Chapter 1

Matt

"Don't get me wrong, mom, I love Toronto, but I've heard about this school. I hear it's total ginos. I mean come on now... eww!" Matt said, rubbing his eyes. He needed his coffee, but his mom would freak if she saw him drinking it. Ah well, he'll just have to pick one up on the way to school.

"Come on Matthew, It can't be that bad", Mrs. Quentin replied with a slight frown at her son. She'd always hated his stereotypical view of social groups. Personally she believed that people are people, no matter who they hang out with.

Matt downed a Toaster's Strudel, gave his mom a kiss on the cheek and a quick "Later, Mom" and he was on his way.

Matt is 15, about 5'9, about 140 lbs, and sort of skinny. He has black shoulder length hair, which turned purple 3/4 of the way down. He doesn't really care about the looks he gets because of his painted black finger-nails, or the thin amount of eyeliner that he wears. As you can tell, Matt is a goth, and quite an attractive one as well. All of the girls were after him, but that was a bit of a problem. You see, Matt is gay. He's out to a couple of friends, but they're not in Toronto.

"Ah well, at least I get to make quite a first impression!" Matt thought on his way to the predominantly "gino" school. He was wearing a long sleeve fishnet shirt underneath a short sleeve nirvana tee with a pair of black pants with lots of chains. His backpack was adorned with patches from his favourite bands, and of course, lots of safety pins.

Finally at school, Matt walked into the new building. You could certainly tell that this school wasn't built too long ago. There was no vandalism... yet.

From the moment he walked into the hall, he got looks, and he loved it. He was walking around the halls getting whispers along his way to the main office. Oh, he was going to like this year. It was only until he overheard a smart-assed little niner chatting with his friend did he have any doubts.

"Haha, hey Jimmy, look at that faggot with his purple hair. Can you say queer?" the little niner remarked smartly.

Matt looked at the kid and he fell silent. He looked down at him and said. "You know, little boy, if you're immature enough to be calling ME a faggot, then you're the true fag. Oh, and by the way, I prefer to be called gay."

And with that he walked away. The kid blinked, shocked, and then continued talking to his friends.

He walked into the main office coolly. He spent about 5 minutes registering with the secretary and picking up his schedule. He opened the door to leave the office, and that's when Matt saw him.

Matt dropped his schedule in pure shock of the beauty of this young man. He was talking with his friends. He was a gino, but at that moment, Matt didn't care. He walked by and for the rest of the day daydreaming about him. He didn't know why, but the mystery boy had a strange effect on him.

Travis

"Ah", said Travis contently, "There's nothing like hanging out with old friends at the beginning of what you can just tell will be a wonderful year."

"Aww, thanks Trav," replied his best friend Emma. She was pretty attractive, but Travis didn't really see her in that way. She was more like the sister he never had. He had always called her his sister from another mother, which made her smile.

"Let's have a look at my schedule," Travis said, changing the topic, "Score! I have music right after lunch!" Travis is what one would call a band nerd. Not because he looked like a nerd, but he liked music a lot. If he was a teacher's pet in anything, he always seemed to get a 95 percent or higher in that class without even trying. He plays soprano saxophone, or as Emma likes to call it, the "golden clarinet". He loves playing, and he's an excellent jazz musician.

"Hmm," He said as he skimmed through the rest of his schedule, "Not really anything else good, except English and Phys. Ed."

Just at that moment the bell went and it was tome to get to class.

"Well, this is going to be a fun day," he sighed sarcastically as he ran to English class with Emma.

By the time he got to class, there were only two seats left, and they were all the way across the class from each other. One was by the window overlooking the roof, and the other was near the wall beside the door. Travis plopped down into his desk next to this gothic guy with long hair. He was drawing something on his arm with a pen, it looked like a bunch of band names. He had to admit that the guy was pretty cute though, in a freaky sort of way. In case you couldn't tell, Travis is gay as well.

He saw his reflection in the window. He wasn't bad looking, about 5'8, 138 lbs, dark red spiked up hair, and a built body. He worked out every other day! He was proud of his body, and like all other ginos, he thought he looked damn good!

While he was admiring himself in the window, the cute gothic guy was secretly looking at him. Travis pretended not to notice, but he knew that he was being checked out. He turned around and gave the guy a little smile. He yanked a piece of paper from his notebook and scribbled down a note. On it he wrote: "Hey, I'm Travis. You new here? I would have noticed your cool hair"

** Matt **

Matt was sitting at his desk with his head down, when he felt a note slide under his arm. He read the note and gave Travis a quizzical look. He did that smile he did before again. It was adorable. He couldn't believe that this gino kid could be so friendly. Usually ginos are too wrapped up in themselves to even care about others.

Matt looked down at the paper and scrawled down a response. "Hey, I'm Matt. Yeah, I'm new here. What's up?"

He threw the note back. Later the note hit him in the head. He opened it to find a long message, it read:

Oh, not too much, by seeing you with your head down I'm going to assume that you're bored too. =) I like your hair, it's really cool. It's pretty... vibrant, I love it, you're just being who you are. But why purple?

Anyway, the bell is about to ring, but could you meet me after class and we can compare schedules and see if we have any classes together? If I don't see you after class, my MSN messenger address is rainbow_gino89@hotmail.com. Meet me after class and give me yours.

Love ( =P ),

Travis

Matt liked this letter, especially the love part. And the part where it says rainbow in his MSN address might mean something too.

After class as Matt walked out, he felt a tap on his shoulder.

"Well," Travis said, "Are you going to give me your MSN or what?"

"Oh sorry," Matt got out a pen and paper. "I'm not on often, so if you wanna talk to me, your best bet would be my cell. I'll put my number on here too"

"Cool, thanks." Travis replied, grabbing the piece of paper, "Luv ya, gotta run. See ya!"

Matt was genuinely shocked. "I think I'm gonna like this school" he thought.
