The Craft (Novel Version) by Julien Gregg juliengregg85@gmail.com
Prologue
The concrete floor under his knees was gouged and cracked. The bathroom stank of stale urine and sweat. The fact that no one used the bathroom in the basement often must have meant that the janitor failed to clean it regularly. Seventeen year old Adam Wells grunted around the dick that was shoving itself into his throat as he felt the hard concrete against his knees. The dick belonged to his nemesis, Aaron Coleson. Since the seventh grade Aaron and his friends had been shoving Adam into the lockers, punching him in the arms and stomach and basically making his life at school a living hell. Then at the beginning of their senior year Aaron had decided that Adam was going to suck his dick every day before and after school in the basement boys' bathroom. Adam had refused the first week of school and he'd gotten one of the worst beatings for his trouble.
They were always careful not to leave a mark on him that could be seen outside of the locker room, but Adam usually had a black eye or a split lip anyway. Those were gifts from his stepfather. As if life at school wasn't hell enough he had to go home each day to the waiting fists and boots of his fifty year old drunken stepfather who seemed to hate him simply for existing. His mother was no help. She would scream at him and tell him what a disappointment he was. She often accused him of not wanting her to be happy and pissing off Larry on purpose. Larry Schneider was the scum of the earth in Adam's opinion. He existed to cause him pain and anguish.
Then there was Aaron and his friends to make him feel right at home while he was at school. He never knew when one of them was lurking behind a row of lockers, waiting for him to walk by so they could start punching him or trip him or shove him into the lockers. Now that Aaron was forcing him to fellate him twice a day Monday through Friday things had only gotten worse. Aaron wasn't telling anyone what was happening, but he didn't stop anyone from hurting him either. In fact, forcing his dick down his throat was hurting him. The attacks during the day had gotten more aggressive as soon as the oral sex had started. Adam thought that he would be safe from Aaron and his friends in two days. This was their senior year and it would be over on Friday. He wasn't planning to attend graduation, so he didn't think he'd ever have to see Aaron again.
He worked with Aaron's older brother, Donny, but the guy paid absolutely no attention to him while they were at work. None of them at work paid any attention to him unless he did something wrong. Hal, his boss had run off a few teen customers for calling him names, making messes for him to clean up and things like that, but he always looked at Adam hard after that like it was his fault. He didn't actually know why the others hated him so much. It had been that way since the start of seventh grade.
He'd read somewhere that the bullies always find the weakest kid and begin to torment him or her for as long as they could. Had he been the weakest kid? He wasn't sure about that, but it didn't matter. For the last five years they'd made going to school hell for him. It was during the summer before seventh grade had begun that his mother had married Larry Schneider, a local truck driver and alcoholic. The hell at home didn't start right away though. It started the week before school started and it all started over a football game on television. Adam couldn't tell Larry the score and that was the first time he was ever punched in the face in his life.
"Gettin' there, fag," Aaron said as he slammed his dick into Adam's throat. "God you're a good cocksucker."
Adam could only grunt and hope that he was telling the truth about getting there. The sooner Aaron came the sooner he could get home and rinse his mouth with Listerine to get rid of the taste of his bitter cum. Then he just had to be careful not to cross his stepfather before work. Two more days and this part would be over. That didn't mean anything about home though. He couldn't wait for June. He'd be eighteen in June and even if he didn't get into college with a scholarship he'd move out of his mother's house and keep to himself. That's what he kept thinking about as his battered throat took another painful slam and then another. Then Aaron held his head with his nose smashed into his pubic bush and let go. Adam struggled to breath around the dick in his throat and darkness began to invade his vision as Aaron held him there. Finally he let go and Adam was gasping.
"Don't think that this'll be over any time soon, fag," said Aaron as he wiped his dick across Adam's face before stuffing it back into his jeans and zipping his fly. "I've told my brother about you. He's gonna make sure you stick with me. Understand?" He slapped Adam's face with his open hand and grinned at him.
Adam could only blink at him in surprise. Somewhere in the back of his mind he was trying to plan for an escape of some sort but he never took his eyes off of Aaron. Aaron Coleson wasn't exactly an ugly boy. He was six feet tall with dark wavy hair that was cut short. His green eyes were bright with delight as he looked down at his victim. Adam could see the muscles bulging under his t-shirt and he'd gripped his muscular thighs as he'd been assaulted. He knew from experience that Aaron could kick the shit out of him. That was why he kept quiet.
He waited until Aaron checked himself in the mirror above the first sink in the row of dirty metal sinks across from the urinals and stalls and then left the bathroom before he stood on shaking legs and thought about the implications of what Aaron had said about his brother. Donny Coleson was what some people would call a stud. He was a little over six feet with lighter hair than his younger brother but only a few shades. Where Aaron's hair was the color of coffee, Donny's was the color of chestnuts. His eyes were a lighter green and he had this patent smirk that was sexy as hell.
Adam had known he was gay for quite some time. He wasn't sexually attracted to Aaron in any way, and he still didn't know why Aaron had added the oral sex to his barrage of violence. Maybe Aaron had figured him out somehow. He shook his head to dispel that thought and left the bathroom as quietly as possible. The other students were just getting to their lockers as he came up the stairs to the ground floor. Adam didn't bother with his locker. He hadn't used it in the three years he'd been at the high school. His books were all in his backpack which was currently slung over his left shoulder.
He got out of there as fast as possible. He walked three blocks to catch the city bus so he wouldn't have to endure the taunting on the school bus. Crete, Iowa wasn't a sprawling metropolis by any means but it was large enough to need a public transportation system. There were six busses that could take you anywhere in the city. He took the Pine Street bus which dropped him off downtown in front of the old JC Penny building that was now vacant and boarded up. There he transferred to the Elm Street bus and waited while the drivers took their break and other passengers boarded the busses. He thought about what Aaron had said the whole time he was on the bus and wondered how he could get out of it.
He thought about just quitting his job and not going back to school. He didn't actually have to be there for any reason now that the school year was so close to being over. There were no assignments or anything to worry about. But he couldn't quit his job without another lined up to take its place. Larry would beat him severely if he didn't have his fifty dollars a week to pay his rent. He sighed as the bus pulled up to the corner near his house. He scanned the street as he got off the bus, looking for Larry's truck. He sighed as he saw that it wasn't in front of the house and he couldn't find it anywhere on the block. Maybe he'd gone on the road. If he had gone on the road that meant that Adam would have three days free of him. That would be nice. It was more likely that he was at Dock's Tavern, drinking and stewing about whatever Adam had forgotten to do before he left for school. There was always something, some reason for his fists or his kicks.
The house Adam grew up in was a single story two bedroom cottage style house like all of the others on both sides of the block it was located on. It had a slate roof and white clapboard siding. The house was a simple layout with the living room in the front, the bedroom Adam spent a lot of time in right off the living room, down the hall was the master bedroom and the only bathroom. The kitchen was behind the living room. There was a large back yard which was now home to three rusted out cars on blocks. The house didn't look much better on the inside.
Adam could remember when the living room was spotless, and not a single smudged fingerprint could be found on the oak coffee table that his father had spent so much time working on in the garage that Larry had torn down the year he married Adam's mother. He could remember the scent of cookies baking in the kitchen and his mother's delighted smile as he snuck a finger into the batter bowl. He could remember how excited he'd been when his dad had given him the handmade oak bed frame with the two drawers in the pedestal. The matching dresser, desk and night table had come a few days later. They were still in his room now, but the magic had died with his father.
Now the house was cold and forbidding. The beautiful oak end tables, coffee table and entertainment center were gone. Larry had sold them all off, but he hadn't dared to try to get rid of Adam's bedroom furniture. Adam wasn't sure why but he knew that if he tried now it would be his undoing. He hated his stepfather for so many things, the least of which were his selling off his father's possessions and tearing down the garage that had been his father's workshop. Adam was far from a violent person, but if Larry tried to even talk about selling his things he'd find a way to kill the bastard.
The living room was now dark all of the time. Larry's black leather furniture fit perfectly in the dingy and dark room. The thirty-six inch television sat on a black television stand in front of the two side windows. All of the drapes were always closed now that his mother couldn't stand the sunlight. She spent most of her time camped out on the leather sofa in front of the television with her faithful bottle of vicodin and her trusted bottle of scotch. The room stank with her in it. The little trash can that sat under the black end table at the end of the sofa was where she was fond of vomiting. Adam rarely went into the living room if not to pass through to the equally depressing kitchen.
The kitchen that had been painted a pale yellow before Adam was born was now black and white from top to bottom. The countertops were covered in junk. The table was black with wooden chairs painted black with black and white checked cushions on the seats. Adam rarely ate in the kitchen. He preferred his bedroom where the curtains were always open and the sun shined inside. The floor was clean and empty of junk, the desk had his lamp and model car, and his bed was always meticulously made, this had been beat into him by Larry who claimed not to want to have to see any junk. Adam nearly laughed as he thought of that. The kitchen and living room were piled with junk, and most of it was his.
He let himself in with his key as his mother hissed because of the light spilling in around him through the open front door. He closed the door quickly and made his way through the living room, walking around the stacks of car and truck magazines that were piled in random stacks throughout the living room. He was nearly to the hallway when his mother spoke. She rarely spoke to him anymore so he stopped to listen when she started talking.
"Larry's gone," she said in a cracked and tired voice. "Be gone three days this time. Got any money?"
"No, Mother," he said. "I had to pay for school lunches on Monday. The money's all gone."
"Ungrateful bastard," she moaned. "You know I need money, Adam."
"You don't need my money," he said carefully. "Larry always leaves you money in the cookie jar in the kitchen."
"Will you check?" she asked, looking excited as he turned around to look at her. He wondered how this had happened to her. He remembered her hurting her back when she'd slipped on the ice the winter after she'd married Larry. The pain had been intense. He remembered that much. But she'd gone through the pain meds pretty quickly and she'd cycled through the stronger and stronger drugs until her recent landing with vicodin. The drinking he remembered had started when Larry had starting beating him. He wasn't stupid enough to think that it was her way of coping with what Larry did. She wasn't that kind of mother anymore.
He crossed the living room and went into the kitchen. Right away he noticed that a lot of the junk was gone from the countertop. He thought about asking his mother about that but then decided that she'd probably been high and drunk all day so he didn't bother. The teddy bear cookie jar sat on the counter beside the fridge and he opened it to find the money Larry had left with a note from Larry, telling him not to let his mother spend all of it on booze. He counted the money quickly and took out one of the four hundred dollar bills before stuffing the other three in his pocket. The letter also had a list of groceries to buy before Larry came home.
"Here, Mother," he said, holding out the hundred dollar bill. "I told you he left you money."
"Good," she said, snatching the bill from his hand. "Good." She looked at him oddly for a moment and he wondered what she was thinking. He didn't have long to wait. "What are you doing home so early?"
"Mother, it's three - thirty in the afternoon," he sighed. "School let out an hour ago. I have to get ready for work. Do you need anything?"
"No," she said, shaking her head and looking away from him. "I've got what I need. You go on and make me some more money."
He shook his head sadly and walked out of the living room and into his bedroom. He quickly changed into his work uniform and put the money in his sock. He couldn't put the money in the savings account that Miss Sallinger had helped him get because Larry would want receipts and any money that was left over. He always left four hundred to see how much Adam would give him back. He knew about the hundred that Adam gave his mother each time and though it pissed him off he didn't beat Adam over that. He would if Adam couldn't explain where any of the other money went.
He remembered what Aaron had said at school and quickly took the money out of his sock and slid his desk out from the wall. Behind it was the air vent that had never worked. He used the butter knife in his desk drawer to unscrew the screws that held the cover on the vent and then put the money inside with his report cards and other hidden documents and screwed the cover back on. He slid the desk back in place and then left the house and headed to work.
The Shell station, owned by Hal Brinkmeyer was one of the smallest filling stations in Crete. It had four pumps, all of which were only used by the employees. The Shell station was the last of a dying breed of full service stations. The big lighted sign in the standard shell shape of yellow and white was visible above the trees. The building itself was old but had a new paint job as of the beginning of spring. It was a white stucco building with a mustard yellow band around it. There wasn't much to the place actually. The service bay was to the left of the pumps and could hold two cars at a time. There was a staff of mechanics that worked in the service bay. Adam didn't have much to do with any of them but Jessy Cates, the head mechanic. He'd told Adam that he was twenty-four years old just two weeks ago. It had been Jessy's birthday and Hal had given him a Hostess cupcake with a birthday candle stuck in it.
Jessy was about five foot, ten inches tall with a wiry build. He had bright red hair and blue eyes and was covered from head to toe, his words, with freckles. He was a likeable guy and the only one in the entire place that had ever expressed worry over the multitude of black eyes and split lips that Adam had come to work with. Of course Adam couldn't tell him the truth, but he told him that he got into a lot of fights and left it at that. Jessy didn't seem convinced but thankfully he'd let it go. Adam saw Jessy's beat up blue pickup truck in the side lot where the employees parked. He felt relief when he didn't see Donny's red Camaro in the lot.
Hal was at the service desk when Adam came in and made his way to the small back room to punch his time card. Hal was a formidable looking man even at five foot, six inches of height. He had a shaved head down to the skin with very dark eyebrows and green eyes. He always had a sour look on his face which made him look mean. He was actually a pretty good boss. He rarely bothered with Adam unless he'd done something wrong. So Adam was surprised when he called his name as he came back out of the back room.
"Gonna need you to train the new guy tonight, Adam," he said as Adam walked up to the desk. Until then he hadn't seen the good looking guy sitting in the dingy chair in front of the desk.
"Peter Anderson," he said, rising to his full six feet. He gripped Adam's hand and shook it, smiling at him. He was one of the best looking guys Adam had ever seen. He had short dark hair, and really striking blue eyes. Adam thought that his eyes were what was called baby blue. He was tall and thin but looked like he could handle himself. "Friends call me Pete."
"Nice to meet you, Pete," Adam said, retrieving his hand and looking back at Hal.
"Coleson's off for the next two days," Hal said. "So you're what I got to train him. Don't screw it up, hear?"
"Yes, sir," he said. "I won't screw it up. I'll show him what he needs."
He thought about the fact that Donny was off for the next two days and smiled. Showing Pete what was what wasn't all that hard. There were the shelves of motor oil and transmission fluid. The brake fluid and power steering fluid was kept behind the service desk. There was no cash register to worry about. All transactions were done from the cars. Oil checks, transmission checks and all of that was done at the cars with the attendant going back into the small station to get what he needed. He showed Peter the change belts with their pockets for bills. He counted out fifty dollars in change and small bills and filled the coin dispenser in his change belt and put the bills in the pocket of the small black apron that went with it. Then he did the same for his own.
They took turns pumping gas and checking oil while Hal manned the phone and made appointments for the service bay. The evening went by really fast for Adam as he and Pete talked about everything from what they were both interested in to Adam's impending graduation from high school. He learned that Pete was home for the summer from Storyville University where he'd just finished his freshman year and would be returning in September. Adam nearly told him that he was hoping to attend Storyville University but thought better of it. After all he'd only just met Pete and Donny was only off for two days. He didn't know what Pete would think of Donny Coleson and in turn think of him once he got to know him. He decided it was best to keep his college plans to himself.
He was happy as he walked home from the station. He had made a tentative friend, nothing cruel had happened to him all evening and Larry was on the road for three days. He only had two more days of school to get through and he would be done with that. If he could just figure out how to keep out of Aaron's clutches and away from Donny he'd be all right. He only had until June to put up with his mother and Larry and then if he could stay away from Aaron and Donny he'd be all right finally. There'd be no one to push him around anymore or hurt him physically, emotionally or sexually. If he got into college with a scholarship he'd be set. He'd only applied to schools that were in other states. He didn't want to risk staying in Iowa. He didn't know why but he was sure that if he stayed in Iowa one of them would catch up with him. Unfortunately the only school he really wanted to go to was in Storyville, Iowa. However it was nowhere near close to Crete. That was the only thing that made it completely acceptable.
Thankfully his mother was in bed by the time he got to the house. The house was dark and he could smell the vomit as soon as he opened the front door. One look with the kitchen light on and he saw that it was quite a mess. She may have made it to her bed but she'd left him a puddle beside and down the side of the trash can to deal with. It was already soaked into the carpet and he sighed as he noticed it. He got the bucket and scrub brush out from under the sink and filled the bucket with hot soapy water. Then he was on his hands and knees in the living room scrubbing up his mother's putrid vomit. He worked quickly but thoroughly, turning on the small square fan and setting it up right in front of where the trash can and puddle had been. He took the trash can into the kitchen, emptied it in the garbage and then cleaned it in the sink. He was careful to rinse the sink extremely well and even spilled bleach into the drain to get rid of the stench and kill whatever germs had lived through the hot water.
He sat the wet garbage can on the back porch to air dry and then turned off the lights and headed into his room. He closed his door and stripped out of his clothes. He put the bathrobe on before he opened his door again. Making his way down the hall he decided he'd best check on his mother. If she had thrown up more in the bedroom he'd have to clean that up before Larry came home or it would be his ass. Thankfully she was under the covers when he looked in on her and there was no putrid stench in the bedroom aside from the stale scent of both of them.
He took his shower, loving the hot water on his tense muscles. Showers were quick when Larry was home because he would accuse him of trying to run the water bill up and hurt him if he stayed in there longer than ten minutes. Adam had become quite adept at scrubbing his body, hair and rinsing himself in under ten minutes. He dried himself in his room usually. This night, however he could stay in the shower for a while. He lazily soaped his body and thought about Donny Coleson. It was a guilty pleasure until that day. He'd lusted after Donny almost since the first day he'd laid eyes on him. He found himself wondering what it would be like to have sex with Donny as he wrapped his soapy hand around his dick and slowly stroked himself.
Donny was one of the sexiest guys he'd ever seen. He tried to imagine Donny being gentle and caring with him but his mind kept filling with images of Aaron and his assaults and he lost his erection. Sighing he rinsed himself and climbed out of the shower. His mother was waiting in the hall when he came out of the bathroom in his robe. She shoved him out of her way and went in, slamming the door behind her.
He went to his room and stood before the full length mirror on the back of his door. He looked at his reflection and sighed. His shoulder length caramel colored hair was wet and limp. He took in his angular face, squared chin and hazel eyes. There was no growth of hair over his lip nor stubble on his chin. He dropped the robe and looked at his naked body with another sigh. The first thing he noticed was the perfect shoe print bruise in the center of his flat chest. The bruise was turning yellow which meant that it would fade soon as long as he could keep himself out of the path of Aaron and his friends in the halls at school.
There was the long scar on his forearm from where two of them had caused him to cut himself in shop class with an exacto knife. Other than those features nothing really stood out. He was rail thin, his ribs showing on both sides. There was no hair on his chest or stomach, not even a treasure trail. He was seventeen years old and thought he had the body of a twelve year old just this side of puberty. The only hair on his body other than the soft almost invisible brown hair on his arms and legs was his pubic bush. It wasn't thick or thin and it didn't hide the fact that his dick wasn't overly large either. He'd measured it and looked it up discreetly on the computers at school to find that he was of average length and girth for a grown male. That was him all right, average in every way.
With another sigh he got one of the three towels out of his closet. These were the only towels he was allowed to use and only because he'd paid for them with his own money. Larry was a bastard about bath towels too. His body was already dry, so he used the towel to dry his long hair. He sat on the edge of his bed to dry his hair as he wracked his brain for a way to escape Aaron completely before he left for college. Going away to college was still a big if in his mind as well. He'd heard nothing from the six schools he'd applied to. He wasn't stupid though. He had made sure that any and all correspondence with any college would be sent to the school, to his guidance counselor's office.
He draped the towel over the back of his desk chair. He climbed into bed, turning the lamp off as he pulled the comforter over his naked body. It took a lot for him to fall asleep that night, but he finally must have because the next thing he knew his alarm was going off. He quickly slapped it silent and got out of bed. He dressed quickly in a white t-shirt and jeans, sitting down at his desk and swiveling the chair around to put his socks and shoes on. Then he was in front of the mirror combing his hair back and pulling it into a tight ponytail. He grabbed his backpack and headed out of the house. His mother was still sleeping and he was glad. Her usual morning rants at him were not pleasant.
He got to the bus stop a few minute early and was surprised that there was no one there. There was something on the green and yellow bench though. He stared at the object as he walked across the street to the bus stop. It was a book. He picked it up and read the cover, Celtic Witchcraft for the Modern Age by Astadi Daultry. Witchcraft, he thought as he sat down and opened the book to a random page and began to read. He was so fascinated by what he was reading that he almost didn't realize that other people had arrived at the bus stop or that the bus was pulling up. He quickly stuffed the book into his backpack and stood up.
They were waiting for him when he got to school. He came in the front double doors, through the metal detectors with everyone from the bus and made it exactly fifty steps into the main hall when someone grabbed him by the arm. He looked up and wondered why they had. He always knew who it was at school who actually touched him in any way. Most of the kids made fun of his clothes or his injuries, but they never touched him. Most of them probably thought he was too dirty to touch. He liked it that way so he never worried about them. Only a small group of people ever touched him.
"Look who's here, guys," called Calvin Harkle as he dragged Adam by the arm over to where Aaron and the rest of their band of idiotic friends were waiting.
Calvin was six feet tall with very muscular arms. His grip was tight and Adam winced from the pain of it. The boy was a hulk compared to his own five feet and six inches of height. Calvin, like Aaron was one of the basketball players and the girls loved his blond hair and blue eyes. He had that same patent smirk that Aaron was famous for as well.
"Turn him loose," Aaron said quickly. "Spivey's commin'."
Calvin quickly let go of Adam's arm as Mr. Spivey, the Health Services teacher came down the hall. Adam took that opportunity to walk away from them. He heard Aaron saying something as he walked away but he didn't pay any attention. He walked toward the six foot three inches tall teacher and prayed that they wouldn't follow him.
"Adam," said Mr. Spivey with a smile. He wore his thinning dark hair combed over the growing bald spot on the top of his head. His watery grey eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled. "Just the guy I was looking for. Come with me to Miss Sallinger's office."
Adam assumed he was in trouble for something. Teachers rarely bothered with him much. He was sure that this was the first time that Mr. Spivey had said a word to him outside of calling out his name during roll call at the beginning of third period every day for the last four years. He racked his brain trying to figure out what he'd done to get into trouble at school and tried not to think about what Larry would do to him when he came home and found out about whatever it was.
Miss Sallinger's office was small with a glass wall that faced the main hall. Her long desk was white and covered with framed photographs of her two poodles that every kid in school knew were named Badger and Toad. The wall behind the desk was taken up by three floor to ceiling white bookcases that contained more framed photographs of the two poodles, books on child development, teen psychology and various other scholastic subjects.
Mary Beth Sallinger was one of three guidance counselors for Crete High School. She wasn't a large person. She was all of five feet tall with a very petite figure, ginger blond hair that was cut so that it fell just to her shoulders and the bluest eyes Adam had ever seen. She wore very little make up to cover her porcelain complexion and always had a smile for everyone. She was dressed in a white dress with purple and yellow flowers all over it. This was just one of many white floral pattern dresses that she owned. Each day she wore a different floral patterned dress.
"Adam," she said with a huge smile as he and Mr. Spivey walked into her office. She nodded at the two white ladder back chairs in front of her desk. "Have a seat. I wanted to see you about your college acceptance letters."
"Have they finally come?" he asked, hoping against hope that his ticket out of Crete was somewhere on her white desk.
"Yes, Adam," she said, smiling again. "You've been accepted at all six schools you applied to. Two of them are prepared to offer you partial scholarships, but Storyville University is offering a full scholarship."
He could only look back at her through stunned eyes. Storyville University was the one school he really wanted to go to. They were going to give him a full scholarship? His grades were good, he'd been on the honor roll every quarter for the last four years. He had a foreign language, science and higher math classes aplenty and he supposed that was what had decided the whole thing, but he still couldn't believe it.
"What do I have to do to accept the scholarship to Storyville University?" he asked when he could finally speak.
"You have to fill out these papers and have them signed by a member of the faculty," she said, handing him a packet of papers. "I've signed them, because I knew that SU was the school you most wanted to attend. Adam, I'm so happy for you. Congratulations!"
"Thank you, Miss Sallinger," he said as he looked over the papers in the packet.
It was all there. It mentioned vouchers for books and lab fees, dorm assignment, post box and even a cafeteria card good for one free meal per day each month. He was so excited that he could barely sit there. He quickly signed the first page, which was the letter of intent. Then he signed and initialed in each space that required either. When he handed the packet back to Miss Sallinger he was beaming at her.
They talked a bit more about what to do once the actual scholarship papers arrived. There were only two more days of school left, but Miss Sallinger assured him that she would still be in her office for the next two weeks, preparing for the summer school term and she would leave a message for him at the gas station when the papers came in. Mr. Spivey congratulated him as Miss Sallinger wrote him a pass to get into his first hour class which only had fifteen minutes left.
He was on cloud nine for the rest of the day. Even Calvin and Aaron's taunts didn't phase him. He wasn't even upset to find Aaron waiting outside his final class of the day for him. He followed behind Aaron in silence through the hall to the stairs that led to the basement. Aaron said nothing until they were inside the bathroom.
"You got away from us this morning," he said. "What was that all about?"
"My grades," he lied. He still refused to look Aaron in the eye. He stared at his own feet while Aaron talked.
"You probably won't even graduate," laughed Aaron. "You've got to be one of the most stupid people I've ever met. You couldn't even figure out how to get away from this." He clutched his crotch, pushing his pelvis forward as he laughed again.
"Whatever," he said. Nothing Aaron could say or do at that point would change his mood. He was happy for the first time in so long.
"Get to it, Fag," Aaron said as he unzipped his pants and pulled his dick out.
After it was over, Adam walked all the way home. He got there just in time to shower and change for work. His mother wasn't in the living room and he was happy for that. He supposed she might have gone down the street to the Mini Mart to buy more booze, but he didn't care. Let her drink herself to death, he thought as he headed out the back door and cut through the maze of broken down cars in the back yard.
At work that night he let Pete do most of the work to see if he needed any help with anything. Hal even patted his shoulder gently and told him he'd done a good job training Pete when their shift was over. Adam didn't know what to think of that. He didn't really trust Hal, though the man had sat him down in his office several times to ask him about his blackened eyes and split lips. He'd always shown real concern and it was clear that he didn't believe Adam when he said he got into a lot of fights. He never said anything when Adam had to have something delivered to the station or a message was left for him there. He seemed to understand that Adam's home life wasn't ideal.
It was the next night that his further torment began at the hands of Donny Coleson. The nineteen year old had said nothing to Adam during their entire shift that evening but when they closed up at ten he stood beside his car and told Adam to get in. Pete said goodbye to him and to Donny and then got in his own beater and drove out of the lot. Adam had no choice but to get into Donny's car.
"My brother says you been suckin' his dick twice a day all year long," Donny said. "Never figured you for a fag, but it don't matter none."
Adam said nothing to this. He was too busy worrying about what Donny was going to do to him. He hoped he wasn't going to kick his ass. He was really scared of Donny. He'd heard all the stories about his golden gloves days in high school. Aaron and his friends' beatings were bad enough. He didn't want to find out how much worse it would be to be pounded on by a former golden gloves champion boxer.
"You never say much do you?" Donny said after a long silence. "That don't bother me none though. I guess you're probly scared. I ain't gonna do nothing you ain't used to."
Adam didn't believe him. He never believed anything that any of them said to him. To Adam, Donny was no different than his brother. He was bigger and probably a hell of lot meaner, but underneath they were the same. Aaron's friends were the same too. He had never been gullible where any of them were concerned and he wasn't going to start now.
Donny pulled the Camaro into a driveway next to a trailer in a row of them. He got out and headed up the concrete steps to the door. Adam got out and followed him into the rusted white trailer in silence. The inside of the trailer was musty and hot. There was brown carpet on the floor and the walls were all covered with old fashioned paneling. There was a couch against the wall across from the door that looked like it had once been blue. It was currently turning grey in several places. A recliner that matched it was against the adjacent wall. There was a small television set and a huge stereo system next to the door.
He looked to the left and saw the small kitchen with its cracked linoleum and sagging cabinets. He didn't know what to think of the place. Donny obviously lived there, and Adam was sure now why he'd brought him to the trailer. He just continued to hope that Donny wouldn't hurt him too much. He wasn't surprised when Donny stripped out of his jeans and sat in the recliner with his hard dick tight against his belly. He had that smirk that his brother wore whenever he looked at Adam plastered on his face as he snapped his fingers and pointed at his crotch with both index fingers.
Adam knew there was no point in trying to get out of this situation. He'd wondered what it would be like to have sex with Donny, so he supposed he was about to find out. At least he was about to find out what it was like to suck his dick. It was a bit bigger and thicker than Aaron's and unlike Aaron, Donny wasn't circumcised. That was a new one for Adam. He'd only ever sucked Aaron's dick so he didn't know how much different Donny's was going to be. He thought of all of this as he walked over and sank to his knees. He pulled the dick away from Donny's belly and put his mouth on it.
He tasted sweat and soap. He'd learned in Health Class about uncircumcised dicks and the problems they presented with cleanliness, but Donny seemed clean enough. He sucked his dick into his throat and really gave in to it. Donny moaned and put his hands on the back of Adam's head.
"God damn!" Donny hissed as Adam deep throated his dick. "I see what my brother goes on and on about now. Damn, Adam."
So, Adam thought, this is how it's going to be. For the next two days he would suck Aaron's dick twice a day and then Donny's every night he worked at the station. He was torn between anger and lust when it came to Donny. He hated Aaron with a passion that could scare a mob hit man, but Donny had never paid much attention to him before. Now here he was on his knees, sucking Donny's dick and hating himself for liking it.
"Gonna cum!" Donny breathed after what seemed a small eternity to Adam.
Adam steeled himself and accepted the salty cum when it erupted from the head of Donny's dick. He couldn't help himself as he mentally compared Donny's cum to his younger brothers. Aaron's was bitter and tasted terrible. Donny's was a bit salty but not all together disgusting. It was disgusting to Adam because he still felt like he was being forced to do this. Donny may have been nicer about it, but it was still force no matter how it was applied.
"Jesus!" Donny cried as he pushed Adam away from his crotch. "That was the best damned blow job I've had in a long time. Damn."
Adam stood up and looked at his feet again. He felt dirty and ashamed, much like he did twice a day with Aaron. He prayed silently that it would all end when he left Crete for Storyville at the end of the summer. He hoped he'd finally get away from both of the Coleson brothers once and for all, because he never planned to return to Crete for the rest of his life.
Donny talked to him about the trailer after he'd put his pants back on. He told him that his dad had bought the trailer and Donny was paying him back for it, which was why he was working two jobs. He actually apologized for the state of the place and said that working two jobs gave him very little time to clean. Then he had a new proposition for Adam. He said that if Adam would clean the place once a week he would pay him for it and he'd even keep Aaron off his back all summer long.
"Can't do anything about the two days you guys got left of school," he said as they climbed back into the Camaro. "I can kick his ass if he goes near you after that though. So?"
"I'll clean your trailer on Thursdays," Adam said, deciding on the spot. If Donny could keep Aaron off his back that was all the payment he needed.
"Gonna have to get some more of that mouth and throat of yours from time to time too, Adam," Donny said as they pulled out of the driveway.
Adam had figured that would be the case. He wasn't stupid. He'd known that getting Aaron off his back would cost him more than cleaning the damned trailer. He supposed it was a fair enough trade Donny didn't try to choke him on his dick like Aaron did. It could have been much worse.
"Whatever," he said finally.
And for the two days of school, he sucked Aaron's dick twice a day and Donny's after work. Then he decided to just accept that he was now a sort of sex slave for the two brothers. Sure Donny said he'd get Aaron off his back, and he actually might do something to try and achieve that but Adam wasn't gullible. He knew that people like Aaron never gave up when they had power over someone.
Two days later Adam stood in his cap and gown with his classmates as the sun began to set behind the school on his graduation day. They were lined up in alphabetical order so Aaron Coleson was near the beginning of the line while Adam was near the end. The only one of Aaron's friends he had to worry about was Jason Zearing, who was the last person in line and only six other students separated the two of them.
Jason was the least of his worries though. Throughout his high school career Jason Zearing had been the most reticent of Aaron's friends to torture and torment Adam. Adam suspected that the boy only had anything to do with Aaron's group to keep himself from being the subject of torture and torment. He wasn't kidding himself though. He believed that Jason was just as bad as the others.
He was expecting something to happen during the ceremony. They'd pull something on him to either hurt him or humiliate him. It didn't matter that teachers were all over the place. What more could they do now that this was graduation? It wasn't like his mother or Larry were even out there in the crowd to witness his torment and even pretend to care. This was the perfect opportunity for all of them to get one last lick in.
But he was surprised. Outside of being forced to suck Aaron's dick before most of the students arrived in one of the most dangerous places of all nothing else happened. He walked across the stage and collected his diploma and then left the school all together. Sure he knew that they were supposed to do some kind of performance but he didn't give a rat's ass about that. He was free of the high school now and he had no intention of sticking around to be a part of any last hurrah.
He went back to the locker room and took off his cap and gown, folded the gown and placed them in his gym locker without the lock and then he got the hell out of there. He was shocked when no one tried to stop him. He'd seen Donny in the crowd with his parents. They'd looked so normal, but Adam wasn't falling for that. He expected to find Donny and his Camaro behind the gym, but no one was there.
He got on his bike and made it all the way home. Larry's truck wasn't there again and Adam could only hope that he was called out on the road again. He wasn't counting his chickens though. He went in through the kitchen and noticed the living room light was off. There were no lights on anywhere in the house. He quickly checked his mother's room and found it empty. Apparently they were out somewhere together. He wasn't stupid enough to think that they'd gone to his graduation.
He went to his room and grabbed the book on witchcraft and left again. He rode his bike to the last place anyone would look for him. It was a hard spot to get to by bike and not exactly easy on foot either. He hid his bike in the bushes and then climbed through the thicket of overgrowth that had once been a community garden. He climbed the one tree to his hiding spot that made him hard to see but let him see everything around him.
He read through the introduction of the book, wondering about all of the people out there that considered themselves witches. He'd never thought about them much before, but he supposed they couldn't all be cracked pots. He kept reading and found spells for prosperity, health and love. He thumbed through the spell section until he came across a charm that was supposed to keep someone out of a specific place. The book said that it would make anyone who headed in that direction suddenly decide against it and not even realize it. It sounded too good to be true, but he climbed down out of the tree and collected the things required for the charm. He knew where to get the stones it called for and he even had some cheesecloth bags left over from when he'd ordered moss samples for his science project.
When he got back to the house he was happy to find that no one was there still. He put all of the ingredients in one of the three cheesecloth bags he had left from the moss samples and then went outside to be under the full moon. He read the chant straight from the book and did everything it said to do. Then he went back into the house and put the charm bag behind his dresser under the carpet where it had started to come loose from the wall. Then he washed his hands and stripped naked and climbed into bed. It was early yet, but he was suddenly so tired.
The next morning he was showered and outside by nine to wait for Donny to pick him. It was Thursday after all, and he'd agreed to clean Donny's trailer. Donny showed up and smiled at him. Adam didn't look him in the eye and he didn't smile back. He simply got in the car and let Donny drive him to the trailer.
"So you're a graduate now," Donny said. "And you don't have to see Aaron anymore."
"You got him to leave me alone?" he asked.
"I told him that if I found out that he touched you again I'd make him sorry," Donny said. "You're all mine now, Adam."
Adam got a real funny feeling in the pit of his stomach at those words and he hated himself for being torn between fear and desire.
