Small Sacrifices X
"Brian, what are you doing here?" JC asked, baffled by Brian's sudden return to the cell.
"Getting you and Justin out." Brian answered softly as to not disturb the slumbering bandits. "Is he able to get up?"
"I don't know. He's still asleep." JC told him.
"Then wake him up and find out." Brian ordered. He got up and waited by the gate. His eyes constantly guarded the staircase to the second floor. "Now, JC. There's not much time. Kevin will be downstairs any minute now."
JC suddenly began to rock the sleeping boy until he woke up from his sleep. Justin's eyes widened and immediately at the sight of his boyfriend looking down on him, he instantly tried to crawl away. JC tightened his grip on Justin's wrist, eliciting a painful whimper from his throat.
"Shh..." JC silenced Justin with his lips sealed over the boy's quivering lips.
Once JC broke the kiss, Justin slapped him across the face. JC massaged his face gently. Tears were streaming down his angular face. He crept slowly toward Justin.
"Guys, Kevin'll be here in any minute." Brian reminded them. "I have to go now. You're free to escape. Take care." And just as quickly as he came, he went. He was gone, leaving the two lovers alone once more.
"Please, Justin." JC cried softly.
He buried his face in Justin's chest and wrapped his arms around Justin's body.
"Baby, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." JC cried. "Please, Justin. You ought to know that I love you more than life itself. You mean the world to me. I'm so sorry. It pained me so much to see you in so much pain. I wanted to protect you from all the cruelty in the world. I knew that if people knew that I love you, people would want to hurt you. I tried to keep you a secret to protect you. Please, Justin. I love you. Let's just get out of here. And we'll start all over, again."
Justin sighed deeply, absent-mindedly running his slender fingers through JC's slick ravenous locks. For some reason, he doubted some of JC's words. Was it really to protect him that JC chose to keep their love affair clandestine? Or was it to benefit JC's career? Justin did not know for sure. However, it was clear that this was their only chance. The men in the building were sound asleep. If they were quite and careful enough, they could very well elude their fatal destiny.
"Okay." Justin whispered, kissing JC's forehead.
JC beamed with excitement. He shot straight up, pulling Justin in his arms. He only let go of the boy upon hearing his painful whimpers. JC gazed into Justin's eyes. There was still so much love within those dark blue orbs. Justin still loved him. He smiled widely before stealing a soft kiss from Justin's lips. They parted and now they must take their chance to escape.
They had been driving around town and the surrounding outskirts for the past hour, searching for that Ice Coffee Shop next to a railroad crossing. Joey in the front wheel drove Lance and Chris around town in the middle of the night. Chris was given the task of reading the map and Lance, being the keen observer, was always peering through the depths of the night searching for that crucial Ice Coffee Shop.
It was now near 3 am and they had ventured far beyond the city limits. Ahead of them, the road was completely consumed by darkness, obscuring any bright possibilities ahead of them. Lance glanced over his shoulders behind them. Just as dark if not more. At least ahead of them, Lance was able to decipher buildings with the aid of the headlights. Looking back was a different story. They were driving further and further into the uncertainties that lie before them.
"I give up!" Chris shrieked, tossing the map onto the floor in defeat. "We've been searching for the past two hours now and there's still no sign of that fuckin' Ice Coffee Shop. It probably doesn't exist in the first place."
"Of course, it does." Lance murmured.
"How do you know, Scoop?" Chris asked his friend.
"Because it's just up ahead of us." Lance smiled, victoriously. "Joey, pull over on the next block."
"Okay."
Joey complied with his boyfriend's orders. He pulled over the next block and parked directly under the florescent lamppost.
"This is it." Lance said. "We found it."
And sure enough it was indeed the Ice Coffee Shop JC had mentioned on his answering machine. One of a kind. All the shops along this stretch of road were unique in its own rights, catering to individuals of peculiar taste. There was no two shops of the same interests. And at the end of the long block was the railroad tracks. Now they must drive over the tracks and find their friends before it becomes too late.
JC tightened his grips on Justin's wrist. He helped his boyfriend up. Holding onto each other tightly, JC led Justin out of the cell. They tiptoed their way across the building toward the double doors. Once they reached the door that was standing in the way of their freedom, JC settled Justin against the wall so Justin could rest while he picked at the lock on the door.
JC meticulously worked his magic fingers on the lock, carefully picking at the lock until it popped open. He smiled widely as he removed the lock. He placed the lock on the floor quietly.
"Justin, I got it open." JC said. "I got it, baby."
When he received no response from his boyfriend, JC turned around to find his boyfriend in the arms of his ex-lover. Kevin had somehow snuck behind them and while JC was working on opening the lock, Kevin had seized Justin. He held onto the boy tightly. His hand sealed Justin's mouth while his other hand held the sword under Justin's neck. He only removed his hand from Justin's mouth when he detected the intense fear in JC's eyes.
"Josh!" Justin cried out. "Go! Leave me here! Just go! Run, Josh, run! I know you love me and so long as I know your love is for real I'll die happy."
"I can't." JC cried out painfully. "I can't leave you behind."
"But you have to. You have to go. You can save yourself."
"No." JC shook his head. "I can't. I won't leave this place without you by my side. We promised to each other and I can't leave you."
JC dropped down on his knees. Tears cascading down his face as he crawled his way toward Justin. He stopped before the boy and shifted toward Kevin. He tugged on his leg slightly.
"Please, Kevin. Let Justin go." JC begged. "Please, don't hurt him. I love him too much. Please, just let us be together. I need him in my life."
Kevin lowered his sword from Justin's neck. He pushed the boy into the waiting arms of his men so he could tend his one time lover who was kneeling before him.
"I was told to kill you." Kevin said, meeting JC on the floor. "But I can't." Kevin whispered softly into JC's ear. "We can leave this all behind us. You and me together. We can start all over. I'll forgive you for cheating on me with that whore. We can work this out. Just you and me. What do you say? Give us one more chance?"
JC lifted his head. He gazed into Kevin's eyes, whose green eyes were immersed in only passionate love. His eyes wandered away from Kevin's eyes to Justin who was still held captive against his will a few feet behind him.
"Don't do it, Josh!" Justin shrieked, struggling in his captor's arms. "Don't go with him. Don't stop loving me. 'Cuz I can take you leaving me to save yourself, but I can't take you not loving me anymore. Please, I'd rather die than to know that you no longer love me. Don't do this to me, Josh. I love you. Please don't stop loving me."
"Would you fuckin' shut up!" Kevin charged at Justin, slamming his fist into his abdomen.
Once Justin was on the floor, he returned to JC, who remained stagnant on the floor.
"What do you say?" Kevin asked once more. "Give us another chance?"
JC looked up at his one time lover and shook his head slowly.
"I can't. I can't be with you because I don't love you. I love Justin. And I can't stop loving him." JC told Kevin truthfully.
"You are aware that you cannot have both." Kevin spoke lowly.
"I know." JC nodded his head, understandingly.
"You leave tonight, but you cannot take both. You either take music or Justin with you and leave the other behind. You can't have both." Kevin told him.
"Kevin-"
JC was interrupted by the ringing noise from Kevin's cellular phone. He stepped away to answer his call. It was AJ on the other line.
"Kevin." AJ said into the phone. "I have here with me your cousin. I didn't want to do this, but if you don't take care of your task, I just might have to blow Brian's fuckin' brain away!"
"Go, Josh!" Justin yelled at the top of his lungs. "Run, Josh, run! I love you and you love me. That's all I need. Go!"
"I said, keep your fuckin' mouth shut!"
Kevin lashed out on Justin by slapping him across the face. He grabbed onto him by his curls and dragged him across the floor. He threw him against the wall and slammed his fist in his abdomen, again. Justin doubled over in pain and slumped to the ground. He crawled his way toward Kevin, holding onto his legs.
"Please don't hurt Josh." Justin begged. "It was my fault he left you. He didn't want to, but I made him. I made him leave you. It was me! It was me!"
"Don't listen to him, Kevin." JC cried out, vying for his ex-lover's attention.
"Shut up, Josh!" Justin shot back at his boyfriend before returning to Kevin. "You love him. Don't hurt him. Don't take his life away from him. You know very well that if you were to take his music you might as well slit his throat. Josh can't live without music."
Kevin sighed deeply. He never meant it to be so damn difficult. He bent over the boy. He lifted the boy's chin so they could make eye contact. He gently rubbed his fingers underneath Justin's eyes, wiping away the tears.
"So beautiful, has anyone told you that?" Kevin suddenly squeezed Justin's neck. "Too bad no one will ever get to see your beautiful face anymore because you'll have to die tonight." Kevin pulled Justin off the floor and threw him at his men.
"Take care of him, boys." He ordered.
"No!" JC shrieked, charging at Kevin. He backhanded Kevin for the first time ever.
Kevin cracked his neck. He gently ran his hand over his sore face. His hands grazed over his angular face, stopping when he felt the liquid underneath his fingertips. JC had never hit him. Ever. And now for some stupid fuckin' whore, JC lay a finger on. He no longer loved him. All wishful thinking possibilities painfully dissolved with that slap. He drew his sword. He raised his sword. He pointed the sword directly at JC.
"Question. You don't love me?" Kevin asked one more time.
"No."
"You love him?"
"Yes."
"How much do you love him?" Kevin asked.
"I don't know." JC answered. "Because I don't know if there's an amount big enough to describe how much I love him."
"What if I tell you that you there's a way you can show how much you love him?" Kevin paused, glancing over his shoulders to Justin on the floor. "Die for him."
Kevin closed his eyes as memories of a distant past danced across his vision. Memories of the times they spent together talking, dancing, making music together in their bedroom. They were meant for each other. There was no doubt in his mind that JC was his one true love and that he was his. It pained him to arrive at this point in their relationship when he had to be one to end true love's life.
"Yes."
His eyes remained shut as more memories flooded his consciousness. He stepped forward and thrust his sword into his true love's neck.
Lights from a jeep's headlights blinded everyone within. The crowd within the building quickly dispersed in all directions, disappearing into the night. Chris, Joey, and Lance got out of the jeep. Upon seeing their beloved friend on the floor immersed in his own blood, they rushed to JC's side, unaware of Justin a few yards away.
"No!" Justin cried out as his boyfriend's body crashed onto the hard floor. "God! No! Please, Josh, don't leave me! You can't die!"
He scrambled to JC's still body. Taking his boyfriend in his arms, he held onto him tightly as JC had done with him so many times before.
"Josh, I love you. I love you." Justin repeatedly cried as Lance put his arms around his friend.
Lance took a step back and took in the scenery before his eyes. The one thing that struck him was the blood that stained the concrete floor of this abandoned jailhouse. Engrossed in the blood was thick, sticky fluid. And Lance had an idea the extent of his friends' torture.
"Who did this?!" Joey hollered into Justin's face.
Justin broke away from JC for a brief moment to look Joey in the eyes. He shook his head and shed some more tears as he rocked JC's lifeless body gently.
"Shh...everything will be alright now." Lance assured his friend.
Justin did not utter a single word Lance had said to him. He could see vaguely Lance speaking to him, but he could hear him speak. All he could hear were the loud roars and grunts. His body painfully being slammed against the wall. His visions became blurred and he felt nausea, again. Within seconds, Justin collapsed, pulling JC on top of him. Together they lay, entwined in one another. JC on top of Justin. JC rested on Justin's chest. And Justin's arm draped over JC's lifeless body.
Kevin had since disappeared into the night, abandoning the scene. His men followed him out, demanding more money from him. They decided not too long ago that one million split among 11 men was not enough especially after all that they had perform. They surrounded Kevin in the darkened alley. They raised their guns at him, threatening to blow his brains away. Kevin smiled back at them. He twirled around, laughing at them, taunting them. Faded memories of distant past flashed before his eyes. The first touch. The first kiss. The first time they made love only to cry himself to sleep listening to JC whispering Justin's name in his sleep.
"My life has been over a long time ago."
Kevin dropped to the ground. He grabbed his sword and plunged it deep inside of him, ending his misery at last.
"Good-bye, my love. Maybe one day we'll meet again."
One day, they would meet. One day.
