Chapter 15: Back at Home

We make it back to the mansion, Scott and Mom waiting for us. It was 11:30.

"What the hell is wrong with you, Logan? Can't you bring someone home on time?" asked Scott.

"It's not his fault!" I say in his defense.

"He didn't bring you back in time." Mom commented.

"He didn't have a say in the matter. We went to P3, where we, no, I, was attacked by vampires, demons, and a sorcerer. He couldn't have gotten me out of there because he was unconscious."

"Cyclops, you don't think that maybe..." started Mom.

"...Someone's after him. And I know who, too. Mr. Sinister." said Cyclops. "This changes everything. Joshua, you are not allowed to leave the mansion for anything until you and Logan go to Canada.." says Cyclops.

"But I-"

"No buts! Now you need to get to bed. Your first day of school here is tomorrow morning."

"Yes sir." I reply. I go to the elevator, and before the door closes Logan hops aboard, too. We talk as the elevator goes up, mainly about me kicking ass in the bar.

"Kid, you're a natural fighter."

"Well, I learned from the best." I reply.

Logan stops at his room, and we tell each other good night. I continue down the hall. The farther down the hall I go, the more I can feel Logan's loneliness. I try to disregard it as I turn the knob on my door. Locked?! I consider ways to get in. I could send messages to Bobby and Evan to open the door, but they're most likely asleep. The locks don't work in a way that I could telepathically open them. And I don't want to cause a scene by blasting the door open or by slicing it open. I don't want to cause anymore trouble that way.

I can see only one other option. I hope that Logan will let me sleep in his room with him.

I knock his door. He shouts a curse, and opens the door.

"Scott, damnit, I heard you the first time-oh, hey kid." Logan says, upon realizing that it's me instead of Scott.

"Hey. May I bunk with you tonight? I am locked out of my room."

"Sure. He says. He lets me in. The loneliness vanishes and he is relieved, or happy or something, I'm not sure.

He lets me have the bed, and he sleeps in a chair in his room. I find myself a little upset by this. I wish he were in bed with me, comforting me.

I get to sleep eventually. I am wracked with nightmares again. I see all sorts of deadly apparitions. Ghosts, demons, vampires, monsters, and at the end of the ghastly hallway there is the vision again. He's killing them. Sinister is killing them. And then he attacks me. I slash blindly at him, trying to kill him any way I can. Then he starts yelling my name. Joshua! Joshua! He sounds like-Wolverine?

My vision clears and I see that I am actually in Logan's room, and that I have been destroying things there. Logan is restraining me, keeping me from destroying things. I notice two sets of three claw marks on his chest and his arm. I begin to cry.

"Kid, it's okay." says Logan, trying to calm me down."

"No, it's not okay. I could have killed you! All because of a stupid nightmare!"

"But you didn't. Besides, I've survived much worse. Now, what got you so worked up anyways?"

"The guy who killed my parents. He tried to kill me." I went limp and Wolverine caught me before I could fall to the floor. Logan carried me back to the bed, and laid me back down. He moved back towards the chair.

"Logan. Please, don't leave me."

Logan turned around, then came back to me. He got in the covers behind me, and pulled me into his arms. In his arms, I felt so safe. No one could have pried me loose. And I didn't want to move. He didn't want to let me move. I snuggled closer to him. The closer I snuggled, the more he held me. I was able to feel happiness that I had never felt from Logan before. Happiness and joy and - - love?

Yes, it was love. Logan did love me. And I loved him. I allowed Logan to feel my feelings of love so that he knew I loved him too. He kissed me on the forehead. His kiss was so soft, softer than a butterfly wing.

"Good night, kid." he said to me.

"Good night. Logan. I love you."

"I love you, too." The two of us fell into a nice, relaxing sleep.
