Chapter 2 Matt

He slammed his locker door closed. A couple of other people had said some shit to him. On the good side, he was in ALL of Travis's classes. Every single one. How coincdental is that? In most of them, he went to sit with his friends, but he noticed him hovering towards him in gym class and around the end of the day in history. "Screw them. I don't care about them" Matt thought as he slipped his headphones into his ears. He was listening to Nightwish. They were a really good band with an opera singer and really heavy guitars. Not everyone's taste, but hey, he... He was interrupted by a tap on his shoulder. He spun around with a bored look on his face, expecting it to be yet another person with a snide comment, but, to his surprise, he saw the smiling face of Travis. A smile was plastered onto his face as he said

"Hey...Matt, was it?"

"Yeah, what's up?"

"Oh, not much, Just wondering where you lived..."

Matt was taken aback. "Why, so you can tell all your little gino friends and pull some pranks?" he said snidely.

Travis looked genuinely shocked. "What, you think I'd actually do that? No. I heard some people talking at lunch about how there was this new kid and they were gonna give him the hazing of a lifetime. Now, the guys don't usually mess with me, and I was wondering if you wanted me to walk you home." He said, slightly out of breath. "Not that you need, protection or anything;" he added hurriedly, "but... being new and all... besides... I was wondering if you wanted to be friends..."

After this little speech, Matt simply stated. "Why not. I live near Rosedale. Is that too far for you to walk or anything?"

Travis relpied with "No way! I live near Rosedale! What road are you on?"

"Oak Street. It's that big black house. It's pretty cool looking."

"NO FUCKING WAY! That house is like... in my backyard! Like... I literally jump the fence and I'll be in your yard. That's awesome!"

"Cool. So I guess we should get going? I don't wanna be home too late. I can't believe all the fucking homework they gave us."

"I know. HEY! I just had a crazy idea. Do you wanna be homework buddies? I mean like, we can chill at each other's houses after school and do our homework, then just hang out and like... listen to music or whatever. That is, if your parents don't mind..."

"No, they won't. Wanna start today? My parents aren't home today anyway."

"Sure. Oh, and I have a great system too. We can split up the work, 50/50. Then we just copy each other's answers. Then we both have notes to study for on the tests. Hehe, the tests this year are supposed to be hard. We might have to pull an all-nighter." He put the emphasis on the last phrase, and gave Matt a little wink.

"Haha, okay, let's go."

The walk home was uneventful. They talked about their (very different) music tastes, but Travis was very open to hearing what Matt had to say about his favourite bands.

"And this band that I was listening to before when I was at my locker was Night..." But that word was never completed. Some tough looking jocks came up to Matt and Travis and , cracking their knuckles menacingly, said:

"Hey fag boys. Where are you going, over to each other's houses to suck each other's cocks?"

Matt was red behind the ears, as he always was when embarassed. Travis, on the other hand, stepped up to the challenge.

"Yeah, that's where we're going. You got a problem with that, breeders?"

They were taken aback at this blatant "honesty". They taunted them again by bursting out into Diana Ross' "I'm Coming Out". Travis started singing with them, and he knew all the words when they were humming. He then grabbed Matt's hand and walked away with him, pushing those jock losers out of the way.

Matt was shocked. He was taking this as an assumption that Travis was gay. I don't think either of them noticed or minded that they were holding hands all the way to Matt's house.

Travis

Travis sat on Matt's bed. Wow. He'd never seen the inside of this house. It was gorgeous. Matt's room was sorta big too. He flung himself back so he was laying on the bed, which ruined the back of his perfectly spiked hair, but he didn't care. He heard the stereo blast out some unknown rock band. A moment later Matt sat on the bed next to Travis. Travis sat up.

"Uhh... You have a nice room." He said, tapping his foot to what was unmistakeably "screamo". He sorta liked it.

Matt stared at a random spot in the wall. He was fixated. "Yeah, it's cool," He suddenly turned to Travis and said, "Hey Travis, uh.... Are you gay? I don't care if you are or anything, but I was just thinking because of all the "rainbow gino" stuff and all that you might have been, and..." But that sentence was never finished as he felt a pair of lips press against his. Lightly, yet forcefully.

"Does that answer your question?" Travis asked with a sly grin

"It would, wouldn't it?" Matt replied. He threw himself back onto the bed. Travis did the same. They were facing each other. Their faces inched closer, closer, closer. Their lips met and they both felt an electric surge run through their bodies. It brought shivers down Travis' spine.

"I knew that I liked you ever since I saw you in English class. When I looked into your eyes, I could see your soul, and I knew that you were the person that I wanted to be with."

"When I saw you I fell in love, and you smiled because you knew."

"Is that Shakespeare?"

"Yeah."

"I love Shakespeare. He's just so great. Have you read Hamlet? I've read it like 4 times, and would you like to go out with me?

"I'd love to" Matt said with a smile on his face.

"Well, let's get to work. These math problems are going to kill us.
