The Four Elements
Chapter 3: Allies and Enemies
Viath stared at the glaring sun, he usually did not conduct his business in the daytime, but this assignment had been deemed high priority, waiting for nightfall was just not an option. He had conducted his normal research for a target, birth records, social security, home address, phone numbers, and all the standard things one could find out about anyone in this marvelous computer age. The first step as always, was to go to the domicile of the target, and search for any other information of a more personal nature. When he arrived at the target's address, he was none to pleased to see a police car parked in the apartment parking lot. Perhaps the officer was a resident of this place as well, if not, well...
His first stop was the main office, where he procured a key to the apartment. It was rather easy, seeing as he had all the necessary documents, afforded him by his research. This method was much easier than breaking down the door, or picking it, and it gave him an air of authority if anything "unpleasant" should occur. He made his way to the apartment in question, inserted the key, and opened the door. As he suspected, a police officer was there to greet him.
"Kaylon, I'm glad your ok. We have to go down to the station so you can answer some questions." The police officer obviously thought that Viath was this Kaylon.
"Questions about what?" Viath played along, it was not often that answers fell into his lap.
"About what happened the other night. It's very important, we must leave immediately."
Viath lashed his hand out at the officer's throat, quickly crushing his windpipe. The officer fell to the floor, gasping for air. It was obvious he knew nothing. Viath tore open the officer's shirt, finding a small red medallion around his neck. As he suspected, it was an agent of the vampires, this was becoming very intriguing, what would the vampires want with this person?
His search of the apartment turned up very little. This Kaylon seemed to be an average person, nothing special at all. He did however find a phone number for someone by the name of Caron, perhaps he could acquire more information from this person. He picked up his cell phone, and dialed one of his contacts. Relaying the phone number, he got exactly what he was looking for, an address. He grinned, this was almost too easy. A slight movement caught his eye, he turned to find the source of the movement, but nothing was there. His mind probed, searching for a presence, something was here, but it was elusive. Perhaps this would not be so easy? He left the body of the officer where it was, locking the door behind him.
Kaylon stood in a grand hallway, with great pillars rising along the length of the passage. At one end, stood a giant statue of a dragon, carved entirely out of a deep blue gemstone. There was a figure that stood at the base of the statue. Kaylon started running towards him, but try as he might, he could not seem to get any closer. The figure came to him, and knelt before him.
"What is this place?" Kaylon whispered.
The figure stood "In reality, this is a dream, in your dream, this is your sactuary." The voice echoed throughout the room.
"What does that mean?"
"It means exactly what it says." The figured replied.
"Who are you?"
"It is of no concern now, you must find him."
"Find who?" Kaylon was confused.
"Him, the one, your only one."
"But who?"
"You must find him, before the other does, you must find him, or the world will suffer the same fate that chokes the very essence from it now." The figure faded from view.
"Who am I supposed to find?" Kaylon screamed.
The walls began to fade, the pillars blinked from existence, and the statue remained, in a room full of darkness. It's eyes glowed the deepest blue ever.
Kaylon heard his own voice ring in his mind. "Vengeance will be mine."
Kaylon sat up, waking from his nightmare. He was safe on Caron's couch, but what was that dream? What did it mean? He heard Caron bumbling about the kitchen, obviously making some sort of food. So he pulled himself off the couch, and went in to see what was cooking. As usual, it was Eggo Waffles. Caron really wasn't much of a cook. Caron handed him a plate full of them, and grabbed his own plate.
"Have a good sleep man?" Caron said between mouthfuls.
"Not really, I had this crazy ass dream." Exhaustion was in Kaylon's voice.
"Hey, I know you don't believe in this shit, but maybe my psychic is really good at figuring out dreams and shit."
"At this point, I'm willing to try anything."
"I'll go get her card, we can go together, cool?" Caron was almost in disbelief, Kaylon had never wanted to try the psychic stuff before.
"Yeah, sure."
Caron ran out of the room, and quickly returned, handing Kaylon a small business card.
"There ya go man, first we eat, then we go."
Caron tore into his food, while Kaylon, obviously bothered, just ate little bits. Caron was worried about his friend, hopefully his psychic would be able to help, but that's assuming Kaylon actually opened himself up to it. As the two sat quietly eating, they head the doorbell ring.
"Expecting company?" Kaylon queried Caron.
"No, its probably some silly Mormons or something, think I should go to the door naked?" Both laughed at the comment.
"Nah, just answer the door."
Caron got up from the table, and left the kitchen. When he opened the door, a man stood in the entryway. He was over 6 feet tall, wearing dark clothing, covered by a black leather trenchcoat.
"I am looking for Kaylon, is he here?" The stranger asked.
"Who are you?" Caron queried the man.
"Hey Caron, who is it?" Kaylon asked as he came out of the kitchen.
"Ah, so your Kaylon. You are to come with me now." The stranger tried to come further into the house.
"Not so fast buddy, I don't know who you are, so I think you should leave." Caron stated.
"My name is Viath, and I have little time for the likes of you." He grabbed Caron by the shirt, and hurled him across the room. Caron hit a wall, and fell to the floor, his neck making a sickening crack.
Kaylon rushed over to his friend. "Caron! Caron!" He shook his friend, attempting to wake him up, but this was not possible. Tears fell from his face, and onto the lifeless body of his friend.
"Now, come with me." Viath uttered.
Something welled up from within Kaylon, his entire body burned with hate and anger. He stood, and faced Viath, in his heart, he felt nothing but utter rage. Viath gave Kaylon a puzzled look, he felt something coming from Kaylon, something he couldn't identify. Kaylon's eyes began to glow, they glowed the deepest blue, it was as if the oceans themselves were behind Kaylon's eyes.
Kaylon lunged at Viath, with his fist directed at Viath's head. Viath easily dodged the fist, but was caught completely by surprise when Kaylon's leg spun around to hit him in his back. Viath was thrown nearly halfway across the room. "How could a mere human be this powerful?" He thought to himself.
"So, the little one has some fight in him." Viath chuckled, and got no response from Kaylon.
"Since you've proven yourself a worthy adversary, I can unleash everything that I am!" Viath laughed maniacally.
He stretched his arms above his head, and let out a powerful scream. His body enveloped itself in a golden light. His jacket tore away, and large wings stretched out from his back.
"Do you see know foolish mortal? You cannot stand against the might of an angel!"
Viath moved forward at incredible speed. His right fist flew at Kaylon's head, and was deflected by a simple brush of Kaylon's hand. He doubled over as Kaylon's fist pounded him in the stomach, and was once again sent hurtling across the room as Kaylon gave his hunched body a powerful kick. Viath smashed through the wall of the house, and out into the yard. He picked his pained body from the ground, and stood to face his assailant. Kaylon walked through the hole in the wall, his glowing eyes piercing Viath's very essence.
"What are you?" Viath screamed at Kaylon.
"I... I don't know." Kaylon uttered.
The two fighters threw themselves at each other. Viath threw a series of fast punches, each one Kaylon managed to completely avoid, it was as if Viath was fighting with air. Viath turned slightly to deliver a kick, and Kaylon avoided it, returning a kick to Viath. Kaylon's foot struck Viath in his left wing, completely smashing the bones within. Viath fell to the ground, grasping at his hurt wing. Kaylon reached a hand down to his broken opponent, and lifted him from the ground by his throat. He held the angel above him, and squeezed his hand, crushing Viath's throat. The lifeless body of the angel began to glow, and then quickly faded from view.
Kaylon fell to his knees in exhaustion. He didn't understand what just happened, this was too much for him. A white figure appeared before him, he looked at it, but he could not distinguish the face.
"Do not fear, your awakening has come." The figure spoke.
"What do you mean awakening? I don't understand what your saying." Kaylon's voice was filled with desperation.
"You have an ally in your journey now, your journey to find him. You will find him." The figure faded from view.
"What do you mean? Find who?" Kaylon screamed at the sky.
"What in the hell happened to my house?" A bewildered and alive Caron said through the hole in his house.
"Caron! Your alive!" Kaylon ran to Caron, grasping him in a tight hugs, with tears streaming down his face.
"Yeah, I'm alive bud. But seriously, what happened to my house?"
"You... Your neck... it was broken... You were dead... I killed him, I wanted to kill him... He's gone... I don't know what's happening." Kaylon managed to work out in between sobs.
"I'm ok Kaylon, I think we should go see that psychic now, there is some second level shit going on here."
A great red temple stood upon a lake of lava. All around the screams of thousands could be heard. On the drawbridge to the temple, a large red creature pounded its way into the castle. It stood over 8 feet tall, with large bat-like wings folded up on his back, and horns protruding from his head. It's clawed feet pounded along the marbled floor within the temple. The creature approached to large doors deep within the castle, and opened them, proceeding inside. Past the doors was a room filled with a deep red light. Urns lined the room, burning with an evil glow, and at the head of the room, stood a great red throne. Upon the throne sat a dark robed figure, with glowing red eyes shining from beneath the hood. The creature approached the figure.
"My lord, we have received word that Kaylon and Caron have been killed, and returned to life." The creature growled.
"This is an interesting turn, send a messenger to Him, offer our aid." The figure spoke.
"My lord, why must we intervene? This does not seem our concern."
"This matter concerns us all, and He is not as powerful as we are all told, he may need assistance. Send the messenger, and never question me again."
"Yes my Lord."
The great creature left the room, and the robed figure was left to ponder the news.
