The Boy With the Emerald Eyes

Chapter 24

Caleb

It was close to Thanks Giving Break, and I came out of the church after having talked with Tom. He was telling me about how he wanted to have a Thanks Giving Supper here for those who had nowhere to go for the holiday, and for those who had unstable homelives. I was on my way home where Dakota was waiting for me; I would be hanging out with him at his house that afternoon, and as I walked along, I began remembering Micah, the boy who Tom and I had talked about a few months ago.

I knew that Tom was worried about him, and I had been concerned about his welfare for a long time as well. I hoped that he was alright, and that he was safe. Micah hadn't come back to school that year, and I worried that he might be in another school, unless his dad had pulled him out of school altogether, and that caused me to worry even more, for I wasn't an expert by any means, but I knew enough at that point about abuse that whenever a kid got suddenly pulled from school, and unless they were continuing education through a home schooling program they hadn't kept up with, then sudden withdraw from public school attendance certainly indicated possible abuse that the families may or may not be trying to hide.

As I continued walking, I pulled my coat around me tighter, but it wasn't so much from the cold wind, but from the nervousness with which I found myself confronted at the thought of Micah, or any kid being abused. As I kept walking, I heard my phone, and I pulled it out to answer it. It was Eric, and he was letting me know that he was with Dakota, and they were hanging out in Dakota's room.

Eric went on to tell me that Dakota was taking me up on my offer to bring food back for him, as I had offered before going over to the church. I had him put Dakota on the phone, and he gave me the list of what he wanted.

My parents were going to be working late that night, and Tanner had to work late as well. Sarah was busy studying with friends, so it would just be Dakota and I, well it probably would be Eric joining us as well if he accepted our offer to stay. Devin and Tyler were at Devin's house, and since his parents were going to be away from the house for several hours that night, they were going to be alone with one another, and I didn't need to think too hard about what they would be possibly spending those several hours doing with one another.

Once I got the food which included two orders in addition to Dakota's order, which was one order in case Eric decided to stay, and an order for me to eat along with Dakota, I went back to the house feeling a little more calm now.

I sat on the edge of Dakota's bed while he sat beside me after finishing up with Caleb. He had invited me over a little while ago, and we were spending the time talking about some of the new albums that would be coming out that we were looking forward to, as well as talking about how we hoped that Night Wish could find a good replacement for Marco since he had retired from the group earlier that year.

As I watched Dakota, I was finding it easier as we continued talking over the last couple of weeks of being back in one another's lives to understand his speech. He had told me on the second time of us hanging out about what Adam did to him that lead to him being the way he is now, as well as telling me about all of the complications he had to deal with now. I told him that I'm glad he made it, and we shared a hug. I had also started to say again how sorry I was about everything, but he stopped me, and let me know that he was just glad that friendship between him and I could come out of everything that had happened. I told him that I felt the same way, and we continued spending time with one another for that afternoon for that second visit.

Now as I sat there, Dakota arranged himself so that he lay back on the bed with his legs still adjusted so that his feet were flat on the ground.

"You and Caleb make a really nice couple," I said. "I'm glad to see that you guys are friends, and that you both decided to become boyfriends. I can see that Caleb really loves you, and it definitely looks like you truly feel the same way about him as well."

"You're right," Dakota answered. "Caleb really is the love of my life!"

"I hope both of you are together for a really long time," I said. "I totally support the both of you, and I'll always look out for you two as well."

"Thanks," Dakota answered.

"You're welcome," I replied.

Caleb returned home a few minutes later, and I went out to see if he needed any help while Dakota got himself back in his wheelchair.

I sat the food down on the counter, and after taking off my coat then hanging it up, I looked up to see Eric and Dakota coming towards me. I went over and hugged Eric, then bent down to hug and kiss Dakota. After straightening up again, I went over to the food and started unpacking everything.

"I didn't know if you wanted to eat with us Eric," I began. "So I got an extra order in case."

"Cool, thanks!" Eric said smiling, then walking over to stand beside me. "I really appreciate that!"

"I'm glad to hear that," I answered.

I remembered from the last time that Eric ate with us a couple of days ago that he loved Spicy Chicken Sandwiches so that's what I got him along with an order of fries. He thanked me for the order, and after we sat down, we ate in silence for a moment, then Eric spoke up.

"Dakota was telling me that Devin and Tyler were going to be spending time with one another this evening," he said. "I know I saw them around school only a couple of times after we all met that one Sunday, but they definitely seem to be close. I mean, I couldn't help but notice the looks that would pass between the two of them from time to time, and if they're more than friends, then I hope they're happy for a long time together."

"Thanks," I replied. "I feel the same way."

"So do I," Dakota added.

As I continued eating, Dakota started talking in the quiet voice of a Golf Announcer.

"Now we see Caleb aiming his fry for the Barbeque Sauce," he announced. "It looks like he's going to make it successfully!"

When I got the fry where it needed to be, Dakota and Eric did a Golf Clap, and they were both smirking.

"Very funny," I said laughing.

"You should find it funny since you started that in a way," Dakota said lightly poking me in the ribs.

"Oh yeah, the Nature Announcer thing," I replied laughing.

I explained to Eric what I meant, and he laughed as well.

"I'm glad you guys enjoy joking around like that," Eric said as we finished up.

"Me too," I agreed.

"Yeah, and Caleb enjoys doing a lot of things with me," Dakota added smirking in my direction.

"Oh not that," I said in mock annoyance.

"I'm guessing that you're implying something about sexual stuff?" Eric asked looking at Dakota.

"That's right," Dakota said laughing. "I enjoy seeing the look on Caleb's face when I joke around and act in a more exaggerated way when talking about how much I want sex."

"Yeah, I know how much you like embarrassing me," I answered laughing. "Now I'm going to get the dishes done."

I walked over to the sink, and got started on them.

"He's just trying to keep from having to be further embarrassed by me," Dakota said as him and Eric continued sitting there.

"I'm not listening to you," I said laughing, and acting as if I were hiding behind my task.

"You don't need any help with the dishes do you?" Dakota asked, breaking character long enough to do so.

"I'm fine," I answered.

"Good, now I'll go back to being annoying towards you," he answered.

"Oh good," I replied. "I can't wait to hear how bad you get with it."

"Yeah Eric, he loves it when I get bad if you know what I mean," Dakota went on as Eric sat watching him.

"Um, that's nice," Eric said laughing.

"I know, isn't it great?" Dakota said. "I'm working on getting Caleb more adventurous when we're alone, and he's really getting in to it."

"Shut up Dakota," I said in mock anger.

"Ooh," Dakota went on. "He's angry now. That's good; it's even hotter when he's angry. I mean that he's even better when we're together in our room when he's angry."

"Oh my god," Eric said laughing. "I'm not sure if I need to be hearing anymore of this."

"He won't stop until you let him finish," I said over my shoulder.

"You have no idea how amazing he is when I'm alone with him," Dakota went on trying to keep from laughing. "It's hard to describe how bad I need Caleb to do me. I mean, I sometimes want it so bad that even the toys I use don't bring me enough relief."

"Oh stop," I called over my shoulder laughing. "You don't have any damn toys, and we both know it."

"Damn," Dakota said laughing. "I really need to teach you better at how to do a better job at playing along."

"You really need to do a better job at keeping your mouth shut," I answered smirking at him.

"You do a good job at keeping my mouth shut lover," Dakota said in an exaggerated lisping voice.

"He's probably going to kick your ass for acting like that and saying what you're saying," Eric said laughing hard now.

"Yeah, rough sex is the best," Dakota said licking his lips while looking in my direction. "I mean, when Caleb and I do stuff later this evening once we're alone, I want it to get so X-Rated that they couldn't even show what we did on the Dark Web."

"Oh for Christ's sake," I said laughing hard this time. "Where the hell did you even come up with that from?"

"I just made it up," Dakota said laughing as hard as I was.

"Um, I should probably leave you two alone now," Eric said laughing, but making no move to leave just yet.

After I dried the last dish, I went over to where he and Dakota were sitting.

"In all seriousness though," I began. "I hope we didn't make you uncomfortable with joking around like that just now."

"Yeah," Dakota added. "It's just how we are with one another, and especially when Devin and Tyler are around. I mean that that's how the four of us joke around most of the time."

"It's no problem," Eric said smiling at both of us. "You guys didn't upset me at all."

"I'm glad," I replied.

"Me too," Dakota said.

"I'd let you know if you guys said or did anything that bothered or upset me."

"Good," Dakota answered.

"I'm glad to hear that," I added.

Tom went in to the main room of the church to clean up before going home for the evening, and walking by the thermostat, he turned it up a couple of settings. That Thursday afternoon was cold, dark and rainy as he and Caleb had sat talking, and it was getting even more cold and rainy outside. As Tom sat down to arrange a few files on his desk before locking them up, he thought back to Micah and his situation. He was disturbed that nothing was heard about the boy, and he was further worried since he hadn't heard anything further from Micah personally either. He hoped that he could find him at some point, and make sure he was alright.

After standing up from his desk and pushing the chair back in, Tom locked up the files, then as he turned to go through the connecting hallway back to his house, he heard something coming from the front entrance of the church.

He walked to the front of the church, and as he went to open the door, he saw it already opening. He hadn't locked the doors yet, and as he stood there, a figure stumbled in, and fell. Tom rushed forward to help the figure, and that's when he saw that they were bloody, and the figure's face was covered in bruises and blood. Tom was horrified!

Author's Notes

I had planned to return to Micah here at some point. I wasn't sure how much of a story line I was going to give him starting out, but I wanted to add him to the story as I continued thinking about how to deal with his name being added to the story. I hope you guys like him as a character, and hope you guys enjoy seeing how he does with interacting with the other boys.

I hope everyone is having a good evening, and that you all are staying safe, and I'll see all of you in Chapter 25.
