CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX: WEDDING DAY?
"That's it. I'm conducting monthly checks on all your devices," Justice said as she gestured to all of us. Bear and I had just finished giving everybody a personal account of the Mike situation.
We were at Bear's place where Bear, Miriam, and I were joined by Justice, Liberty, Christian, and Dave. They were here to help me move out of the dorm that I shared with Drake now that my classes were finished. I told them that I didn't need all of them to help me. Bear and Miriam, who had coincidentally found a reason to stay at school after their classes were done were enough to help. They just blew me off though and came anyway. Well, Sean and Carter couldn't make it and neither could Veronica.
"For what?" Christian asked as he squinted at her.
"Spyware, adware, malware, just to name a few," she said before rolling her eyes like she couldn't believe how technologically ignorant we all were. I was still pissed that I'd fallen into such a trap.
"And how do we know you won't be installing any spyware on our stuff?" Dave asked, and that was a good question, even though I didn't think she would.
"Anyway," Justice said after a long period of violently glaring at Dave. "Where is Mike now, just out of curiosity?" Justice asked, trying for nonchalant but failing.
"You can't kill him," Bear said, obviously picking up on what I was.
"Ain't nobody gonna kill that jackass," she said dismissively.
"Why don't I believe you?" Bear said as he looked at her suspiciously. She narrowed her eyes as she looked at him.
"Trust me, if I were going to kill someone, Trey would have a different roommate, and he would be single," she added the last part ominously.
"Every day, you become more and more my twin. I love it," Liberty said with a cheesy grin on her face.
"You say that like it's a good thing," Christian muttered, but we all heard.
"I'm sorry, I don't think I heard you," Liberty said with attitude, a lot of it. She'd definitely heard him.
"All I'm saying is the world can't possibly sustain the strain of two of you walking the planet," Christian said, and I tried my best to suppress my laughter.
"Are you calling me fat?" Liberty asked very aggressively, and I lost my battle against laughing, which earned me a sharp but brief glare from Liberty.
"No, of course not! I just meant-" he said but didn't get the chance to finish.
"You'd better not if you wanna keep living with your head attached to your body," she said in a long and violently descriptive threat.
"See! This is what I meant. There can't possibly be two of you existing in the world and have the balance between light and dark remain intact," he said, and I chuckled at that.
"You are such a nerd. You need to stop hanging out with Trey so much," she said and say what now?
"Say what now?" I said as I glared at her.
"You heard me, nerd boy," she responded with a challenging look.
"You'd better be glad I love you so much otherwise there'd be some words said. Oh, there'd be some words said, and they would have you crying by the time I was finished," I said very dramatically. Maybe my mother was right in that I was too dramatic.
"Bitch, please. I ain't scared," Liberty said as she waved dismissively at me.
"I wonder if people who observed us having a simple conversation would know that we were actually friends," Miriam finally chimed in.
"Yeah, why not?" Liberty asked and I could see where she was coming from.
"You know what, forget I said anything," she said with a wave of her hand. She was then distracted by a text on her phone.
"Tell Dale we love him," Bear teased followed by making kissing noises.
"Shut it, you," Miriam said with a finger point aimed at Bear.
"What is the tea with you and Dale anyway? I mean when Trey be telling us your business, he makes this Richie guy sound important to you," Liberty said all the while I was trying to shut her up by gesturing with my hand under my neck.
"Run that by me again," Miriam said as she gave me a death glare. I tried to make myself look as innocent as possible.
"I said, when Trey be telling us all of your business, he be telling us how you and this Richie guy are all over each other," Liberty said selling me out like the snitch she was.
"Ow," Bear said as Miriam threw a throw pillow at me but it hit Bear instead as I was sitting on the arm of the chair, he was sitting in.
"Well, Trey is lying if he told you anything that resembles that," Miriam said to Liberty before cutting me a sharp glare.
"She's lying out of her lying mouth," I declared as I stood up and dramatically pointed at her. I could see my mother smirking at me in my head.
"I don't think so, sweetie. I got witnesses, don't I Dave?" She said as she looked at Dave.
"I'm out of it," Dave wisely said.
"Well, you'd better find your ass back into it," Liberty threatened.
"She's one hundred percent right," he said selling me out now.
"Dave!" I exclaimed feeling betrayed.
"I'm sorry, man. Normally my loyalties would be to you as my friend and former roommate but I fear her," he said and I rolled my eyes.
"As you should," Liberty said with an evil grin as she tapped her fingers together like a movie villain.
"As much fun as this has all been I think we should figure out the sleeping arrangements so we can get up tomorrow and help Trey move," Christian said and I was all for that as I was tired myself.
"Well, it's obvious that the two of us get Bear's roommate's bed," Liberty said and how was that obvious.
"And what about me and your sister?" Dave asked, and I rolled my eyes. Bear's place was obviously big enough to house them all but I knew with my friends it would be a chore to get through this.
"You two can stay in Trey's room. One of you can sleep with Drake. I can't wait to find out who," Liberty said as another sinister grin adorned her lips as she looked between Justice and Dave. Justice just rolled her eyes but Dave wasn't having it, it seems.
"Well, why doesn't Christian stay there and sleep in his bed. Think about, your old man and new man sharing the same bed," Dave countered.
"Did you forget that you're afraid of me? I'm more than willing to remind you why," Liberty said seemingly innocently but the threat was there.
"Shutting up now," Dave said before sitting back down.
"Okay, now that that's over with, since Miriam still has her room, Justice, and Liberty will stay with her," Christian said emphasizing Liberty's name and giving her a pointed look when she looked to start to object.
"And Christian and I will stay here," Dave jumped in.
"Why do you wanna stay here with Bear so much? Is there something you're not telling us?" Liberty said as she narrowed her eyes at him. If only she knew but if that was the case, he would be wanting to stay with me. After all, I was the one he'd kissed not Bear.
"Nope, absolutely nothing," Dave said piping up. He was blushing furiously which meant he was more than likely thinking of what I was as well.
"You sure about that?" Bear asked with a teasing grin. He, of course, knew about the kiss as well as he'd been there watching. That thought briefly made me wonder if we were kinky.
"One hundred percent," Dave said sounding much less than one hundred percent sure.
"Uh-huh," Liberty said before looking towards Christian.
"Before you start, we need to get up early and if we sleep in the same bed tonight that won't be happening," he said and Liberty's mouth dropped open. The others hooted and whooped teasing her. I just smirked at her. She glared at Christian before she stood up and made Justice switch seats with her.
After a few more minutes of conversation, those of us that were leaving left Bear's place. I headed back to my dorm room while Miriam led the girls to hers. When I opened the door to my room Drake was already asleep.
I was curious why he'd also chosen to stay here at school after classes were over for the term. He wasn't taking summer courses, not that I knew, so he had no reason to stay. Miriam teased me that he stayed for me. I turned it around and asked if she did as well but she didn't answer. I knew what she and Bear had stayed for. I was clueless about Drake.
I went to take a shower and once I was done, I stuffed my dirty towels in the bag with my other dirty clothes and grabbed all of my bathroom items before leaving the bathroom. I placed my bathroom stuff in a duffel bag and dropped it down on my bed. It was kinda muggy still so I didn't bother getting dressed in anything other than my underwear.
I thought about the year and all the ups and downs I'd experienced. The major thing I was leaving this year with was the fact that I now had to share the man I loved with his daughter whose mother was someone I truly hated.
I turned my thoughts from that to what awaited me in the fall term. I'd have new roommates as I was being moved to a new room. It would be more like the apartment-like suite that Bear shared with Deacon only I'd have three suitemates.
One of them I already knew to be Reese, my friend who was doing the same undergraduate/graduate study program that I was. Richie, Miriam's "whatever" was the third member of our group. I didn't know who the 4th guy would be and probably wouldn't until classes resumed in the fall.
I'd have to share a room again with someone so I'd probably choose Richie or Reese who already knew about me and Bear. Reese had met him a couple of weeks ago and the stunned look on his face, once he knew who my "relaxer" was, was too funny. Apparently, he followed the football team and was a big fan of Bear. He told me later that he understood why I was so relaxed now.
I decided to shut my brain down and try to relax now that I had free time for the first time in what seemed like a long time. I found it harder to try and sleep now that my body was used to not sleeping right. I got a text from Bear close to 1 AM telling me to go to sleep. I asked him how he knew I was awake and he said he just did. He wished me a good night, told me he loved me, and again told me to go to sleep. That seemed to do the trick and a few minutes after our call ended, I felt myself drifting off to sleep.
"Rise and shine buttercup," I heard in a voice that was annoyingly waking me up.
"Fuck off," I mumbled before pulling a pillow over my head.
"Wow, can't believe this is the last time I'll hear your surly morning greetings," Drake said sounding much too chipper for the morning.
"Yeah, yeah," I mumbled as I tried to tune him out and go back to sleep.
"By the way, I think I should tell you that your morning "presentation" is wasted on me," he said with that Drake smugness that made me want to slug him.
"Huh?" I mumbled with my pillow still covering my face. Then I thought about what he could mean and that I was flat on my back, in my underwear, and not under any covers. I rose quickly and saw what he meant. My morning wood was standing straight up like the middle of a sundial.
"Morning," he said with a wink and his signature smug ass smirk.
"Perv," I said as I quickly covered my morning wood with my pillow.
"My, how the tables have turned between us," Drake said before laughing and walking off towards the bathroom. I managed to shake off my momentary embarrassment once I remembered that Drake had seen my morning wood before.
Once Drake had come out of the bathroom, I rushed in to relieve myself. I brushed my teeth and checked the room again to make sure I had gotten all my stuff before I returned to the other room to get dressed before Bear and our friends arrived.
As both Drake and I got dressed I started to wonder again why he was still at school. I began to wonder if it had anything to do with problems at home. During the entire time I'd known Drake in high school, I had only been to his house about 3 times and had only seen his parents like maybe a handful of times and his siblings, an older brother and sister, a couple of times each so I didn't know much about his family. All I knew for sure was that he seemed kind of distant from them. I started to ask but I was interrupted by a knock at the door.
"I'll get it," Drake said as he got up off his bed.
"Oh, it's you," Liberty said as she sneered at Drake.
"Hello to you too precious," Drake said cheerfully to get a rise out of Liberty. All she did though is roll her eyes before she shoved him aside and walked into my room followed by everybody else.
"Hey, babe," Bear said as he walked up to me before he laid a brief kiss on my lips.
"Hey yourself," I said back which earned me a grin from him and a scoff from Liberty.
"So, this is the fabled room that I'm just seeing now that you're moving out of it," Dave said as he looked around.
"Dave, stop tripping," I said as I rolled my eyes.
"Hey, I'm just saying," he said and I rolled my eyes again.
"Well, other than Miriam and Bear, none of us have been in here before," Christian said but that wasn't exactly true.
"Actually, I've been here before," Justice gloated.
"Shut up," Liberty groused.
"Jealous?" Justice asked with a smug smile.
"Not one bit, especially with the other tenant that occupies this room," Liberty said before directing another sneer at Drake who was now sitting on his bed.
"You talking about me?" He asked, looking innocent.
"What do you think?" She said as she eyed him with a scowl. He blew her a kiss and she responded by flipping him the bird.
"Well, I think we should get started now," Bear said as he grabbed a bunch of my stuff off my desk and packed it into one of the boxes I had waiting for my stuff.
"Okay, chop-chop everyone," Liberty said. We all got started but she took a seat on my bed instead of helping.
"Um, get your ass up and help," I said and Dave audibly gasped. Probably because I dared to speak to Liberty this way.
"Excuse me?" Liberty asked much too innocently.
"You heard me," I said as I stared her down. The room was quiet for a beat. Then Liberty stood up.
"Alright everybody, take cover," Bear said as he tried to usher everybody out the way. I just rolled my eyes that he tried to protect everybody but me.
"You're lucky that I love you otherwise I'd be gutting you like a fish right now," she said and Drake let out an audible gulp. I almost laughed that they thought we were serious.
"Oh please, like you even have a knife," I said dismissively. She responded by taking something out of her pocket which when she pressed the lever revealed a blade.
"Girl, is that a switchblade? Those are illegal," Justice said. I just shook my head because of course, she would have an illegal weapon.
"No, they ain't," she said as she rolled her eyes.
"Yes, they are," Miriam said and she looked at the both of them.
"Well, this will just be our little secret then," Liberty said as she slid the knife back into her pocket. Everybody either scoffed or shook their head at her.
We got busy packing and after 30 minutes we had everything packed up. Bear picked up my minifridge first and I delighted in watching his big arms flex as he lifted it by himself. He noticed me eyeing him and smiled and winked at me before heading out the door.
Liberty rolled her eyes before taking a couple of clothes bags down to my truck. We all took some stuff and after another trip for most of us, all my stuff was packed into Bear's truck. We decided to swap trucks as Bear's was bigger with a backseat, and he had less stuff to take home. He didn't have to pack up all his stuff as he'd be in the same room in the fall.
I headed back up to the room to check and make sure I had everything. Once I was sure everything was gone, I looked at Drake who looked a bit subdued. I just knew it couldn't be because he was gonna miss me. That would just be too much.
"Well, I guess this is it," Drake said as he stood up.
"Yup," I said as I slipped my backpack over my shoulder.
"Is this where we hug and tearfully swear that we'll never forget each other?" Drake asked and I couldn't help but laugh.
"You do and I'll throat punch you both," Liberty said as she came back into the room.
"It was good to see ya again babe," Drake said to get a rise out of Liberty.
"I can throat punch you now if you want," Liberty said as she started toward Drake.
"Alright, time to go," I said as I hooked my arm with hers and dragged her out of the room. Drake gave her a salute and that smug smile of his and she responded by flipping him the bird again.
We headed down the parking lot to make sure everything was secured. After I was satisfied that everything was sorted, I looked up at the dorm one last time. If anybody had told me a year ago that I'd share a room with Drake for almost a year and actually kinda miss him at the end, I'd have kicked them in the nuts, or the gut if they had been female.
I got into Bear's truck and he got into mine. Everyone else got into their rides and we pulled away from school and got on the highway. After about 15 minutes I got a text from Drake that said: looking at your empty side of the room and now I'm curled up in a ball weeping. Want to see a pic? I couldn't help but laugh. No, Drake and I still weren't friends but I was comfortable calling him a good acquaintance. Maybe someday I'd call him a friend.
BEAR'S POV
I was happy. Trey was finally done with school and we had time to spend together. While it was brief, as I had to return to school at the end of July for Fall training, I planned on spending as much time with Trey as possible. I also planned on getting him to spend more time with Prue.
I know it may seem cruel to force my fiancé to spend time with the child that I conceived while he was in a coma but he had been instrumental in getting me to stop being an ass about my daughter. He had also been steadily warming up to the idea of her. He rarely spoke to me lately without asking about her and wanting to see pics of her. I knew he'd love her once he got to know her.
We had a small summer break but I planned to make the most of it. We just had to get past Zane and Nicole's wedding first. I thought about all the things Trey, Prue, and I could do together as I arrived home and pulled into the driveway. I shut off the engine and lingered for a minute enjoying the feeling of being in Trey's truck. After all this time I still got a thrill whenever he let me drive it.
I hopped out and grabbed the bags that I decided to bring home with me. I didn't have to bring much as I would only be home for a month and I didn't have to move out of my place with Deacon. It would be weird next year as aside from myself and Kenneth all the guys I was close to on the team would be in their final year of school. Kenan had already graduated at the beginning of the month. It'd be only Kenneth and me for my final year of our little crew.
I headed toward the house. I unlocked the door and headed inside to an empty house, except for Beatrice the maid. She looked at me and my bags that she could see were headed toward the floor before giving a pointed look upstairs. I took the hint and smiled at her before taking my stuff up to my room.
When I returned to the living room, she smiled at me before heading off toward the kitchen. If I had to guess she was probably going to fix me something to eat. I went to follow her but I was distracted when I passed dad's study and heard talking.
I wasn't one to eavesdrop on conversations my dad had but I was curious this time, especially since I hadn't seen the old man for a while and was curious what he had been up to lately. I crept up to the cracked door but the voice I heard was that of my mother. She was on the phone and I paid extra attention when I heard her say Alicia's name. She was talking to someone about Alicia.
As I continued to listen, I heard her say that they had to get this done as she was tired of waiting. She listened to the person on the other end of the call for a little bit before she said anything else. Unfortunately, what she said really troubled me. She said that once this was done Alicia would regret the day she was born. Then she said that she couldn't wait for Prue to move in.
I couldn't believe what I was hearing. My mother was plotting with someone to do something to Alicia and take Prue and move her in with her and dad. While I was still very angry with Alicia, my mother scheming behind my back regarding my daughter didn't sit right with me.
"Mom, what was that?" I asked as I entered the study.
"Bear, your home," she said sounding upbeat. I knew she was stalling though.
"You heard me. What was that?" I asked more insistently.
"What?" she said while gathering some papers together in another obvious stalling tactic.
"That phone call. Are you trying to take Prue away from Alicia?" I asked, choosing to ignore whatever else she had planned. She avoided my eyes for a moment before a determined look overtook her face.
"Yes, I am," she said as she stood her ground.
"Mom, you can't," I said as I walked further into the study after closing the door.
"I can and I will," she said as she pinned me with a stony gaze.
"Why?" I asked. I wondered if there was something I didn't know.
"Bear, how can you ask that? Did you think I was just gonna let her get away with what she did to you? At the least, she took advantage of you. At most, she raped you and I'll be damned if I'm gonna let her get away with it," she said and I closed my eyes tight when she mentioned the "r" word. I understood how Trey felt whenever I heard it. I shook it off though.
"Why now after all this time? Why are you doing this now? Is it because of the paternity suit?" I asked and her eyebrows went up.
"You know about that?" She said as she crossed her arms.
"They both told me. Alicia told me when we were getting the paternity test and Trey told me when he found out about it," I said and she sighed.
"I figured Trey would tell you eventually. I'm surprised Alicia did though," she said and a thought occurred to me.
"That's why dad had me do the paternity test. So, there would be proof that she was mine. That was you?" I said and she didn't answer at first but I saw the answer in her eyes.
"I told your father what I wanted to do and he suggested the paternity test to make sure she was yours before we went any further. Also, this isn't just out of the blue. I've been planning things for a while now, even before the paternity suit thing," she said and while I was thankful that she felt all vengeful on my behalf, I couldn't let this happen.
"Mom, you can't. That's her daughter," I said and she rolled her eyes.
"And you think I wanna let that woman raise my grandchild?" she said and I sighed a heavy sigh.
"Why not?" I asked and she looked at me incredulously.
"Are you serious? Look at what she did," she said and I agreed with her for the most part but I still didn't wanna take Prue away from her mother.
"Mom, she is still Prue's mother. Prue is a happy healthy child and that's because of Alicia," I said and she rolled her eyes.
"And how do you know that?" She asked and I smiled.
"Because I took her to a doctor and had him do a complete workup of her," I said and she looked shocked.
"When?" she asked as she looked me over with an impressed look.
"About a week after I first started being her father. I took her to a doctor and he did every test they could that wouldn't hurt her. She had normal bloodwork, she had no bruises or broken bones, her teeth, hair, and nails were healthy, she was properly bathed and at a good weight and she wasn't malnourished."
"The doctor also spent some time with her alone, with me observing through a two-way mirror. She played with toys with him and was happy. He said it was important to assess her mental state and if she was happy or sad. She looked happy playing with toys by herself and with him. She wasn't timid or scared or gave any indication that she was being abused either physically or verbally."
"He assessed that she was a perfectly happy and healthy child and no matter how shocking it is to hear, Alicia did that. And don't forget that she has her parents there to help her," I said and she rolled her eyes again.
"I'm supposed to have faith in the child-rearing skills of the people that raised Alicia Lake? No thanks," Mom said and I understood where she came from.
"Mom, you know that who raises a child isn't necessarily indicative of how they turn out. Your mother raised you and you're nothing like her, and from what I can tell, neither is Aunt Dawn. You and Dad raised Brian the same way as you did Steph and me and he turned out differently. The same parents that raised Trey's dad and his younger brother also raised their older brother and look at how he turned out," I said and she looked like she was begrudgingly listening to me.
"So," she said and I almost chuckled at her childlike stubbornness. I guess what they say is true in that you never completely grow up.
"So that means that Alicia very well may be the way she is despite her upbringing and not because of it," I said and she nodded after a few moments.
"You know, you have impressed me, especially with how you thought to take her to the doctor. That's your father in you," she said with a wistful look in her eyes.
"I guess the old man rubbed off on me more than I thought," I said and she smiled.
"And I also know that Trey has rubbed off on you because you wanna forgive Alicia. I'm glad that you can be forgiving like that and I'm glad that you have him," she said and I had to smile at Trey rubbing off on me. He had in more ways than she knew. A thought occurred to me.
"I thought you told me that Prue should be more important to me than Trey," I said and her eyebrows shot up.
"I never said that," she said but she kinda did.
"You kinda did," I reminded her and her head dropped briefly as she likely recalled it.
"Well, I didn't mean it like that. I never want you to think that I don't value your relationship with Trey. I'm happy that you have him and he's teaching you forgiveness," she said and I smiled as did she. Then her expression changed and she reminded me so much of her mother.
"I'm not forgiving her though," she said in a cold tone. I started to interrupt her but she shook her head. "She hurt you. She did something that I can't forgive, that I won't forgive and that she will pay for," she said and I didn't like the way she sounded.
"Mom, you can't," I tried again. I had no idea why I was fighting this so hard considering what I felt toward Alicia.
"No Bear. Your father and I are gonna do this and more. Nobody gets away with hurting my child," she said and the dangerous tone in her voice was much too familiar. I walked over to the sofa and took a seat. I took a deep breath and did what I hadn't done yet, I let my feelings about this whole situation out.
"Mom, I look at Prue's face every day. I either pull up her pictures on my phone or call and see her over Skype. I look at her eyes that are mine, eyes that are dad's, I look at her smile which is yours, and I smile. Then I look at her nose and her hair which she gets from Alicia and I get angry. I remember how she got here; what Alicia took from me."
"Not only did she take advantage of me when I was at my lowest, when I was drunk out of my mind and seeking oblivion, but she also got pregnant and kept it from me. I think about that and I get angrier still. But when I think of what all that almost cost me, that I almost lost Trey, I find myself wanting to put my hands around her throat and squeeze until she's no longer breathing," I said, my voice breaking at the end. My mother's face went from having a deep frown to looking almost like she wanted to cry. She walked over and sat down next to me and placed a hand on my arm which still was able to calm me even at my age.
"Bear, don't you see. What you just told me only makes me want to make her pay even more," she said and I gave her as much of a smile as I could.
"I know, but that's not why I said that. She almost cost me Trey who's one of the most important people in my life and I hate her for that. Then I realize that anything I do to her I'll be doing to my child's mother and that's what stops me. Because, no matter what Alicia did, she still Prue's mother, and just like she needed her father, she needs her mother too".
"Now, I don't know if it was Alicia's intent that night to just be a friend and ended up taking advantage of an opportunity that presented itself to her or if she came to get me with the sole intention to get me drunk and have sex with me. Only she knows what was in her head and I can't trust anything she'd say," I said and Mom started to interrupt but I held my hand up.
"I can't trust what she'd say in regards to that. What I do think is that she had no intention to get pregnant, which she did. No matter what kind of conniving and deceitful person Alicia is, she has for the most part been a good mother to Prue. She's happy and healthy and for that, I can tolerate Alicia if it means keeping my daughter's world intact."
"I can tolerate her because of that day at the carnival when I looked into her eyes, I felt my world shift, I felt a pull to her from deep within me. When I hugged her for the first time, I fell in love with her, with my child. I will do whatever I can for her, no matter how much it hurts me," I finished and my mother looked slightly stricken.
"Bear, that not what I meant when I told you that she was your responsibility," she said before standing up and walking over to the mantle above the fireplace.
"Mom," I said as I got up and went to her. I heard a sniffle from her when I laid my hand on her shoulder.
"I feel like I handled this whole thing wrong. Heaven knows that I wouldn't have told Stephanie to just suck it up and let her rapist be a part of her life. He wouldn't have even had a life if I had a say in the matter and the same goes for your father," she said and I couldn't stop the slight chuckle that escaped me.
"Mom," I said before turning her around to face me. Tears were streaming down her face and I wiped them away with my thumbs. "You didn't tell me anything like that. You told me to be there for my daughter, which I am. You said nothing about Alicia," I said and she tried to get control of herself.
"Still, I feel like I failed you as a mother. You're being so strong in a situation that you don't have to be in," she said and I shook my head no.
"No, I do have to be in it. No matter how she came to be, Prue needs me. And as for me being strong, I'm not as strong as I seem. I couldn't do this without Trey. He's helping me do this even though he probably doesn't even realize it. I couldn't do this without him. I probably would have already killed Alicia if it weren't for him keeping me sane".
"Hell, I almost did it anyway when she told me about the paternity suit. The only thing that stopped me was that there were witnesses and that I didn't wanna go to prison and be away from Trey," I said and she nodded, probably because she didn't wanna speak and get emotional again.
"He and that band of crazy people you call your friends would probably break you out," she finally said and I laughed as did she a little.
"You might be right about that," I said and she laughed a little more. She hugged me tightly for a bit. When we separated, I saw that she had tears in her eyes but she was smiling so I wasn't worried.
We talked for a few more minutes before Beatrice came into the study to tell us that lunch was ready. We headed to the kitchen to have thick roast beef sandwiches, green salad, and some really good lemonade. I managed to put away 3 sandwiches and two servings of salad all while my mother shook her head at me and my appetite.
Beatrice cleared up everything once we were finished while mom went back to dad's study. I thought to ask what she was about to do but I decided to trust that my talk had gotten through to her and that she would back off on whatever she had planned for Alicia. I guess I had to wait and see what happened though and hoped that I could fix it if things went badly.
TREY'S POV
I arrived home and parked in the driveway next to an unknown car. I wondered who it could be but there were too many possibilities. I hopped out of Bear's truck and looked around. I almost laughed when I looked down the street and saw Mr. Cryer on a ladder cleaning out his gutters. I seemed to always come home for breaks to find him on or near his roof.
He seemed to sense someone was looking his way because he looked my way and when he saw me, he smiled and waved and I waved back. He gave a nod of his head before going back to his chore. I turned and headed inside.
Once I was inside it was like all the tension and stress of the last 5 or so months started to ease. The familiar feeling of being at home was like a wave of relaxation. I knew it wasn't gonna last long but I hoped to take advantage of it before diving back into the massive lake of schoolwork.
Once I recovered from the feeling of being back at home I listened and heard quite a few female voices coming from the living room. I only recognized one of them to be my mother. I headed into the living room to see my mother along with Nicole, her sister Amanda, and two other women that I didn't know.
"Hello ladies," I said as I entered the room. Mama looked up and smiled.
"Hey, baby," she said as she left the other ladies and came over to hug me. I felt her arms around me and I started to relax even more.
"What's going on in here?" I asked after we separated.
"Wedding stuff," Nicole said unenthusiastically from the chair she was in.
"Ladies, this is my firstborn, Trey. Trey that's Ada, Nicole's aunt, her sister Amanda, and her mother Yolanda," Mama said finishing the introductions.
"Hello," they said in unison. I had already met Amanda once at Zane's apartment but I just said hello in return.
"Where's Calvin. I need his help to unload my truck," I said as I looked the ladies over. Nicole didn't look all that happy from what I could see.
"He's somewhere with that girl," Mama groused. I'd noticed lately that whenever she spoke to me of Anika, she had not done so kindly. I just hoped that she wasn't doing that in front of Calvin.
"I'll help," Nicole said as she jumped up.
"Nicole, don't you think you need to be in here with us helping with the wedding planning? After all, it's your wedding," her mother said but Nicole just rolled her eyes.
"Actually, I think I should help out the brother of my soon-to-be husband. After all, we'll be family in less than a week," she said with a toothy smile that was entirely too fake.
"You don't have to," I said but she wasn't having it.
"Don't be silly. I'm helping," she said then looped her arm with mine and dragged me towards the front door effectively ending anymore conversation on the subject.
We headed outside and started to unload my stuff. I decided that we'd take everything up to the door then move it into the house. I made sure I got all the heavier stuff. I looked over at Nicole as she came back from taking a couple of duffel bags to the door.
"I take it they're getting on your nerves," I said with an uncontrollably amused smile.
"You don't know the half of it," she said before letting loose an exasperated sigh.
"Well, look on the bright side. The wedding is less than a week away. It's almost over," I said which prompted a frustrated sigh from her.
"Yeah, I know. The wedding day will be worse," she said before leaning against the side of my truck.
"Try not to look at it like that. Try to just keep in mind that you and Zane will be married soon and all this frustration will be in the past," I said and she looked thoughtful for a minute before a small smile graced her lips.
"Thanks," she said before standing back up and giving me a quick hug.
"Well, let's get finished with this," I said and we went back to the truck and I saw a problem. There was no way I was getting my mini-fridge in by myself and I wasn't about to have Nicole help me. I started to try to do it anyway as Bear had been able to get it down to my truck by himself.
"Need some help?" We heard. I looked up and saw Mr. Reyes-Ortiz coming to a stop near the back of my truck.
"Well," I said as I wasn't sure about imposing on a neighbor whom I didn't know that well.
"Yes, he does," Nicole said and I rolled my eyes. She was already acting like my sister-in-law being all pushy and in my business.
"Thanks, if you don't mind," I said sheepishly.
He hopped into the bed of my truck and pushed the fridge to the edge of the tailgate. Then he hopped down and I thought he would ask me to help him but he was able to get the fridge and set it down on the ground himself. He was stronger than he looked.
Nicole ran into the house and pressed the button to open the garage and Mr. Reyes-Ortiz picked up the fridge and carried it to the garage and set it down where Nicole directed him to. I would keep it there until I returned to school in the fall.
Once that was done, I planned to thank him but he insisted on helping me with the rest of my stuff as well. Nicole "supervised" as we got my stuff into the house. I just got it piled near the door as I could get Calvin to help me get my stuff to my room whenever he got home.
When that was done Mama came in and looked at my stuff piled in her entryway and glared at me but I just smiled. She spoke to Mr. Reyes-Ortiz and they talked for a few minutes, mostly about his wife. She thanked him for helping me and told him that she'd bake them a cake as thanks. He looked happy to hear that so I guess he'd tasted my mother's cooking before.
He left after another few minutes and that left Nicole to go back and suffer her family. I sat and watched as Mama and her mother went back and forth about the wedding plans with Nicole's sister and aunt jumping in to add their two cents. Nicole looked like she was seriously considering eloping by the time Dad came home.
He hugged me then kissed Mama on the cheek and she tried to hide a smile that made me smile as I was happy to see them still being obviously into each other. He spoke to Nicole and her family and stayed and watched the fray for a few minutes before he made his exit to the backyard.
Bear called after a bit and asked if I needed help unloading my truck. I told him that I had managed but that I could use some help unloading something else, making sure to use enough innuendo that he got my meaning. I could practically hear the grin on his face over the phone as he said some filthy things back to me. I was glad that I was in my room at the time as I had to "take care of things" with his deep baritone in my ear to help me along.
When I was finished and he had gloated about his ability to make me cum over the phone, we talked about other things and he told me about what he had arrived home to and the conversation he'd had with his mother. I could tell that he wasn't telling me everything but I decided that that was okay as he'd tell me when I needed to hear it. We talked a bit more before we got off the phone.
Calvin came home just after Nicole and her family left and I had to wonder if he'd timed it that way. I wouldn't put it past him to become scarce just in case they wanted him to do anything. He helped me get my stuff up to my room and Mama breathed a sigh of relief that her entryway was free of my "junk" as she had called it.
Mama made tuna salad with chips and iced tea for dinner and I had to marvel at how she could make such a simple thing as tuna salad taste so good. Once everyone had eaten their fill, I helped Mama clean up and it was nice to be home and around the family again.
I spent some time organizing my room before hopping into bed. I texted with my friends a bit before I spent a few hours talking to Bear on the phone. I had a brief thought that even after all these years of us knowing each other that we still hadn't run out of things to say to one another. I hoped that would last.
I was having a good dream about Bear, not a filthy one, but a good one nonetheless. I was awakened from this dream by someone lying down on my bed next to me. Once I realized what had awakened me, I smiled and opened my eyes, but Bear was not the one looking back at me.
"Ahhh!" I yelled as I moved back from the face that had started me.
"Good morning to you too sweetheart," said the person in my bed with an amused smirk on their face. That person was Nicole.
"What the hell are you doing in my bed?" I asked incredulously as I pulled the covers up over my body more. I was wearing only my underwear but I felt naked.
"Oh, come on Trey. This can't be the first time you've woken up to a woman in your bed," she said still with that amused smirk.
"It most certainly is," I said feeling insulted for some weird reason.
"Trey, what's wro...," Calvin started to ask as he barged into my room. He'd likely heard me yell. He was now looking at the scene in my room with a stunned look on his face.
"This isn't what it looks like," I said quickly.
"It is what it looks like," Nicole said as she reached over and stroked my cheek. I moved back instantly. I tried to tell him she was joking but he held up his hand and slowly back out of the room closing the door behind him.
"Are you crazy?" I asked before getting out of my bed. I made sure to grab my pillow and cover my crotch just in case. She just chuckled at that.
"A little bit," she said as she got up as well.
"What are you doing in my room anyway?" I asked as I headed for my closet to get some clothes on.
"Your mother sent me up here to wake you up. I just decided to have some fun," she said and I could practically hear the amusement in her voice. She was getting too much like Zane for my liking.
"My mother knows you're up here? What if Calvin tells her what he saw?" I asked as I stuck my head out of the closet.
"Relax, it's not like anyone would believe you'd sleep with a woman," she said and again I felt offended.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked as I again stuck my head out of the closet.
"Never mind," she said with a smirk that could have come from Drake.
"No, what do you mean by that?" I asked. I couldn't figure out why I felt so offended. I was gay after all and after bedding Bear, I couldn't imagine sleeping with anyone else, especially a woman.
"I... think I'll leave you to get dressed. That way you won't have to hide in the closet," she said before giggling and leaving my room. I shook my head at the woman who was about to become my sister-in-law and wondered if I could take any more Zane in my life.
I decided I'd take a quick shower instead so I gathered some clothes and headed for the bathroom. I took care of business and hopped in the shower and enjoyed the hot rain of water. After I was sure I was clean I hopped out and dried off. I brushed my teeth and put on my clothes. I checked myself in the mirror and was satisfied with what I saw.
I left the bathroom and headed back to my room to make my bed. I then grabbed my wallet, phone, and keys before heading downstairs. When I entered the kitchen, I saw Nicole and she looked at me weirdly.
"I guess I was wrong," she said with a teasing smile.
"What?" I asked as I looked at her curiously.
"Good morning, Trey," Mama said as she looked at me weirdly. I wondered what it was about before it clicked what it could be.
"Oh, come on Mama. I'm gay. You know this," I said but she only squinted at me.
"Uh-huh," she said as she kept looking at me.
"I guess the jig is up. We'd better reveal our secret love affair," Nicole said before she blew me a kiss.
"What is up with you today?" I asked as I looked at her incredulously. I'd known Nicole to mess with Zane a lot but this was the first time she was doing so to me.
"Well, I'm about to be your sis-in-law, a.k.a, your sister and it's a sister's job to mess with her brother from time to time," she said with an amused smile. I just rolled my eyes.
"I agree. It is part of the job requirement to mess with your sibling," Mama said with her own amused smile.
"Uh-huh," I said with my arms crossed and shook off how similarly I'd sounded to Mama when she'd said it earlier.
"Speaking of which," she said before taking out her phone and searching for something. She then selected something and put the phone to her ear. "Hello, Janice, good morning," she said and listened to Aunt Janice a bit before frowning. "It's your sister, Olivia, like it should have said on your phone," she said as her frown deepened. She listened for another little bit. "Well, what name do you have my number under?" She asked and rolled her eyes after listening to Aunt Janice a bit more. "Goodbye, Janice," Mama finally said before ending the call and looking exasperated.
"Wasn't that supposed to go the other way?" Nicole asked while trying to not laugh.
"What name did she have your number under?" I asked because it had to be good with the way she was looking.
"Bighead," she groused and I couldn't stop the laugh the erupted from me.
"Well, it is kinda-" I started before Nicole jumped up and covered my mouth.
"He didn't mean what he was about to say," she said as Mama was focusing a serious glare at me.
"When is your family descending on my house?" Mama asked Nicole after taking a few seconds to calm down.
"In a few hours," Nicole said sounding like the joy had been knocked out of her.
"Cheer up. It's almost over," Mama said as she leaned over and patted her hand. Nicole just let out a long breath.
"I hear you're sleeping with my soon-to-be wife," Zane said as he walked into the kitchen trying to look mad.
"I see Calvin is still a big-mouthed gossip," I said to Mama after looking at Zane to make sure he didn't believe anything stupid.
"Worse than church ladies," Mama said and I almost laughed as I'd had the same thought many times in the past.
"Zane, I didn't mean for you to find out this way," Nicole said doing her best to sound distressed.
"Uh-huh," Zane said and I almost laughed at that too as he sounded like Mama too. Maybe some traits were learned and not inherited between parents and kids.
Dad came in from the backyard and greeted Zane and Nicole and said good morning to me. He checked how breakfast was going before heading for the garage. Soon enough, breakfast was done, and Calvin and the twins came down to eat. I glared at him for spreading gossip and he at least had the sense to look sorry.
Bear and our friends, minus Sean, came over after breakfast. Both Bear and Jessica looked disappointed that they'd missed breakfast and I messed with them by telling them how good it was and making a show out of rubbing my belly and licking my lips. Jessica looked incensed while Bear looked slightly turned on. I ignored it though and continued to socialize with my friends which he noticed and pouted over.
Nicole's family arrived after 1 pm. It was not just her mother, sister, and aunt though. Along with them was her younger brother who was a year younger than Calvin, her 4 cousins, 3 of which were dudes slightly older than me, 2 more aunts, and Marty, her oldest friend.
When he saw me, he winked at me with a knowing smile. Bear noticed and grunted as he moved to stand as close to me as possible. I just rolled my eyes and stepped away from him. Nicole flicked his ear in warning as she invited everyone inside.
There was a lot of talking, mostly from the ladies. It was so boring to me listening to talk of flowers and decorations and music and dresses but I guess I needed to pay attention to at least some of this for my own upcoming wedding in a couple of years.
Veronica wanted to be the wedding singer and Nicole agreed without hesitation. I could tell her mother was against the idea but held her tongue. Her aunt Rita didn't though, wanting to know what Veronica's "claim to fame" was. Veronica stood up and belted out a soulful rendition of "Lorrell Loves Jimmy" from Dreamgirls. There weren't any more objections meanwhile I was silently wondering who had hurt my Veronica for her to sing so soulfully.
Around late afternoon Mama decided to shoo the men off since most of us were looking bored out of our minds. Zane made to leave with us and while Mama and Nicole's mother started to tell him no, Nicole just kissed him and told him to have fun. I could see in her eyes that she wanted to tell him to take her with him but she held her tongue.
We left the house with Carter, Christian, and Dale riding with Bear. Calvin and Zane riding with me, and Nicole's brother and cousins riding with Marty. Sean called me on the way and I told him to meet us at the park which he agreed to.
When we arrived, we piled out and headed towards a secluded area cause I could tell we'd probably get pretty loud. That became more likely when Sean arrived with Alex and beer he'd managed to score with his fake ID. We wouldn't need any fake IDs in a few months and I was glad of that.
"Where did you get that beer, Mellow?" Zane asked Sean in his most serious tone after he and Alex had dropped the cooler they were carrying.
"From the store?" Sean said looking confused. It then seemed to dawn on him that he wasn't just talking to Zane Healey, his best bud's brother, but Officer Healey, a cop.
"Is that right?" Zane said sounding even more serious with his arms folded. Then he actually pulled his badge from his pocket and rubbed it against his chin as if he were trying to be nonchalant.
"Uh, well, you see," Sean stammered and I fought to suppress a laugh.
"You're stupid," Bear said before slapping him on the back and walking away.
"Chill Mellow I was just yanking your chain. I'm no stranger to underage drinking, and most of you lot are like only a few months out from being legal," Zane said before he walked over and grabbed a beer from the cooler.
"Cool," Sean said with a smile before he too went to grab one.
"Yeah, cool," Calvin said as he and Alex next grabbed a beer from the cooler.
"Thank you, that's so nice of you," I said as I relieved them of their beverages. I handed one to Bear and then opened the other and took a swig.
"Not cool man," Alex said in his most Sean-like pout. As I looked him over, he was becoming more and more like Sean. They looked very similar down to their hair color. Alex wasn't as big as Sean was though. He was leaner while his brother was muscular. He was definitely outclassed by Calvin though as aside from height where they were near equal, Calvin outweighed him as quite a bit in muscle. It was like night as day, in more ways than one.
"So, Zane, what's it like knowing your about to be balled and chained?" Christian joked as he grabbed a beer for himself and Carter.
"Hey man, I can't wait. It's gonna be so nice when this whole wedding thing is over so Nicole and I can just enjoy marriage," he said before taking another sip of his beer.
"I'll bet. Your girl looks stressed man," Carter said before opening his beer and taking it to the head. He downed the whole thing in one go and let out a big belch.
"Yup," Zane said likely choosing to not elaborate as some of her family members were here.
"Nikki's just being high maintenance. She'll chill out once she's in her dress," Marty said as he grabbed a beer for himself. He then opened it, took a swig, and shot me a wink and a smile. I heard Bear grunt again next to me. This man just had to be part animal. He just had to be with some of his mannerisms. I didn't put too much thought into it though as the idea was weirdly turning me on a little bit and I did not wanna find out I was into Beastiality. There's only so much the heart can take.
"I'll bet there's one thing you're looking forward to," Sean said with a shit-eating grin as he slung an arm across Zane's shoulders.
"He's already had that," I said and when he looked at me with wide eyes I just smiled and winked at him.
"Don't listen to this jackass. I am looking forward to the honeymoon," Zane said and his eyes lit up something fierce. I tried not to think too much about it lest I become ill.
We continued to discuss Zane's impending wedding and marriage for a bit before veering off to talk about other stuff. I noticed that Nicole's brother and cousins hadn't said much of anything and one of her cousins frowned when Bear leaned over and kissed my cheek. He wasn't too obvious about it but I at least noticed.
As we talked I noticed that Calvin was subtly easing over toward the cooler. I watched him out the corner of my eye and when he thought we were sufficiently distracted he quickly reached in and grabbed a beer. I moved quickly.
"Thanks, I needed another," I said as I took the can from him. I opened it and took a swig of the beer and grinned at him. The truth was I didn't really care if he had a beer as I'm sure he'd already had his fair share with how much I heard he partied. I just wanted to yank his chain a bit.
"Dude, would you step off," Calvin said looking annoyed now.
"Can't. I am your big brother after all. Gotta look after you," I said with a grin that I knew would annoy him more.
"Who's the big brother now?" He said as he stepped up to me and with his full height, he was definitely much taller. I cursed my short genes.
"That don't mean nothing. I'm still your big brother," I said but now he was aiming a grin back at me.
"I'm bigger than you though small fry," he said with a wicked grin that he seemed to have picked up during my time away from home. I didn't like it.
"Cal," Zane said in a warning tone.
"I'm just telling the truth," he said and that grin got even more wicked. I had to wipe it off his face.
"That may be but I'll bet I'm still "top dog" if you know what I mean," I said with what I hoped was my own wicked grin. I know he realized what I was talking about as his eyebrows went up.
"Trey!" Zane said sharply. I looked over and he was looking warily at his soon-to-be brother and cousins-in-law. Everybody had varying degrees of either shock or amusement on their faces. Bear was displaying both. He was versatile after all.
"Oh snap," I heard Dale say as I looked back at Calvin.
"I'm willing to bet I've edged you out. I mean, look at me," he said with too much confidence.
"Well, there is no way to know for sure so I'm gonna hold on to my title," I said with my own level of confidence.
"There is a way unless you're scared," Calvin challenged. He was really getting too big for his britches. Not too big I hoped.
"You can't be serious," I said now wary myself. I looked over at the crowd and saw that everyone was watching us like we were a tennis match. Bear looked very curious.
"I am unless you're scared," Calvin said again and his cockiness was reaching new heights.
"I ain't scared of you, "little" brother," I said emphasizing little.
"This can't be happening. They can't be proposing a dick measuring contest, especially out here in the opening," I heard Nicole's cousin Demack say.
"I hope so," Marty said sounding much too excited at the prospect.
"I'll do it," Alex said sounding much too eager and I almost laughed.
"Dude, stop being so thirsty. At least have some chill," Sean said and some of us laughed.
"You're one to talk Mr. Bi-curious," Alex countered, and Sean's joking grin vanished and he flushed beet red.
"How do you know about that?" Sean asked as he quickly glanced over at me.
"Uh, I have eyes," he said before he rolled his eyes like it was obvious.
"What is going on?" Nicole's cousin Clay asked looking dumbfounded.
"Don't stress it too much. We're a weird group, man," Carter said with an amused expression.
"Getting back to the subject at hand, let's do this," Calvin said never losing that cocky grin of his.
"Dudes, there's no way this is happening," Zane said finally jumping in like the big brother he was supposed to be.
"Yeah, he's right," I said trying to sound disappointed. The truth was that this was getting out of hand.
"So, you are scared?" Calvin asked with his hands on his waist, trying to strike an imposing pose.
"Let's do this," I said, falling for his goading.
"Ugh," Zane said with a frustrated grunt.
"How do you even plan to do this?" Bear asked, finally jumping in. He looked moderately intrigued. I could tell by the look in his eyes that he would have questions for me later.
"Just whip 'em out?" Marty said, sounding much too excited.
"Dude," Nicole's brother Brandon said sounding annoyed. I noticed Nicole's cousin Terrence, the one who was frowning at Bear when he kissed me was looking slightly grossed out by this whole thing.
"You each should take a pic," Carter started.
"A dick pic," Marty added with a cheesy grin.
"And compare," Carter finished.
"That won't work. The pics won't accurately portray the right measurement without the same angle, lighting, and such," Demack said, and I was shocked he was jumping into this.
"You need a judge to look and compare in person," Clay said, and again I was shocked.
"What the hell is wrong with you two?" Terrence said, looking very put out with this whole situation.
"Just having fun. Relax, dude," Demack said to which Terrence let out a disgusted grunt.
"I'll do it," Alex said, and I wondered if he was serious.
"No, I'll do it to put an end to this childish nonsense," Zane said, sounding so over this.
"Fine," I said as I narrowed my eyes at Calvin.
"Let's do this," he said, never losing his cocky grin.
Zane looked around before he told us to follow him. Marty let out a disappointed groan to which Carter patted him on the back. We followed Zane until we arrived at the park's men's room. It was relatively clean inside, with a few stalls and about 8 urinals lined up on the opposite wall.
"Alright, drop 'em," Zane said. He looked and sounded like he couldn't believe that he was being subjected to his younger brothers' foolishness. Calvin wasted no time while I took my time. Once we were both exposed, I took a moment to first appreciate how stupid this whole thing was. I mean what if somebody walked in on us. Second, I looked at Calvin and I could see that at least soft he did have me beat.
"See, I told you," Calvin gloated.
"We gotta be hard to truly see," I said, and hearing myself say this made me realize how stupid I'd been to start this whole thing. I thought about the fact that I was about to see my little brother's dick hard on and I had to admit that it wasn't even on the list of things I ever wanted to experience. Maybe a nice traumatic brain injury would happen afterward to make me forget.
"Uh, okay," Calvin said finally sounding unsure.
"Well, let's do this," I said before I closed my eyes and pictured Bear naked. I imagined him kissing the spot behind my ear that drove me wild and before I knew it, I could tell that I was fully hard. I opened my eyes and saw that Calvin was too. I noticed that he didn't grow much hard and that's where I had him beat. I was a grower, not a shower.
"Well, who wins," Calvin said but I could tell he probably knew.
"This is probably the weirdest thing to ever happen to me. I mean if something weirder is gonna happen I hope I'm not conscious to register it," Zane said.
"Just get it over with Zane," I said fed up with this too. A dick measuring contest with your little brother might sound good in theory but the actual experience was not to be desired.
"Fine," Zane said before leaning a little closer with a frown on his face. After a few seconds, he finally stood up. "Trey is bigger," he said before turning his back to us with a grossed-out look on his face.
"See," I said with a grin as I stuffed my dick back into my pants.
"Yours probably just looks bigger cause you're so small," Calvin groused as he did the same.
"Let's go," Zane ordered before practically fleeing the men's room.
We followed Zane and headed back to the rest of our group. I was smiling and Calvin was frowning when we made it back. Zane grabbed another beer and downed the whole thing in one go.
"Anybody got any eye bleach?" Zane asked while trying to catch his breath from gunning the beer in one go. There were a few laughs
"Still?" Bear asked as I sidled up to his side and took a seat next to him.
"Yup," I said with a triumphant grin. Sean patted me on the back while Alex comforted Calvin.
"How do we know for sure? I think we need another impartial judge," Marty said and Bear grunted again with a frown.
"How about we change the subject," Zane said before grabbing another beer.
We did change the subject. We talked about the summer. Bear and the guys tried to get to know Nicole's brother and cousins better. They all contributed to the conversation except Terrence. He was stuck up and it was more than a little obvious that he wasn't too keen on gay people. Any time Bear so much as touched me or Marty made some gay joke he would frown and try to hide how much he didn't wanna see or hear it. I held my tongue though as I probably wouldn't even see this dude again after the wedding
After dark, we were summoned back home where we were joined by Dad and Nicole's father Isaiah and everybody was fed. That was quite the feat as it was a lot of us and I lamented the fact that Mama wouldn't be catering the wedding but Zane was adamant that his mother not have to cook for his wedding. He wanted to enjoy the day with his family and Mama dealing with getting people fed and managing a whole crew would tie her up pretty much throughout the whole reception.
After we had eaten there were more plans made before Nicole's family as well as my friends and Bear vacated our house. It felt practically empty with the immediate family plus Nicole. She and Zane left after 10 and we all headed up to bed.
Bear and I exchanged texts before going to sleep. Sure enough, he wanted to know what was up with me challenging my brother to a dick measuring contest in the park. I corrected him and said technically Calvin made the challenge. He asked what happened in the bathroom. I told him that even though I was still "top dog", Calvin was closer than I'd expected. He sent back a bunch of crying laughing emojis. We texted a few more minutes before we said our I love yous and good nights.
The wedding hall looked amazing. Red and white touches were everywhere. There were dozens and dozens of chairs draped in white cloth that had red and white flowers pinned to them. A long white carpet led to a Wedding arch with Red, white, and pink flowers affixed to it along with some greenery. The end of the aisles opposite the carpet had tall bushes with white flowers on them. It looked great.
The bridal party "basically most of the women involved with the wedding had a whole suite to themselves to get ready. This included Nicole's Maid-of-Honor, her sister Amanda, and her bridesmaids who were Ivy, Jessica, Liberty, Justice, Nicole's cousin Stacey, and her friend Amy who had barely made it into town in time for the wedding. My sisters were also in there as they were the flower girls and of course the mothers.
The groom's party had the same. The dads were in there along with Alvis who was the Best Man, and Leo, Calvin, Bear, Nicole's brother Brandon, Marty, and I who were the groomsmen. Calvin was trying not to look bummed that Zane had chosen his best friend as his best man while Nicole had chosen her sister. I had already explained that he'd have to choose between us which wasn't fair so I'd just told him to choose Alvis.
"Well, D-Day has arrived," Leo joked trying to sound somber.
"Yeah man, today, we lose a brother," Alvis said before they both embraced and pretended to cry. We all laughed as Zane flipped them the bird before slipping on his tux jacket.
Zane wore a black tux with a red vest and red bowtie while the groomsmen wore white tuxes and red bowties. Alvis had an added red boutonniere as the best man. The bridesmaids would be in red dresses with Amanda having an added red and white wrist corsage as the maid-of-honor. Nicole of course would wear a white vintage off-the-shoulder Wedding Gown.
We continued getting dressed and once we were all done, we looked good. The best-dressed bunch of dudes I'd seen in a minute. Leo wanted to take a selfie so we all bunched together and he got his shot after a bit of situating.
Nicole's Dad asked to speak to Zane for a minute and they walked over to a corner to get some privacy. After a few minutes of talking to themselves, they both smiled, and Mr. Watson patted Zane on the shoulder. He then announced that he was going to check on Nicole. Brandon and Marty decided they'd go along with him.
"Well, it's almost time," Dad said as he came from the door talking to somebody.
"Yeah," Zane said and he sounded a bit nervous. Dad looked at him and I could see the glisten in his eyes from unshed tears.
"While I don't regret my life with Livvie, I wish your mother could be here to see you," Dad said and I got what he meant so I wasn't mad. I wished too that Zane's birth mother could have been at his wedding even if that meant that me, Calvin, and the twins wouldn't have been born. At least not as we were anyway.
"Me too dad," Zane said before a look of guilt crossed his face, and looked over at me and Calvin.
"Dude, stop trippin'. We know what you meant," Calvin said and I was glad he was mature enough to reassure Zane about secretly wishing his birth mother could be there.
"I love you my son, my firstborn. I'm so proud of the man you are and I know that you're gonna do your best to be a good husband to Nicole. That's what I expect of you and I know you can do it," Dad said getting choked up near the end.
"Thanks, Dad. Just as I told Mr. Watson, I will do everything in my power to be the man that Nicole deserves," Zane said getting emotional as well. They then shared a bear hug.
"After today, you're starting your own family. I can't wait to see your family and hopefully some grandchildren soon. I'm not getting any younger after all," Dad said and Calvin snorted.
"Dad," Zane groused.
"I had to slip that in there for posterity," Dad said with a teasing grin before chuckling. I heard some snickers from across the room and turned to see Bear, Alvis, and Leo trying to hide their amusement.
"Hey sweetie," Mama said as she slipped into the room.
"Hey Ma," Zane said with a smile.
"Look at my handsome baby. I hope Nicole recognizes what she getting," Mama said and Calvin scoffed.
"Ma," Zane groused while trying to hide his blush at being complimented.
"I'm serious. I'm so happy for you and I want you to know that I love you," she said before pulling him down and placing a kiss on his cheek.
"I love you too Ma," Zane said before pulling her into a hug. They separated after a minute.
"You know, I promised your mother I'd love you like my own. While I wish she could have been here to see you, I'm happy I got the privilege to raise you, to watch you grow up and become a great man," Mama said getting choked up.
"Aw Ma," Zane said before hugging her again. I heard sniffles from both of them and when I heard some coming from next to me, I turned and saw Calvin trying to control himself. I felt Bear's arms wrap around me from behind and I realized I needed him then. He was always so in tuned to my emotional state.
"Now," Mama said after she and Zane had separated and she's fixed her face. "I wanted to give you something," she said before opening her bag and looking inside. She searched for a minute before frowning.
"Did you forget it?" Dad asked and she rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, I left it on our dresser," she said looking annoyed with herself for forgetting something that seemed so important.
"Ma, it's okay. I don't need anything. I already have everything I need with you all here," Zane said and she smiled. I could tell she wanted to give whatever it was to him though.
"I'll go get it," I said as I extracted myself from Bear's arms.
"No, that's okay dude," Zane said but I insisted.
"I'll just run over and be right back," I said before turning and heading to the door.
"If you're sure," Mama called out.
"I am," I said. I looked at Bear and I could tell he wanted to come along but that wasn't a good idea. He looked so good in his tux that I would find it hard to keep my hands off of him once we were alone. He saw this and grinned that salacious grin of his and winked at me.
I considered peeking in on Nicole but I wanted to be surprised with how the ladies looked. I headed outside and hopped in my truck and sped home. I ran a red light and I almost hit a car that darted out into the road without warning. I made it home in record time and headed for the house. I had gotten a text from Bear on the way so I checked it as I unlocked the door. It said he knew what I was thinking and that he was gonna let me have my way with him later. I tried to keep the image of a naked Bear from flashing in my head and was mostly successful.
I finished unlocking the door and started to open the door before somebody grabbed me violently from behind and shoved me inside. I tried to fight as the door was slammed and a cloth was placed over my mouth and nose. I couldn't stop myself from inhaling and whatever I'd inhaled on the cloth had me fading fast. After another few seconds, I felt my body go limp and I felt darkness coming over me. I was dropped to the floor and I tried to look up to see who'd jumped me but it was no good as that was when the light finally went out...
Author's notes:
Hello everybody and welcome back to the story after so very long.
Things have been hectic in my life the last 2+ years. I've dealt with some things both good and bad. most importantly I've been dealing with some health problems both my own and my immediate family members. My own health problems have been compounded with 2 bouts with Covid just this year. I'm doing okay now and I've gotten back into writing after a hiatus that I took from earlier this year. I've actually had this chapter and the next chapter done since earlier this year but life got in the way. You'll see what I mean after reading the Editor's notes for this chapter and next. I apologize for it taking over 2 and a half years to update the story. I hope to never leave that long again.
Anyway, we return after Bear and Trey expose Mike's plans to break them up. After Telling some of their friends Justice wants to monitor everybody's electronics regularly. After bidding Drake adieu Trey and the gang return home for the summer to get ready for Zane and Nicole's wedding. After a serious conversation between Bear and his mother and a very weird "Bachelor Party" for Zane, its the day of the wedding. There's touching moments between Zane and his parents before Olivia remembers that she left something that she wanted to give Zane at home. Trey volunteers to retrieve it before he's jumped.
Who had knocked him out and why? Find out in the next chapter of The Chronicles of Trey.

Editor's notes:
Happy New Year everyone.
It's been a long time but we are back with another chapter of Trey and Bears Life. Looks like the wedding is happening and there maybe another person that will cause conflict in the chapters to come later from Nicole's side of the family. What was up with the whole bachelor party gone crazy.
The year has been a quick one and crazy just like last but here is hoping for a better year in 22. Hope you are all staying health and safe out there in this crazy world. Also, on a side note how many of you have seen the new Spider-Man. SO GOOD.
Send us your feedback we love hearing from you. You can reach Nicky at the email up above and me over at jd.kaster1987@gmail.com.
Until next time,
