Chapter 17 We Fit Together
Once they had the food, Jacob paid and they drove to the hotel O-Town was staying and went to his room.
"I've got a nice, quiet place for us to eat," Jacob said reassuringly. "Nothing is going to ruin this evening."
'Don't be so sure,' the Shadow thought.
Then entered the room and Jacob set the lighting, a dim setting to make the mood more romantic. Then he went into the kitchen area and found some plates and silverware. He brought them in and set the table, serving the food and pouring the wine.
"Please, have a seat," Jacob said.
He sat down across from the singer and started to eat. It tasted very good.
"You don't let too many get to know you, do you?" Jacob asked.
"Not really."
"Why? Like I said, you seem like such a great guy. I'm very curious about getting to know you. That's what this is all about, two people getting better acquainted."
"You are a great guy," he complimented.
"Thanks."
As Jacob took a bite of food, some fell off his fork and landed on his shirt.
"Damn. I'll be right back."
Jacob stood up and went into the bathroom.
The youth looked around the room and saw a piece of paper on Jacob's desk. He looked at it and read the word "Danu". He crinkled up his eyes in bewilderment. 'I wonder what that is?' he thought.
When Jacob came out, to our hero's surprise, he was shirtless.
"What's wrong?" Jacob asked walking over to the table. "Haven't you ever seen another man's chest before?"
"I've seen a few."
"Then what's the problem?"
"I...never mind."
Jacob smiled and sat down. They finished eating and then went to the balcony. A gentle breeze blew and caressed them as they stood gazing up at the stars. Jacob reached over and placed his hand on top of the Shadow's hand.
"I can't lie to you," Jacob said. "Everything I've told you about tonight was true. But there was more."
"What?"
Jacob burst into song as if it were the natural thing to do.
"I've been waiting for the stars to come out
Dinner it was fine,
But I can't lie 'cause I've been waiting for ya
To come back to mine
I've been thinking of you 24/7 and 365
Now the girl from Impanema
She's here right by my side"
Jacob turned to face the Shadow, taking him by the hands and looking deeply into his eyes.
"I got you now and I just wanna
Show you how to play
Goosebumps on your body
Guide the way
I wanna go all night
Ain't no stoppin' 'till the breakin' of the dawn
I wanna go inside every corner
Boy, you really turn me on
I wanna go knock knock
Our bodies to the beat
And when the morning comes
we're letting the sun shine
We'll stay in bed
You can't separate us
We fit together"
Jacob headed into the room and the Shadow reluctantly followed. This seemed like the right thing to do, yet the Shadow could not help but sense something was slightly wrong.
"I can feel you comin' closer
Dancin' in the dark (Dancin' in the dark)
I touch your lips and kiss your shoulders
Send a letter to your heart
I can't explain to which extreme I'm feelin' you (Feelin' you)
How many triple X dreams that's been starring you
I got you now and I just wanna
Show you how to play
Goosebumps on your body
Guide the way
I wanna go all night
Ain't no stoppin' 'till the breakin' of the dawn (Breakin' of the dawn)
I wanna go inside every corner
Boy you really turn me on (I wanna go I wanna go)
I wanna go knock knock
Our bodies to the beat
And when the morning comes (When the morning comes)
We're letting the sun shine
We'll stay in bed (Oh baby)
You can't separate us
We fit together"
He turned away from Jacob very uncomfortable now of the situation. Jacob grabbed him and gently turned him around so the two were face-to-face. Jacob continued singing.
"I won't get nothing done of what I oughta do,
It doesn't really matter to me
I-I-I-I am here with you
I can't explain to what degree I'm feelin' you
How many triple x dreams I've had starring you
But I got you now and i just wanna show you how to play
(Show you how to play)
Goosebumps on your body
Guide the way"
The music and singing continued but Jacob was not singing. It was as if others were singing and their voices carried into the room surrounding them. Jacob kissed him gently on the cheek, then on the lips, and back to the cheek.
As the song neared the end, Jacob joined in.
"I wanna go all night
Can I go inside
How about inside
I wanna go all night
Can I go all night
What about inside
Can I go inside"
Whatever made him feel right about the situation was gone, and he backed away from Jacob, who had unbuttoned his shirt and kissed him on the neck, moving down his chest. Jacob's hands moved lower to his pants and unbuckled them. One hand moved further south and cupped his privates.
The Shadow jerked away from Jacob and looked into Jacob's eyes.
"What?" Jacob said with a hurt look in his face. Jacob looked into his eyes and saw them filled with tears, however none poured down his cheek. "What's wrong?"
"I--I can't," he said buckling his belt and turning toward the door.
"I don't understand. Please, help me understand."
"There's nothing for you to understand," he replied unlocking the door and opening it.
"But..."
"No," he said interrupting. "My response is no." With that, he exited the hotel room and closed the door.
Jacob wiped his eyes and went over to the dinner table. He caressed the silverware his date used and then the tears fell down his cheeks. He grabbed the utensils and flung them across the room.
Within a few moments, a knock came at the door.
"Jacob? Are you okay?"
"Yeah," Jacob replied between sobs.
The door opened and Ashley and Dan entered.
"What's wrong?" Dan asked as he approached Jacob.
"Nothing."
"Where did he go?" Ashley asked.
"He left. We were having a really nice time, very romantic. I thought we would be intimate tonight. But he stopped. He backed up and said 'no.' There was something in his eyes, though, that bothered me."
"There's been something about him since you met him, Jake," Ashley replied. "Why are you so into this guy?"
"I don't know. There is something about him that I'm attracted to. It's like I can see into his soul. I know there is something vulnerable about him, something he doesn't want anyone to know about."
"That he's a freak," Dan replied.
"Dan," Ashley corrected.
"You guys don't see it. You guys have been busy with your own things since we've been here."
"I must say, this trip has not sucked in the least. We've had sold out concerts and lots of girls hitting on us."
"I haven't had this much sex since..."
"I really don't want to hear about all the pussy you've had," Jacob interrupted Dan.
"I just meant there have been lots of girls throwing themselves at me. Several even wanted to have threesomes. I can handle that."
"Dan!" Ashley said loudly.
"Sorry."
"God, would you stop thinking about yourself for once?" Jacob replied.
The Shadow made his way down the street. Cars of all shapes, colors, and sizes to match the people of all shapes, colors and sizes passed him, yet his mind was not focused on them. His mind was back at what nearly happened at Jacob's apartment.
'I wanted it,' he said to himself. 'I wanted to have sex with Jacob. And it wasn't just about the sex. He could actually see me. He seems to genuinely care. That's more than I've ever felt from anyone. It almost makes me glad that I came back to life, to find someone who actually appears to be interested in me.'
