"With the power invested in me by Her Majesty's Government and in so much as Edward and Theodore have pledged their love for each other in the presence of their families and friends; it is my pleasure to pronounce them as husbands for life."
She smiled and looked at Edward, "You may kiss your husband."
"I've been waiting for that all day." Edward leaned in and placed a soul searing kiss on Teddy. He quickly forgot they weren't alone as he lost himself in the kiss.
The members of the regiment that were present let out a collective yell at the kiss. Edward laughed and Teddy could feel himself blush. Everyone stood and cheered and they both blushed deeper at that.

Listening to the music as they moved together, Teddy had his head on Edward's chest. The reception was going as well as the ceremony had. Everyone was enjoying themselves and the music added to the environment.
Edward tilted his head closer towards Teddy's ear, "What are you thinking?"
A smile came across Ted's face, "That I never would have imagined this day. Do you realize we just had a civil partnership ceremony? That we're pretty much married now? Not to mention, I have a child now. I am hitched to the most amazingly sexy man on the planet. Then to top it off, there are two honest to God princes here."
"Babe, you're rambling again." Edward laughed as he said it.
"Sorry, my mind is going a million different directions at the same time." He placed his head back against Edward's chest. This was the fifth or sixth dance they had enjoyed together. As the song ended and another one started, Ted could feel someone behind Edward.
"May I cut in?"
They both turned and were shocked to see John standing there. Edward looked at him and then at Ted, "Of course."
After a few moments of dancing, John pulled back slightly and looked at Ted. "Well, cousin, I don't think I've ever seen you so happy." John was smiling.
Ted couldn't help but smile back, "You're right."
"I know he will, but I warned him that he better treat you right. If he doesn't he'll have us to deal with."
"I don't think I ever have to worry about that." Ted couldn't help but laugh.
John nodded, "I don't think you will either, but I said it anyway."
They danced for a few minutes more, with Ted was enjoying the closeness with John. It seemed like John had been distant since he and Edward had started seeing each other.
"Laura and I were talking earlier and we made some plans. After the ceremony in Canada, we're going to take the boys and Elizabeth on a vacation. We thought skiing at the condo in Aspen."
"That's a great idea. I'm sure Bess will love it."
"Good, that's settled."
Edward appeared just before the song ended, "Babe, a couple of our guests need to leave. They wanted to talk to you privately before they left."
Teddy grasped Edward's hand and followed him to the far side of the room. There he found William, Harry, and Kate.
"Sorry, but we have a family function tonight." William extended his hand to Teddy and then Edward. "It was a wonderful ceremony. "
Kate smiled wide, "Yes, I had so much fun."
"I can't thank you enough for coming. It was an honor to have all of you here." Teddy tried to hide his real excitement.
"Would you both join us for lunch next week?"
"Of course, that would be great." Teddy looked at Edward, trying to see if he could get an idea of his feelings on the subject.
Harry smiled and jumped in, "I'll be there to liven things up, so don't worry."
The remark caused everyone to laugh as the group walked towards the doorway.
"Babe, do you think anyone would notice if we snuck out?"
Teddy looked around the room, "I don't think so, but I also don't think we should do that."
"Let's get back to it and then we can get out of here."
Standing in the hallway outside their suite, Edward grabbed Teddy's arm. He turned Ted into him and covered his mouth with his. He loved the noises Ted made when he kissed him like this. It gave him such a feeling of love and power. Knowing he could bring Ted so much joy was intoxicating.
"Let's go inside the room." Ted turned to open the door and as he did, he felt himself being lifted from the floor. Edward had picked him up, "Babe, what are..."
"It is tradition isn't it?" There was that boyish smile that Teddy loved so much.
As much as he wanted to protest, Teddy loved the act. When they were in the room, Edward slowly placed him on the bed and then turned to shut the door. "Can you believe we did it?"
"No, I can't fathom I met the man of my dreams, make that the captain of my dreams and I just married him."
Edward laughed, "Well, I didn't even know what I was missing all my life, until I met you. You are my life, even more than Bess. I love you more than anything and I want you to know I strive every single day to be worthy of you."
"Wow, let me clear this up. There is nothing for you to strive for, babe. You are perfect just the way you are." Teddy tried to mimic Edward's grin, "Well, maybe not perfect at the moment."
A puzzled look was on Edward's face, "What?"
"You have clothes on..."

- After the ceremony, things finally seemed to have settled down in their lives, at least enough for them to head to Florida for Christmas. Edward was driving as they pulled into the driveway of the beach house. Teddy was on the phone with Stephanie, making final plans for a few surprises for family members. The plan was to spend a week at the beach and then make a stop in Savannah to see John, Laura, and the boys.
-
"I think I'd like to retire here someday." Edward was sitting quietly looking out the windshield.
Teddy just smiled, "Well, we can certainly do that if you want."
"Somehow, I don't think we will ever retire."
"Well, my mother seemed to be able to retire... in a fashion." Ted thought of his late mother's busy schedule. "Maybe retire isn't the right word... cut back is more like it."
Edward laughed, "Okay, but I don't see either of us cutting back much either."
"You are probably right."
Walking through the door, Ted looked around at the place which was once his home. Although, in some ways it still was, it wasn't the place he thought of home any more. He couldn't get over the thought of London being home. It had become the home he had always wanted. But that was only because Edward and Elizabeth were there with him. That was what truly made it his home now. The renovations to the flat were now complete and they were getting ready to close on the new house. Part of Ted wasn't happy about the move, but he knew what it meant to Edward and he wasn't going to let his personal feelings stand in the way of Edward's happiness. That was something he could live with and something he could think about some other time.
Edward appeared a few moments later, carrying a sleeping Elizabeth. "I think the plane knackered her out this time."
"Why don't you put her down, I'm going to go out back."
Walking out the rear sliding door, Ted looked toward the ocean. He just watched the waves breaking on the beach and felt himself relax. There was something about just listening to the waves that could make him forget everything else that was on his mind. Sitting down on one of the lounge chairs, he closed his eyes and just listened.
Teddy was on his stomach as he felt himself being entered from behind. The feeling was incredible, this was so much better than he had imagined it would be. He had wanted this for so long. The pain wasn't what he expected and quickly it was gone. On the lounge looking at the moon reflecting in the pool he felt the warmth of another on his bare skin. When it was all the way in, he let a sigh out. Teddy was in heaven, this was exactly what he needed. He had waited his entire life for this feeling and he knew he would have it for the rest of his life. This was so much more than he thought it would be. The feeling of shear power on top of him was exhilarating.
Gradually, the thrusting picked up speed and intensity. The feeling of the mouth on the back of his neck was driving Ted insane. With every downward thrust, his prostate was taking a beating. His hands were behind him grasping the ass above him. He could feel the muscles work as they moved up and down. For his part all Teddy could do was moan in pleasure.
"God damn, your ass is so fucking tight. I never imagined doing it under moonlight would be this fucking hot."
Teddy wanted to speak, but he was finding it hard to get the words out. A moan was the most he could get out and even that was mumbled.
The voice was hoarse right behind his ear, "I love you, so much."
"I love you too... David..."
"Babe, you're having a dream..."
Teddy felt himself being shaken gently. He opened his eyes and saw Edward sitting next to him. He couldn't believe the dream he was just having. He was thinking back to the first time he and David had... Why was he thinking of that now?
"Sorry, how long was I asleep?" He realized he had an erection and he tried to hide it from Edward.
"About an hour, or so. I thought you could use the sleep so I left you alone. I just noticed you looked like you were rustling around, figured you were having a bad dream or something. You okay?"
"Yeah, a nightmare actually." It wasn't entirely a lie, but it wasn't entirely the truth either. Ted didn't know how to explain it to Edward, let alone himself. After all these years he hadn't dreamed of David or their time together. Even after the talk he and Edward had, hadn't brought back dreams.
Edward felt Teddy wasn't telling him everything, but he also knew when not to push. "Babe, let's go inside."
Looking over business financials was starting to put Teddy to sleep. Things for the companies were going extremely well. Profits were up and as he looked over the list of upcoming projects he was surprised by the number of high profile jobs they seemed to be getting. Sitting there reading, he found himself spinning his wedding band on this finger. Never one to wear jewelry, Teddy had quickly grown used to the ring. It was like it had always been there.
His dream on the beach was still bothering him. It shouldn't be bothering him, it wasn't like he was cheating or even close to it. It was just a memory of his past, but it still bothered him. It was something he would have to talk to Edward about when things got back to normal.
He looked at the window and could see the stars and moon reflecting off of the Atlantic. It was a beautiful night and Ted could just imagine the first explorers having to cross the ocean below. He looked at his desk and the picture of his family on it. The time they just spent in Savannah reminded him of how much he missed them.
For the three of them to be able to spend Christmas with the boys, John and Laura was wonderful. It was something Teddy hadn't been able to do for many years. The fact that it had been Edward's idea added to making it such a special Christmas.
They had agreed to keep the gifts for each other to a minimum. Edward bought Ted a new attaché case and wallet from Ettinger's of London. When he opened it, he was speechless. He had looked at them not long ago and knew how much they cost. He had thought Edward must finally be getting used to the whole money thing. He hadn't behaved either. When Edward opened his small box, he was dumbfounded. Inside were the keys to a brand new BMW 5 Series. They had gone looking at cars before they left and Edward had really liked the 5 Series, but ended up pushing for something with more room for all of them. He didn't even mention the cost, which Teddy was glad about.
The time in Savannah worked as a mini honeymoon for them. With Elizabeth playing with the boys the whole time, it gave them time to get out by themselves and walk around the city. They found the artist Teddy had bought the painting from when they first met. They ended up purchasing a few more of his paintings. Ted about fell out when Edward asked the young man if he wanted to come to London to paint the sights there.
"Ted, there's a call for Edward." Dustin's voice brought him out of his day dream.
"Thanks, Dustin."
Ted stood up and stretched. Edward was sleeping as Teddy walked into the bedroom. Sitting on the side of the bed, he looked at the man he loved. Next to Edward, Bess was also asleep. He reached out and placed his hand on Edward's back, "Babe."
Edward didn't move, he just opened his eyes slowly. "Are we home?"
"Not yet. There's a call for you."
Edward looked at Bess and tried to be gentle as he got up. Edward followed Ted out into the main cabin. He sat, in what had become his seat, and picked up the phone. "Edward Smythe."
Teddy smiled at the way Edward always seemed to be so formal on the phone.
"Hello, mum." After a minute, Edward's smile was replaced by a blank look on his face.
"Edward?" Teddy became instantly nervous at the look on Edward's face. He ran through a list of things that could cause that look and he didn't like any of them.
The blank look didn't change, "That's great..." He paused again as he listened, "What?!?"
This time it was a look Teddy couldn't place. It was then that Teddy realized what Rose was calling for. The New Year's Honours List and the List of Operational Honours had just been released. Teddy had been warned by Harry about what was on the list and he had been careful to not let Edward in on what was going to happen. He wasn't sure when he would find out, but he was hoping it was after they were home and settled. Rose apparently wasn't going to let that happen.
"Mum... Mum... we'll be home in a few hours. Can I call you when we get to the house?" Edward paused, "Yes, we are going to be back in the flat starting tonight. Okay mum, I love you too. Bye."
He hung up the phone and looked out the window for a minute. He then turned slowly and looked back at Teddy, "You knew, didn't you?"
Trying to not look guilty was difficult, "Know what?"
"That I'm on the list for a CBE and I'm getting a medal."
Teddy had no clue about the second part and was sure the look on his face showed it. "I didn't know that."
"Apparently, I was put in for a Victoria Cross and they are going to award it to me."
"That's incredible!!" Teddy couldn't control his excitement. He almost leapt to his feet, but he noticed that Edward didn't look the least bit happy. "Babe, are you okay? You don't look..."
"I'm not happy. I don't want anything to remind me of that day. I didn't do anything that anyone else in my unit wouldn't have done."
"Edward, you may be right about that, but... They didn't do it, you did. What you did was beyond what many would have done. Plus, you need to remember that a medal isn't just for you. You will wear it for everyone you saved that day and those you couldn't. You will wear it to inspire and remind. You will..."
Edward sat there silently, just looking at Teddy. To Ted it seemed like minutes passed with not a sound out of him. He couldn't tell what Edward was thinking.
"I can see you have thought about this, haven't you?"
"Well, I know you well enough to know that if this ever happened I knew how you'd respond. But, I also know that you will put the needs and happiness of others before yourself. I know that your men need this and the country needs this."
Again, Edward sat there for quite a long time without speaking. He finally got up and walked over to Teddy. Kneeling down he kissed him lightly on the lips, "Okay."
Pulling onto Prince Consort Road, Elizabeth had her face plastered to the window. She had talked non-stop from the airport about not being able to wait and see how the flat looked now. She was more excited than Teddy seemed to be. Although he couldn't wait to see it either, his excitement was tempered by knowing they would soon be moving.
When they came to a stop, Vladimir opened the door. Bess jumped into his arms, bringing a smile to the young man's face. "I missed you!"
His Russian accent was as thick as ever, "I missed you too, my little princess." He hugged her and then placed her gently on the ground.
"Hello my friend." Edward grasped Vladimir's hand, "You're looking great." Every trip they came home from it seemed Vladimir had gotten more muscular and much more attractive. Edward almost stopped cold, that was a first for him. He had only ever had eyes for Teddy, what did it mean that he just noticed Vladimir.
"Thank you." Vladimir blushed slightly before he turned to look at Ted, "Welcome home."
Teddy couldn't help himself, he leaned over and hugged the young man. "Thank you," Ted noticed that Vladimir blushed even deeper. "Edward is right, you're looking hot."
Edward laughed as he watched Vladimir blush to an all new level. That was something he would have to talk to Teddy about later. Apparently, there was a lot they needed to talk about.
"They finished earlier this week, and the decorators are done. Everything went exactly as you instructed." Vladimir quickly tried to change the subject. As much as he was enjoying the attention from his two employers, he was embarrassed.
"Great, I can't wait to see it." Ted finally couldn't help himself, he gave into this excitement. He had wanted to do this remodel for years and couldn't believe it was finally done. Thanks to the neighbors selling their flat to him, he would finally have the home he had dreamed of. Even if it was only going to be home for a short time longer.
The group moved inside as their bags were retrieved by the porters. As they walked into the lobby, Edward was reminded of the first time he entered this building. This was where Teddy reunited him with his daughter on their first night together in London. The white marble walls and the red carpet were as amazing now as they were then.
Everyone got onto the elevator and as the doors closed, Teddy reached over and held Edward's hand. Edward could tell that Ted was nervous. Even if the shaking in his hand didn't tell him, he could just feel it coming from him.
When the doors opened they slowly entered the hallway and walked towards the door. Edward looked around and didn't see anything that looked the least bit different. When they opened the door that all immediately changed, everything in the foyer was so very different. The double doors leading to the inner flat had been changed and were larger. They were open and Edward could see all the way through to the windows looking out over Royal Albert Hall.
Teddy couldn't believe what he was seeing. It looked exactly as he imagined it would. He walked slowly into the flat and was speechless. He looked into each of the rooms and just kept moving. Each had been redone and the updating was incredible. He had the architect keep the original feel that he loved from when he inherited the flat, but there were many updates now as well. He walked past the guest rooms and then further into the flat. There was a new play area that was open to the hallway for the kids.
Elizabeth smiled wide as she saw it and was excited. She quickly ran to it and looked around. She suddenly stopped and looked at her dads, "Can I see my room?"
"Sure honey, you know where it is now, right?" Edward smiled and Elizabeth ran off without answering. "Someone seems to be excited."
Walking into the new living room, both Edward and Ted gasped. It was so much more than either of them thought it was going to be. It was huge but felt incredibly comfortable and homey. At the far left was a new dining room. The large wooden table had seating for the entire clan and then some.
"Come on, I want to see our room." Edward grasped Teddy's hand and pulled him towards where he knew their room was going to be.
Teddy couldn't help but laugh. He was reminded once again how much Elizabeth was a little version of her father.
Entering the hallway, the guys could hear Elizabeth playing in her room. They made the left through the double doors and into their bedroom.
They both stopped dead in their tracks. Edward couldn't speak, the room was beyond what he thought it could be. It was just huge, bigger than his first flat after leaving home. Walking past the door to the bathroom, he looked into it and was floored even more.
The other thing he couldn't get over was the view of the floor to ceiling windows in their new bedroom. It offered them a view of Royal Albert Hall and out to the park beyond. Part of it made him a little nervous, but he knew the windows were coated so people couldn't see in. But, he also knew deep down it wouldn't matter if they weren't. Nothing was going to change what happened in that room.
There was a small sitting area in the room, which Edward noticed had a big screen and a stereo system. He smiled when he saw the video game console attached. He figured there was another one somewhere else in the flat for Devon to play.
As Edward released his hand, Teddy moved further into the room and crossed into his home office. It was again what he hoped for and more. There was comfortable furniture and a large desk looking outside onto the balcony. He saw the photographs of family and friends on the shelves and a large photo of Edward and him, from their civil partnership ceremony, over the fireplace. He couldn't get over the work the decorators had done.
Turning towards Edward he smiled, "Let's go look at the rest of the place."
They walked out of their bedroom and headed down the hallway. The first room they came to was the room set aside for the boys when they visited. Ted knew the boys would love it. There were items from the Household Cavalry and from Jackson Global in the room.
The next room was Elizabeth's room. She was playing on the floor and seemed to not even notice her dads standing in the doorway. The large windows in her room would let plenty of light in and the new window seat would give her a place to sit and read her many books.
As they left her room, they came to the new doorway. The double doors were open, but they stopped anyway.
"Devon, you mind some guests?"
"Of course, you never have to ask." Devon stuck his head into the hallway from one of the rooms.
The guys walked in and turned into the new living room they had built for Devon. He kept telling them it wasn't necessary, but now that it was done he loved every inch of it. It gave him a place he could call his own and a new level of privacy. The new bedroom and sitting room were decorated just as he wanted.
Edward noticed the big screen and a matching game console. He thought to himself he knew how many hours would be spent in this flat.
"I can't thank you enough, this is incredible."
Edward just smiled, "I know I can't get over this place. It's perfect."
Teddy just smiled at everyone's reactions. This was truly the home he had wanted it to be. He tried to remind himself that the new house would be just as nice.
Sitting in their bedroom later that night, Edward hadn't said much since they had dinner and Teddy was starting to get concerned. Teddy was sitting there reading a book in one of the oversized leather chairs, while Edward was just looking out the windows.
"Babe, are you okay?" Teddy waited and didn't get a response. "Edward."
Edward turned his head, "Huh, I'm sorry. My mind was a million miles away."
"I can see that. Are you okay?"
Nodding his head Edward turned to look at Teddy. "Yes, I need to talk to you. I've been doing a lot of thinking tonight."
Instantly Ted's mind went in a thousand different directions at once, and they were all bad. He suddenly found himself trying to figure out what he had done wrong and why this was happening.
Edward instantly saw it on his partner's face, "Babe, knock it off. I'm not leaving you, okay." He nodded his head, "I'm sorry, I forget I need to be more specific. I want to talk about something that happened today and about our living arrangements."
As his mind reset modes, Teddy was a little confused. "What happened today?" Thinking back, he knew they were together the entire time and there wasn't anything he could think of which they needed to talk about.
"So, when we got home today and Vlad met us... well..." Edward was having a problem getting his thoughts out.
"Babe, what's wrong?"
"I thought to myself how attractive he is..." Edward just sat there, looking at his partner.
Ted's first reaction was to laugh, but he controlled the urge. He realized this was a difficult subject for Edward, but it was still funny.
"Please tell me you haven't been beating yourself up all evening about that."
"You mean..."
"Babe, it is completely normal. You are just starting to notice other people. It doesn't mean you don't love me any less. It just means you're human and you have eyes. Plus, it also means you are finally truly accepting being gay. Did you think I was going to be mad?"
"I don't know, I just thought that maybe you'd be upset."
"Not at all, I'd be scared if you didn't. Do you think I don't notice?"
"I never really thought about it like that. Of course I know you notice, that's just who you are. I also know you would never act on it though, so it doesn't bother me in the least."
"Babe, you're just human and you are becoming more comfortable with who you are. Just let me know if something ever changes. So, what about our living arrangements?"
"We haven't closed on the house yet, what do you think the chances are we can get out of it?"
Teddy couldn't believe his ears. "What do you want to do instead?"
"I want to stay here." Edward could feel himself blush, "I'm sorry, this place is incredible. You've created the home I always dreamed of. And, I know this is the place of your dreams. Bess and Devon would hate me if I pulled them away from this place. I know that now and that this is our home."
Teddy practically threw himself at Edward. "Oh my god, you don't know how happy you just made me."
"So, I take it you think we can get out of the new house?"
Teddy shook his head, "Not a chance, but I think we can do something with it."
A frown formed on Edward's face, "What do you mean?"
"Well, we don't have much room here for out of town guests. I'm thinking we should go ahead and still purchase it and then turn it into a guest house. That way we have a place for family that will preserve our privacy. What do you think?"
Edward laughed, "I think you're just trying to make me feel better about wasting so much damn money."
Kissing Edward lightly on the lips, Teddy laughed. "I don't know about that."
