A reminder that this is a work of fiction...
About 20 minutes later, the phone rang; it was Paul. "There has been a change in plans. All of you come on up to the house." He hung up without saying another word.
Candy and Carlos were in after glow and it took just a few minutes for us all to dress and walk to Charlie's.
Charlie said that he had had a call a few minutes before, that another was coming in and that we all would find it interesting. We were told to sit. In the room were Paul, Dave, Charlie, Mike, June, her parents, Tran, Candy, Carlos and Carl. The phone did ring and Charlie answered it.
"Yes, I'm holding." And, after just a minute, In a very familiar and informal manner, Charlie continued. "Good Evening, Mr. President and thank you; we did have a good holiday." Do you mind if I put you on speaker phone?" The answer must have been yes. I think that all of us non-military people were in shock. I doubt that any of us knew that Charlie and the president were even acquainted.
"Charlie, you are just about my oldest friend. Call me by my name."
"Yes, sir. but you are my Commander In Chief." Charlie laughed.
"I hope that I soon shall be. Happy Thanksgiving to you all. My aide spoke briefly to Charlie a few moments ago." The president then asked if Mike was there and Mike answered yes in a barely audible whisper. For once he was at a loss for words. "I called to thank you, Michael, for your great service. Michael, you have no idea how many lives your solving of that weird code saved. Bill, as his dad, you should be very proud." My mouth hung open. "Charlie has told me much about you Bill and I look forward to meeting you soon. He has shared with me some things about your relationship. You have to know that both you and Michael received a very intensive security check."
I stammered, "Thank you sir, I think." Several people, including the president laughed softly.
"Also joining us on line now is the Commandant of the Marine Corps and he has some questions to ask." There was a distinctive click.
The Commandant was brief, professional. "Happy Thanksgiving to you all. The president tells me we are on speaker phone. June, I know you and Dave did as I asked; you questioned Mike thoroughly and I know you evaluated him. Did you find anything that would preclude our asking Micheal to go deeper into the project?"
June answered, "Nothing sir. I can assure you and the president that Mike can be trusted to do any task that you ask of him." You could hear a sigh of relief from the Commandant. he asked no other questions and June gave no other information.
It was the president again. "Michael, in order for you to go deeper into this work, you need to be a member of the Corps. This is for security reasons as you can well understand. We have another urgent situation developing and we desperately need you. As Commander In Chief, I have the authority to offer and to appoint you as a Lieutenant. It can be on a permanent or temporary basis as you wish. I can not stress to you enough the value of the service that we are asking you to perform. Will you accept a commission."
Immediately, Michael answered, "Yes, Mr. President; I am willing to do what ever you ask."
"No, no! It's too risky Mike. Please think about it, please!" I whispered. I guess the fear, the stress came out in my voice. Immediately the commandant began to assure me that Michael was too valuable an asset to be placed in any dangerous situation. I resented his use of the word asset. Mike was my son, or I thought of him as such and I loved him so.
Charlie took my hand and squeezed it. "The Corps will take good care of him, will they not, General?" he asked. I sat there there shivering.
The commandant laughed out loud. You know better than to ask me that, Charles. Right now, he's needed more than I am."
The president interrupted, "Let's leave the Corps private humor till later. Perhaps I'm on a roll here.
Charlie, I need you. I know you refused to come back to work when I asked before, but will you consider again being my security adviser till at least June? I know it's a nasty trick to ask you in front of your friends and fellow officers. But, I am a politician and I'll use every bit of leverage I have. How can you refuse when Michael has said yes?" He chuckled.
"You test our friendship, sir." Charlie smiled and you could almost hear it in his voice. "Yes, I'll do as you ask."
"An early Christmas present for me and for the country. Thanks my friend, thanks." the president responded. He continued by saying that a chopper had already departed Point Judith in Rhode Island and that the commandant assured him that it would be at Charlie's in under a half hour. It would take Michael and Paul back to the base and that from there Paul would fly the two of them to Quantico. This would return an experimental plane to Virginia and also provide the fastest means of transportation. The president then indicated that Charlie would fly to Washington with Dave and June on Monday after doing something in Cambridge. Paul was to stay with Mike for several days or until Mike felt comfortable in his new position. With Charlie again living in Washington, the Commandant felt that Mike and Paul should occupy quarters at 8th and I and he made that clear.
I was now standing at the back of the living room. felt so alone, almost abandoned. Tran came to me. "I shall not leave you alone." He hugged me.
The president spoke again, "Bill, there is private reception and dinner here at the White House next Friday. It will be my pleasure then to honor Michael and Charlie. The Marine Corps chorus and band will be featured and it's the inauguration of the Christmas season in the White House. I would like it if you would join us. It's black tie."
I started to hesitate. Charlie spoke up. "He'll be honored to join us, sir."
"Thank you all and now I must get back to work. I look forward to seeing most of you in Washington." With that, we heard the line disconnect. There was absolute silence.
Michael asked out loud, as the reality of the situation sunk in, "What about my work at Harvard?" Charlie told him that the University president had already been contacted by the White House and that nothing was to stand in Mike's way. I asked about transportation and clothing. Obviously, I was upset to the point that I was being inane. These people had the power and the resources to make anything happen. Charlie looked at Big and and Little. Carl, go and get Mike's things together. Carlos, take Candy home. You have 10 minutes. Tran, I'll need you in Washington. Do what you have to do here and get Bill ready to join us next Thursday. Carl, you and Carlos will take over the school till I can release Tran. June was holding Mike's hands and her parents were watching with smiles on their faces. Charlie suggested that they drive back to Cambridge and spend the night at his place there. June gave Mike a big kiss which seemed to surprise and please him. Saying good night to June, Tran and his sister, and after they left to get their things, Charlie suggested that Mike and I might like to be alone in his study. He asked Dave to go up stairs with Paul and that they get their things together.
Mike hugged me tight. He kissed me on my lips and one hand caressed my crotch. I was startled. "I'm going to miss you Dad. I've wanted you for the last 3 days.
He quickly unzipped my fly, dropped to his knees and took me into his mouth. I did not respond immediately.
"I want to talk to you!" I moaned.
"Later, we haven't much time for the important things." He laughed softly. I rose to the occasion and began sliding in and out of his hungry mouth. If Mike was doing this to reassure me, or calm me down, or just make me feel good I did not know. What I did know is that it felt damn good. I dropped to the floor and pulled his cock out of his pants and began to kiss and lick it. I was going to give him as as good as he was giving me. We both knew that we had little time and hurried to climax. It was intense, fast and the strokes and tongue work matched the intensity of the occasion. We must have sounded like to pigs in rut. The distant sound of chopper blades pushed us on and we had a mutual orgasm. It seemed like just seconds before there was a soft knock and I heard the door open. I twisted my body so that Mike and I were face to face. Our tongues joined in a quiet dance.
"Please Mike, be careful." I whispered as best I could.
"I'll do that. Just know that I love you and I'll see you next week." He stood, zipped, turned, smiled at Charlie and thanked him for the few moments he had given us. Charlie gave him a huge bear hug and said something about being welcomed to the corps.
Charlie then went on, "Mike, I'll watch over your dad here. He's my best friend." Mike turned to Charlie and kissed him too. "MMMMMmm, that tastes good!" Charlie said softly so that just Mike and I could hear him. Paul and Carl came in; Paul had a duffel bag of Mike's things. You packed too much. Charlie took the bag, emptied it and sorted and repacked it quickly leaving half of the stuff on the floor. He laughed. "Bill bring whatever else you need later.
"Let's go!" Paul commanded. There was a new tone in his voice; he was the man in charge. I grabbed Mike again and Paul quickly hugged the two of us and then separated us. "No Time."
Charlie came to me and put his arms around me. "I'll spend the night with you."
We followed the two of them outside and stood watching till the chopper was out of sight. "This is the beginning of the end." I said softly to Charlie.
He answered, "I know its a cliche Buddy, but every ending is also a new beginning." This was a Thanksgiving that we would all remember.
