The Golden Boys

Chapter One

Introductions

Bob Spangler "celebrated" his sixtieth birthday by burying his partner, Ron. They had been a committed couple for thirty-seven years. Bob met Ron when he was twenty-three, at a Memorial Day barbeque in the home of a mutual friend. Ron was thirty-five, but he was fit, hale and hearty and didn't look much older than Bob. In fact, he was always healthier than Bob, who had begun to develop arthritis, and had an irregular heart beat. That's why it was such a shock for Bob, when he came home from work one day, and found Ron sprawled out on the kitchen floor, dead of a massive heart attack.

Bob and Ron owned a four bedroom, Victorian-style home, appropriately located in Victoria Park, a section of Ft. Lauderdale. At first, Bob considered selling the house, and moving to a small condo, which would be so much more affordable. But he hated the thought of leaving this house, which held so many wonderful memories of his life with Ron.

Unfortunately, after a few months, he realized that he was eating up all of Ron's insurance money just paying the utility bills on the old house. The annual real estate tax and insurance bills hadn't even come in yet, and they were both going to be very hefty. The need to sell was becoming more and more necessary, but he kept putting off making a decision.

One evening he was surfing through the television channels when he happened on a re-run of `The Golden Girls.' It had always been one of his favorite shows. The pilot episode was on the air at that time. It showed how the three women got together. It was long before Dorothy's mother, Sophia, moved in with them.

He was suddenly hit with the idea of renting two of the other three bedrooms to two other men, preferably around his age. He would keep the third as a guest-room in the event that any of them ever had company. That would solve two problems; his financial burden, and his growing loneliness.

The three bedrooms available for rental were slightly smaller than the master bedroom, and the two tenants would have to share a bathroom. The master bedroom had its own bathroom. Two of the available rooms faced the back yard which had a good-sized swimming pool and a covered patio. The area surrounding the pool and patio was heavily treed and very private. Bob decided to rent those two rooms. The third faced the street, but as a prospective spare room, it would serve the purpose just fine.

Bob figured that his shortfall was about $1200.00 a month. He had a friend who was a realtor. John Ferris was dying to list this classic house, but when Bob insisted it wasn't for sale, he stopped bugging him. He advised Bob that he could easily get $750 a month for each room, in such a beautiful setting, and in such a choice neighborhood. Bob decided to list the rooms for $800 a month, and if anyone haggled, he'd come down to $750. Checking the classified ads, he found that rooms in his neighborhood were being put out for rent at upward of $950.00. He felt secure that he was asking a fair price for the rentals.

He prepared an ad and placed it in the South Florida Gay News. By placing it in a gay publication, he was making it clear that he preferred gay tenants, without having to specify that in his ad, and risk being discriminatory. He was also afraid to mention gender in these days of political correctness, so he made sure that he used his full masculine name in the ad, so anyone answering it would know that the lessor was a man. The ad read:

Victoria Park: Furnished rooms for rent in charming, stately, early twentieth century Victorian house. Private back yard, swimming pool, patio with built in barbeque, full access to the entire common areas of the house.

He was going to add next, $800 a month, but on reading the ad, it sounded so appealing he wrote:

$850.00 a month. Call Robert Spangler at 954-555-1040, evenings after 5:30.

In all, he received four calls during the week that the ad ran. He set up four interviews at two hour intervals on Saturday, when he didn't have to go to work. The first was at 10 AM with Darryl Hastings.

The two men liked each other immediately. Darryl was fifty-eight, and had just left an abusive marriage. He had given his wife too much of his assets in order to gain freedom. He was unable to afford a place of his own or even to pay an exorbitant rent, so he was willing to settle for a single room. But this ad convinced him that he could keep his expenses down and still live in a house. The clincher was that he would have house mates. He admitted that he was lonely, especially since he didn't have many friends yet in the gay community.

After his divorce, he decided that it was time to come out. He was tired of sneaking around behind his ex-wife's back. He even asked Bob to help orient him to what the gay community had to offer. Bob thought that he could not ask for a better tenant. Darryl didn't even balk at the rent. Bob decided to rent to him. The two men signed a one year lease which was boiler plated by Bob's friend, John. Darryl gave Bob a check for security and first month's rent.

The rent covered the room and all utilities. Even though Darryl was responsible for purchasing his own food, the two men agreed to shop together and share the expense. They sensed that they would become good friends. Darryl even hoped they would become more than friends. He was very attracted to Bob. When they admitted to each other that they both preferred nudity around the house, Darryl became even more excited. As for Bob, he was not yet ready to even think about a new relationship. Darryl's proposed move in date was the first day of September, less than a week away. He actually moved in earlier. He brought only his clothes. He had nothing else.

In spite of all his hints, the next person to come for an interview was a woman, a straight woman at that. She too was a recent widow. Her husband left her with nothing but debt. She figured that a room in a "boarding house" would be ideal for her.

"How did you find out about this ad?" Bob asked. "I only advertised in a gay newspaper."

"I didn't know that," the woman said. "When I was with my husband, we lived next door to a gay couple. One of them gave me your name and telephone number when I told him I needed to find an affordable place to live." She told Bob his name. It was someone he knew casually.

He told the woman that he had already rented to a gay man, and felt that neither he nor his tenant would be comfortable with a woman in the house. He hoped she would understand. They thanked each other for giving of their time, and the lady left.

The next appointment turned out to be a twenty year old student. When Bob told him the ages of the other inhabitants of the house, he thanked Bob and left politely, but hastily. Before the final appointment arrived, Bob received a call from Darryl.

"Are you free for dinner?" Darryl asked hopefully. "It's my treat and it would be a great chance for us to get better acquainted." Bob accepted immediately. He couldn't bear the thought of another lonely night.

"Why don't you come over now? I'm expecting another prospective tenant in an hour. Interview him with me. After all, we three should all be compatible."

"That's a great idea. I'll be right over."

When Darryl arrived, Bob was greeted by a hug and a kiss on the cheek. He was surprised, but he had to admit to himself that it felt really good to be hugged again. They had a cup of coffee together, and the door bell rang promptly at 4 PM.

Jack Rosen came in and Bob and Darryl had to smile. The man was short, about 5' 7" and a bit on the plump side, but he was as cute as a puppy. He had curly, sandy blond hair, a pug nose, red cheeks and a smile from here to California. He stuck out his hand and Bob took it.

"I'm Jack Rosen," he said, "but everyone calls me Rosie."

"I'm Bob Spangler, and this is Darryl Hastings. Darryl just rented the other room, so let me show you what's left."

"I know I'll love it," Rosie said.

"Tell us about yourself," Darryl requested.

"There's not much to tell. I'm fifty-two years young, and I teach elementary school math. Early this year, my partner of twenty-two years walked out on me and moved in with a twinkie." Rosie paused and sighed. "Twenty-two years and he throws it all away. Can you imagine?"

Bob and Darryl shook their heads in mock sadness. Rosie's story was not new to either of them.

Rosie smiled. "Anyway, I decided to make a new start. I had often vacationed here and loved it, so I moved down from New York City. I got a teaching position in Ft. Lauderdale, and I start after Labor Day. School has actually been on for a couple of weeks, but lucky for me, one of the teachers is leaving because her husband was transferred to California. You see, I need a place to live, and your ad sounded perfect. I can walk to work."

Rosie's smile and his enthusiasm were infectious. Without even consulting with Darryl, Bob and Rosie shook hands. Rosie agreed to the same terms as Darryl. He signed the same lease and gave Bob a check. The three men shook hands. Bob was a happy camper. This month's expenses were more than covered.

Bob went over to a drawer in the kitchen and retrieved two keys. He gave each man a key to the front door. "Hell," he said, "you guys might as well start moving in at your leisure."

"Bob and I are going out to dinner together to get better acquainted. Are you free to join us?" Darryl asked.

"Yes, it'll be a pleasure."

"It's early yet," Bob said. "Would you guys like a pre-dinner cocktail?" Both men nodded enthusiastically and were happy to learn that they all preferred gin and tonic. It was over cocktails that Darryl remarked casually about his and Bob's agreement that nudity was all right around the house.

"Is that OK with you?" he asked Rosie. Rosie smiled and started to laugh.

"My son-of-a-bitch ex and I never wore clothes in the house. Yes, thank you very much, I'd like that fine."

Bob and Darryl were to find out later on why Rosie was so enthusiastic about nudity. He didn't have the longest cock they had ever seen, but it was most certainly the fattest. He was cut, and both their mouths watered when they eventually saw it.

At dinner, Bob was convinced that he had made the right decision. The three of them got on like three very old friends. As they shook hands to say goodnight, Bob said, "Hell fellas, the next few days are on me. Please move in as soon as possible."

Two days later Rosie and Darryl were all moved in, and the trio sat down to their first meal together. It turned out that Rosie had a passion for cooking, so he prepared a great meal of roast beef, mashed potatoes, green beans, dinner rolls and red wine. Bob set the table, and found himself humming. Darryl made coffee after the meal, and he served it with a delicious coffee cake. His lonely days were over. They all pitched in cleaning up.

When the kitchen was ship shape, they decided to watch TV for a while in the living room. They each had a TV set in their bedrooms, but they were thoroughly enjoying this camaraderie and were reluctant to see it end. Rosie excused himself for a moment, and went into his room. When he came out seconds later, he was butt naked. Darryl and Bob laughed, ran to their rooms and stripped.

Of course, they checked each other out. Darryl and Bob were uncut, about four inches flaccid, and only they knew how long when erect. Rosie was cut, about four and a half inches flaccid, and very hefty. Darryl wondered how much his cock weighed.

Rosie knew no shame. "In case you were wondering," he said. "It gets up to about six and a half when I'm hard, which hasn't happened much lately except when I whack off. Even then it doesn't get as hard as when I'm having passionate sex, which also hasn't happened much lately."

Darryl thought that he would like to remedy that immediately, but he kept quiet. Bob just looked away with a tear in his eye. Every time he had a carnal thought, he was overcome with guilt, believing that he was being unfaithful to Ron's memory. It would be a long time before he would get over it.

They started to talk. Basically the conversation was all about how happy they all were that they had met. They talked far into the evening until Bob excused himself to go to bed. They never did turn on the TV set.

Darryl and Rosie found themselves alone in the living room. Darryl had been sitting in an easy chair, but now he joined Rosie on the sofa. He put his hand on Rosie's knee and said. "You're a great guy, Rosie. I'm glad we met, and I hope we'll be great friends." Rosie just smiled at him, and Darryl's hand moved farther up Rosie's leg.

"You know," Rosie said, "I was going to whack off tonight when I went to bed. It would be great if you helped me."

"I wouldn't mind a little help myself," Darryl said. "Let's go sit by the pool for a while."

They went out the back door hand in hand, and sat down at pool side. Rosie's hand reached over and wrapped around Darryl's very hard cock. Darryl reached over and engulfed Rosie's even harder rod. Darryl gasped. He had never held such a fat cock in his life. Then again, he hadn't held very many, having been married for so many years.

They began to stroke, and as their passion increased they turned to each other and kissed with open mouths and dueling tongues. They both instinctively knew that in the future they would do more, much more, but for now, they were content to masturbate each other.

There were some towels on a table near the pool. Darryl took one, and cleaned the cum off both of them. Then they took a dip in the pool and really washed up. They never told each other, but they both felt guilty that they left Bob out.

They sat at the pool for another long while just kissing and fondling each other, and then they went to their separate beds.

To be continued...
