THE GUITARIST
My first story on Nifty for a while. Hope you enjoy it. There isn't a whole lot of 'action' in this chapter, but stuff will happen in the future.
As usual, if you are too young to be reading this then don't. The characters are figments of my imagination and any resemblance to real people is just a freaky coincidence.
"Oh Jesus BE CAREFUL!"
I heard a huge crash followed by another, then total silence.
"Well fuck," I heard someone say in a defeated voice.
"There will be less of that language Mr Daniels, I'm sure you can fix it." That sounded like Mr Thomas, the music teacher.
I reached the door to the music room to see a group of people gathered round what looked like a very broken guitar amplifier.
"Good job you moron, if I can't fix this then you're the one paying the repair bill."
Now that I was in the room I recognised the voice as that of Jeremy Daniels. He was one of the better-known musicians in the school. He played a mean electric guitar and was part of the school cover band that often took part in the Battle of the Bands contests. I'd noticed him a while ago when I started taking the advanced art course my school offered. The lack of money for the school meant that the music and art rooms were both housed in the old theatre, which got pretty annoying when you were trying to concentrate and you had the first year cello players taking their lessons. Talk about cats being murdered, it often sounds like the entire feline population is being fed through a grinder.
Perhaps I should take a second to introduce myself. I'm Jacob Jennings, but if you call me Jacob then you'll learn very fast how much I hate it. I'm Jake to everyone, only my grandma calls me Jacob. And I've heard just about every J.J. joke there is. There are maybe 2 or 3 people who can call me Jay-Jay, the rest of you call me Jake. Name issues aside I'm a pretty down to earth guy. I'm 16, currently in high school, and I've been drawing since I can remember. I'm about 5ft 10" with shoulder length dirty blonde hair and blue eyes. I have a pretty even build, and I've been working out a lot lately so I'm starting to get the makings of a pretty good six-pack.
"Dude, I'm really sorry, I just didn't expect it to be so heavy." It sounded like Michael, the school idiot, had been trying to lend a hand.
"Well that's why I told you to wait until I'd put my guitar away, why do you think I wheel it in on 2 skateboards every morning?" Jeremy looked really pissed off, but no mood could ever take away how hot he is.
It's funny seeing him wheel his amp in every Tuesday and Wednesday. I remember he brought 2 old skateboards in to the shop room a few months ago and screwed a couple of braces in between to make a sort of 'trolley' that he could wheel stuff around on.
The crowd around the amp disaster had moved on and Michael was standing there unsure what to do. He started to bend down to help pick up some of the parts, but Jeremy quickly sent him away. I looked around to see if anyone else was going to help but they all seemed too preoccupied in getting out for lunch. I put my bag at my art desk and walked over to give him a hand. "Hey Jeremy," I said, hoping that my voice wouldn't crack. It always does when I'm nervous.
"Hey. Jake right?" He looked up at me with those green eyes and my mind totally blanked.
"Uh. yeah Jake, right. You need a hand?" Real smooth. Of course he needed a hand.
"If you don't mind. Can you try and find a box or a container that I can put these loose bits in? I don't want to lose anything." He was making a small pile by his feet. I could see a couple of knobs and some weird glass things. I went over to Mr Thomas's desk and found an old cardboard box.
"Thanks man. This is going to be a bitch to fix." He said.
I looked at the scattered mess around him and was impressed that he was going to try and fix this himself. At the moment it didn't even look recognisable as an amplifier, just a big mess.
"You can fix this yourself?" I asked, trying to make conversation.
"I've been taking guitars and amplifiers apart since I started playing. I've taken this one apart more times than I can remember, but it's never been busted up like this before," he sounded upset as he started gathering up the loose parts. He was extra careful with those glass pods.
"What are those anyway?" I asked, pointed at the glass objects.
"These? These are tubes. Complicated to explain, but if anyone ever asks you which is better, tube or solid state, ALWAYS say tube ok?" He looked deadly serious as he said it.
"Uh, ok." I nodded pretending to know what he was talking about. As I said it he broke out in to a big smile, showing off his perfect teeth.
"I'm just messing man. It's one of those preference things."
I nodded again, still not totally sure what he was talking about.
"So are you going to keep standing there or are you going to help me pick all this up?"
I realised I'd just been standing there this entire time. I picked up the case and the front panel of the amp, which looked like it had been ripped off the front totally. I held it up to show to him and he just sighed.
"Can you help me carry this to my car?" He asked. "Unless you've got somewhere you need to be."
"Sure no problem, I only came in here to pick up my folder, I don't have any more classes today," I told him.
"Awesome, I'll just get my bag. I can give you a ride home too if you want, you only live a couple of streets down right?" He asked.
"Uh yeah," I stammered. My heart was pounding at the thought of spending some extra time with him. I had to tell myself to cool down; I didn't want to let him know I was gay just yet. He might just walk off and start telling people which I did NOT want to happen.
I grabbed my bag and my art folder from the cupboard at the back of the room and then went back to the music section. He had gathered up the rest of the loose parts and had brought his skateboard-wagon as well. We each took hold of one side of the amp and lifted it on. He handed me the cardboard box and started wheeling the amp out towards the exit.
"Doesn't it get annoying having to take this around all the time?" I asked him. Even though it was on wheels it still looked difficult to control.
"It's a bitch sometimes. I have a smaller one at home but it's just a practice amp. It's too quiet at practice. FUCK." He had just hit a wall. He looked around to make sure no one had seen and then pulled the amp back, revealing the hole he'd just made in the wall. He looked at me and started laughing, and he pushed the amp faster towards the exit.
We reached the parking-lot and he headed towards an old, beat up station wagon.
"Yeah I know," he said. "It's a piece of shit but it gets me around."
"Man, I'd be glad just to have a car. I didn't know you had your license already."
"Well technically I don't, I'm supposed to have my mom with me whenever I drive but she works hard and I'm always careful anyway. The worst they can do is impound the car if I get stopped.
I couldn't believe it when he told me this. All my life I've stuck by the rules and acted like the goody two shoes. Any sort of rule breaking flusters me, but I'm working on easing up. Seemed like now was as good a time as any to let up. I helped him load the amp in to the back and then got in the passenger seat.
He kept asking me questions about my art work on the way home. I guess sharing the same room at school meant he saw my work a lot. He seemed interested but I didn't know if he was being polite. After a while he got pretty quiet and just concentrated on driving.
"Hey do you have any plans this afternoon?" He asked, as we were nearing my place.
"Nope, unless watching TV counts," I said.
"Well you know, TV is serious business. You want to come back to mine and hang out?" He looked at me briefly as he asked.
Oh shit. Hot guy asked me round to his house. Ok, keep it cool.
"Yeah ok, if you don't mind." I cringed as I said it. If he minded he wouldn't have asked.
"No problem. It'll be nice to have some company for once," he sounded kind of down as he said the last part.
"You don't normally have people round?" I asked.
"Not really. The guys in the band are jerks, and I don't really socialise much at school. Usually I just spend all afternoon playing my guitar or watching TV," He said.
I couldn't believe that. He was a pretty popular guy at school and here he was telling me he had no friends. I made up my mind there and then to make it my mission to be as friendly as I could whenever I saw him at school.
He backed in to his driveway and got out and opened the garage. Inside was a pretty messy workshop. I saw a couple of guitars in pieces and a whole bunch of tools.
"Wow, is this all yours?" I asked, looking round.
"Yeah, this is where I spend most of my time. My grandma died a couple of months ago and left me some money, so I bought myself some tools and set myself up a workshop. It's pretty neat." He was smiling as he told me, I could tell he was pretty proud of what he had here.
I helped him unload the amplifier and we lifted it on to a large workbench, then he took me inside through a door in the side of the garage. We stepped in to the whitest kitchen I've ever seen. Everything was white, it was almost blinding.
"Yeah, my mom has a think about white. The most colourful place in the house is probably my room. I'll show you."
He grabbed a couple of cokes from the fridge and took me upstairs. He opened his door and just like the garage, it was a mess. There was his bed on one side, a small sofa on the other and leaned up against the far wall were a couple of guitars and a much smaller amplifier. There were posters of different rock bands covering the walls. His favorite seemed to be Guns N Roses. I counted at least 4 different posters of them. The rest of the room was covered in clothes or books. I tried not to stare but he caught me.
"Haha, dude this is nothing compared to how it normally is," he laughed. He grabbed a bunch of books off the sofa and threw them on the floor, motioned for me to sit down and then went over to his stereo.
"You like Guns 'N' Roses?" He asked.
"Yeah sure, whatever," again, I cringed as I said that.
He put the CD in and Welcome to the Jungle started. He picked up a guitar and sat on his bed, and started strumming along with the song. He was pretty good, but it sounded weird without the amp on.
We started making small talk, talking about other music we liked and movies. It turns out we liked the same sort of music. Mostly 80s rock but nothing too heavy. We both liked comedy films as well. It started to depress me slightly when I realised how perfect we were for each, yet how we'd never be able to be together. At times like this I hate being gay.
Pretty soon the subject turned to sex. I always dreaded these conversations with straight guys, as I had to try hard to be convincing. He told me he'd only been with one girl, and I told him I was still a virgin. He seemed surprised but didn't press the issue.
"No dude that's cool, it's all so hyped anyway," he said, still strumming away on the guitar.
"Yeah I know. I'm just waiting for the right guy and-" I suddenly froze as I realised what I'd said.
He snapped his head up and looked at me a second and said "What?"
"I have to go," I suddenly said. I grabbed my bag and ran out of his house, and didn't stop running till I got home. I locked the door behind me, ran down to the basement to my room and hid my head under a pillow, hoping I'd be able to fall asleep and not wake up.
I woke up a couple of hours later to the sound of the phone ringing. I had a headache I thought was going to tear my head apart, so I just laid there and let the machine pick up.
"Jake it's mom are you there? Jake? Ok listen sweetie I have to stay late at the office tonight. I just got signed on to a new case that's going to trial tomorrow so I have a lot of prep work to do. There's some money in the jar in my room, order a pizza. I love you honey."
Great. I was really hoping to talk to my mom. She knows I'm gay and is cool about it. I didn't want to be by myself but the only other person I could call, my best friend Lisi, was out of town.
I looked over at the clock and saw it was just after 5. I heard the doorbell ring but I really didn't want to go up and see who it was. It rang again and then again. A couple of minutes later I heard something slip through the door and then a car drove off.
I went upstairs to investigate and saw a slip of paper on the doormat.
"Jake, you left this at my place. Please call me or message me I want to talk"
I saw through the window that he'd left my art folder leaning against the porch. I opened the door and brought it in. I didn't want to lose it.
I looked back at the note and saw that he'd left his cell phone number and his instant messenger screen name. I stood staring at it for another minute then went in to the kitchen. I grabbed a coke and headed downstairs to my room, turning my computer on when I got there.
I realised how hot it was so I opened the small window at the back of the room, and turned my fan on.
"You have new messages!" I heard my computer announce. I love how it logs on to the internet as soon as it turned on, the days of dialup are like a forgotten nightmare.
There were 3 new messages. One from my mom telling me to check the answering machine (she totally worries about me), one from an artists mailing list I'm signed up to and one from my friend Lisi who I mentioned before. Lisi is the first person I ever came out to, she's been my friend since we were 4. She won first place in an art contest last month and the prize was $1000 and her work would be put in to a display at a museum in New York for a week. She'd flown up there with her Dad last week, she was scheduled to be back in a couple of days.
"Hey Jay-jay! What's up? Dad is going crazy here, he's so bored. I'm having a blast though, I really wish you had won as well. You'd have a great time. I've had 3 people try to buy my paintings but in shock I turned them down, I wish I'd taken whatever they offered me! Anyway I'm just checking in, message me back if you want but I might not see it till I get back. I can't get online regularly from here."
I smiled as I read the email. She is so enthusiastic about her artwork, she deserved to win first place. I had entered too but I hadn't bothered to put in a lot of effort. I don't know why, the contest just didn't sound too appealing. I've never been one to display my art; it's more of a personal thing.
I quickly checked the email from the mailing list, but it was just an update on local art conventions. I typed out a message to my mom telling her I was sleeping when she called and that I'd leave some pizza for her. This was a joke, as my mom is a total health nut and hates takeaway pizzas. I thought she might appreciate a joke if she was busy.
I glanced down and saw the note Jeremy had left and I felt butterflies. I opened up AIM and let it log in. I entered his screen name and saw he was online. He must have logged on as soon as he got back.
ME: Hey HIM: Jake? ME: Yeah HIM: Dude about earlier. You didn't need to leave you know ME: I didn't think you'd want to hang out with a fag HIM: Well. I didn't think you would either
I stared at that line for a second not fully understanding. Was he saying that he is gay too?
ME: Huh? HIM: I'm gay too. All that stuff before about the girl I slept with, it was just a cover
Again I just stared.
HIM: Well say something ME: Sorry, that just caught me a bit off guard. This isn't a joke or something is it? HIM: No, I'm totally serious. If I was setting you up for a joke I wouldn't have come back with your folder or stood on your doorstep for 10 minutes :-P
I smiled at that, he was right.
ME: Sooo. I feel kinda dumb now HIM: Don't, I would have acted the same way. Listen can I phone you? I hate typing ME: Sure
I typed out my phone number and less than 10 seconds later the phone was ringing.
"That was fast," I said with a smile as I picked up.
"Yeah, I just wanted to make sure you were ok," he said.
"I'm ok, really. I just have a headache," I told him.
"So I guess coming to my concert tonight isn't an option then?" He sounded a bit disappointed.
"What? No! I'd love to come. I've never seen you play before. What time?"
"Well it starts at 8. I can give you a ride if you want, but I have to be there at 7. I could find something for you to do as long as you promise not to drop my amplifier," he laughed as he said that. Even his laugh was sexy.
"Well sure! Ok." I looked over at the clock and saw it was 5:30. That gave me time to take some aspirin and have a shower.
"Ok cool. I was wondering if I could maybe come over now? My car is already loaded up," he said.
"Oh ok. I need to have a shower first but you can hang out in my room and play some playstation or something."
"Sure you don't need a hand in the shower?" He asked.
I froze totally. This was the first time anyone had ever hit on me, whether he was joking or not.
"I'm just kidding man. maybe," he said, and hung up before I could say anything.
As I put the phone down I noticed my dick had decided to wake up. Oh great. I couldn't answer the door with a boner and there was no way it was going to subside before he got here. I checked my room to make sure that it wasn't too messy, then suddenly remembered the mess in his room and realised that he wouldn't care about the 2 books and pair of socks on my floor.
I heard a car pull up and a second later the doorbell rang. I looked down and saw my dick still making a bulge in my trousers. I hadn't jerked off for a while and it was screaming for some attention. I grabbed a towel on the way upstairs that I could hold in front of me and not give anything away.
I answered the door and he stood there looking kind of nervous. He had got changed since earlier and was wearing blue jeans, a black t-shirt, and this bright orange over shirt.
"It's my good luck shirt," he told me when he saw me staring at it.
"Oh. cool. Listen, there are some cokes in the fridge and my room is through that door down the stairs," I told him.
"In the basement? You live in the basement? That's so cool," he seemed impressed, I don't know why.
I headed upstairs to the bathroom and locked the door. I started the shower and stripped off. My cock was still so hard it was almost painful. I spat on my hand and rubbed it a couple of times. Almost instantly pre-cum started oozing out the tip. I was so horny, I really needed to get off right now. I thought back to what Jeremy had said about giving me a hand and it made me even hotter. I opened up the medicine cabinet and grabbed the pot of Vaseline my mom keeps for when her lips get dry. I have a feeling she suspects what I use it for but she's never said anything. I slowly worked some on to my finger and then reached back and rubbed around my hole.
I rubbed a little more Vaseline in to my ass and then slowly worked my finger up there. Fuck I was so ready to blow. I bent over slightly to make it easier to work my finger in and out of my ass. I slowly worked it in and out, rubbing my prostate as I went. I spat on my hand again and rubbed my cock slowly. I moaned quietly to myself and more pre-cum started leaking out the head of my cock. I started to work another finger in to my ass and winced slightly. It was a while since I had done this so I was pretty tight. I started working my hand up and down my cock faster and moved my fingers in and out a little faster too.
I started to feel that tightening sensation from the depths of my stomach and it slowly spread out through my body. I jerked my cock a couple more times then thrust my fingers up my ass as far as I could get them, making sure they pressed against my prostate. That was enough to send me over the edge.
My ass tightened as a thick shot of cum erupted from the tip of my cock.
"Oh fuuuck," I moaned to myself quietly. If I was by myself I would have been a lot louder but I didn't want Jeremy to know what I was up to.
Another shot of cum flew from my cock and hit the shower door. I grunted and moaned a couple more times as my orgasm subsided. I twitched my fingers up my ass a couple more times and gave my cock a few last tugs to get the last of the cum out.
I took my fingers out of my ass and ran them under the tap for a minute. I looked over and saw the mess I had made on the shower door. I had shot a lot, I always do when I have something up my ass, plus it had been a couple of days since I last jerked off.
I cleaned up with some toilet roll and quickly jumped in the shower. I looked at my watch and saw it was 6, I'd spent about 10 minutes jerking off, Jeremy would be expecting me back down any minute.
I just wet my hair and cleaned my cock and my ass properly. It'd look kind of suspicious if I came down from a shower without wet hair.
I dried off quick and realised I hadn't brought any clean clothes up with me. Fuck. I quickly pulled on the pants I had been wearing before I ran down to my room to get some fresh clothes. It wasn't on purpose that I didn't put my t-shirt back on, but I realised as I was heading to my room that Jeremy might think I'm trying to get him hot. Not that that's a bad thing, but it wasn't my intention.
I walked in to my room and saw him playing on my playstation. He looked over and his eyes widened when he saw I was wearing no top. I pretended not to notice and grabbed some clean clothes from my dresser.
"I'll be back in a second," I told him as I headed to the toilet built next to my room. I pleaded with my mom to have a shower put in there as well so I wouldn't have to climb 2 flights of stairs every time I wanted a shower, but she wouldn't do it. I had a sink and a mirror in there so it was ok to get a quick wash and a shave in the morning, but I really wanted a shower in there as well.
I emerged a couple of minutes later wearing clean clothes.
I went and sat next to him on the bed and watched him play.
"Were you able to fix your amplifier? It looked pretty beat up."
"Yeah it was easy. All that had really happened was anything that wasn't screwed down had come off. Nothing was really broken, it just needed putting back together," he told me, not taking his eyes off the TV.
It was quiet for a couple of minutes, and then he spoke up.
"I was thinking after the concert, do you maybe want to go and get some food?" He asked, stammering slightly.
"What, you mean like a date?" I asked, hoping that that was what he meant.
"Uh.. Yeah," he said. It was strange seeing him nervous, whenever I'd seen him at school he always looked really calm.
"I'd like that," I said
He seemed to relax when I said that and he carried on playing the game. I brushed my hair and found some shoes to put on and dug my jacket out from under a pile of clothes.
"It's 6:30, should we be going now?" I asked.
"Yeah I guess."
He turned the playstation off and we headed upstairs. I set the alarm and locked the door as he started the car up.
I was smiling as we headed towards the school. Earlier I wanted to die and now I was happier than I had been in a long time.
