The nature of a truly desperate heart - Chapter 5

Tommy

I won my court case easily, and after talking with my clients for a few minutes I went back to the office, I looked at my phone and saw a text from Matt saying he loved me too, I was so happy. I was answering when my battery died on me and I didn't have a charger in the car nor in the office.

At 5:30pm I had all done and decided to go home, Joe had already left, since he was having dinner with Tessa's parents. I was the last one leaving the office. I got in the elevator to go to the garage and pick my car when the power went off, I cursed at my lack of luck, I wanted to go home to my boyfriend and here I was, stuck in an elevator with no cellphone. With the intercom I asked for help, and was told that help would take a while to arrive because of a big accident near the office. I knew time was passing, but I didn't know what time it was, I was getting nervous, agitated and hungry, plus I needed my boyfriend. I smiled, I loved calling Matt my boyfriend.

At 7:30pm power had finally be restored in the building and the street was cleaned of the accident, from what I could hear of the people talking a guy was in bad shape, but would possibly recover, the other two only had superficial wounds. The guy in worse shape had a car from the same model and color as mine, it was an amazing coincidence.

When I got home I went straight to the bar, as soon as I got in I looked at Matt and he collapsed. I ran to him and tried to wake him up, when he finally started gaining conscience I took him to his apartment and sat him on the couch.

"I thought it was you in that accident, it was your car. Some guys were saying that the driver was dead."

"It was a car similar to mine, but not mine. The driver is in pretty bad shape, but he will recover. And me, I was stuck in an elevator due to a power fail, and I had no battery on my phone. I'm sorry i got you worried."

"I love you, I can't lose you know. I'm sorry I freaked out. I'm glad you're here with me."

We kissed for a few minutes, in relief that both of us were here to enjoy each other, this was where I wanted to be, where I needed to be.

"I should get back to work." Matt said getting up and falling again in the couch.

"Are you ok, you look weak."

"Yea, I'm fine, I probably should eat something."

"You haven't ate? I left you pancakes."

"I know, and they were awesome, and also the only thing I ate today."

"Okay, let's put something in that tummy and then we'll go work for a bit, but I'm not leaving your side."

I threw a few things together for us to eat and plugged my phone, when I turned it on I had several missed calls from Joe and my parents, along the ones from Matt. I called everyone saying it wasn't me on the accident, my parents announced they were coming for the weekend. I left Matt eating while I changed clothes, when I came back downstairs he was feeling better and taking care of the cleanup.

"Matt, my parents are coming for the weekend."

"Ok, nice."

"How should I introduce you to then?"

"How about 'mom and dad, this is Matt.'?"

"I was thinking maybe something in the line of 'mom and dad, this is Matt, my boyfriend." Matt was standing there, open mouthed, like he couldn't believe in what I was saying

"I know we haven't talk about relationships status, and we only slept together once, and never had sex with each other, but I really want to introduce you as my boyfriend."

"Yes. I'd love that."

"Good, then is settled. Let's go work."

"You worked too much today, stay and have a rest, it's already 9:30 pm, in a couple of hours we'll be closing."

"I am tired, but I don't want you to collapse again, so I'm going with you."

"I'm feeling better, I promise if I start feeling week I'll come up."

"You win this time, I'll be waiting for you in your bed. I don't want my poor, fable boyfriend to climb two flights of stairs."

Matt started laughing, he kissed me and went to the bar, I went upstairs to gather clothes and my toothbrush for the morning and came back, I took a shower and dressed only in my briefs went to bed. I must have been more tired than I anticipated, because I fell asleep and didn't even felt bed get into the bed. When I woke up his head was in my chest, and I loved that feeling.

I didn't want to go to work, but my clients needed me, and I had two cases going to court early in the next week, so I had to meet the clients and form a plan of action. The day went by slower than I wished. At 4:30pm I received a text from Matt saying I should head straight to his apartment. I was immediately happy and that made time even slower. My last meeting was at 5pm, so by 6pm I would be home. When I was finished for the day I almost ran, I looked at the elevator, but I didn't want to risk getting stuck again, so I ran all the way down to the garage, I ran through all 7 flights of stairs, got in the car and drove downtown.

Matt

When it was finally closing time, and with all the cleanup done I went home. My bed never looked better, Tommy was lying there in underwear, and by the size of the tent he must have been having a great dream, I hoped it was me he was dreaming about. I took my clothes off, took a shower and got into bed quietly ad to not wake up my sleeping beauty.

When I woke up I was alone, I looked at the time and sure enough, Tommy must have gone to work already, in the kitchen another sight greeted me, breakfast was done, and covered in the same way, a paper napkin with "I love you" written in it. I was loving waking up to this, and I had to do something to pay for breakfast.

It was Wednesday, so usually the bar was calm all night long, after opening and having my meeting with my employees I informed them that I wouldn't be working today, and to call me only if there was something urgent to take care off. I sent a text to Tommy saying to not go to the bar, that I was waiting for him in my place. He answered saying he should be home by 6pm.

I got busy cooking dinner for us, I had no lights on, everything was illuminated by candles, including the dining room table, where I also had some flowers. This would be romantic date number one.

Tommy arrived just as the oven buzzed, food was ready. The food had to rest for 15 minutes before serving which gave us the perfect time to have a drink. Tommy still had his tie on, I hadn't had the opportunity to see him in full suit, and when I looked at him, I loved what I saw. I ushered him in, kissing him and leading him to the living room, it was too soon to show him the dining room. I served us drinks and we chatted about our day. I went to the kitchen and took the food to the table, and called him.

When he saw the table he smiled, I knew I had hit jackpot with this surprise, we ate while talking about something I don't even remember, we cleaned up together and went back to the living room with our wine glasses, we cuddled in the couch listening to music, singing along and laughing because we were both terrible singers.

The rest of the week was routine, and nothing happened, but I was getting nervous. Tommy's parents would arrive Saturday morning, I was gonna meet my parents-in-law and was freaked, I wanted them to love me. Tommy must have felt that I was nervous.

"You know what, I won't introduce you as my boyfriend."

"Why not?"

"My mom will know as soon as she looks at you, all nervous about meeting the in-laws."

"Well, I'm glad someone is enjoying this, because I sure am not."

He started laughing, it worked, because I began to relax. I had everything ready in Tommy apartment, snacks, coffee and tea were ready to be served, the place was cleaned, they had a parking spot ready for them, since I moved the van to the public parking. I just had to relax and hope they liked me. And I still had to work, Saturdays were normally very busy at the bar. It was 10am when they arrived, sure enough neither of us had to say anything, his mother spoke for us.

"So, you're my new son-in-law. Looks wise is an upgrade, let's see about the rest."

Tommy's dad was laughing with his wife's antics, I finally allowed myself to relax, knowing that at least they weren't looking at me like they hated me and didn't want me in their son's life.

"Mom, don't be mean, give Matt a chance, you'll love him like I do."

"You said the something about Adam."

"It was Allan, and it's different."

"Really, why?"

"Believe me, mom, it is different."

"Fine, we shall see."

She finally looked at me and winked, I smiled knowing she was messing with Tommy, and hoped it meant she liked me, I'm was sure his dad did, he was fascinated with the fact that I owned a successful business. We had lunch, in which I answered a complete quiz, for a few minutes I felt like I was being interviewed by the police. After lunch we continued talking, but I had to leave, since it was time to open the bar. Tommy took me to the door and kissed me, promising to stop by the bar later.
