. . . . . . . . .
They nervously walked into the hall, not knowing the surprise they were going to get.
. . . . . . . . . .
They walked into a huge room. It was decorated with beautiful curtains that were immense and also were decorated with the same symbols that were displayed at the entrance. In the middle of the room, seated in elegant thrones, was the counsel. Each one was a main power. A Mage, whose main power is to use all magic around him, allowing him to control elements, summon powerful creatures, even bending time and space. A Shape Shifter, whose power is to morph their bodies into different creatures, such as werewolves and weretigers. They can also shift into full animal forms giving them a good advantage when hiding. And a Dark Assassin, who has great skills in hand to hand combat, and inhuman skills with weapons. Their stealth is legendary across the land, but if the need to fight in plain sight arises, they are rarely beaten.
Besides the council, were some guards and also, standing right next them was Kyle. He looked so dashing in Dylan's eyes. He still had on the same clothes he was wearing for their fight. When Kyle saw Dylan entering the room, a big smile covered his face. That had to be a good sign.
Dylan and Ray just stood by the door not knowing what to do. They felt somehow intimidated.
"Am I even supposed to be here?" Ray whispered to Dylan
"I'm not sure; I thought I was going to enter alone. But apparently they must want to talk to you too!" Dylan whispered back.
"Please, come forward!" One member of the counsel said with a very powerful voice, which echoed throughout the room. He looked to be in his late 40's, but still very strong. He was wearing red clothes. As Dylan came closer he could clearly recognize him as Council Master Vince. He was one of the most powerful Mages to have ever of lived. Despite this, he barely used his power. Sitting on either side of him were Council Master Rick and Council Master Roark. Council Master Rick was the assassin and Council Master Roark was the shape shifter. Rick looked about 30'ish and had very pale skin. Roark on the other hand had a very big build and his skin was a bit darker than the other council masters.
"Young Mage Apprentice Dylan, today you were evaluated to see if you are worthy of receiving higher knowledge of your natural powers. Skill, Intelligence, Power, Magnitude, Cleverness, and Courage were all evaluated. After your test, the results are....... in your favor. Today you have officially been accepted as a Student to the Royal Academy of the Gifted."
Dylan's face easily echoed the shock that he was feeling inside.
"You seem to be surprised?" Council Master Vince said
"Well yeah! I didn't win the fight!" Dylan spoke sincerely, utter confusion easily portrayed in his voice.
"Ha. You have many things to learn, young student. Today's test has never been beaten. You were not supposed to win. That's why we always use a Master, or a mage who is as powerful as a Master. These are supposed to fight at your same level until the students limit, then they are to surpass the student and beat them. Weird I know, but I didn't make the rules. I just follow them."
By now Dylan fully realized that he had not failed, but actually had impressed the Council and had been accepted. At the same exact moment, Ray also realized the same thing and started celebrating.
"You did it bro, YOU DID IT!!!"
Ray gave Dylan a big hug and started jumping around.
"I'm so proud of you!!! I knew you could do this!!" Ray said after they had calmed down.
"I wouldn't have made it without you, thank you!!" whispered Dylan with a tear in his eye.
"I see the point got through. Now that you are accepted, have you chosen an assistant?" Master Vince asked.
"Yes Master, I chose my friend Ray as my assistant!!" Dylan exclaimed while grabbing Rays shoulder.
"Impossible!!!" shouted Master Vince.
This was not the answer Dylan was expecting.
"Come again....?" Dylan asked confused.
"It is decreed by law that a Magbei can't be another's assistant!" Master Vince said
"But Ray is not a Magical Being, Master."
"Yes, when the Locator came to our City, I was not pointed out. Even after standing in the Circle!!" Ray said.
"Well I see we need to train our Locator better. Kyle..." Master Rick said looking at Kyle who was standing very close.
"I can feel it perfectly Master. It's definitely a strong seal. Master Evan was very good at asking us to double check for him"
"That's the reason why you are so good of a fighter. To the point of being better than a mage in a hand to hand combat. Let's see what your true powers are. Kyle, would you be kind enough to remove the seal from him?"
"Of course Master!" Kyle said moving towards Dylan and Ray
He stopped right in front of Ray.
"Remember what you felt when you stepped into the circle?" he asked Ray
"Yeah, I remember as if every inch of my body was being scanned"
"Well, that's what technically happened. The only problem was that the seal you have seems to be able to hide from even the Circle of Choosing, which means....." Kyle stretched his last words and saw Dylan, expecting him to continue the phrase.
"It means it's a REALLY good seal!"
"Yup! Good one Dylan!!" Kyle said giving Dylan a small wink. Dylan found himself smiling at the gesture.
"Oki doki, so here is what's going to happen. I'm going to start removing the seal. That will tickle a bit and it will feel slightly weird, but just go with it. When I completely remove it you may feel a little bit out of sorts, but it's only because you are not used to your powers. We don't even know what they will be. Just try not to panic or anything. You ready?"
"Yeah!" Was the only thing Ray could say. He was in shock. He was actually going to become a Magbei. Since that day that he was not chosen as one, he knew something was wrong. He wanted to be like Dylan. He needed to feel special. But he didn't hold any grudges; instead he decided to completely support him. Now he was going to receive powers.
Kyle closed his eyes and took a deep breathe. He quickly moved his hands down and pointed to Ray's feet. He created a blue glowing circle. He slowly raised his hands and the circle started rising at the same speed as Kyle's hands.
"Is that a Circle of Choosing?" Ray asked.
"No, something very similar to it though" Dylan whispered. "It's a spell called The Finding. It's used specifically to find Seals; very few mages can perform it. He is going to scan your whole body to find the seal. Then he'll remove it."
Abruptly Kyle hushed them. He really needed his concentration to perform this spell correctly. He had done it a couple of times but still, he didn't want to take any chances.
By now the circle had already scanned most of Ray's body. It was almost to his chest. The second the circle was at the same level as Ray's heart, it stopped and change color into a very light green.
Kyle smiled a bit and said: "Found you!! The person who placed this seal did it really well. He placed it in one of the magic points that's VERY close to your heart. And I mean it when I say very!!"
Ray, who was still in shock managed to ask,
"Magic point and my heart, is that bad?"
Kyle laughed a little bit at Ray's nervousness.
"No, don't worry at all. I was just making a point of how good he placed the seal. Now, I'm going to remove it. Again, just relax. This might feel just a tiny bit weird."
Kyle moved his hands in front of Ray's chest and created a different circle. This one stuck really close to the skin. It literally made a temporary tattoo of the spell on Ray's chest. Now Kyle proceeded to reach to this circle and once he touched it, the circle started to glow and all the inside of the circle glowed with a blue light. This allowed Kyle to insert his hand in Ray's body.
"Dylan??" Ray asked in shock
"Yes Ray?" he answered in the same tone.
"Is his hand inside me?"
"It seems so!" Dylan answered still confused
Kyle couldn't help but laugh at their conversation.
"I have to take the seal out somehow, don't I?? Well here it is. Get ready, once I remove it, your powers will be revealed"
Slowly he started to withdraw his hand from Ray's chest.
"I feel it!!"
When Kyle took his hand out he immediately turned away from Dylan's and Ray's view, and was holding something between his hands.
Ray had his eyes wide open and was looking from one part of the room to the other. He seemed to be in a state of pure wonder.
"Are you ok? How do you feel?" Dylan asked Ray.
"Why are you talking so slow? Why am I talking so slow?" answered Ray confused.
Everything in Ray's perception was in slow motion.
"Whaaaaaat dooooo yooouuuu meeaaaaan slooooow? Weeee areeeee taaaalkiiiiing nooooormaaaaallyyy!" That's how Ray heard everything. Even other people's movements, everything was in slow motion. He could see outside the window a small bird flying. And he could clearly see the little bird's movements. He then realized he was watching a bird that was meters away and he saw it clearly.
Suddenly one of the Masters of the council stood up. It was Master Rick the assassin.
"Interesting!!!" His voice was creepy, low and a little bit weary. "He is an assassin, which would explain why he is so good at fighting. What he is doing right now is called Focused Vision. His brain is working faster than normal. That's why he feels everything so slow."
He stepped down from his position and walked towards Ray.
"Look at me! I need you to relax and take deep breaths. Try to normalize your brain functions." He spoke almost in a whisper.
Ray did exactly that and after a few seconds, which felt like minutes to Ray, he opened his eyes.
"Yaaaay, everything is back to normal!!"
"You, my young student, are a genius. I think that's the reason someone tried to seal you. Only expert assassins can achieve a Focused Vision. With the correct training you will grow rapidly."
Master Rick then turned around and gave a small nod to Master Vince who also nodded, like some sort of silence agreement.
"Let me see the seal please Kyle." Master Vince said.
Kyle nodded and raised his hands. He had a small crystal ball and inside it there was a small centipede. It started floating and headed in the direction of the Council.
"Very interesting indeed." Master Vince said. "In front of us we have a Shadow Mage, which we haven't seen in a couple of ages, and an Assassin, who because of his advance level of early powers, was sealed."
"A Shadow Mage? Did he just call me a shadow mage?" Dylan asked himself. He couldn't think any further because Master Vince continued talking.
"This is what the council has decided. Ray will temporarily become Dylan's assistant, until he is trained in his magical abilities. Both new students will be sent to Student Camp, where the shadow mage will train with Kyle and the new Assassin Ray will train with Tyler. You have 2 weeks to train and then will return to us and show us your progress. You are dismissed!!" He said these last words with such power, there was no doubt we would have any other choice in the matter.
"Oki doki, let's go then!" Kyle said looking at Dylan with a smile in his face. Dylan could feel those beautiful green eyes gazing right in to his soul. He hoped Kyle liked what he saw. This is going to be a very interesting couple of weeks. Kyle moved his hand and grabbed Dylan's hand. Dylan could feel his face turning a bit red. Kyle's skin was very pleasant to touch. Not rough, and not smooth like a girl's. But they were firm hands. He then noticed he did the same to Ray.
"OHHH he's teleporting us!!" thought Dylan.
He moved just a bit forward so he could see Ray, and made a small gesture of breathing in deeply. Ray understood it perfectly and quickly took a deep breathe. Teleportation is very different from normal ports. They can be a great deal rougher.
Very quickly they were engulfed in a bright light, and just like that they disappeared.
. . . . . .
Once everything became clear, they were not in the Council Hall anymore. They were standing in soft grass. Dylan looked up and a beautiful purple sky above them. Beautiful clouds decorated the beautiful scenery of mountains and huge weird looking trees. The trees were thin and curved, some even creating curly figures. They resembled Willow Trees because of their hanging leafs.
"Have there always been so many colors in life?" Ray asked looking up to the sky and watching his surroundings.
"2 Things." Said Kyle, raising his hand and holding two fingers in the air. "One, Assassin see the world differently to everyday humans and Magbei, apparently they receive more receptors in the eyes, making it possible to even see in the dark. You can even see ultraviolet colors. And 2, this place is very special that's why it's very different from the everyday things back home. To keep it short this is a space between two parallel universes. Very few Magbei know about this place, and it's a secret passed on from the council to very few people. So you are very lucky to see this."
"So what are we going to do here? I barely remember what happened after you unsealed me." Ray said still mesmerized by the place.
"We are going to train. I'm training Dylan and my brother, Tyler, will train you!"
"Is he a good assassin?" Dylan asked.
"One of the best!! He may also be considered a genius like your friend here" Kyle said pointing to Ray.
Right at that moment, a very large boom sound came from the sky. Like a cannon being fired.
A great beam of light came down from the sky and connected with the ground. The ground trembled at this impact.
Slowly the light faded and there was a man standing there. He looked very much like his brother; the only big differences were that he seemed a little bit shorter. As he walked closer, Dylan could see that his eyes were a very bright blue.
"Well hello there!" Tyler said "It's great to finally meet the rumored Genius and the newly accepted mage. Congratulations to both of you." He shook hands with both Dylan and Ray.
"Soooooo....Who's mine??" Tyler asked clapping his hands in excitement.
"I'm sorry?" Ray asked confused.
"I mean who is the new assassin. The Council just told me that there was an assassin; they didn't tell me who was who! So who's mine?" he said again with a huge grin. Dylan noticed that Kyle was smiling at his brother's acts.
"Please forgive my brother, though a genius he's still quite an idiot and a jerk"
"Hey, I'm only having some fun. Sour patch!!" Tyler said sticking his tongue out towards Kyle.
"Whatever!! Ray here is the assassin. Master Rick specifically named you for this task. For what I've heard he is already an awesome fighter, so don't go soft on him" Kyle said grinning and grabbing Ray and practically handed him to his brother.
"Never intended on doing such thing. Where's the fun in that? Now let's go! We have lots of training to do." Tyler placed an arm around Ray's shoulder and started walking away from the other two. Ray looked back with a really worried look on his face.
Dylan couldn't help but feel worried for his best friend. He placed himself in Ray's shoes. There he was ready to face the council's decision of not accepting his best friend to this important academy. All of a sudden he is accepted but not only that, it turns out he is sealed and has extremely strong powers. Now he is in a weird place with new powers and being dragged away from his best friend by someone who seemed to have lost his mind.
"Poor Ray!" Dylan thought.
Dylan didn't even noticed they had started to walk too until Kyle spoke.
"He'll be alright."
"Huh?"
"Your friend. Ray. He'll be fine. My brother may seem slightly crazy, but it's just because he has only just met you . He is a bit nervous about meeting new people. He isn't always that much of a jerk. You'll see, they will get along just fine"
"Ok I feel a little better now!! Sorry, was I being too quiet?"
"Yeah, kind off. Besides I can sort of feel other people's emotions. Not precise at all, but I feel it. It's hard to explain" Kyle said rubbing the back of his head with his hand.
"Cool. So whi is older, you or your brother?"
"Since we are fraternal twins we are technically the same ge, although luckily I was born first. I'm really glad that happened, because if not, nobody would be able to shut him up. He's always competing against me. Saying: 'I'm the best, there is no way you can defeat me'. Now imaging adding: 'I was born first' to all of our competitions. I would never hear the end of it." Kyle smiled, imagining the petty fights with his brother.
"So, who is stronger?"
"None of us are completely equal when it's about fighting. We always end up in a draw, or both collapsing from exhaustion hahaha"
"Interesting, so that means that, if both of you are fighting side-by-side, it will equal one hell of a fight. I wouldn't like to fight against you two. Haha"
"Yeah there are times were we understand each other perfectly in a fight, but other times we only get in each other's way. It's a twin thing" Kyle said smiling. Dylan was mesmerized by his smile. It was perfect.
"That's so cool! How many other surprises do you have for me?" Dylan asked with a genuine smile. He really liked this guy.
"A few! You'll find out that I'm a pretty good teacher too. I'm patient and will always encourage you a great deal. I'll teach you the best ways to defend and attack every different Magbei. How to fight an assassin, how to defend against a shape shifter. Some of them are really tough!"
"Really?"
Dylan found himself lost in Kyle. He was paying attention to what he was saying, but he was also taking in all that he could of Kyle's complexion. His hair and how his mouth moved. He even noticed that his eyes had a tinge of gold to them.
"Yeah, I'm sure you have fought against one! What's tricky about them are their different species. Some are very agile and defensive and some are more in to brute force and attack aggressively"
"I've never fought against a shape shifter. I think Ray counts as an assassin so I have fought against them. But I've never fought a shape shifter. "
"Why not?" Kyle asked curiously.
"Well I decided that I wanted to train away from all other Magical Beings. If I entered the academy I wanted it to be because I was good enough to win against any Magbei without analyzing one beforehand. I hope it makes some sense" Dylan said laughing a bit at the end, realizing he must sound crazy.
"No, no, it does. It makes perfect sense. You really are a very interesting person Dylan. I'm glad that we are going to have this experience to get to know each other."
Dylan blushed after hearing that.
Smiling he answered: "I'm glad too!"
Dylan, realizing how silly he must be behaving, tried to change subject.
"Sooo, where are we going? It seems we have been walking for a while."
"We are almost at camp. It's not really far away from where Ray is with Tyler. Look over there. There it is!" Kyle said raising his hand and pointing to a small camp that was not very far away.
"OHH it looks so cool!!"
It was actually very simple. A campfire was placed in the middle of the camp. A long wooden table with equally wide stools. What really caught Dylan's eyes were the only two tents. They were fairly big and Dylan thought that maybe 4 people could fit in each.
"Are we going to do smores at night by the campfire??" Dylan said, imitating a small child on his first day of camping.
Kyle laughed at this.
"Yes, but we are definitely not singing around the fire." Kyle answered smiling.
"Fair enough!!" Dylan said giving Kyle a small push.
"Hey, there's been something I've wanted to ask you since Master Vince explained to me about the test" Dylan said, changing subjects.
"Fire away!"
"Were you holding back while fighting against me?" Dylan asked.
"No, it's not like we are playing with you, if that's what you mean!" Kyle laughed a bit at the idea.
"What happens is that the field in which we fought has a spell. The spell only affects the more powerful individual. It limits their powers and matches them to their opponent. It left my powers just a bit higher than yours."
"Ohhhh, so every time that I did something better than you did, you received some your powers back?"
"Exactly!!"
"So, if what I experienced was a limited you, what are your real powers??"
"Hahaha, my powers are at Master level."
Dylan's jaw flung open, and took a second to go back to normal.
"But, why don't they call you Master Kyle. By the way, that sounds really cool. Master Kyle!!"
Kyle just smiled and turned a bit red. It was his time to blush.
"Well, it's because, both me and my brother, are like the rebels of the magic community. We would have received the title long time ago, but, inside, we are just kids. We want to have some fun. Eventually we will calm down enough to receive the titles, but not today, not tomorrow, definitely not next week, and probably not anytime soon"
"Hahaha, I understand."
By now they were already in the camp. So Dylan decided to check out the tents. They were very big and inside they had several commodities. On the central column, several bowls were set up so water could be placed there. There were a couple of beds, and a curtain was placed around where the bathtub was.
Dylan stepped outside and found Kyle sitting on one of the logs near the fire. He decided to go sit down next to him.
"Hey, what are you thinking about?" Dylan asked.
"I'm deciding whether to give you your first surprise of training!"
Dylan heard the word surprise and immediately got curious.
"What is it??"
"Hahaha it won't be a toy, although we could play with it"
"Now I'm really curious, please give me the surprise!!! Pretty please???!!!?" Dylan even gave Kyle puppy eyes.
"Hahaha ok, you win." Kyle reached for his back pocket and took out a small notepad.
"What are you going to do?" Dylan asked curious.
"I'm sending a letter to see if he can come?"
"'He'?? What does he mean by 'he'?" Dylan thought. He tried to see what Kyle was writing, but he wouldn't let him.
When Kyle finished writing the letter, he ripped the page off and blew it out in to the wind. Immediately the paper caught on fire and it disintegrated into the wind.
"Trans-dimensional mail!!" Kyle said, obviously extremely proud.
Almost immediately another note appeared the same way the other was gone. Only this one was created by the camp fire.
Kyle took it and read it. A smile appeared on his face.
"What???" Dylan couldn't take so much suspense.
"He's coming!!!"
"Who???" At the same time Dylan asked the question, a similar ray of light that brought Tyler into the camp appeared out of nowhere with the same powerful noise. It landed very near from where they were seated.
"You are going to meet and probably fight your very first shape shifter!!"
Dylan got excited and nervous at the same time.
When the light faded away he could see the shape shifter. He was tall, maybe 5, 11. Very handsome. Short black hair, brown eyes, tanned skin. He was wearing a sleeveless shirt which showed his much defined biceps.
He walked to where they were. Kyle stood up and made the introductions.
"Dylan, this is my friend Andrew. Andrew this is Dylan"
"Hi, Andrew. Nice to meet you!" Dylan said, slightly nervously.
"Please, call me Andy. Kyle told me you've never met or fought a shape shifter. I'm here to change both of those problems. We are sure going to have some fun!!"
