"Raging through waking life will prove / loving dreams keep one youthful and free"
~ Will Oldham, 'No Match'
The first thing I heard was his snoring. For minutes I laid there in that wonderful gray place between unconsciousness and being awake. His snoring moved through it all, an uneven cadence that I found incredibly reassuring. I shifted slightly, feeling his hand lazily spread across my belly, holding me to him.
I didn't want to wake just yet, so I kept my eyes closed. The hairs of his body gently rubbed against my back as his chest softly rose and fell. His warm breath tickled my neck, and I had the sudden urge to disappear into his arms.
I turned onto my back, and his arm wrapped tighter against me as he inhaled deeply. A soft morning growl escaped him, and he pressed his face right below my ear and laid a wet kiss on my neck. "Good morning," he softly said.
I smiled, my eyes still shut as if opening them would break this wonderful spell I was under.
"Good morning," I grinned.
He lazily grunted, and gently pushed me over so that my back was against him as before. I felt the scratching of his beard as his lips planted another kiss, this time on the back of my neck. "You were amazing," he whispered.
His cock seemed to agree, as I felt it stirring against one of my ass checks. I shifted slightly, and he slowly humped at me for just a moment before it found its mark. I sighed as he pushed near effortlessly into my ass. His breathing grew heavy against my neck, and he slowly started massaging his cock in and out of my hole.
"Oh yeah. I could get used to this," he whispered.
I just moaned in response, letting him gently fuck me. His big hand draped over me deliberately caressed at my belly before moving down to my hard, wet member. I instinctively pushed forward into his hand, his fingers wrapped tight around my shaft. A rhythm soon emerged. He would stroke down on my cock as I pushed eagerly into it, then he'd grind his cock deep into me as I pushed back hungrily.
Milking my cock and prostate, it wasn't long before I felt that swell of orgasm begin to build. Lost in bliss I moaned, and before I knew it I was convulsing in orgasm. I felt my cum held back by his meaty grip, then ushered out as he'd run his hand up my shaft to my sensitive head, and back down again. My moans were then met with his grunts as I felt his cock harder inside me, and I found myself milking at his cock with my ass muscles. It felt like it went forever as those waves of pleasure hit both of us.
When it finally was over, we stayed like that for a moment, frozen in the perfect moment. That nice bliss came over us like the quiet falling of snow. I opened my eyes to see a number of long ropes of cum trailed from my cock to all over the bed. Wherever he had pointed my cock, seemed to be wet with my juices.
He nuzzled against my neck, as his hand gently coaxed the very last of my orgasm out. "Alka..." he softly spoke.
At the time I did not know what he meant by this, but then and there lost in bliss I quickly brushed my curiosity aside, and fell back asleep.
The second time I awoke, the sunlight came through the windows as a soft morning blue. Keevoh was gone, but the entire bed felt warm and his scent still lingered.
I pulled myself up, and yawning found my discarded clothes and went outside. The crisp, cool air greeted me outside. I felt nice against my sticky and sweaty body. Besides the waking sound of birds and insects, I could just make out the sound of running water behind the cabin.
I followed the sound and found a creek. It was hardly deep enough, so I followed it. My instinct paid off, as after a short hike the creek dumped into a river. It looked to be fairly deep. I removed my clothes, and stepped into it.
The way in which the water rushed around my legs should have been warning enough, but glowing from the night before I felt invincible. I waded out into the water, feeling the sweat and trials of the previous days wash away. The current was fairly strong, and floating I let it take me. It was not long after I realized the current was picking up, and further down I could see white water breaking against visible rocks. I tried to swim to shore but this proved to be useless. The first rock came as a sharp blow against my knee. I clutched at it as I went over the rapids. I thrashed, trying to keep my head above water. I howled as one rock gashed my side and others clobbered my flailing arms and legs. Staying above water, breathing, became critical. I would suck in air before being thrown back into a violent tumble, enduring the full span of the rapids.
By the time the current subsided I was worn out, sore and felt the sting of opened skin on my side and hands. My feet found the gravel riverbed, and I stood to find the water waist deep. I heard heavy breathing behind me, and spinning around found myself face to face with a large black bear. He had a fish still flapping in its mouth, and with big grey eyes stared at me. I softly gasped and backed away. To my right I heard the roar of another bear (this one brown). With teeth barred and a menacing look on his face, he raised himself on two legs. He towered over me, and with claws spread I was sure this to be my end.
He raised one paw and advanced as I tried to back away. And then came a third bear with auburn fur. At first it was a blur. The brown bear advancing on me was pummeled from the side by the auburn bear. They snapped and clawed at each other, and wrestling threw up water in every direction. The brown bear was by far the larger of the two, and at one point managed to throw the other off of him. They squared off, teeth barred and growling at one and other.
"Stop!" a voice boomed. A large man placed himself between the two. He had black hair and large gray eyes, too similar to that first bear for me not to realize they were one in the same. "Brothers, please! You are not enemies," he directed to both of them. This seemed to work, as the growling turned to panting. They stared at each other a moment, then the brown one began to shrink. His fur effortlessly changed to skin, and within seconds was in his human form. He was very tall, with a chiseled jaw and sinewy muscles that in some ways appeared more animal-like than his ursine form.
He turned a raptor glare on me. "Who are you, trespasser?"
I fumbled, searching for the right words. A familiar voice answered for me, "He is my guest."
Keevoh (who I could only assume was the auburn furred bear) moved towards me, but all the while keeping a weary eye on the other.
"You will not harm him. By our custom--"
"Guest or not, he is in our territory; he is in our river."
Keevoh did not respond immediately, but met the other's gaze with teeth practically bared. "He is my guest," Keevoh said evenly.
"And where did you meet this guest? Would you vouch for this stranger? Do not think I do not sense it too."
He set that raptor glare on me again, "I know what you are. Do not think I do not sense that wild magic coursing through your veins. Where is your master?" I found myself backing up as he advanced on me.
"Stop!" Keevoh yelled, and thrashing advanced towards us.
It was the third man, the large one with black hair and big gray eyes, who put himself between me and my assailant. He held one hand up and smiled. The tall muscled man stopped, and waited for him to speak. "Karr, can you not smell it?" He turned to me and leaned slightly in and inhaled. "Not all of Keevoh has been washed from his body. No, I believe he is more than Keevoh's guest." With those big gray eyes he smiled at me, then winked. "What is your name?"
"I... uh..."
"He doesn't know," Keevoh finished, sounding miserable. He moved to me, and placing his hands on my shoulders looked into my eyes with embarrassment and concern. "Are you OK?" He whispered. I didn't trust my voice, so just nodded my head.
"He does not belong here," the tall one named Karr stated.
Keevoh half turned, "By our customs--"
"By our customs we must speak. In private." Karr blared.
There was a pause, and then Keevoh turned back to me. "Can you walk? Can you make it back to the cabin?"
Instinctually I knew that as hostile as Karr was towards me, that it was in my best interest to leave. But I didn't want to go. The words spoken were already spinning in my mind. Despite not being welcome, there was clearly some truths here-- truths about Keevoh and truths about my own identity and the world that I had only recently waken to.
"Go." Keevoh said. And softer, so that only I could hear, "Please, go."
I frowned, and searched his face for the answers I needed. I found trepidation, but also a genuine concern. I nodded numbly, and turning waded to the shore. The cold morning air bit into me as I fully emerged from the water. I did not turn around. I just simply walked up shore to fetch my clothes.
I must have sat on his porch, for at least an hour. I followed again and again the threads in my mind. I felt alarm, concern for Keevoh, fear at some verdict that would force me to leave, an excitement still in having met this amazing man, and I also felt anger. I was angry, and at first I didn't fully know why. It felt like betrayal, but at the same time this was a man whom I had just met the other day. He had his world, and who was I to judge? My world was still a grey blur, but underneath all the strange unwelcome emotion, there was this thorn. It was a thorn in my mind, a sharp point of pain that I could not deny: he knew something about me. Karr said he sensed magic in me, and inquired where my master was. He had spoken with such disdain and conviction, that it seemed almost certain he knew who or what I was. If he knew, Keevoh had to have.
I was left with all these conflicting emotions for quite some time. At one point I walked halfway to the river. I stopped, turned around, and found myself back on his porch. The morning turned to afternoon, and by then famished, I summoned the courage to enter his house. That sweet blend of rosemary, smoke, wood and musk filled my nose and I thought of last night. I went to the chest, and produced some dried fish and root vegetables. I munched on them for a bit, and wandered over to the bed. It still radiated his scent and a heavy smell of sex. I laid down in that intoxicating embrace, and closed my eyes. Little phantoms from the morning played out in my head, and without the distraction of memories apart from Keevoh, I was forced to let them unfold again and again. I thought of last night, his large animal form mounting my quivering body. I thought of waking up to his gentle snores, that white angelic light seeping through. I thought of the river, the water rushing over my head between gasping and clawing for air. I thought of Karr and his violent disapproval. Eventually sleep began to take hold, and as the lights of consciousness dimmed I heard myself whisper, "Forgive."
I woke to smell of cooked fish and the popping of the fire pit. It was dark, and silhouetted was Keevoh's form positioned towards the fire. I shifted to get up, wincing at the soreness from the river accident.
"You shouldn't get up. You need to rest."
I instinctively reached down to my side, where I had been cut. I found a small grassy patch on my wound, damp with a thick paste.
"My side," I said.
He turned to me. "I dressed your wounds. You should be fully healed in the next few days, but you will need to rest."
He put his hand on my shoulder and looked in my eyes. He had a weary, sad look on his face, and the flames danced in his eyes. "I am sorry. I did not want you to meet them that way."
The fire rustled and popped, and it took a moment before I responded. "What Korr said. Do you know what I am?"
Keevoh winced, and sighed deeply. "Yes."
"There was a wizard, two day's travel from here. My kind has never meddled with his affairs, but we knew of his practice. He would tell you he takes on apprentices, teaching them the arts of human magic and helping them achieve their potential. In reality, he breaks boys. He experiments on them, abuses them, perverts their magic and worse. He is considered a monster by many."
"Some have escaped, and some cast aside after a time. Perhaps some are dead, but my kind has only known those we have met. His magic has a very distinct signature."
He turned away for a moment, hiding his face in the shadow. He quietly concluded, "You may not remember who you are, but it could have been worse. It could have been much worse."
For a brief second, that grey cloud that was my past coalesced into the face of an older man-- cold blue eyes, clean shaven, and wrinkles on an expressionless face.
"Aureth." I whispered.
"Yes. That is the wizard's name."
"Had today not happened... would you have told me?" I heard myself asking.
He didn't answer. He turned back to me, his eyes in the firelight, and instead hugged me. I resisted for but a moment, but breathing in that sweet musk, feeling that warmth radiating off of him, I relented and hugged him back.
The fish had cooked too long, but I think we both were grateful for the meal and the company. We ate in mostly silence, both lost in thought from all that has transpired. He did not mention the meeting with Karr and the one with the large grey eyes, and I did not press him further for knowledge.
After our meal he went outside to smoke alone, and I laid back down in his warm, wonderful bed. My eyes closed, and later I felt his arm slip around me carefully avoiding my side wound. His hand rested on my belly and spooning me tight he planted a kiss on my neck before we both crossed over into sleep.
