Sarah noticed Allison wince as she brought the washcloth near her midsection during their daily shower. Knowing that Allison tended to minimize injuries, she spoke up, "What's up, sweets? I saw that flinch."
"Nothing. I'm just a little tender today."
"That didn't look like a simple wince. I'll call Mom when we finish."
"OK, OK. It's just been a bad day. My monthly visitor came today during lunch and I caught a ball in the stomach at practice. So, I'm not feeling real good right now. Satisfied?"
"Yes, sweetheart. I worry when you get hurt or aren't feeling well. Caught a ball in the stomach? How? Not paying attention?"
"It was an accident. I was marking someone on the other team when there was a turnover. The pass came in low, just as I turned and before I could react. It knocked the wind out of me. Since it was near the end of practice, the coach said I could go."
"How can I help?"
"I could use a tummy rub and massage."
"Basic or full?"
"Just a basic, sunshine. I'm afraid I'm not going to be much fun today."
"No problem. I need to get something from downstairs while you finish here. I'll meet you in the bedroom."
Allison knew Sarah wanted to talk to her mom, but let it go, "OK. Don't be too long, please."
"I won't. Why don't you put something on the stereo and light a candle." Sarah wrapped herself in a towel and went downstairs. Her mom was sitting at the kitchen table, going through the mail.
"What's up, darling?"
"Allison's not feeling well."
"Did she say why?"
"Her period started today and she caught a kicked ball in the stomach. She said she's just sore, but I wanted to make sure you knew."
"Do you think I need to come take a look?"
"Not yet. I was going to give her a tummy rub and massage. Is that OK?"
"Should be. Just pay attention to how she responds. Try not to press too hard, at first."
"OK. I was going to use some clove and rosemary in the massage oil. Should I use anything stronger?"
"Not yet. Why those two scents?"
"They both have an anti-inflammatory property."
"That's interesting. On your next break, can you list out some references on aromatherapy for me?"
"Sure, Mom. Can you call Allison's mom and let her know she probably won't be home for dinner?"
"No problem, kitten. I believe you have a patient waiting for you?"
"Thanks, mom."
"Let me know if you need me." Sarah bent down to kiss her mom's cheek and ran back upstairs.
Allison had spread a towel on the bed and was curled up on it. Karen Carpenter was singing 'Rainy Days and Mondays' in the background. Dropping her towel, "Sorry I took so long, Ally, I had to get something for the massage oil. Can you sit up for me, please?"
Allison rolled over and let Sarah slip between her and the headboard. She drew Allison back between her spread legs until she could rest her head on Sarah's shoulder. "I've got you, darling. Relax and be comfortable." Sarah moved to rest her hands on Allison's stomach and she tensed, almost moving her hands to protect herself.
Sarah caught Allison's hands, putting them back on her knees, "Relax. I will do everything I can do not to hurt you, but you have to let me try. We will go very slowly. You will let me know if I do anything that hurts you. You will let me know if I do anything that makes you feel good. I love you."
Allison whispered, "OK," and her hands relaxed.
Sarah rubbed a small amount of oil on her hands, warming it. She rested one hand on Allison's hip, away from her stomach. Cooing, soothingly, "Relax. Be comfortable. Your arms are heavy. You can't move them off my legs." While she talked, Sarah moved her other hand to Allison' ribcage. Allison flinched but otherwise didn't move or say anything.
Sarah kissed Allison's ear and neck. "Take a breath. As you let it out, your back relaxes. Take another breath. As you let it out, your legs relax." Sarah moved both hands to Allison's stomach. "Your eyelids are very heavy. You can't keep them open. Take another breath. As you let it out, your stomach relaxes." Sarah felt Allison's ribs and stomach relax.
Sarah got some more oil on her hands, renewing the clove and rosemary scent. She started rubbing Allison's stomach in small, easy circles, getting her used to the touch, seeing how sensitive she was. After a minute or so, she started stroking gently with her thumbs from just under Allison's breasts down to just above her panties. Going a little wider with each stroke, Sarah continued. When she reached Allison's sides, she moved back to her middle, pressing a little harder with each set of strokes. Allison started to purr very softly.
After a few passes, Sarah started stroking in from Allison's sides, over her ovaries, towards her center. By now, Allison was almost molded to Sarah — she was so relaxed. Sarah continued to stroke across Allison's stomach. At one point, Allison shivered and said, "Ooh," very softly. After a few more passes, Sarah was ready to start the massage.
"Sweets, are you ready for the massage?" After no response from Allison, Sarah carefully rolled her onto her side. Sarah reached down and pulled up the covers. Snuggling down, she enfolded Allison in her arms, spooning and protecting her.
Sarah rested her chin atop Allison's head, waiting for sleep to come, and reflected on her life. There had been a lot of changes, physically and emotionally, since she'd met Allison. Sarah had grown about a half inch, Allison closer to an inch. Sarah's figure had only filled out a little, maybe a cup size in her breasts, a bit sharper in the hips. Allison had changed more.
The emotional turmoil that surrounding her friends finding out about her relationship with Allison had died down. Those that objected left them alone. Those that didn't kept life normal. They attended a few parties, even hosted one or two. Not having to worry about dating allowed them to concentrate on their studies, with a noticeable improvement in their grades. Both Allison's soccer coach and Sarah's cheerleading coach had commented that their performance was better.
The one thing that almost everyone commented on was Sarah's confidence. She was comfortable as the center of attention now. While not an upfront leader, she acted as the calm at the center of the storm of life. Some said that they could tell where she was by her glow. Comments about her relationship with Allison no longer bothered her, for the most part. She saw that those comments didn't change her relationship with Allison. She had the firm foundation of her parents' support if things got vehement. She thought, ("Life is good") as sleep claimed her.
Sarah woke up to someone kissing her cheek. "Hi, Mom. What time is it?" she asked sleepily.
Sarah's mom replied, "Late. How is Allison doing?"
"The tummy rub put her out. I didn't even get to the massage."
"Hungry?"
"Not right now. I want to stay here in case Ally wakes up."
"OK. I'll leave something in the 'frig in case you get up later. Let me know if you need me. I'm going to bed."
"Thanks. 'Nite, mom."
" 'Nite, dear." She blew out the candle and turned out the light as she closed the bedroom door.
Sarah woke up a few hours later. She shook Allison's shoulder, "Hey, sunshine. I need to visit Mother Nature and I'll bet you do too. Hungry?"
Allison sounded like she wasn't totally awake, "I guess."
Sarah took one of Allison's hands and rested it on her shoulder and led them to the bathroom. When they were done, she told Allison, "I'm going to raid the 'frig. Why don't you go back to bed?"
"OK."
Sarah went downstairs into the kitchen. She found a plate of sandwiches wrapped in plastic and knew that that was what her mom had left for them. She poured a glass of milk and went back upstairs. Sarah found Allison propped up against the headboard with her eyes closed. "Praise be to the momster. There is a special place reserved for moms who take care of their kids so well. If my stomach was any emptier, you could reach my back through my front."
Allison opened her eyes and smiled. Sarah sat on the edge of the bed, "What did Mom leave us?" Looking as she unwrapped the plate, "Oh, goody. Chicken salad!" She tore off a piece of one sandwich and popped it into her mouth, "Mmmmmmm."
She tore off another piece and popped it into Allison's mouth. Her eyes flew open as she chewed. "More please."
"My pleasure, love. Just lay back and enjoy. I am happy to serve you." Sarah proceeded to alternately feed herself and Allison until the plate was empty, including any crumbs, and the milk glass was empty. Allison's color looked better. "Why don't you slide down and go back to sleep? I'll take the dishes down in the morning."
"OK, sunshine. Thanks. I owe you."
"No, you don't. I do love you. What was it someone said, 'Lovers celebrate when life is good, and comfort each other when it isn't.' That's all I was doing, comforting you." Sarah spooned up behind Allison again, but this time, nestled into Allison's neck so she could kiss Allison's ears and neck if she wanted to.
When they woke up again, Sarah gave Allison another tummy rub and a massage. They were showered, dressed, and fixing breakfast when Sarah's mom came downstairs. "Good morning, ladies. How are you feeling, Allison?"
"OK, I guess, Dr. Black. Sarah's brand of TLC is very effective." Sarah blushed a bit at the praise.
"May I take a look, please?"
"Sure." Allison pulled up her T-shirt and stood there while Sarah's mom examined her stomach.
After a minute or so, "You can put your shirt down, Allison. You'll be OK, but I suspect a soccer-ball-sized bruise will show up before long."
"I suspect you're right."
"It smells good. What's for breakfast?"
The three ladies conversed as they ate. When they were finished, the girls cleared the table and did the dishes. Allison hugged Sarah's mom, "Thanks for caring for me."
"You're welcome, darling. Anytime."
Sarah stood by the door. Allison kissed her deeply, completely, "Thanks, munchkin. I'll call you later. I don't know what I did to ever deserve you."
Sarah smiled, kissing Allison back. "I don't know if you deserve me or not. I don't know if I deserve you. I told you last night, I give because I love you. Just as you have given to me in similar situations. Now go before I throw you down and make mad, passionate love to you right here in the doorway, scandalizing the whole neighborhood."
"OK, OK. I'm going. We'll have to keep that idea in mind for the future, though."
"Oh, you," lightly punching her in the arm.
Allison chuckled as she walked through the yard towards her house.
