The Human Bearer

He waited for his Xeno husband to return with bated breath. What he had heard happening in that meeting had put him on the edge, because these aliens seemed to him like a murderous bunch when things weren't going their way. The incident during which Drato Menor had been attacked – even if his life might have never been in danger – was fresh in his mind, and there were so many questions he needed to ask Xana.

The moment Xana was back, he rushed into his arms, all their earlier conflict forgotten. "I heard them," he said, pressing his forehead against his husband's large chest. The large buttons of the Royal Chancellor garment were hard and cold against his cheek, but he didn't care. "You do have allies, right, Xana?" he asked and looked up. "If you're in danger, forget about power, forget about having a duty to rule them. I won't bear if anything happened to you--"

Xana's low chuckle stopped him. "If I knew you'd show such a vulnerable expression for my sake, I would have put myself in danger's way sooner."

Riordan pursed his lips and smacked Xana's chest to vent his frustration. "Never put yourself in harm's way, what the hell?" And then, he sighed. "I'm glad you're okay now, and that you put those guys in their places, but it looks to me like they have all sorts of ideas. Why don't they rule the entire race in your place if they're so smart?"

"A decision for naming the Royal Chancellor is not an easy one. I'd like to hear you say that their choice was the right one."

"Of course, it was. But what if they want to use you because you're young, and they think they can do whatever they like? Behind your back, on top of everything?"

"Don't underestimate me, my love." Xana took his hands, kissed them, and then moved away so that he could remove his uniform.

It only then crossed Riordan's mind that Xana, regardless of how strong he was, might be tired after facing his opponents for so many hours on end. Junior was out with Kyle, on one of their adventures, and at least half of the guards by their door followed. That gave him the chance to make things better between him and his husband.

He took off his robe, all the while keeping his eyes on Xana's back, still turned to him. When his husband moved to get into the water tank, he followed, cradling his large belly with one arm. He stopped when he was about to reach the glass wall. From behind it, Xana's hypnotic eyes took him in. Appreciation mixed with lust could easily be read in that intent stare. Riordan felt a pleasant jolt coursing through his body and stopping in the lower half of his belly.

He gasped and then laughed as Xana's deft tail reached for him, lifting him into the air and then bringing him into the water tank.

"Did I tell you your dad taught me how to breathe underwater?" he joked.

"I have a very distinct recollection of you showing it to me when I was still getting my bearings back. But I wouldn't mind being reminded it."

Riordan let out a desperate moan as Xana's tail impaled his behind and his lips were taken into a hot kiss. He knew Xana was pulling him underwater, and his human brain anticipated the discomfort associated with being left without the ability to breathe. Even if he was no longer that human, his DNA had a way to keep him back, or so it seemed.

Xana didn't allow him too much time to worry. In his tight embrace, Riordan forgot about his wariness, and kissed back with as much force as he could deliver. His husband turned him and took him from behind, his large cock finding its way to join the naughty tail that was already thrusting in and out Riordan's ass, triggering a string of mind blowing sensations at each turn.

Xana's hands caressed his belly, his horniness most likely triggered by the sight of that, too. Just to see that look on his husband's face made Riordan believe that he wished he could be pregnant all the time. With so many Xenolites waiting to be born, maybe his wish wasn't off the mark.

I love you so much, Xana, I want to have all your babies.

It looked like Xenos could very well laugh when communicating with their minds, while their lips were busy doing something else. It was a full laugh, too, showing how pleased Xana was with Riordan's words. Self-assured and arrogant, as well, but Riordan liked that about his husband. That made him the meanest mofo when dealing with his opponents.

Will you be with me when I give birth?

Of course, I will, my love. I wouldn't miss it for the world.

Riordan put his hands over Xana's and they caressed their unborn eggs together. He was sure his cries of pleasure were silent underwater, and there was no risk for him to drown, as this species' natural environment now agreed with him. His belly bulged even more, as Xana flooded his insides with seth and cum.

That was the proof of his husband's desire for him, something he might have found it strange before, but now was what he craved the most. Together, they floated to the bottom of the tank and Riordan let his head rest against Xana's shoulder as the large tail curled around them to protect them from the entire world.

"There's something I don't understand, Xana," he eventually said. They were in bed now, resting and enjoying their time off from all the duties both had. "Why is being a Xeno empath such a big deal? I mean, I understand that you don't need a guy with a big brain and the ability to manipulate everyone among you, but who says that you can't control him? I feel like there's a catch, but I don't see it."

Xana caressed Riordan's head slowly, moving his fingers through the strands of hair, his nails slowly scratching the scalp. Riordan felt close enough to purr, and that wasn't his speed, normally. He closed his eyes to enjoy the pleasant sensations and listened to his husband's heartbeat for a while.

"Among Xenos, there is a strict hierarchy," Xana began explaining. "Our birthright is our coat. We are created to serve a role, and an empath was never one of these roles."

"So, it's just aversion towards something new?"

"More than that. This hierarchy is essential for the Xeno society to function and thrive. We don't condone chaos. Things are thoroughly determined."

"Hmm, but it seems to me like a lot of your calculations must have gone tits up when you stumbled upon us." Riordan raised his head to look Xana in the eyes. "I'm talking about Earth. You conquered us, but it looks to me like we sort of conquered you back, in a way. You need us."

"I need you," Xana said playfully.

"I know. I'm proud of it, too, you know? I didn't think I'd feel that way, but here we are."

Xana kissed his forehead. "I'm glad to hear such a thing from your scathing mouth."

"My scathing--"

Xana shut him up with a kiss. "It is true that you are changing us, but your influence is offset by the fact that we're the ones controlling you."

"I have some ideas about how that's not true, but let's get back to what a Xeno empath might do to you as a species that makes you so scared about it. Before you get your panties in a twist, yeah, I get it, you never feel scared, only that you sure act like you're cornered sometimes. Not you, your other guys."

"It is about control, as I said," Xana continued. "We share the same consciousness, and we have individual agency, at the same time. But imagine, for a moment, my love, that all the Xenos, each and every one, down to the last, would be held in the absolute power of a single mind."

"Like a tyrant, you mean? What those guys called you?"

"It wasn't by accident that they chose to call me that. My opponents know very well how much of an insult that is. But an empath would be more than just a Xeno that can force the rest into obeying him blindly. He would be capable of convincing them, to the core of their being, that it is the right thing to do. A Xeno like that could lead us all the greatness, as well as certain doom. It is too much of a gamble to allow it to exist."

"It also sounds to me like a Xeno empath would be quite the weapon," Riordan mused out loud.

"A weapon with a mind of its own is a dangerous asset to have and handle," Xana said. "And I know that when you think of little Dario, you can't see him as anything but a child. He will grow up, and one day, he will turn into a powerful weapon for a ruler. There's no escaping. This will be his fate."

Riordan trembled for a moment and grimaced as he disliked being cold. "His parents are great people. He will grow up kind. I really don't think we should worry so much about him turning into a vengeful bastard. Wait, Xana, but all that opposition against him and his parents, wouldn't that turn him into a vengeful bastard?"

"I love how you have a mind of your own, my love. It is an angle to consider, of course. If that is the case, it only means that the high commander did us a world of good by showing mercy and lending Drato and his Xenolite a helping hand."

"Wow, I didn't think of it this way. But if we kept them on the ship, as our friends, wouldn't it have been better?"

"They would have been in danger all the time. Yes, don't look at me like that. I can't fault the high commander for processing the information at hand like this. Now, I need you to think of an aspect you appear to be overlooking. A Xeno empath is dangerous on his own enough as things stand, at least from a theoretical point of view. But empaths, as you may well know, have needs. And their needs are strong."

"Bonding?" Riordan stared at Xana until he received a nod of confirmation. "So, another Xeno... would have to bond with the empath? How does that even work? Between two Xenos, I mean."

"It can't, and it shouldn't," Xana replied. "Gamni Gafilos was so dangerous to us because of his ideas regarding this specific type of trouble."

"What do you mean?" The post-sex tiredness was starting to fade as the new things revealed by his alien husband stimulated his mind. What directions his thoughts took was something he intended to carefully lay out in front of Xana and gauge his reaction.

"It wasn't by accident that the general picked Florent Kasido from a plethora of candidates. It isn't... wasn't the usual procedure to have a Xeno establish particular criteria for choosing a bearer. But exceptions were made."

"Marn allowed these exceptions? Is this what you're trying to tell me? But why?"

"He must have hoped to win over those Xenos that weren't thrilled by the idea of having the human bearers play such an important role in our society. It was for the first time in our history that we brought home our bearers. Usually, the transfer process took place on the bearers' planets, and we only went there to get our Xenolites. And assist the birth, of course."

"You guys really went out of your way to accommodate the likes of us, what can I say?" He smiled to soften the sarcasm. "What changed? Why are we so special?"

"Your similarity in looks to the Xeno race. With it, came an attraction that was new to all of us. Of course, at first, it was considered a fluke, manifesting itself in some of our brethren, but it quickly became obvious that the same affliction took over us all. Or not all, since Xenos like Gamni Gafilos showed their disgust in coupling with such inferior creatures."

"Inferior creatures, my ass," Riordan mumbled.

Xana laughed. "You know I share nothing of that view. And these elements were few and far between. However, they had power, which was why His Royal Chancellor believed that a new phase in the history of our planet had begun and we had to act on it."

"Marn is a wise guy and an asshole when he wants. Couldn't he just put these guys in jail or something?"

"For what? Not liking Earthian ass?" Xana joked.

"Oh, right, that's all you guys see in us."

"No, it's more than that. You also have these exquisite bellies we so love." Xana caressed his pregnancy bump with clear intent.

Riordan caught his husband's hand. "I know you're always ready to go, but let's focus on the important stuff, `cause I'm not done. You were saying that Gamni Gafilos chose Florent Kasido based on his own criteria. So, he knew he wanted an empath?"

"Yes, but this is what we know in hindsight, and we had no idea when it happened, or better said, for what purpose."

Riordan frowned. "But I thought that Gamni only wanted Florent so that he could have the guy lose the egg and then say that all human bearers are bad."

"Something must not have worked as planned. What I can speculate right now is that Gamni tried to use Florent to create a bond that would give him the necessary power to control other Xenos and make them obey to his will, but he didn't get there. Once that must have become obvious to him, he probably wanted to rid himself of Florent."

"And the egg," Riordan murmured. "What a bastard. What sort of asshole does that to his unborn child?"

"It is as shocking to me as it is to you, my love. I cannot imagine such a thing, let alone accept it. And yet, we know that it is possible, because it happened."

Riordan pondered for a while, trying to separate he instinctive repulsion of having to imagine such a thing from the information that could be gleaned from it. "What happened to the broken egg? It was broken, I assume."

"Gamni was the only one who could have answered your question. He was the only one who witnessed what happened to Florent. No one questioned his pain at the time, let alone think of asking him about such delicate matters."

"When that happens," Riordan asked and sucked in a breath, "when an egg is not brought to term, what's the usual procedure?"

"We don't have funerals for broken eggs. As we don't have funerals at all," Xana explained. "But there was a place on Xeno where the bodies of those perished were brought. A swamp."

"Sort of like a cemetery."

"We don't use that term."

"Just like you don't cry," Riordan said matter-of-factly. "Poor Florent," he added in a weary voice. "By the way, he asked me to put in a good word with you. He would like to beg for his husband's life in person, so he wonders if you could see him."

Xana moved away, and Riordan could no longer see his face.

"There's no need for that. I have every intention to keep the high commander alive and well."

"Still, he might need to hear it from you," Riordan insisted. "Hey, what's wrong? Are you scared of Florent or something?"

"Scared? Hmm," Xana said in a thoughtful tone. "No, but I cannot be seen playing favorites. Not when our understanding is in such a delicate balance. I have a role to play, Riordan. I can't give you this, and I hope you will forgive me."

"Sure, I mean, I understand. And don't be so formal with me, it gives me the willies. Do you know Florent is pregnant?"

This time, Xana turned to stare at him, jerking one shoulder and taking Riordan by surprise. "I hope he hasn't touted this all over the ship."

"No, I mean, I don't think so. But why? Oh fuck, are we going to have a second Dario incident on our hands? That Xenolite, in Florent's belly--"

"Hush, don't say it, my love. Tell him that he must keep it a secret. I can't contact him directly, or some of my brethren might become aware of it. I don't intend to take such risks."

"Okay, I'll do that. I suppose that our rudimentary speech comes in handy in times like this," he joked, only to push away some of the tension that had grown between him and Xana after mentioning Florent's pregnancy. "Is he in danger?"

"I'll have more guards keep an eye on him," Xana said. "I have no palpable proof that anyone might wish him harm, but having a Xenolite on the way, the high commander's on top of it all, changes the game."

"For how long is this going to go? Florent doesn't get out much, but even he needs to stretch his legs. His pregnancy will become visible sooner or later."

"Yes, that's true. But I will not sit idle in the meantime."

"Things appear to be stuck, though, don't they?"

"Yes," Xana agreed.

"Which means that something needs to happen to shake things up, right?"

"Yes," came the second reply.

Riordan couldn't help thinking that Xana was more than just aware of that little truth. His Xeno mind had to be working an angle, but at the moment, he wasn't letting his human bearer in on it.

That meant he'd have to trust Xana. He saw no reason not to.
