Chapter Text

Prelude

...
I been living in a bad dream
I been living in a bad, bad dream

I wish that somebody would wake me
Don't like this feeling, won't you shake me
'Cause any more might break me
And you'll never know

I couldn't think of the right words
Now it just too late
Now you're somebody's baby
So I'll be on my way

I been living in a bad dream
I been living in a bad, bad dream
Sleepwalking through a sad scene
I been living in a bad, bad dream

I been living in a bad dream
I been living in a bad, bad dream
Sleepwalking through a sad scene
I been living in a bad, bad dream

...
The scene before him is dark with distorting images and muffled sounds.

I been living in a bad dream

A cascade of silver bells bounces away in a rippling effect. Smoke dissipates in a pirouette fashion into the night.

I been living in a bad, bad dream

Swaying bodies press forward in a crushing effect. Voices echo in reverberating unison.

Sleepwalking through a sad scene

Oscillating dancing lights reflect off golden brown eyes. Soft, delicate lips purse slightly- a crying contrast to Cannons' Bad Dream beating loudly in the background.

I been living in a bad, bad dream

"Travis!"

Travis Kelce springs forward in his bed, clutching his chest. He's drenched in sweats, again. His bedsheets cling to his near naked body. A nebulous nightmare threatens to rip his heart out of his chest, it's beating so fast. He's been having the same bad dream since the AFC Divisional Playoff game, in which Patrick Mahomes aka the Grim Reaper led the Kansas City Chiefs down the field in thirteen seconds to give the team the position to kick the game tying field goal to go into overtime.

Thirteen seconds. It takes thirteen seconds to lead to one of Travis's happiest moments.

Travis chants in his head from one to thirteen while staring up at the clock hanging above his bed as it tediously ticks away thirteen seconds. He takes thirteen deep breaths to finally subdue his racing heart and slides back into bed. He doesn't close his eyes. He's wide awake as sleep continues to evade him.
