The smoke from my pipe hung in the sultry evening air.
Sultry. Now there's a word not usually associated with Northern Maine. Louisiana? Yeah. But Maine?
I know it's summer, but the heat this year is something else. And this far North, we don't usually have central air. Heck, around here, even a window unit is a rare creature. Even rarer than us.
Although we had all the windows propped open, the house was too damned hot. So here I sat, on the front porch, naked as the day I was born, having a smoke.
I'd sent Kip into town to get us something to eat 'cause there was no way I was going to heat the house up any more. So, I was alone, save for my thoughts, which were as heavy as the smoke wreathing my head. The smoke kept the insects away, thank goodness. The mosquitoes were bad this year, too.
The rumble of Kip's truck coming up the drive split the still air. He pulled up in front of the house, the pounding beat cutting off as he shut off the engine. He walked up the path, carrying a couple of flat boxes.
He was a dark haired bear of a man, with a thick beard and piercing blue eyes. He was wearing sandals, khakis, and a gaudy Hawaiian shirt, flapping open, showing off his fur covered chest. We'd been together for more than a decade and I loved him as much today as I did the day I met him.
"Supper," he grinned, sliding the boxes onto the table.
"Pizza? As if it's not hot enough," I groused, nonetheless reaching to open one of the boxes.
"Well, you've got to go through hot pizza before you can have cold pizza," he grinned, pulling out a slice, folding it in half before taking a bite.
"Well?" I asked through a mouthful.
"Well," he said after he swallowed, "Whatever it was, Tony and the boys felt it, too. He says every bear stopping in the last couple of days felt it, but none of them knows what it was either."
He put down his slice and popped inside. When he returned, he had shed his clothes and brought a couple of bottles of beer.
"There's also a rumor going around that Grandpapa's been seen," he said as he dropped back down onto the bench.
"Huh," I grunted.
A few days ago, I...we had felt...well, it's hard to describe. It was as if someone had wrapped their arms around me, making me feel safe and loved. It was similar to how I felt when Grandpapa was around. Similar, but different.
And it appeared we weren't alone.
"Around here?" I asked.
Kip shook his head.
"Up North and out West. At least that's what they're saying."
I hadn't shared with him what I had felt later. It came again, but this time it was more...intimate. And it made me remember things I really hadn't wanted to think about.
But ever since I couldn't stop.
It was a day burned into the minds of people everywhere, the day the Towers fell. It had only been about six months since Kip had 'joined' the family and we were out on our own. I wasn't able to get a hold of either Rick or Paul. They were both firefighters in New York City, to everyone there, father and son. Whether anyone really believed that or not, I don't know. Paul didn't look like Rick at all. Now Jim, or even me, we took after him.
It was the next day before I finally heard from Paul.
And I wished I hadn't.
I'm not proud of my reaction. In my grief, I took my anger out on Paul. I knew he was already hurting, but I couldn't help myself. At the point when he needed all the support he could get, I lashed out at him. I wish I could take back the words I'd said, but what's done is done.
But by the time I had come to realize the harm I had done, he was gone. I heard rumors, about him burying himself in debauchery, trying to lose himself in alcohol and random sexual encounters.
To his credit, he always played it safe, but then, he always had when he played outside our... kind. That was part of the reason he had always stayed with Rick.
I hadn't talked to him since that terrible, terrible day, but he was never far from my thoughts. I couldn't blame him if he hated me. Hell, I hated myself for some of the things I had said to him.
But whatever it was I felt that second time, it had to do with Paul. I don't know how I knew that, but I did. I so wanted to call him, but I didn't even know how to get a hold of him. I'm not even sure what name he's going by these days.
"Want to go down to the river?" Kip asked, breaking my thoughts.
I sat there, feeling the sweat trickle down the crack of my ass to soak into the wooden chair beneath me.
"Sure. Maybe that'll cool us down," I said, standing up.
"Then maybe we can heat things up a bit," he grinned, running his hand through my damp fur.
"Maybe we can."
We walked down the earthen path, the roar of falling water rising to meet us. The trees thinned to reveal the little hydroelectric plant that provided all the power we needed.
Okay, it was little more than a water wheel, but I was still proud of it. Built it myself. Don't just teach engineering after all.
Beyond it, the ground dropped away and the river crashed over the edge.
"The last one in has to fuck me," Kip laughed, running toward the edge. He jumped out, wrapping his arms around his legs and dropped out of sight. A large splash was barely audible over the crash of the falls. I stepped to the edge to see him surfacing, wiping water from his face.
"Come on in! The water's fine!" he called.
"And that cub is finer," I chuckled, enjoying the feel of the mist cooling my flesh.
I stepped back and rushed forward, leaping into the air, arms outstretched. As the air ripped the sweat from my body, the water rose to meet me. My hands dropped to part the surface and I sluiced into the river's cool embrace.
The water tugged at me, slowing my descent and I arced, kicking to the surface.
"Ten point O," Kip laughed, holding up his hands, sinking slightly.
"I got more than ten for you," I growled in return, swimming towards him.
"Oh, I know you do," he chuckled, waggling his eyebrows lasciviously.
As I surged towards him, he struck out towards the waterfall.
I swam after him, fond memories floating to the surface of my mind. Back in the day, skinny dipping was fairly standard. Even when I was in school, swimsuits were practically unheard of, especially when there were no females around. To me, that just made it all the better. Then, too, they had been mere boys. What I was after now was a real bear. Or likely soon will be.
Kip clambered up onto the rocks, his dark fur plastered to his body. He turned and winked at me before he sidled behind the falls.
I followed after him, the roar of the waterfall nearly deafening. There was a cave behind the shimmering sheet of water, cool and mossy. He was there waiting for me, fur already sprouting across his face. I reached for him, claws beginning to emerge from my fingertips.
He grinned toothily and reached behind him. From somewhere, he pulled a large rubber dildo.
My gales of laughter echoed over the pounding waterfall.
I loved Kip with all my heart, but he was a confirmed bottom. I could count the number of times he'd topped me on one paw. Normally, I was okay with that, but every so often, I'd get a wild hair up my ass...to get a wild dick up my ass. Yeah, we could always hook up with another bear, and that's often what we did.
But not this time.
I laid back and he dropped his face into my damp crack. His shaggy muzzle scoured between my furry cheeks, his tongue lapping at my pucker. At least he liked eating ass. And was good at it. He slobbered away at my hole as I writhed on the mossy ground. Finally, he drew back, his facial fur flattened and covered with drool.
His long tongue flicked out, licking his lips as he held the dildo under his leaking cock, letting it get slimed up good. I grabbed my ankles and spread my legs wide for him. He held the fake cock by its balls-shaped base and teased my sphincter. With a grin, he shoved it in, deep.
My head fell back with a howl as the rubber nuts pressed into my crack. Damn, it'd been a long time since I'd had anything up there, but it felt so good. So good, in fact that I didn't realize Kip had straddled my hips until he began sliding down onto my thick shaft. When he sat firmly on my lap, I sat up, wrapping my arms around him, driving the dildo deeper into my ass. I started rocking back and forth, that rubber dick stirring my guts as Kip rode my bear cock. I ran my face through his fur as his rod prodded my belly. I latched onto one of his tits, running my hands up and down his furry back. He grabbed two handfuls of my hair, before pushing my face against his other nipple.
Suddenly, the pressure on my prostate was too much. I blasted my cub's ass full of my papa seed, biting down hard on his nip. With a loud roar, his load sprayed across my belly, matting our fur together.
As I came down from my orgasm, the pressure against my bladder grew. I tried to lift him off my turgid shaft.
"What wrong?" he said, grinding himself on my lap, only increasing the pressure.
"I gotta go," I roared, trying to easy myself out from under him.
"Then go," he growled, pressing himself harder against me.
I let out a groan as my piss burst out, filling his hole, mixing with my sperm. His belly became distended. His moans echoed through the small space as the stream trickled off.
I struggled to my feet, lifting my cub with me, the dildo slipping from my ass with a wet pop. I took a careful step forward, then another, until we were at the edge of the falls. With a grin, I wrapped my arms around his waist and jumped into the roiling cascade. The pounding water pulled him away from me, my cock popping from his hole, releasing the contents of his bowels into the river. We surfaced, laughing.
"So how long have you been planning this?" I grinned.
"Well, for a couple of days. I knew you've been out of sorts, so wanted to do something different. Planted it there this morning."
I pulled him to me and kissed him as we floated in the churning water, wondering how I'd gotten so lucky.
We headed back to the house, sated and cooled off. When we got there, I noticed I had a voice mail. It wasn't a number I recognized, but was stunned when I listened to it.
"Hi, Mark. This is Paul. I was really hoping we could talk. Please give me a call. Hope to talk to you soon. Bye."
I stood frozen, shaken by the realization of the chance for reconciliation I held in my hand.
"Who was it?" Kip asked.
"It was Paul," I whispered.
"Call him back," Kip urged.
"I will," I said softly, hitting the redial.
