That's Impossible, isn't it?

Chapter 24

Book 2 part 5

"Good morning," Craig said, sitting at the bottom of our bed, "Mor, yuhuhh, ning" I yawned out.

"Lacka is downstairs, Father has prepared breakfast, and your Dad is on his way over," He added, kissing my cheek, "Wha, what, have I missed something?" I asked looking somewhat bewildered. "No we are leaving for Hokite today, and, well, your Dad would like to make sure we know what we are doing," he replied.

"Oh yeah, forever a Major" I snickered.

I got my naked ass out of bed and cleaned myself before heading downstairs, my dad was sitting talking to Lacka, and army boys, together, I thought to myself. "Hey Dad," I said, kissing his cheek. "Morning, Bobby, sleep well?" he asked, "So so," I replied.

"I have the papers, it's me, Craiglessty, and you, Bobby, we are going on the pretence of farm labourers, we don't need any more documentation than that," Lacka added showing me the paperwork.

"Do we have any more Intel on Dallam's location, yet?" asked my dad. "No, but we believe someone on Hokite may have a very good idea," Lacka replied.

After we had arranged to contact my dad before we left Lokite we set off, we guessed we may be followed so Lacka had set up a miss-direction for our pursuers. We climbed into a transport and we took off at full speed, we entered a complex as a second transport identical to ours took the direction we were heading in.

"They took it" Lacka said, when the transport that had been sitting outside our home flew past as it rounded the corner following the decoy. We again set off for the port and our ship off of Lokite.

Sitting on board the Transport ship, drinking the closest you will find to coffee anywhere. "So how long to Hokite," I asked.

"Hyper-drive speed, about half a day," Lacka replied.

"Can I join you boys?" a hooded man standing beside Lacka asked. He removed his hood to reveal himself, Craig jumped up to embrace him. "Judak, what are you doing here?" Craig asked excited to see him. "Lord Lakkin-Do said it was in my people's interest if I was present, he transported me here," He gestured pointing at his feet.

"Your people, you've only been there 10 minutes," Craig joked.

"Do I need to be concerned about Lokite?" He asked, and the air became serious. "Yeah, just a bit," I interjected.

"This was all planned by Litral, the senate and council leader," Craig added.

"To what end?" Judak asked, still somewhat concerned.

"The death of all Krile," Lacka added.

"How?" Judak asked.

"We learned that he planned to bring a force from Earth to fight, he has ships ready, he arranged for earth to be uninhabitable, so we would have to come, not just the woman," I added with a sense of sadness.

"Why is he waiting, and how will he convince the humans to go to war for him" Judak asked. "Control chips" Lacka added. "Oh those, Bokite's endured those, but they were outlawed over 80 yrs ago" Judak replied.

"Litral has improved them, he beamed them into the men over 17yrs old, myself included," I added.

"The second part of your question, when will he attack, Judak, I don't know why he is waiting, but the longer he does it helps us find his brother," Lacka replied.

"His brother, how will that help?" Judak asked, as we jumped into Hyper-speed, strange feeling that was. "My ears popped" I snickered at an inappropriate moment.

"His position is a family right, his brother is the eldest, we are hoping to convince him to take his place back, therefore ending Litral before he starts," Lacka added.

"Who is he? I didn't know that he had a brother," Judak now perking up.

"Dallam, he's older by 8 yrs, we do not know why he vacated his office, but we aim to find out," Craig replied.

Craig and Judak spent the next few hours catching up, I talked at length with Lacka about the plan when we arrive at Hokite.

Several hours later, approaching orbit around the farm planet of Hokite.

"Let me do the talking," Lacka said as we climbed down the ramp. "Papers?" an official asked as they approached. Lacka handed him the papers. "3 workers and who's is the Animal?" he asked, as I turned and saw that Judak had transformed himself, clever boy!!.

"He's mine, sir, we were told at the other end it would be fine, he's a working animal" I said when Judak let out a sound that could have been mistaken as a bark.

"Yeah, it's fine, third transport from the end," he replied handing our papers back over to Lacka. "Get in the transport, and say nothing," Lacka informed us, we climbed in, we were the only workers inside the transport. Lacka sat near the front and just waited until we took off.

"The crops look green for this time of year," Lacka said, talking to the pilot, waiting on his response. "Yeah, should be red in a few days, though," He replied, this was a bizarre conversation. "Billa?" Lacka asked. "Lacka, I presume," he snickered back.

"Any more Intel?" Lacka asked, and I realised he was an operative, he was able to trust. "Dallam is not on Hokite, sir," he replied. "Shit," I shouted out loud, and again being watched like I was an idiot. "Sorry," I said softly.

"He has a friend that we know of, Jollad, he's a farmer and that is where I am taking you, be careful what you say, news does not get around here very much," Billa added.

Twenty minutes later, we landed in a paddock adjacent a large structure.

"Pilot, we have not requested any assistance," Jollad said as he approached with a younger version of himself. "Business, sir, these people need to talk to you...it's urgent," Billa replied.

"Regarding?" Jollad asked.

"Dallam," Lacka replied.

"Sorry, never heard the name before," he replied and the young boy looked up at the old man. "Dallam" he said. "As I said we have never heard of him," he repeated.

"Sir, we need your help, we need to find him, lives are at stake," Craig interjected. "Sorry, I cannot help you, Pilot, please leave my property now," He insisted.

"Litral is planning to attack the Krile home world," Lacka yelled, and the man walked away but stopped as soon as he started. "Sir, we are desperate to find him," Lacka added.

"And what can one man do?" he asked.

"Sir we need him to take his place back from his war monger of a brother" Craig added, as I held his arm. "Sir will you help us" I asked.

"Litral will kill him before he arrives back on Lokite" replied Jollad. "So, you do know him," Lacka added. "He is my best friend, I put him up here when his brother wanted him dead" he added.

"You better come inside, I will tell you some things you may not be aware of." he beckoned us inside, we all sat in the kitchen part of the dwelling, he placed a cup inside a hole in the wall and water appeared inside of it. fucking star-trek again, I thought to myself.

"Dallam left Lokite to save his family," Jollad started.

"What do you mean?" Lacka asked.

"If Litral went ahead with his plan, Dallam would die, or should I say not exist, neither would Litral" he replied cryptically.

"And what does that fucking mean?" I blurted out.

"He's from Earth," Lacka apologised for me.

"Oh, and was it successful, did Lokite convince your government to help Lokite?" he asked.

"Long story, we will explain later, but what about Dallam" Lacka asked.

"The device," he replied.

"Sorry, what device?" Lacka asked, having all of our attentions now.

"Well, I thought that is what you wanted from him, many have tried, his brother included." Jollad went on. "Sir, sorry for acting like a dumb ass, but what are you talking about?" I asked.

"Dumb ass?" he enquired

"Idiot" Lacka snickered out.

Oh, I see, sorry. The device, Dallam acquired it from a trader over thirty years ago, the trader thought it was just an old relic, but Dallam and Litral knew what it was as soon as they saw it, Litral demanded it was used to correct an injustice and end the wars" Jollad went on.

"It's a weapon?" I interjected.

"Yes, of sorts, the most powerful weapon imaginable" He went on.

"Look, I am sorry, but I don't know where Dallam is now, but he will not be in this system, he will hide and run from any chance his brother can get his hands on that device" he bemoaned, I do not know if I was just being thick, but we were all lost.

"The device, sir, what is it?" Lacka asked.

"Look, you know that he has ships waiting to attack the Krile home world, yes?" and Lacka nodded in agreement.

"Okay, we know that much, but what you do not know though is, when does he plan on launching his attack?" Jollad asked.

"Soon, I would imagine," Lacka replied and since this whole thing started, my mind was working overdrive.

"No, you misunderstand," Jollad started.

"Fucking, Dr Who" I yelled.

"Bobby, you okay?" asked Craig.

"Don't you get it?" I proclaimed.

"Get what? What are you going on about, babe?" again asked Craig, "what has a TV show got to do with this?" he asked.

"Look, I still think Gene Roddenberry was from your planet, but this thing he is describing, Craig, he's saying that Dallam has a Tardis, he has a time machine," I informed them and all looked bemused.

"That's impossible, Isn't It?" Judak asked.

"Not a time machine, exactly, a time directional displacement device," Jollad replied.

"You are joking, right?" Lacka interjected.

"If Litral finds his brother and gets the device, he would attack the Krile in the past before they had the technology to defend themselves," Jollad added, "But Dallam knew something that Litral did not, his Grandmother was from Krile stock, he knew if they went back in time and destroyed the Krile, he would be killing himself as well," Jollad added.

"So why didn't Dallam tell him that?" Lacka asked.

"He did, that's why he left, he took the device and ran, Litral has had him watched, to see if he could find the device, his men are on orders to get the device and kill Dallam at any cost, the young child playing over there is all that is left of Dallam's family, he is his grandson, and mine" he added.

"His mother and my Son were killed by Litral's men, oh, it went down as an accident, but we knew it was no accident," Jollad bemoaned.

"Dallam left, so he would be safe," He added.

"You have to make sure he does not get his hands on that device," Jollad said and with a tear in his eye. "You better leave, now, if Dallam left the system, go south there is a trading post where off worlders occasionally give passage, at a price," He added.

"Yeah, I know where that is," Billa replied.

We stood and walked out then climbed back into the transport.

"This just gets more bizarre as the hours pass," I said, strapping myself in.

"Time machines, what next?" I asked.

To be continued...
