Chapter 22 Out
"I'm poison, baby. Poison Ivy."
I looked her in the eyes. Something seemed familiar about them, as if I had seen them somewhere before.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" she asked me. I remained silent. "I recognize that look. It's a look of familiarity. You recognize my eyes. Tell me who has my eyes."
She gave me a seductive grin but realized it would get her nowhere.
"Kill him," she declared to her zombies.
The men holding me moved me away from her. I watched as she sat on the top railing and spun her legs over to the side of the floor.
The men took me to a spot where everyone could see. One pulled out a gun and...a whistling in the air flew and hit the gunner's hand. He dropped the gun in pain.
"You!" Poison Ivy declared looking up.
I followed her gaze to see a young man in a black mask, black cape, green pants and dark red shirt.
"Yep, it's me, Ivy."
The boy was holding a rope on which he swung down to the floor. I took advantage of his distraction and pushed one of the guys off my arm. I swung my fist around and hit the guy who was still holding me in the ear. He released his grip and grabbed at his head. I turned and punched him, and then turned to Poison Ivy.
"Release them!"
"Not likely," she said with a cocky grin. "I need them."
"For what?"
"My plans."
Poison Ivy motioned for her men to close in. The masked teenager swooped down and kicked one of the men into the water. He released the rope, turned and kicked another thug.
I heard two men coming up behind me. I jumped forward onto my hands, threw my legs in the air and pushed off the floor. My body went backwards and I kicked the two men in the chest. I fell to the ground and looked up to see three women coming toward me. They must have either been willing to work for Poison Ivy or were lesbians under her control. Either way, I had to get off the floor quickly.
I rolled over onto my back, placed my hands palms down on either side of my head and kicked out and pushed at the same time, flipping up onto my feet. I saw Poison Ivy heading away from the masked boy and myself. I had to stop her.
I pulled out one of my grapple guns and shot a line up into the ceiling. I pressed a button and jumped. The motor pulled me up over the growing crowd of assailants. The line drug me the distance. When I was close to her, I hit the release button and the line was cut. As I fell, I opened my cape and used my mutant ability to slow my fall enough so I wouldn't get hurt. It looked very dramatic if I do say so myself.
I landed not too far from Poison Ivy.
"Stop!" I called out.
She turned and smiled at me.
"Really, Batman, do you think I will do that so easily? Just because you said to 'stop'? Come on. I'm a woman. You know what I want."
Poison Ivy turned and walked seductively over to me, hands on her hips, bosom heaving, lips puckering. If I had been straight, this would have gotten to me. Thank God for small favors.
"I want you, Batman. Since seeing you, I've come to want you. Certainly the mystery that comes with the suit is attractive and alights the fires of desire. Now that I've seen how you fill out the suit, I want you. I want you, Batman. Look into my eyes and see how much I want you."
I did look into her eyes. Of course being wanted is a turn on, provided the person who wants you is attractive. Seeing as how I'm gay, I was able to look beyond that. What I had seen bothered me. It was the lust of sex, lust of the male body that she had in her mind. That is something I hate. Of course gay men desire and lust after other men, that's how our hormones work, hormones God gave us. I do not, however, believe in men fulfilling their lusts with many anonymous partners. It may feel good, but sex becomes something less than what it was meant to be. I know many disagree with me. And there are times when I wanted to be so much part of the gay community, I wondered if I could be that shallow, if I could have one-night stands or lustful orgiastic sex. I don't think I ever could. I tend to put my heart into sex...that's the way sex was meant to be.
Poison Ivy moved closer to me and put her hands on my chest.
"You are so strong. Your body so firm to my touch. I can see now why men adore you."
"Not all men adore me."
"Sure they do. Look at those pitiful losers who are not under my control."
Ivy motioned and I looked around. Indeed many men were looking at me, including those at the table at which I sat earlier. And most of them had that lustful look in their eyes, especially Nick from Backstreet Boys, his brother Aaron, and Darren. But I also noticed looks that others had. Lance kept looking toward the restrooms, probably wondering where I was, or should I say, where Eric was. Christian from BBMak was looking as well. Perhaps he was concerned, too. I could not consider them, though. There were countless people here under the control of a mad woman.
"They want you, Batman. They want you the same way I want you. You could have them, Batman. I could keep those under my control away from you and let you have the orgy of a lifetime with all of these men, including the famous ones. I would even be willing to throw in the heterosexual men under my control. You don't really need to stop me. My plan is just and true. I have no ill-will towards anyone, including you."
I looked to her as if I was considering her offer. It worked. She let her guard down enough for me to make my move. With a quick action, one hand flew out and grabbed the perfume bottle. The other hand flew up and backhanded her in the face. Without wasting time, I turned and ran.
"You bastard! You struck me!"
"Damn straight," I said as I ran from her.
I placed the perfume bottle in one of my empty pouches and ran to the masked boy fighting and holding his own against the mind-controlled men.
"Need some help?" I asked.
"Sure could."
I turned putting my back to his back. Slowly the men and women surrounded us and began to move in close.
"I don't think we can fight off all of them, especially if they attack at the same time. Any bright ideas?"
"Yes. As a matter of fact, I do."
I relaxed and let my consciousness stretch out. I reached out with my mind, my body, my very particles, and picked up the people who were closing in on us. Slowly, I moved them across the room and placed them on the floating iceberg. When I released them and came back to myself completely, I turned to see the kid staring at me.
"You have to show me how you do that."
"It's easy...if you are a mutant."
"You're a mutant?"
"Yes."
"Hmm," was all he replied. "What now?"
"I have her perfume bottle. I don't know how long it will last. We may have to come up with an antidote or something."
"Or, like most perfumes, see if it comes off with some water."
He pulled out a rope and lassoed one of the people on the iceberg. I pulled hard on the rope and pulled them into the water. After a moment, they came to the surface shouting.
"I can't swim! I can't swim!"
"It worked," he said.
I looked at him and then reached out with my mind and pulled the man out. He and I did this for several people before I noticed Christian getting up.
"Don't move!" I called out.
"We have a friend in the bathroom. I want to make sure he's okay."
"We don't know if Poison Ivy has set up any traps. Stay where you are. When we are finished we will check out the place."
Lance leaned over and said something to Christian and Christian sat down. Lance turned back and looked at me intently. Something seemed wrong.
My partner and I finished up dealing with the drugged victims and turned our attentions to the surrounding areas. When we finished up I turned to him.
"I'll check the bathroom," I said.
"You do that."
"By the way, may I have your name?"
"Sure. It's Robin."
I nodded to him and turned. We separated and I went into the bathroom changing quickly into my normal clothes. I fixed my hair, splashed some water on my face and peeked my head out. As I did, Lance opened the door.
"Oh my god!" I said jumping back. "You scared me!"
"Sorry," Lance said coming into the bathroom and closing the door behind him. "Is everything okay?"
"Aside from getting the crap scared out of me, I'm fine."
"Really. Is Batman in here?"
"Batman? He...uh...he was. He just left."
"To where?"
"I don't know. He didn't tell me."
"Hmm. Come on, we need to go. The police are on their way and I think we've had enough fun for this evening."
"Really?" I said getting a bit coy. "I was hoping we could have some fun later at home."
Lance's mouth curled up into a smile.
"I'm sure we can."
Lance took my hand and raised it to his lips. He kissed it ever so softly and then we departed the bathroom and made our way over to the table. The police were showing up and Percy was busy trying to calm his customers.
"We are going to call it a night," Lance said to our dinner partners. "Have a safe trip home."
"Uh, bye," I called as Lance hurried over to the door.
The rest of our friends said 'bye' rather uncertainly. They couldn't figure out what was going on with Lance, as I could not either. The drive home was awkward. Lance was silent. He never muttered a word. I didn't either. I didn't know what was going on. All that could be heard was the sound of his breathing.
When he pulled into the garage, he got out. I stepped out of the car, too.
"We need to talk."
I followed him up to the bedroom. When he sat down, he had his shirt unbuttoned partially, revealing some of his nice chest. I had a hard time focusing on his words.
"You said a few months ago that you were a mutant. None of us really questioned it before. But I'm questioning it now."
"Does that mean you don't want to be in a relationship with me because I'm a mutant?" How else could I have taken his silence?
"What is your mutation?"
"What?"
"I remember you levitating up the fire escape at the hotel in Los Angeles. IS that your mutation? The ability to fly?"
"No."
"Then what is it?"
I became very nervous and steeled myself for rejection for the third time. I did not know if my heart could take being broken again.
"I have the ability to manipulate and control atoms and molecules."
"What all does that entail?"
"So far I can control fire. And just recently I controlled the atoms of electricity. And I can pick things up by manipulating the air molecules and my own molecules to combine them. It makes it seem like I move things with my mind."
"Like what happened with Turic in the warehouse."
"Right."
Lance nodded his head and looked away. The silence was hurting more than his words. I didn't know if I was supposed to leave and sleep in the other room, to touch him and kiss him, or to just stand there. I decided on standing there and waiting for him to make the next move.
Lance turned and looked up at me.
"I have to ask you this. And I want you to tell me the truth, no matter what. Do you promise?"
"Yes," I replied trying to sound calm, although I knew what was coming. He was going to end our relationship.
"Are you Batman?"
Okay, he wasn't ending our relationship. But he might if I told him. He may not want to date a freak like me. He obviously had some reservations. But I promised I would tell him the truth, no matter what.
I took a deep breath.
"Yes."
Lance closed his eyes. I couldn't tell what he was thinking. I relaxed to let my consciousness stretch out and attempted to mix my mental molecules with his. I wanted to know what he was feeling.
Tears formed in his eyes and he began to sob.
"Why didn't you tell me?"
"Why didn't I tell you I was Batman?"
"Yes! Why didn't you? Didn't you trust me enough to tell me? Did you think I would share it with other people? I kept the secret of me being gay. I think I could keep that secret, too.
"Or did you think I would blackmail you for sex? If you didn't do what I wanted, I would share your secret with the rest of the world?"
"Neither!" I declared stepping up to him and taking his face into mine. "I love you! I know you love me! I didn't want you to know because I thought you would not want to be involved with me! And I didn't want others to find out who I was and then threaten you with it! I couldn't handle you being put in danger because of my own actions as Batman!"
"But my heart was in danger every time you put that mask on! My heart was in danger of losing you! I love you and don't want you to die! My world would fall apart if I lost you!"
I took him to my mouth and kissed him. We kissed until our hearts calmed down. Then we stopped. He looked into my eyes.
"Why are you Batman?"
"Because...I hate the fact no one is taking control of the great evil in our world. You know what happened in Los Angeles with Mrs. Freeze and the Firefly. You know what Jessica does. I helped her many times. And there are other times you don't even know about.
"Look at what is going on here with the children. Do you remember the other night when I had you follow the children and I got out of the car? A woman was trying to recruit the teenagers...for what, I don't know. But if I were to do that constantly as Eric McCoy, you would be put in danger. And no one would ever fear me. I'm not that special.
"But Batman is. He has a following already of being tough and scary and intimidating. I needed his symbol to blend into the darkness so I can counteract its effects."
Lance's eyes moved to my shirt. Then his hand moved up and he began to caress my chest.
"Let me see it. Let me see the suit."
I took a deep breath and let it out. My hand moved down to the buttons on my shirt and slowly I opened them revealing the suit underneath.
"It's true. You are Batman."
"Yes."
Lance looked at the suit, up at my face, and began to smile.
"What's so funny?"
"You are," he replied.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I said uncertainly.
"It means you are wonderful."
Lance grabbed me and pulled me over to the bed.
That night we made mad passionate love. No more secrets hidden from him. I was completely open and honest with him and our lovemaking became much fuller.
I lay in his arms and he ran his fingers along my chest.
"Are you going to continue being Batman since I know now?"
"I'd like to. At first I wasn't. When I came to Orlando with you, Batman had become a memory for me. But after seeing that vampires were running rampant here, and now Poison Ivy, I feel Batman must go on."
"I agree. You should continue being Batman." I couldn't believe my ears. This was too good to be true. "On one condition."
"What's that?"
"That you will always come back to me alive."
"Always," I said.
I pulled his face to mine and kissed him again. As we kissed I reached over and turned out the lamp light, leaving us in the dark.
To Be Continued...
What do you think of this? Poison Ivy and Robin are here! And now Lance knows! Did I do okay with the way Lance figured it out? I wasn't planning on him learning so quickly. But I've said it before, this story has taken on a life of it's own! I just write what the characters tell me!
Let me know what you think!
Also, I drew a picture of Robin. Email me if you would like to see it. It doesn't deviate too much from the Robin in the comic books, but there are subtle enough changes.
