Chapter 1 - Knowledge Gained
Justin Timberlake groaned as he heard his alarm begin to ring. He looked at the clock, his vision slightly blurred. "Six...no five thirty? Oh god..." It was the first day of the tour, and it already seemed to be off to a bad start. A pounding at the door made him bolt into an upright position.
"WHAT?" He cried out.
"Justin! Get ready! NOW! You've got, like, half an hour to do all the crap you do in the morning. DO IT!" Joey Fatone yelled through the door. "Busta! Get out of my way! SHIT!" A heavy thud sounded through the house.
With a giggle, and then a heavy sigh, Justin got up out of the bed, and proceeded to get dressed. There was a quick tap at the door.
"Justin?" Lance Bass's deep voice tried to whisper through the door. "Justin, can I come in?"
"Yeah. Hold on, Scoop. Let me get some put on my clothes real quick." Justin hopped around his bed getting his leg into the right leg of the pants. Soon, they were on, and he was zipped. He hurried to the door, hoping Lance hadn't given up.
"Hey. Come on in." He moved aside to let Lance into his room.
"Hi, Justin. I'm having a problem." Lance said, as he sat on Justin's bed.
"Oh, like what?"
"It's the first day of the tour... and... and... and..." He paused to sigh, "I have nothing to wear."
Justin had to put his hand over his mouth to keep from laughing. "Okay, Scoop, c'mere. I think I've got something for you." He reached into his suitcase and pulled out a soft blood red sweater. "I thought it was great when I bought it, but it makes my skin look yellow and blotchy when I wear it, so, take it!"
"I like it!" Lance cried, snatching it away. He quickly pulled off the shirt he was wearing, and slipped it on. It looked amazing in contrast with his skin. After dancing around for a bit, he left the room shouting 'thank you.'
"Now I can go eat!" Justin's stomach grumbled in reply. He headed downstairs quickly, smelling sausage and eggs all the way.
"FOOD!" Joey bellowed out, trying to make sure that everyone could hear him.
"OW! Fuck, Joey! Please... don't yell... not today..." Chris Kirkpatrick whimpered, laying his head in his arms on the table.
"Well, it wouldn't hurt if someone hadn't stayed out and gotten drunk last night." Joey took the spatula, and smack Chris on the hand. Chris reached up and angrily pulled on one of Joey's freshly gelled spikes. "HEY! OW! LET GO!"
"Aaaa! Don't yell..." Chris returned to his position, and let Joey finish cooking.
JC Chasez walked softly into the room, and slunk down into one of the dining room chairs. He sipped a little bit from Chris's glass of orange juice on the table, seeing as Chris hadn't touched it anyway.
"JC, PLEASE tell me you didn't get drunk too!" Joey flipped around with a slightly upset look on his face.
"No, I didn't. I just... oh nothing..." He stared off into space.
"Okay, well, have you seen Justin or Lance?"
"JUSTINS HERE!" Justin shrieked, bouncing off the last stair.
"Aaaa! No yelling..." Chris whined pathetically.
Justin took a seat at the table, and rubbed Chris's back for a moment, then turned his attention to JC. "Hey, what's wrong, Josh?"
"Nothing." JC brushed away his tears, and sat up. "I'm just tired, that's all."
"Okay, well... If you need to talk, I'm here, Ok?"
"Yeah, I know..."
"JOEY! FOOD!" Lance shouted as he sat at the table, and pounded his fist.
Joey, JC, and Justin all turned to Lance and whispered, "No yelling," just before Chris raised his head up to complain.
"Thank you..." Chris grumbled.
All five guys finally had their suitcases on the bus by 6:30. Half an hour wasn't late considering Joey burned breakfast; therefore they had to make a quick stop at a McDonalds.
The bunk arrangements were made swiftly so that the guys could get to sleep as soon as possible. Everyone except JC... He couldn't. Something in his mind was keeping him up. It was hurting him more than ever.
He slowly crept out of his bunk careful not to step on Busta, who was curled up in a ball in between the bottom bunks. Chris's snoring was beyond loud. "Busta, I don't know how you live with that," he said to the small dog, and scratched behind his ears.
The kitchen, which was conveniently located behind a curtain by the bunks, was spotless. 'This won't last for long.' JC thought, smiling to himself as he started the coffee maker. Normally, JC never drank coffee, but right now, the need for caffeine was stronger than bad taste. He slid into the booth-like seats, and folded out the makeshift table. The coffee maker buzzed showing that it was done. JC poured himself a cup, and sat silently as he sipped.
Someone stirred in the bunk area after hearing the coffee maker. There was a small growl, and he could barely make out the whisper, "Sorry, Busta." It was Justin. He must of stepped on Busta when he climbed down from his bunk. JC giggled a bit to himself as Justin walked through the curtain.
"Hey, Josh." Justin said, and slid into the other side of the booth. He paused to stare at JC for a moment. "Josh, you never drink coffee..."
JC sighed and sat down his mug. "I can't explain why I'm drinking it. I just need to, that's all."
"Josh, there's obviously something wrong. You're not just tired. I know it. Please, just tell me what's on your mind."
"Justin, it's really not that simple. I can't just tell you everything I'm thinking. Its... well... there's just a lot to be said."
"Try me."
After a long pause, and a few deep and heavy sighs, JC began to speak. "Justin, I'm--I'm--"
"Yes?"
"Justin, I'm gay." JC finally spit out, then immediately took a big drink from his mug.
"I, um, I don't know what to say JC. Is this--is this what's been bothering you for so long?"
"For so long? Justin, I've known forever, it's just that, it's just been getting progressively harder to deal with. I just didn't know how much longer I could hold it in."
"It's okay, JC. I don't hate you. I'm not going to shun you. I'm just confused."
"Confused? How? I told you I was gay, what is there to be confused about?"
"I don't know." Justin lied. Deep down, what JC had told him spark old feelings inside of Justin. Justin didn't know if he was straight, gay, or even bi. This revelation just brought those old feelings to the surface.
"I think I'm going to go try to sleep again. Please, um, don't tell the others. I will do it. Soon, I think."
"JC, wait." Justin said quickly as he snapped out of his thoughts.
"Yes?"
"JC, is there anyone that you have feelings for?"
"Yes." JC replied, a blushing forming on his cheeks unbeknownst to Justin.
"Who?"
"Oh, no one you know." JC lied. "See you when I wake up." He said, and then headed back to his bunk, disappearing behind the curtain.
"Oh." Justin said to himself. 'It's not me.' He thought with relief at first. Then slowly sadness crept in. Did he want JC to like him? He knew the answer deep down, but didn't think he could admit it to himself.
