The Human Bearer
He opened his eyes, and all he could see at the moment was a plethora of faint reflections, shimmering and fading as they followed a strange pattern. What could that be? Riordan tried to move, but his entire body felt as if it were paralyzed. And those reflections... was he underwater?
It had to be a dream; there was no other explanation for it, but, at the same time, it appeared to be some sort of lucid dreaming. And it reminded him of something. Something unsettling. Riordan focused on the beating of his heart, which was loud in his ears. His own breathing came in hitched, shortened by a sensation close to panic. Only that he didn't feel afraid. Whatever went on, it happened somewhere outside of him.
His hearing caught something, besides the gurgling of blood in his own veins and the fast hammering of his pulse. It was like... conversation. He struggled to focus and ignore whatever sensorial cues his body was trying to send. Listening in to that conversation was far more important.
Unity... strength in numbers... pull him out of there...
Riordan sensed his teeth clenching on their own accord. It was frustrating to hear that sort of disrupted speech. There were more voices than one. Xeno voices. How he could tell wasn't clear, but he just knew. Xenos were communicating in their usual fashion, and their thoughts intermingled, not waiting for another to speak, but rather exchanging thoughts faster than what a human brain could comprehend.
What had Ferix taught him? For a bit, he tried to recall what he had learned from the young doc. He needed to focus on his breathing first and empty his mind. Even if the panic he was experiencing at the moment tried to take over, his mission was to overlook it completely in favor of letting his mind absorb the flow of telepathic conversation running by like a river hurrying towards the sea.
It was easier to do such a thing when he was awake. Riordan didn't doubt for a second that all was real, despite the strange appearance of the physical space around him. He was still in Xeus's quarters, lying in bed; of that he was sure. With one deep, controlled breath, he managed to quiet down the noises made by his own body. It was like he was tuning a radio to get a better transmission. Those devices had been such a quaint reminder of past centuries, but Riordan had fiddled with a few in his time to know how they worked.
We can't allow a single incident destroy what we've built.
He had an inkling that he knew who was talking. Even if Xenos didn't sound the same as they did when they used speech as when they communicating telepathically, their voices had very specific signatures. And this one was His Royal Chancellor. His tone was appeasing and measured. He probably tried to handle some hotheaded Xenos that wanted blood. Cario's blood.
Denying our right, our pain, is not the way.
My pain is no less important.
Riordan felt a short jolt at the last words. That was Drato. He sounded cold and distant, and his tone was brusque.
You can always get another bearer. Our sons are lost forever.
You have developed Earthian feelings for your Earthian bearer. You are not capable of seeing the truth.
Some Xenos, and Riordan couldn't tell he recognized them – although he suspected them to be Mikar Perana and Trisna Heret – were ganging up on Drato.
He belongs to me. I have two Xenolites growing inside him.
How convenient that he would be carrying your eggs at this time.
Your comment is disregarded. That was Marn again, intervening in conversation. Destroying the bearer, as guilty as you might believe him to be, is not the answer.
Riordan gasped, and only then realized that he had been holding in his next breath, preoccupied as he had been of not losing a word. So, at that time of night, Marn was putting the injured parties face to face, so to speak. He focused again, but the voices he was hearing in his head were gone. Had the meeting finished? So quickly?
His eyelids grew heavy. Damn, why have superpowers if he couldn't use them whenever needed? The sound of flowing water lulled him back to sleep, and he found himself helpless against it.
With a new day came new responsibilities. Riordan had no idea how much daddy-in-law agreed with being left to take care of the kids since he was a big-shot general, so he had to ask directly.
"Father, I have some things to take care of. Do you think you could watch over them?" he asked after feeding Junior and Dario and straightening his robe in place.
"For a bearer, you find too many things to do outside the place you need to be." Xeus gave him a long pointed look. "Hopefully, your duty calls to you. See where Xana is, and don't allow him to wander in other bearers' beds for too long. You realize that if he chooses to replace you, I can't go against his decision. As much as I prefer you to be his bearer."
"Thank you for your kind thoughts, father," Riordan said, quite pleased with the knack for diplomacy he seemed to have developed lately. "I do not intend to let Xana embrace another bearer. I will go search for him and beg him to return." He kept his head bowed in hope that Xeus couldn't tell he was talking out of his ass. The sharp gaze seemed to drill through the crown of his head, but that was just him being too paranoid. Or not.
"You're guarding your thoughts. You do not trust me."
"Well, reading someone's thoughts all the time shows distrust, as well," Riordan countered. "I'm just an Earthian emotional mess, hence my attitude problem."
"Go where you need to be. I hope to see you and Xana by tonight."
If things went well, why not? Riordan thought as he hurried out. Currently, his plan involved less finding Xana, and more finding Kyle. He needed to ask the knowledgeable bot about the still hidden traitor. If Kyle had felt another presence at that time the attack on Xana took place, it was a good place to start.
Déjà vu was an unpleasant thing to experience when it concerned unpleasant events, but seeing Xana moving down one of the hallways with Jasno by his side felt like a punch to the chest. Riordan hid behind a corner before the two had got a chance to notice him. It was dumb of him to feel like this, but, for a moment there, a dark veil had covered his eyes. No, it was more like red, and in a split second, he had seen himself going over to Jasno and strangle the hell out of that guy.
He took a deep breath and looked round the corner to see if Xana and Jasno were out of view.
"Shit," he mumbled under his breath.
They were only feet away, as they had stopped for some unknown reason in the middle of the hallway. Xana was holding Jasno by the shoulders and that fucking doll face was staring at the Xeno with stars in his eyes.
The dark red veil descended again. Riordan stepped out and rushed ahead, the logical part of his brain too slow on the uptake.
"Hands off," he growled.
Jasno turned his head and his eyes grew wide. Riordan could tell his nostrils were flaring, and his entire body trembled. The hell was going on?
"Xana, please," Jasno whimpered like the bitch he was, "he's going to hurt me."
Xana stepped between them and held one hand up. Riordan clenched his fists. Okay, this was weird, he needed to stop before he was doing something to jeopardize the mission. The fuck was wrong with him? His breath was heavy, the air burning in his chest.
"Bearer, return to your quarters," Xana ordered. "This is not a place for you to be."
Jasno made the mistake of peeking from behind Xana. He grinned and looked pleased with himself. "It's not my fault your man is looking elsewhere for what you can't give him at home."
Riordan growled again, low in his chest. "That's it, fucker, you're asking for it."
Not even Xana managed to hold him back as he grabbed Jasno by the hair, making him yelp in surprise more than in pain. Xana caught his wrist and made him drop Jasno, and when he looked up, Riordan felt his vision clearing a bit.
"Hey, let go of me," he growled at Xana.
"You must learn how to behave, bearer. You have no excuse for your behavior."
"No shit." Riordan only meant to shake away Xana's hold but managed to jerk so suddenly that his other elbow ended smacking his alien husband in the chest, enough to make him waver for a moment. Xana let go of his wrist, and it was Riordan's turn to sway on his feet.
What the fuck was he doing? He took a couple of steps backwards and ran away, Jasno's nasty laugh following him.
That had been weird as fuck. What was that surge of jealousy, coming out of nowhere? Riordan really hoped he didn't mess anything. He continued to run down the long corridors, with no clear intention in his mind. The rush of adrenaline from earlier was fading, and he felt drained. He eventually stopped and realized that he was at the end of one of the hallways and needed to turn back.
He barely took a step and clashed with a bigger mass. He looked up and saw Xana's handsome face, his eyes green flames, his lips quirked in a smile.
"What?" he mumbled.
Xana grabbed him by one shoulder and pushed him through a door he hadn't noticed. Riordan grabbed a shelf with both hands as he was about to fall on his ass. They were in a small storage room of some sort.
"Bearer," Xana said in an amused voice, "I'm here to teach you a lesson."
Riordan gasped as Xana yanked his robe up, leaving him half-naked. He barely had time to take a quick breath as his husband's tail was between his butt cheeks, pushing them apart, and lubing him with seth.
Xana held him close and whispered in his ear. "I know you're playacting for the sake of our mission, but I'm grateful. No one suspects a thing. When you leave here, you will look like a crying mess. They'll think I disciplined you."
Riordan let out a small cry he muffled by pressing one hand over his mouth. Xana's sharp teeth were digging into his ear, combining pleasure and pain. He wasn't playacting, but he couldn't confess to it, because Xana was at it, impaling him on his huge alien cock, using him like he was nothing but a cocksleeve. The fucking, he could tell, was brutal, and only the copious amounts of seth made it so mind-blowing pleasurable. He was a damn blow doll for his husband, and he was crying out his pleasure like a maniac.
"Xana," he whispered, but his mouth was soon taken and the forked tongue played with his, making him go nuts with bliss.
"I love seeing you jealous," Xana said and licked his ear. "But this must look like punishment." His tail left Riordan's ass and penetrated his mouth swiftly.
The thing was so big, bruising his lips. Riordan welcomed the new abuse, as Xana went deep in his ass, so deep that his backside had to be destroyed by now.
"I'll leave my mark on you," Xana added. "They'll all see it. And they won't know what they see. But they will know that you're mine."
Riordan grunted as Xana's tail wrapped around his neck. Even that made him delirious. His cock twitched and spilled, over and over. He had to be an absolute mess now. His mind couldn't even wrap itself around what was happening. He was witness to his own pleasure, drowning in it, as his eyes rolled in his head.
"I assume this taught you enough for now," Xana said loudly while letting him drop to the floor.
Riordan watched as his alien husband left the room, and then at the open door. A few heads appeared in his line of vision, and he heard a few snickers.
"You simply don't go against your master like that," someone commented with delight.
"I suppose he's lucky he's still breathing."
"Maybe he's carrying another Xenolite. That would be the only reason why he's allowed to walk."
Jasno stood in the doorframe and looked down at him, his arms crossed. "Make sure you don't bother us again, Riordan. Your master doesn't care about you. He's bored already."
Riordan raised one hand slowly and flipped the bird at Jasno.
A large grin spread on the guy's face. "With such manners, no wonder he wants to get rid of you. You're lucky you're still breastfeeding that boy. Or else," Jasno added and let his threat hanging.
Riordan closed his eyes and grunted while touching his neck. The door closed after those assholes and only then he got up. Seth and cum poured down the inside of his thighs, splashing the ground underneath. Now that was something those idiots hadn't noticed, of course.
All they had seen was a bearer put in his place by his master, his face full of tears, his neck bearing the marks of having just been strangled half to death.
Well, that had worked out in a way, Riordan thought, his mind now clear. Although not having control over his actions like that scared him a little. So, he was possessive when it came to Xana. But hadn't he been the one with the plan in the first place? Why act like such a crazy idiot? He shook his head and took a deep breath.
Xana hadn't given him enough seth to not feel a thing, so now he hurt in places. His mouth was bruised, his ass ached, and his neck throbbed as if that muscular tail was still there, cutting his air supply off.
He limped out of the storage room. Damn, he was going to be the talk of the ship again. But what was new? As long as it served the purpose. And he still needed to find Kyle and hope that the bot's memory about that incident involving the traitors hadn't been reshaped by Marn's conclusions.
The various pains in his body were starting to recede, but they were still there, so there were plenty of strange looks thrown his way. The good thing was that no one dared to laugh at him like earlier. That must have been Jasno's posse, so maybe those guys thought they could get away with everything. Others were more cautious when it came to sticking their noses where they didn't belong.
Kyle was now in charge of the security of the ship, which meant that he could be... practically anywhere. Could he just ask around? After all, the bot was an old friend, and if he just asked, for instance, Marn's guards about it, would they be able to tell him the bot's whereabouts?
Well, it looked like he didn't need to worry about getting there. Two lizard guards that looked pretty damn familiar stopped in front of him.
"His Royal Chancellor demands to see you, Riordan Lei."
"Okay," Riordan said. "Lead the way. But don't walk too fast. I'm a tiny bit indisposed."
He hobbled after the guards that seemed to take his request at face value and didn't hurry. And still, everyone was gawking at him, because he was the hottest piece of news in ages.
Marn inspected him with his eyes so slowly that Riordan was starting to wonder if time stood still.
"You wanted to see me?" he asked.
"Who did this to you?"
"You know who did. Don't tell me something happens on this ship that you don't know about," Riordan replied. He needed a rest. Without the seth, sex with Xana would probably feel like this all the time. Thank fuck for the seth. Not only his neck felt tender, but his ass too.
"Let me see you."
It wasn't like Marn was asking. Riordan was out of his robe in seconds while the big kahuna took his time to feel him everywhere. The stern expression on the alien face gave him the willies a little. Maybe he and Xana had gone a little too far with their dangerous game. Not that he had really playacted earlier; there had been nothing fake in his jealousy attack. And that scared the hell out of him.
He let out a soft whimper as Marn began licking his neck, making the pain recede.
"I hope you're not going to lick my ass too," he said quietly.
"No. I have means to take care of you that don't involve such measures," Marn replied.
It was some discomfort at first as Marn put his tail inside him, but soon he could breathe freely, and there was nothing aching anymore in his entire body.
"I'm good now," he said. "Thank you."
Marn nodded shortly and then moved away, while Riordan put back his robe.
"How did you manage to bring this on yourself?" Marn asked.
It was easier to guard his thoughts when daddy-in-law tried to probe him, Riordan realized. Marn's scrutinizing eyes were hard to face.
"I got jealous like an idiot." At least, that wasn't a lie.
Marn nodded shortly. "I see. Your bond has grown stronger. You are feeling it in full effect. Which begs the question, of course." Riordan started as Marn got right in his face. "How can Xana bear being away from you, when this sort of attachment must work both ways?"
Oh, shit. Riordan squirmed but couldn't pull his eyes away from Marn's hypnotic gaze.
"What are you up to again, you troublesome Earthian?"
