Unconditional Love, chapter 2
October 8, 2000
"Guys I think we ate too much" I said looking at all of the empty dishes around our table.
"Well you said that you were paying" laughed Justin.
"This was good food, I wish we had a Bob Evan's closer to our home"
"Yeah but you get tired of it fast when it is the only place to eat" Trevor said.
"Well I need to go to the bathroom before we leave" I said, giving Trevor the look that he needed to go with me.
"I do to" Trevor added.
In the restroom...
"Ok what all did you and Justin chat about"
"Not much, just that I thought he was cute and that you thought James was hotttt"
"Great job Trev, now he probably thinks I want to fuck his brains out."
"Mark there is something else you should know. He told Justin about this man he ran into at the airport about 5 years ago, he told Justin that that was the day he fell in love for the first time"
"Why were you discussing this with a complete stranger?"
"First off, I did not believe that I was chatting with the real Justin until today...
"You had to know something was up if Justin told you about James meeting a guy in an airport 5 years ago, the same time in history I told you I met James in an airport."
"You know I am a little slow, the 2 stories did not connect in my head until I saw all of us together today."
"So let me see if I got this straight, James tells Justin that he fell in love with a guy he ran into at the airport 5 years ago, and you told Justin that I fell in love with James when I ran onto him in the airport. So that means that you need to find out how much Justin has told James."
We washed our hands (Trevor managed to splash himself with water) then headed back out.
Meantime at the table...
"Ok Justin time to spill your guts, what have you told Trevor?"
"More than I should have."
"How much more?"
"Lance just remember, I thought he would never believe that I was the real Justin. He knows most of our secrets...
"I do not fucking believe you, what happens in the band was suppose to stay in the band...
"As if you have never told anyone our secrets. So he knows that 3 members of Nsync play for the other team, we can trust them, I just know we can"
"So you told him about JC and Jason?"
"Among other things."
"Did you tell him my feelings for Mark?"
"I told him that you fell in love with a guy you ran into at the airport, how was I suppose to know that the guy was his boss? Lance, you should know that Trevor told me his boss always had a crush on you. I can not believe that neither Trevor or myself figured it out that you and Mark knew each other."
"Trevor it works easier if you unzip your pants before you piss" I laughingly say as we approach the table.
"Justin, you can come with me in my car, I can show you some of the hot sites around town" Trevor said as he pulled on Justin's jacket.
"I guess you are stuck with me as tour guide Mr. Bass" I say as James and I hopped into my truck.
I took James to all of the local tourist sites...all 3 of them. I showed him the Homestead, Cora's Mill (if you are ever in the area and it snows this is the place to see), and Memorial Park (the park is dedicated to those who died in the Silver Bridge Disaster). I decided to take him up in Mount Hill Cemetery. From the top of the cemetery you can see the entire area.
"Wow, this is breath taking" James says as he looks out into the horizon.
"I know, I use to come up here with my mom during the spring floods, this way we could see just how much damage had been done" I say trying not to cry (every time I think of her, I want to cry).
"She was really special to you, wasn't she?"
"More than anyone knows. Well we need to get home."
As we start across the ridge at the top of the cemetery I notice Trevor's car sitting at the other end. It was rockin' and the windows were all steamed up.
"Well it looks like Trevor is having some hot and wild monkey sex," I say showing James the car.
"Oh, I can not wait to start the jokes about this one with the guys, poor Justin they will not let up on him" James said as he was laughing.
We got home and put Justin's luggage in the living room next to the couch (hoping he would catch on to the sleeping arrangements). I put a blanket and pillow on the couch for him. I said goodnight to James and off to bed I went. I was awaked by a laughing James bright and early in the morning.
"This better be good, waking me up from my much needed beauty rest"
"Oh it is, it is, just trust me it is"
"Ok what is it?"
"Just go to the living room and see for yourself"
As I entered the living room, I saw the funniest site. On my couch you had Justin lying on his side with Trevor tight up against him, face-to-face, sound asleep, with little Pixie asleep at their feet. This was the perfect Kodak moment. I quickly got my camera and snapped a few pics. Then James woke the sleeping couple.
"Broyhill sofa sleeper $800, 1 long haired miniature wiener dog $500, the look on Justin's face when woken up, priceless" I say as I roll n the floor laughing.
Pixie just looks at everyone and crawls up Justin's body and starts licking him and Trevor. I finally managed to pull myself together and make breakfast. I made a big country breakfast for James, Trevor, and myself and the proceeded to pour Justin a bowl of cereal.
"Come and get it, while it is hot" I shouted into the living room.
"Sure does smell good" James commented as he sat down.
Justin sat down and looked around the table, "Mark do not believe everything you read about me" he said as he switched his bowl and my plate.
After breakfast, Trevor left for work and we started showering. Then we had to start the big task ahead of us, packing.
"Ok James you can take the living and dining rooms to pack, Justin you can have the guest room and study, and I will take the kitchen and my room" I said sounding like a drill sergeant.
"Sir, yes sir" they said as they departed.
I started packing things up; I was going slower than the guys were because I would stop to reminisce about things as I packed. I was wiping a tear away, when I heard Justin yell for Lance.
"Lance come here quick" Justin shrieked.
"What's going on?" I asked as I stumbled into the study.
They had found my stash of boy-band memorabilia from my younger days. They were laughing at my posters of Wham, Menudo, NKOTB, and of course Color Me Bad. My face turned fire engine red. I had to say something smart.
"Yeah, I use to list to boy-bands back when they knew how to sing"
"And you wonder how your mom knew you were gay" James interjected.
"Hey, I can not help it that I was a late bloomer to the new boy-band era, with all those young country singer in those tight Rustlers. Damn I am hot. Now, anyone want an ice tea?" I asked as I left the room. I now knew I was open game to endless jokes and that I would have to come up with some ammo to use on them.
We packed for 3 days. On Wednesday afternoon Matt called to tell me that Jan was having some problems with her labor. Since we were finished, we decided that we would shower and head to the hospital. We arrived after visiting hours, so we had to sneak in, which was a blessing seeing that 2 of us were locals who did not want to be spotted with 2 international pop stars (or was it the opposite). We waited in the waiting room with some of Matt and Jan's family. Jan had kicked everyone out of her room except for the moms and Matt, but when she heard that I had arrived she insisted I at least come in long enough to say hi.
"I hear that Sarah is not ready to join us." I said to the drugged up lady on the bed.
"Well she had better be, cause I am ready to get my figure back" she lazily said.
Matt and I left the room and sat in the hallway. After a few minutes I decided to speak.
"Matt I just wanted to tell you that I love you and Jan, and that I would like to thank you for letting me be here for this special moment"
"Mark we love you and will miss you when you leave"
"I just can not believe that the young immature Matt I met 4 years ago is now married and will soon be a daddy"
"Where is James at?"
"I left Justin and him in the waiting room with Trevor and your dad"
"So now you know 2 of them?"
As I started to answer Jan's mom came out of her room.
"They are going to do a c-section in about 10 minutes" she informed us.
"Well I will go to the waiting room then" I said as I got up.
"Mark, they said we could go around to the nursery, as soon as they pull the baby out they will take her there"
"Is it ok if I get everyone from the waiting room then?" I politely asked.
"I do not see why not"
We waited patiently next to the nursery windows. After about 15 minutes Matt appeared holding his baby. I have never seen anyone so proud as he.
"I want that someday," I mumbled under my breath.
"So do I" James said to me as he wiped a tear from his eye.
After another hour waiting they decided to let us in to see Jan and Sarah. As we entered the room I saw Matt sitting in a chair holding Sarah out in his lap. He leaned forward and kissed her on the forehead. I turned to James and Justin and looked at them with my pound puppy eyes.
"Mark you do not need to ask, we would be more than happy to" Justin said.
As Justin finished talking James started humming the opening of "God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You" and Justin started singing.
Can this be true, can this be real How can I put into words what I feel My life is complete, I thought I was whole Why do I feel like I'm loosing control In all of creation, all things great and small You are the one that surpasses them all More precious than any diamond or pearl They broke the mold when you came into this world And I'm trying hard to figure out Just how I ever did without The warmth of your smile, the heart of a child And deep inside, it leaves me purified Your love is like a river, peaceful and deep Your soul is like a secret, that I never could keep When I look into your eyes, I know that it's true God must have spent a little more time on you Never thought that love could feel like this You changed my world with just one kiss How can it be, that right here with me There's an angel, it's a miracle Your love is like a river, peaceful and deep Your soul is like a secret, that I never could keep When I look into your eyes, I know that it's true God must of have spent a little more time on you God must of have spent a little more time on you
As Justin and James finished I looked around the room, it was no longer a secret as to who my friends were. I looked towards the door and saw about a half dozen or so hospital staff standing there. Matt handed Sarah to me, then turned and hugged both James and Justin. I felt at the moment the happiest since my mom died.
"Mark, I think people will now know your friends identity" Matt said.
"Yeah, and there are to many to bribe this time," James said with a slight chuckle.
"Guys let me talk to the staff, I know most of them, maybe something can be arranged," I said as I handed Sarah over to one of her Grandmas. I then left to talk to the staff.
"Guys that was wonderful, you should think about doing it professionally" Jan said as everyone realized she had awakened.
"Well, Mark to the rescue again, here is the deal. They will remain silent until Saturday, if you autograph some CD's for the kids in the children's ward" I announced as I returned.
"Sounds cool to me, how about you Lance?" Justin inquired.
"It's ok with me" James quickly added.
With that we left the hospital. It was now around 3 a.m. on Thursday and the heavy work of moving still awaited us. We got home and immediately headed to our beds. We still stuck Justin and Trevor on the couch. The next morning we had to go and get breakfast since everything was packed. I decided to drag Justin's ass to town. I was dying to interrogate him.
"Justin what are your intentions towards Trevor?"
"I do not know, I like him a lot, we already know everything about each other?"
"Do you love him or is it about the sex?"
"I think it is love, but I have never been in love before, so I do not know what I am feeling."
"Do you feel empty when you are not with him, and do you smile everytime you see him?"
"Yes and yes"
"Then Justin you are in love, and guess what I love him to"
"What?"
"I love him as a brother, actually more like a son, and you better not hurt him."
"God you are as over protective as Trevor said you were"
"In this small of a community you need to be over protective, I do not want him to be the next Matt Shepard"
"Mark, I promise with all my heart that I will never intentionally hurt him"
"I believe you, now what should we get everyone to eat?"
After breakfast we loaded our first of three loads that day. As we unloaded the third load Kristen's school bus pulled up. She walked pass me saying hi and kept on walking.
"Hi Lance, hi Justin" she said as she skipped into the garage.
"1, 2, 3..." I started to count on my fingers.
"Oh my god, I just said "Hi" to Justin Timberlake," she said as she turned around facing us.
"Calm down, Kristen isn't it, I am just a person" Justin said as he squatted to look her in the eyes.
"I know ... it's just that ... Lance and now you. God I take it back, Justin you are way cuter than Nick Lachey," she said looking up at the sky.
"Well I do not know about that," I stated.
"Ha ha, well I am on strike now," Justin pouted.
About this time Holly pulled in with Jason. She begged us to stay for dinner. We agreed to as long as she let us help. Justin asked her if Trevor could come down. She agreed but gave me that 'we need to talk look'. So about 7 that night we started cooking.
"Mom are you going to let Uncle Sparky grill," Jason inquired.
"Probably, as long as we do not get a repeat performance of his last cookout" she said.
"Ok, I feel as if I am missing something, why does everyone call Mark, Uncle Sparky?" James asked.
"Lets just say that Mark, propane, and matches are a very bad combination" Jason laughingly stated.
"Yeah, and while you are at it Jason, leave out the fact you left the grill on way too long before I lit the match" I said in my defense.
The night was just what we needed after working hard all day. We sat on the deck enjoying the crisp autumn air. We finally departed after agreeing to eat dinner there on Friday night. The next day flew by, and before we knew it we were flipping hamburgers again.
"So what are you guys going to do while Mark is visiting family next week?" Holly asked.
"I am going to stay in a hotel and see some local sites" Justin replied.
"I am going to go with him, from what I hear it's god's country up there" James stated.
"That it is James, but you have not met our Aunt Sis, she will interrogate you, I use to think she worked for the FBI" I started to say as Holly interrupted me.
"...and she will think you are a couple, she has always tried to play matchmaker for Markydoodle"
"Holly, you know the only person who can call me that was mom. Guys it's time to go before the stories of my childhood start"
"Justin, you do not need to stay at a hotel, you can stay here, we can leave you a car so you can get around." Holly's husband Brian said.
"I could stay here a few nights, but I have already committed myself for a few" Justin said as he looked into Trevor's sapphire eyes.
"Marshall, Jason, Kristen you all can go home with us and help us finish up in the morning and..." and before I could finish.
"OK"
"GREAT"
"YES"
"Well that's settled, Jason and Kristen can ride with me and James, Trevor and Justin with Marshall"
"Aye, aye captain" I heard someone mumble, followed by "is he always this bossy".
"Yes"
"Trevor, you will pay"
"Oops I did it again, I picked on Marky, now I have to pay the price"
The ride home was fun. Jason and James talked about going clubbing on Saturday. Jason also started question James about being famous. I knew that James would be in trouble, because once Jason starts questioning you, he never lets up. He asked James which celebrity star struck him the most, to which James replied Garth Brooks. We stopped at the local dairy bar and got ice cream for everyone. As we pulled out we noticed Marshall's car go whizzing by. James made some comment about not letting them beat us home, so I picked up speed. As I was passing Marshall, I noticed the red and blue lights flashing behind me. I slowed and pulled over to the side. I tried to play innocent as the cop approached.
"I am sorry officer, was I speeding?" I said in a low child like voice. I noticed that this trooper looked very young (barely old enough to reach puberty, let alone be a trooper) so I decided I might have to play the Lance card to get out of this ticket.
"Mr. Myers, I call doing 83 in a 55 speeding" he said as he leaned into the truck to see all the occupants, "I could arrest you for wreck-less driving."
"Please don't arrest me, Officer Nate Lowe is it? I was just trying to get my friend here home, he is not feeling to well"
Officer Lowe shined his light on James (quickly caught on to what I was trying to accomplish), "do I know you?" he asked.
"You might, I am James Bass of Nsync"
"I thought so," Officer Lowe said with a dreamy look in his eye.
"Well are you going to arrest me or not?"
After thinking for a minute Officer Lowe spoke. "No, if I can have an autograph from Lance."
I reached into my console and pulled out my own "No Strings Attached" CD for Lance to sign. Once that was done we were on our way. We pulled up to my house to see the guys sitting on the front stoop. They were laughing and pointing at me. Little did they know I got out of yet another ticket.
Trevor was the first to speak "So how much is it going to cost you?"
"What are you talking about?" I ask very innocently.
"How much was your ticket, that was you that was pulled over, wasn't it?" Justin asked.
"Yes I was pulled over, but I got no ticket, just a warning"
"But you had to be doing at least 80 Uncle Sparky"
"83 to be exact" Kristen chimed in.
"How did you get out of a ticket?" Trevor demanded (he was a little upset by this, he had received 2 tickets this week).
I leaned in close and whispered "Gaydar, my dear Trevor, if you were to turn yours on, maybe you could get out of a few tickets."
As his face started to turn red from embarrassment he shrieked "OH MY GOD, everyone Mark had to put out, to get out of the ticket."
"I did not, it was Lance who put out (I paused for a moment) an autographed CD to get me out of the ticket" I stated.
After the laughter subsided we headed indoors for some hot apple cider. We had to decide the sleeping arrangements. The only furniture left was the 2 sets of box springs and mattresses and the fold out couch, all of which was in the living room. We decided to put Jason, Kristen and Marshall on the fold out. Since the kids knew Trevor and I were gay we decided to share one bed and let James and Justin have the other. About half way into the night I felt Trevor's arms wrap around me, I thought what the hell, it felt good so I let him be. Not 10 minutes later I felt something poking me. I draw the line at cuddling, there is no way in hell that I am going to let him hump me.
"Trevor stop it" I whispered over my shoulder, but he continued to hump me.
"Trevor stop it now" I demanded getting a little bit louder and by the way it felt like little Trevor was free from the his boxers.
"Stop what?" I heard Trevor say from across the room as I felt a warm liquid hit my ass.
I jumped up and turned on the light. I saw Trevor was now with Justin in his bed, so I slowly turned to see James (on my bed) rubbing his eyes with a confused look on his face.
"Jason, take Kristen to the back bedroom" I shouted as I stormed off to the bathroom.
"Lance, what the hell is going on?" Justin yelled.
"I was dreaming, the next thing I knew Mark was screaming at Trevor to stop and he turned the light on," James stated.
"Lance weren't you in bed with Justin when we went to sleep last night?" Marshall asked?
"Yes, but Trevor wanted to sleep with Justin so we switched after everyone was asleep."
"Oh, OH!!!" Marshall said as he realized what James just said.
"So what kind of dream were you having?" Trevor asked.
"..Ummm. it was ..umm. well umm.. a wet one, is that what you wanted to hear, that sleeping with Mark made me have a wet dream" James said as he started to weep. "God what have I done."
"James you did nothing wrong, now go clean yourself up." I said as I crawled back into bed.
As James left, I turned to the guys, " not a word of this gets out or I will personally nail your balls to a fence post and push you over, am I understood"
"Jason, Kristen you can come back in now" I shouted towards the rear of the house.
In a few minutes James returned and crawled back into bed with me.
"Mark, I am really sorry"
"You have nothing to be sorry for, besides I rather enjoyed it"
The next morning we headed to town for breakfast. Being my last day in town we decide to eat at Bob's again, so that I could say bye to everyone (Bob's is always packed on weekend mornings with the local people). The guys donned hats and fake glasses, but could have been spotted by a real fan. I saw many people I knew, said many goodbyes. As we were paying for our meals, I noticed Andrea (use to work for me) coming in with her girlfriend. I knew now that if anyone was to recognize the guys it would be Andrea, their number 1 fan.
"Hello Andrea"
"Hi, Mark, Trevor" Andrea said as she kissed us on our cheeks, and the looked at Justin "and you are, Oh My God"
She said that loud enough to wake the dead. I heard plates fall as people turned to see what was happening. The scene before me was utter chaos. Andrea was lying on the floor, people were rushing towards us. I could hear people say "look isn't that Lance and Justin". A crowd of people were cramming into the entrance of the restaurant. I turned to the guys, they had a look of complete horror on their faces.
Tossing my keys to James, " here take these and go to my house, we will meet up with you there in a little while."
I turned back to Andrea who was starting to come to. Everyone rushed to us.
"Was that who I thought it was?"
"Mark, how do you know Nsync?"
"Can you get me an autograph?"
I heard a million questions at once. I helped Andrea get up and promised to get her an autograph. I rushed out the door with Trevor and the kids. We headed straight towards home. I knew we had to hurry. When we got there Justin and James were already loading the truck. We went as fast as possible but the radio had already announced that Lance and Justin were in town. As we were tying the load down I saw a car coming up the driveway.
"Guys, let's go, we have company arriving," I said pointing towards the approaching car.
With that I locked the front door on my house and jumped into the passenger side of my truck. Not exactly the way I planned on leaving. I never said goodbye to any of my neighbors or to my dad. I had planned on cleaning the house, now the real estate agent will. As we pulled onto the highway, a tear slipped from my eye.
"Sad leaving your home isn't it?" James asked as he squeezed my leg.
"Yeah it is, this was my first home. I remember how proud I felt buying my first home at the age of 22. How happy my mom was for me when I first showed it to her. I can remember exactly where I was standing when I got the news she died." now I was sobbing uncontrollably. "The tornado that I thought was going to kill me. Bringing Pixie into the house the first time." "Pixie, please tell me Marshall has her."
"He does"
We arrived at Holly's a little before noon. We quickly had everything unloaded into the garage. Holly arrived looking a little flustered. She had heard on the noon news about the incident at the restaurant and was concerned for her kids. She now was a little apprehensive to let Jason and Marshall go to the Wild Dawg tonight. Justin went to use the phone and he returned beaming from ear to ear.
"Holly, I can personally vouch for their safety tonight." Justin announced.
"How?"
"Let's just say 350#'s, 6'6" and as mean as hell."
"Lonnie?" James asked.
"The one and only" Justin answered, "he is my bodyguard, he will be arriving at 9, he will meet us at the club."
"Ok, they can go." Holly said.
Now the fun began, we had about 4 hours to get 6 people ready. With four of us being gay I knew this would be a problem. Jason, James and I took Kristen's room and bathroom leaving the other to use Marshall's room and bathroom to get ready. James was in the shower, Jason was ironing his clothes, and I was shaving.
"Mark, can you hand me some shampoo"
My heart was climbing into my throat, "Yeah." I picked up the bottle and turned towards the shower, "here you go" I said sticking my hand into the shower.
"Did you see anything?" Jason asked as I emerged from the bathroom.
"No, you little perv, and for the record I was not looking."
Just then James came out wearing only a towel. I went in to shower. After a few minutes I heard Jason shaving. Jason walked over to the shower curtain and started whispering to me.
"Uncle Mark, now remember I am not gay, but I just saw Lance's thingy, and let me say if mine was that size I would be the happiest guy at school."
"Really" I asked, sticking my head out of the shower.
"You perv." he laughed.
Well the 3 of us finish way ahead of the others, Marshall soon came down the stairs laughing. When asked where Justin and Trevor were, he replied 'in the shower... together'. Well there was no better way of easing everyone's suspicious minds. So now we were 3 down and one more to come out of the proverbial closet. Finally they came down the stairs to a standing ovation. With that we took off in Holly's van. Since word had gotten out about them, we decided not to stop and eat. When we got to the club we noticed Lonnie waiting outside. After a quick introduction we headed for the door. We were turned away until they realized who we were with, then we got the red carpet treatment. Now let me clue you in on this club. It has two dance floors, one for country and one for pop and lite rock. It also has 2 bars, plus barrels of beer all around. James and I head for the country side while the others headed towards the rock.
"Wanna dance" I asked James.
"Yeah like two guys could dance in here."
"Line dance, you idiot"
"Ok, then smartass"
We enjoyed several dances before stopping for our first drinks. I had my usual, long island ice tea, and James ordered a rum and coke. Lance was asked for a few autographs, which he graciously signed. We decided to check out the other dance floor. As we entered that side we saw Justin and Trevor on the dance floor trying to show each other up. Lonnie was standing by Marshall and Jason, watching with everyone else, his employer trying to keep up with his red headed boyfriend. After a few minutes Justin stopped completely out of breath. As Justin and Trevor approached us they were holding their sides laughing.
"What's so funny?" I asked.
"Oh, I think we just found a replacement for Lance."
"OUCH" teased Jason.
"Well he may dance good, but can he sing?" James inquired.
"Nope" I replied "and Joey's red hair is enough"
"Well he sure can move" Justin added.
"Too much info" Lonnie said breaking the stoic look on his face.
Marshall and Jason found themselves being overtaken by girls from their school. They were bumping and grinding with a different girl every time we saw them. The guys were asked for a few autographs, but were left relatively alone. James and myself enjoyed several more rounds, rubbing it in that we were old enough to drink. All of us found ourselves back on the country side of the club. We even got Lonnie to line dance with us. Now that was a sight, 350#'s 6'6" black man dancing with all of us gay men. After a few more rounds James and myself had a good buzz going. It was getting late and we still had to eat. So we started to round the guys all up. We found Marshall with some girl who looked like she was a ho, Jason was attached to the lips of a 30 year babe (I know I am gay but I still admire beauty) way to go Jason, and then there was Trevor and Justin locked in the last stall in the restroom. Being so late our choices for dinner was Taco Hell (I mean Bell) and the other Taco Bell. So we had Taco Bell. I made it my mission to get Lonnie to laugh a little. We finally got home all safe and sound. After seeing that we made home safely, Lonnie was about to head to a hotel.
"Lonnie, Holly wouldn't mind you stayin here tonight, you did protect her babies after all"
"There are too many people here already," Lonnie said.
"There are plenty of beds, Trevor and Justin could have one, James and myself could have one, Jason and Marshall can take the fold out couch, and since Kristen is at a friends house you can have her room" I explained.
"Ok, as long as I am not putting anyone out" he answered.
We all went directly to bed. The next day would be a long day for James and me.
That's all for chapter 2, next chapter should be out in about a week.
Again I would like to thank JC for his guidance in both this story and in my personal life. Read his story (Jason and JC) it is great.
