(Firstly, I want to make something perfectly clear: if you're looking for a story about sex so you may get yourself off, reading this story isn't going to accomplish your goal, as it won't have any graphic sexual content. I began writing this my sophomore year in high school, when I was 15, and have worked on it a handful of times when the inspiration has struck me. I'm 18 now and in college, and I've decided the best way to force myself to focus on the story and continue writing is to have an audience to push me along, and give suggestions or comments. As this is a first attempt at fiction, I'd appreciate patience. If you're so inclined, e-mail me at jlhobson@gmail.com .
This first posting will be short and dry, to establish the story and give a little bit of background information. Actual chapters will be posted subsequently, and the story will start in the "past" as it works its way to the present. The trip isn't very long, as I never was good at BSing to develope characters, and wanted to get into my plot. But with people's guidance, maybe I'll find more patience to do just that..)
Foreword
There are many things in life we can't decide: Maybe it's fate, perhaps it's chance, or who knows, it could be God's hand moving us into unchartered territory to show us what we're really made of.
But no matter what we're given, however hard the hand we're dealt is, we have to play it. Life isn't easy: the truth and reality hurt, no matter how hard we try to change it.
There is ignorance and evil in the world. Some people fear what they do not understand, and others simply loath anything that's outside their own private spectrum of "normal."
But nothing is normal. Everyday we're given a unique set of circumstances in life to undertake, and through those we grow. We all must triumph through ignorance, hate, and fear. Life is not an idealistic dream, but through it all, no matter how cynical we may become, there's always hope and optimism to be found...we just have to know where to find it.
Patience is indeed a virtue...
---- Introduction
Before I begin to stroll down memory lane, let me tell you a little about myself:
My name is Jason Tyler Peterson, I'm fifteen years old, and live in Welson, Oregon which is between Portland and Salem and boasts a population of around 36,000 people.
My mother, Kate, is an English teacher at my high school where's I'm a sophomore (the Welson High School Wolverines), and my father, Mike, is a police officer with the Welson Police Department. When I was eight, my older sister, Emily, who was twelve at the time, died of Hodgkin's Lymphoma.
Other than that, my life had been pretty shielded...I was popular (the girls always seemed to like me), received good grades, played on my school's football and baseball teams, lived a comfortable life, and did everything with my best friend, Kyle Matthews.
I've known Kyle since I was four. We went to the same pre-school together, and as soon as we met, we have been inseparable. As it turned out, Kyle only lived a few blocks away from me, so we do everything together...sports, school, parties: you name it, we've probably done it (sometimes to our parents' and teachers' dismay).
Kyle is one of those people who are good at everything they do. He's always the star on the team, always has a date to the dance, and I don't think since seventh grade began have I seen him without a girlfriend for less than four consecutive days. He gets straight A's, and tells the best jokes. To get Kyle, take any of my positive personality traits, and multiply them by ten. But, even though he lives near me, his home dynamics couldn't be more different.
If anyone in this world would be considered perfect, Kyle would be in serious contention.
Now that I've gotten some background information out of the way, let me tell you my story. But, to fully grasp it, I have to start out with a few years ago, at the start of middle school.
