Luca is a Pentar, able to control the five elements; Earth, Air, Water, Fire, and Space. He must be brave, he must be strong, but above all he must stay calm or bad things will happen but when Luca saves seventeen year-old Ethan Rey it threatens all he's worked for. Will he choose love or to save the world? M/M
The sun rises, just like it does every morning, but I have to prepare anyway.
I have to be ready.
I have to stay calm.
The alarm on my shitty phone rings and I struggle to find it. Ugh, I must of fell asleep reading Fictionpress again. I find it under my pillow and I push disable. I stay under the cover longer than I am supposed to, watching the analog clock on the phone screen until the light fades out. I begin to drift off again when the phone screams in my hand.
Kate.
"Dammit Kate I'm up!"
"Luca you know you have to be up and getting dressed by now! You cannot miss school!"
"You know I'm really starting to hate being a Pentar. Being prepared sucks."
"I wonder if you'd be saying that if I had a knife at your throat. Now get the fuck up and wear a cute outfit today, we're going to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch, my treat."
"Oh yes like I could afford to treat you with my library salary." I saw now out of bed and heading for the closet.
"My dad offered you a job at the factory."
"Oh yeah, the gun factor full of homophobic assholes, you know what happens when I get angry."
"Actually I don't, I've never completely say it. The Prophet said all your elements would go off at once. What do you think she meant?"
"I don't know, and I don't want to find out. Ok now hang up so I can stop procrastinating."
"Bye love," she says, I can hear her smile.
I hit the little red end button and I throw my phone on the bed. Ok, clothes. It's sort of hard to be "cute" with a strict school uniform. Shit! I forgot to wash a load of clothes yesterday. Seriously online erotica is going to be the death of me. I find a white fitted shirt, some khaki shorts, and a giant grey sweater.
I sit back on the bed and I pick up the Tracphone to check the time. Shit I have to be out in five! For a person who isn't supposed to get angry I curse a lot.
"Well this will have to do."
I quickly brush my teeth, I grab my gay pride rainbow bracelet, and I put on my favorite gray Vans. I check the phone again.
"Ha, one minute to spare."
I check to make sure I have my keys and my book, The Claiming of Sleeping Beauty, and I'm out the door. I live in suburban Florida where the temperature can go from 70 to 100 degrees in 10 minutes, so on days like this it helps to have control of the elements. I shrug of my sweater, tie it around my hips, and I get a good breeze going behind me.
Is now a good time to tell you about me? I'm Luca Maines and I'm the Pentar. Do you remember that show, The Last Air Bender, the Avatar? That show that every kid has watched at some point on Nickelodeon with the bald kid with blue arrows on his body. Well I'm sort of like him, though I'm pretty sure Aang wasn't gay thought it would be pretty cool if he was.
Anyway I'm Luca. Little white boy with long black hair and glasses. Luca who is never not reading something. Luca who has lunch with the Art teachers and Luca who is the epitome of a Gemini; indecisive, OCD, and hopelessly bipolar. Needless to say I didn't have very many friends. Except Kate of course.
We met three years ago, the year I found out who I really was. She was a bright eyed, curly haired, eight grader with a power with a mood like a coin. Few dared to flip it to see what they got. I guess I was one of them.
It was about October and the bell had just ringed signaling the end of first period. I had Drama, which as amazing as it was did not compare to Fifty Shades of Grey. I was hopelessly reading near the end, nearly in tears, when the bell rang. At the end of class I usually quickly threw my book in my bag before anyone could see what I was reading but I was not putting it down. I had to find out the fate of Christian and Ana. I got up from my desk and walked right out of class, into the hallway with the book close to my near-sided eyes. This was before I got glasses and I was hopelessly blind.
I kept at it, barely aware of where I was going when I ran into a frazzled Kate trying to open her locker. I nearly dropped my book but managed to maintain my grip and I held it close to chest.
"I...I," I began but she interrupted me.
"Don't worry about it," she said reaching for the book.
I recoiled quickly, hugging the book tighter to my torso.
"Oh something for school, for English" I lied looking at her breast. I may be as they call "strictly dickly" but damn they were huge.
"I'm in your English class idiot," she said buttoning the top button on her shirt. Damn, she noticed!
Oh yeah!" Ya know maybe if I didn't have a book always have my fucking nose in a book I would have recognized her but I didn't even remember her name.
"And I don't think we are studying Ana's relationship either. What part are you at?"
At that moment I think I smiled for the first time in months. From that point on we were inseparable. We constantly fangirled over Fifty Shades and when we finished we resorted to online smut. We began a routine; we'd both read something on some site and we'd send the links to each other, anything from yaoi, yuri or regular ol' M/F.
That December my parents were murdered.
Kate came over that Friday to stay the weekend. We pretty much planned to read smut and drink Mountain Dew. I had just put in one of my many Christina Aguilera CDs. Kate and I we're in my room and the sun had just set but we still had the blinds open.
Kate saw him first.
A man in the window. A smiling man.
His eyes were yellow, his pupils the blackest black I ever saw, staring directly at me. She didn't scream but she tapped my shoulder and pointed towards the man. I didn't have time to scream. In a split second the man was inside, at the foot of my bed. He was wearing a black suit, almost the color of those eyes, but it was his smile that paralyzed me. He was murmuring something I know think was Pentar but I didn't have time to ponder it at the time.
At that moment my dad busted into the room with the shotgun he kept in the closet. I looked at the man, unable to speak. I looked down at his hands. They were surrounded in a cluster of beautiful blue sparks. He turned away from us and with a slight move of the hand sent electricity coursing through Daddy's body. Daddy looked at me when he fell and said the word that haunts me to this day.
"Sorry."
My breathing became ragged as tears started to fall from my eyes. Kate grabbed my hand and help on tightly while soft tears fell from hers.
"What do you want?!" she yelled, me still completely mute.
His voice was rough, like he had rocks in his throat and his lips barely moved when he spoke. My mother came I, kitchen knife in hand, but she would meet a similar end. I saw her fall to the floor, the floor that was covered in the clothes she told me to pick up two days ago. It was all too much. The man inched closer to me.
"Come on kid get angry! Get scared! Let it all go dear, you'll feel better!"
Too much? Too much?
His ran his electric hands through my hair.
"Let go" He whispered, cackling afterwards.
Suddenly a woman in a dark purple cloak appeared at the door.
"Don't listen to him Luca! Calm down, everything will be fine." I could barely hear what she was saying.
The man's head snapped backwards and his smile began to fade.
"I killed you! Centuries ago!" he screamed so loud I had to cover
