would have it, they would be in the same school and in the same grade.
Both Robert and Lucas worked hard. Lucas remainded as Head of the Forensic Section but he had been given shares by Jeremy and he had bought some shares in The Accountants when some of the original members retired and sold their shares. Robert's firm grew into a very large firm that had many customers using their services. Forensic+ and ForensicPlus were the only reliable software on the market. Robert and Lucas would become very rich men.
One of their sadest days was the day that Momma died. She was living in a retirment home and she had taken sick and was diagnosed with pneumonia. She seemed to be reacting well to the antibiotics. The guys had phoned Thomas and Liam and they came up to Canada on the Saturday. They had formed a strong attachment to Momma. She often said that they were her grandsons along with Robert and Lucas. They enjoyed their visit and they went back to Robert and Lucas' home. Later that evening, they had a call from the dads telling them to get to hospital now. The managed to get a babysiter. All four went to the hospital and were holding Momma's hands when she past away. Liam had to go back to work but he and Thomas came up for the serrvice.
Joshua became a wonderful young son. They knew that when Joshua started to speak, Lucas would speak English to him and Robert would speak French to him. By age three, Joshua would be totally bilingual. They realized early on that he was bright and loved learning new things.
On an evening after Joshua went to bed, the guys sat down with some wine. They were talking about their life together. They talked about their life after meeting each other on that day in August so long ago. They laughed about that first kiss at the Chalet. Then they remenbered highlights of their university days and being co-captains of the university hockey team. They were now well known business men in North America and Europe. It was a wonderful evening of remebering.
Finally, Robert looked at Lucas and patted the seat beside him. Lucas stood up and sat close to Robert. They looked at each other, put their arms around each other and kissed. Lucas smiled at Robert with a bit of a smirk. "I guess that we have unfinished business!"
Lucas stood up and pulled Robert up and they were in each other's arms. They smiled at each other as they turned and went to their bedroom. Robert looked at Lucas. "Lover, never finished!"

If you liked this story, you might want to read the others that I have published on Nifty. In particular, my first story, Unexpected Change which had many positive comments and as has one of my other favourites, What a Difference a Year Makes. I have recently reread Introspection and it is worth a read. Michael Burtchell's story is in Discoveries; its ending is a little weak but getting there is fun.
