Tuesday morning started out much like everyday except I'm operating on about 2 hours sleep. After morning exercises and a three-mile run we went to breakfast. After getting back to the barracks we mustered on the grinder and Capt. Wright addressed us.

"I would like the following 15 trainees to step out - Tommy Tucker, Mike Stevens,....."

I didn't hear anyone else's name after Mike's. We all stepped forward and I noticed that Mark didn't join us.

"I want all of you to know that I've called you out to go to your racks and pack up all your stuff, including your weapons. You will be taking them with you. The rest of you can go to your self- defense training with Mark."

We walked into the barracks and started packing up all our stuff. A thousand questions were going through my mind. None of the answers were good. We knew that we had to hurry as Capt. Wright was waiting for us. My gut told me something bad was going to happen. But my mind told me something different. He'd picked out the best in the company in my opinion. They couldn't be kicking out the best in the company, could they?

In no time we were back on the grinder with everything we owned on our back. Capt. Wright once again addressed us with Sergeant Brooks on his right.

"You have been selected by Sergeant Brooks to move to phase two of your training. This will give us more time to work with the slower recruits and also let you progress at your own pace. Phase two involves on the job training. The uniformed police trainees will be working with regular uniformed police and those of you that are undercover will be working with vice, doing undercover or surveillance work. We had you pack up your stuff because you will not be coming back here. You will report to the Captain of the station I assign you to tomorrow. You will call the Watch Captain today and find out when they need you there tomorrow."

"You all can be very proud of the progress you have made so far. I'm sure all of you will do well. Officer Stevens, recruit Tucker, you have been assigned to the 23rd precinct. Here's your information. You're free to go, and good luck."

We shook his hand and we left. I borrowed Mike's cell phone and called Danny's folks. They hadn't left the campground yet but were fixing to. We told them we'd meet them at the McDonald's just outside the main gate. Mike called the station Watch Captain and got instructions for tomorrow. He seemed to have a puzzled look on his face several times. In the meantime I got us some OJ. Mike hung up.

"The Watch Captain said it's time for us to earn our money. He wants us to report there at 4:00 PM tomorrow. He said we'll be working 2nd shift and probably get done around 2:00 AM."

"Do you know what we'll be doing, Mike?"

"He didn't say but I have a pretty good idea. He told us to dress in new tight fitting blue jeans, tee shirt, with expensive Nikes and a black leather jacket. My guess is we are going to be bait," Mike said with a big grin on his face. "He also said that the station is only two blocks from the train station we ride in on so transportation is convenient. He said if we need to buy some clothes that fit properly, do it today."

"I don't have any clothes like that. I go for the baggy look myself. I think that might work better for me."

"I think you have a good point there, Tommy. Why don't you wear your baggy skateboarding look and bring the other clothes with you. Whoever's in charge might like that look better."

"I'm still not ever sure what we'll be doing, Mike?"

"Neither am I, but my guess is that we'll be posing as male prostitutes."

"Danny's not going to be at all happy with that. Strange old men hitting on me all night."

"I think he'll be fine with it when he finds out that they all go to jail for hitting on you."

"There's more to it than that. I feel like a traitor by entrapping other gay guys. By the grace of God I'm here today and not already out there selling myself in order to get something to eat. I really have mixed feelings about this."

"Street hustling is not a gay thing, Tommy - girls do it too. Look at it this way. Somebody is looking to pick up a 14 year-old in order to have sex with them for money. It doesn't matter whether you're straight or gay. Adults having sex with minors is wrong. We'll just have to wait until tomorrow and see what happens. From my point of view it sure beats stocking shelves in my dad's grocery store."

"I guess you're right, Mike. We'll just have to wait until tomorrow. I was really scared that I was getting kicked out this morning. Did you know about any of this?"

"I knew it could happen. I also know that they want us to work together. Mark has to continue doing the self-defense training and help run the company. He'll probably be joining us in a couple of weeks. I'm going to miss seeing him everyday." Mike sighed. "At least you'll be able to see more of Danny." Just then Danny ran up to me.

"Mom and Dad are waiting outside. Are you guys ready to go? We had breakfast already," Danny said almost in one word.

"Yes, we're ready to go," replied Mike.

We got in the Smiths' car and headed for home. We explained on the way that we are starting on the job training. The Smiths, including Danny, were very proud of Mike and me for making it. We didn't go into what kind of work we expected to be doing. We got to the apartment building and Danny stayed with us. We dropped off our stuff and told Danny we needed to go shopping. His reaction was quick and to the point.

"I'm tired, Tommy...I thought we could cuddle and catch up on some sleep."

"I want to do that too, Danny, but I need to pick up some work clothes first. Then we can cuddle."

"What kind of clothes do you need, Tommy? Uniforms?"

"Well, the Watch Captain said expensive tennis shoes, tight blue jeans, form fitting tee shirt, and a leather jacket."

"What are you going to be doing, Tommy? Joining a motorcycle gang?"

"Mike and I think we'll be street walkers." I looked Danny in the eye to gauge his reaction. He got a big grin on his face.

"You're going to be a couple of whores!" Danny started laughing.

"Fuck-you."

"I'm willing and I think I have $10.00 in my pocket."

"Eat Shit."

"Do you charge extra for that?"

I socked Danny in the arm and he got me in a headlock. I put my arm under his legs and picked him off the ground and started carrying him towards the pool. He started screaming at me to stop and I put him back down.

"The only thing that saved you was the fact that I don't want to get Mike and Mark in trouble for having a guest swimming in the pool with street clothes on."

Danny tackled me and started tickling me. Soon I was begging him to stop. Danny and I spend much of our time like this. Mike finally broke us up and we got ourselves together. Then we went to the mall.

Danny was lots of help with getting both Mike and me just the right look. I hate shopping. Danny thought I looked better in just my regular look and felt I'd have the best luck dressed the way I always do. "It's funny," he said, "that straight police officers think they know how gay boys dress." I explained that they also arrest hustlers and probably have some idea as to how they dress. I was glad that he didn't seem to object to what was still causing some problems for me. However, I'm not going to dwell on it. We'll just have to see what tomorrow brings!

We went to the food court and got something to eat. After eating Danny suggested we stop at a donut shop for some donuts and grocery store for some Twinkies. He said that that's the diet of real police officers. This started another round of horseplay. Mike told us to quit it until we got home. We did stop at a grocery store and picked up a few things, BUT NO TWINKIES.

After putting everything away we did end up taking a nap after some heavy making out and getting off. I felt kind of sorry for Mike so I kept telling Danny to keep it down. He'd just reply with something like 'not even ice water could keep it down'. God, it's great to know I'm going to see more of Danny. We drifted off to sleep in each other's arms and must have slept for about 6 hours. When we got up it was almost dark.

We decided to go rent some videos and get some KFC. We all decided on several videos and original recipe. I really think it's the best. There are few things in life that can't be improved. Original recipe KFC, in my opinion, is one of those. We got back home and stayed up very late. Mike said that we didn't need to get up until noon and it's probably better if we don't, as we won't be getting home until 3:00 am Thursday morning.

Before I knew it we were dropping off Danny and heading for the train station. We decided that Mike would drop me off at Danny's house after I got off of work so I could sleep with him. It sure seemed like a good plan to me. I started getting nervous about tonight as soon as I got on the train. Then I noticed this guy looking at Mike with hungry eyes. He's not bad looking but perhaps a little old for him. He looked in his mid twenties. Finally he got up and walked over to us and took the seat across from us. The train is almost deserted inbound this time of day so no one else was around.

"This might sound a little forward but the last time I saw someone as cute as you on the train I let him get away."

"How do you even know I'm interested?" asked Mike.

"I didn't know for sure but you're not exactly dressed like a straight guy."

"Well, there's a reason for that too; my name is Mike, and this is Tommy."

"Nice to meet you, do you guys ever go online?"

"I do," replied Mike.

"Have you ever heard of a message board called The Shack?"

"Yes I sure have, I'm mostly a lurker but I've posted several times."

"Well, I'm the owner."

"No wonder you're being so forward. I read your post about the cute guy on the train you were looking for. I guess you didn't want to miss your chance again. However, we're both minors and have boyfriends. It's great to meet you though. I read all your stories and I think you're one of the best. Even my mom read 'New Kid in School' and really liked it. She was monitoring my online activities and read your story. It's great to meet you."

Mike and this guy whose name I never did get talked up a storm. I didn't understand anything they were talking about. It was all in some kind of code. They talked about NKIS, GFD, ACBH, and others, always spelling out the letters. Before we knew it we were at our train station and we wished him our best. He didn't offer to show us the town or get together again. I guess he lost interest when he found out Mike has a boyfriend.

We got off the train with only two blocks to walk until we got to the police station.

"What was that all about, Mike?"

"It's a long story, Tommy, I'll tell you about it later."

We approached an old building with 23rd Precinct sign over the door. We opened the door and stepped in. Then we approached a counter with a police office behind it.

"My I help you kids with anything?" he asked.

Mike pulled out his wallet and showed him his City of Chicago badge, "I'm officer Stevens and this is officer in training Tucker and we're here to see Captain Sanders."

"He's not here right at the moment, he had to go out on a call. He instructed me to send you in to see Sergeant O'Brien in vice. I'll buzz you through."

He pushed a button and we went through a door into the non-public area of the station. He had us take a seat while he called Sergeant O'Brien on the phone. A minute later a really big cheerful looking man appeared in front of us. He was dressed in khaki pants and a polo shirt. He also had a gun holstered on his belt. He looked like he's 40-something and bald on the top of his head.

"Hi, Mike, Tommy, great to meet you," he said while shaking our hands and patting us on the shoulder. "I've heard great things about both of you. I'm real excited to have you on my team for the next few weeks. It gives us the opportunity to do some things we've never done before. Come with me - let's go to my office and talk for a few minutes and then I'll show you around and introduce you to the guys in vice."

I instantly liked this guy. It seems like I'm going from one uncomfortable situation to another and every time I run into someone that takes me under their wing and takes care of me. We went into his office and sat down. He closed his door.

"This is the game plan, guys. We have a number of things planned for you in the next several weeks. We want you to work 2nd shift Wednesday through Sunday with Monday and Tuesday off. I hesitate to get you involved in anything really in depth for several reasons. First of all I know you're about to get real involved in a case as soon as you leave me. Second I really don't want to get you involved in anything that's probably going to go to trial or put your life in great danger. There's always danger in vice work but we're going to minimize that as much as possible."

"I'm going to get you involved in some sting operations. You're going to try to purchase some cigarettes, alcohol, and enter some bars and clubs. We're going to have you do some surveillance work. You can observe a crime happening like a drug deal and no one will ever suspect that you're cops. We're going to have you do some limited work with some of our other cases just so you can see how vice works."

"Tonight I want to run a sting operation involving prostitution. That's why I asked you to bring some cruising clothes with you. You'll be working with my team along with some uniformed police officers. This is real exciting for me because it's rare that we have someone underage to use. We can press additional charges on the johns because they are trying to solicit sex from a minor for money."

"There are many runaway kids hustling on the streets of Chicago. It's a real problem. We take 10 off the street and 15 more show up. It's a really sad situation. Prostitution is not a victimless crime. Our approach in recent years has been to go after the johns and try to get the runaways into homes. I see Mike is already dressed, did you bring a change of clothes, Tommy?"

"I did but my friend thinks I might do even better with what I'm wearing now."

"Perhaps he's right. We'll try it. The most important is to be comfortable with your clothes and not look like you are wearing them for the first time. I assume you guys have your weapons?"

"Yes we do," Mike answered.

"Very good, I didn't even notice them, you'll be issued bullets before we go out. It's not hard work. You just need to stand around and look interested. Cars will pull up and the window will roll down. They'll try to negotiate a price with you. We'll tell you what to say and how much. You'll tell them that you can't leave with them until your pimp has his fee and they have to meet you in a parking lot a block away. When he pays your pimp, 'Officer Keith', they'll be taken into custody - then on to the next john. Does it sound like something you guys would like to try tonight or would you rather start off trying to buy some cigarettes, or beer?"

"We can try the street walker thing, don't you think, Mike?" I replied.

"That's fine with me as long as it's ok with Tommy."

"That's great because we have the staff to do it tonight. Let me show you around and we'll get started!"
