Part 11 -- dray slave
This regime suits these slaves' status as animals. This is confirmed and marked out by additional initiation and processing which tends to follow after a period working as labour or outdoor slaves. Where a slave is noticed as a hard worker with a strong body it may be initiated as a dray slave, with a permanent future sweating and working to pull carts around the master's estate and outside.
These slave animals are kept naked apart from a set of 'shoes' which are secured into position and can never be removed.
Most dray slaves are fitted with three metal rings: in the nose, nipples and in the genital area. Heavy chains are welded permanently to these rings for use as the overseers' deem fit. For example each chain may merely be attached to the other to hang and jangle as the slave works. Or a chain may be used to secure a dray slave for punishment or to 'encourage' the slave in its work. Weights may also be attached.
The purpose of dray slaves is to pull carts which are used around the estate for moving equipment, waste, fuel, etc. Occasionally dray slaves have the honour of pulling one of the coaches which are sometimes used to transport overseers or even the master.
Dray slaves are shaved completely hairless and kept close shaved at all times.
Carts and coaches are attached to the slaves using hard leather harnesses and more chains. Attachments can be used to link these to the rings in the slaves' bodies, for a more painful slave experience.
The daily routine varies depending on the items which need transporting and the needs of the overseers. There are some standard features to the dray slaves' daily routine as follows:

slaves sleep close chained to rings in the slave sty floor, attached to their nose or nipple ring.

the day begins and ends with recitation of the slave creed and hard whipping of each dray slave, in turn, at the whipping post in the sty. All slaves to kneel to watch as others are whipped. Each whipping is followed by the slave licking the boots of the whipping overseer and thanking him for the punishment.

feeding is once per day from horse troughs in the sty area (this is a mixture of vegetable mush with dog biscuits softened with overseers'piss)

no provision is made for dray slaves to relieve themselves (eg piss) - in keeping with their status as animals they must piss and shit straight onto the ground whenever and wherever they are. Punishment will immediately follow and normally these slaves are expected to clean up (ie consume) their own excrement and lick up their piss from the ground at least once per day.
5 each day will include some forced exercise sessions. This is supervised by sadistic trainers with bull whips. The purpose is to improve the slaves' strength.

Randomly, dray slaves may be selected to be transferred to the galley (see slave routines 4).

the whip is the preferred tool of dray slave overseers and it is used regularly to keep these animals in check and also a means of punishment.
