'A Second Chance' Chapter 5

Disclaimer: The usual stuff applies. This is a work of fiction, the product of my over active imagination. I am not implying anything about the sexuality of the members of the two bands. If you are underage, please leave or at least make sure you don't get caught. If you are homophobic, what are you even doing on here?!

I hope everyone had fun on New Year's Eve. It's the new Millenium! Thanx again to all the cool people who e-mailed me. It's so great to hear that you like my story. This chapter will finally have all the members of N*SYNC in it. Enjoy! J

Previously (Lance and Justin are talking on the phone)

"I just talked to management. They want us to have a New Year's eve party with the Backstreet Boys!" Lance announced. Justin gasped. A party...with the Backstreet Boys? With Nick? He dropped the phone.

"Justin? Hello? What happened? Are you still there?" Lance asked. With shaking hands, Justin picked up the phone.

"I'm ok. Just dropped the phone. The party thing sounds like a good idea. Listen, Lance, I'm gonna be over in like half an hour or so. I got something to tell you guys. Until then, can you please not look at any newspapers? Tell the others, too. See you." Justin hung up without waiting for Lance's reaction and went upstairs to change.

Lance was still thinking about Justin's odd request when Chris burst into the room.

"Can't you knock? It's still early in the morning. I could've been naked for all you know!" Lance complained.

"Right now I really wouldn't care. Look at this." Chris held up a newspaper. Lance sighed as he read the headline. 'Pop twosome Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears split up'. So that's what Justin meant, Lance thought to himself.

"Chris, calm down. I just talked to Justin on the phone. He's on his way over here. He'll explain everything." Lance said.

"He better." Chris crumbled as he left the room.

Exactly half an hour later, Justin rang the doorbell at JC's house. Chris opened the door. From the look on his bandmates face, Justin knew that Lance hadn't stopped him in time. Chris was about to say something, but Justin held his hands up in defense.

"I know what you are going to say. I'll explain when we are all together. Where is everyone?" Justin asked.

"JC is in his room, fuming because he's supposed to be your best friend and didn't know about this. Joey is still asleep, and Lance is pacing in his room, trying to figure out what to do."

"Ok, let's get them all. I wanna get this over with." Justin said and made his way to JC's room.

Just a few minutes later, all the members of N*SYNC were sitting in JC's room. All of them were more or less angry with Justin, except for Joey who was not completely awake yet and was fighting with his hangover.

"Ok. I know you all hate me right now, but this isn't the easiest thing to say, so please let me finish before you start to yell at me, k?" Justin sighed. Even though this was the third time he was telling someone, it wasn't getting any easier. These were the people he spent most of his time with, he needed them to accept him.

"I broke up with Britney because I am gay. I told her yesterday after something that happened at the MTV studio finally got me to admit to myself that I'm gay." He exhaled slowly and looked around the room. Everyone was staring at him, even Joey seemed to have finally woken up.

"You are what?" JC was the first one to regain his composure, Justin took that as a good sign until JC continued talking.

"Who did this to you?" JC asked with disgust in his voice.

"Slow down JC." Lance jumped in. "That's not something someone can do to you. It's just the way he is. It's ok, Justin. I'll always be there for you." Lance said reassuringly. Justin smile weakly to show his appreciation. Then he turned back to JC who still had a look of disgust and disbelief on his face.

"Josh, I know that this is a bit sudden and that you need some time..."Justin tried to console his friend, but was cut off.

"You mean all these times you asked me to sleep in your bed with you because you had a bad dream, you were gay? I shared a bed with a fag?" JC asked, his anger barely contained.

"I don't have feelings for you, Josh. You are my best friend. Please try to understand. I'd hate to lose you over something I have no control over." Justin pleaded.

"Well, this whole thing is cool with me. I'm gonna go back to sleep now. Call me when we have to get ready." Joey announced and left the room.

"What about you, Chris?" Justin asked in a small voice.

"I don't know what to say. I didn't expect this at all. Don't worry though. It's ok with me." Chris said. Justin felt a little better. The only person who was having hard time dealing was JC.

"Just, don't get me wrong. I don't wanna hurt you. But I never had anything to do with homosexuality. I don't know what to think about all of this. I always assumed it's a personal choice, but now I realize that no one would voluntarily subject themselves to all this discrimination. Give me some time, ok?" JC said. Justin breathed a sigh of relief and ran over to hug his friend.

"Thank you so much for understanding!" Justin whispered overjoyed.

"Just out of curiosity, what was that thing that happened that convinced you were gay?" Lance asked.

"Um, well, Nick Carter and I kind of...kissed. But then I ran off, and I feel so bad now." All the guys groaned. Justin smiled sheepishly and put on a pout.

"Thanx so much for understanding." Justin said.

"Anytime." Lance replied.

"Nick, where is your head today? You've never lost a game of Nintendo to me." Brian asked, concerned.

"Is it because of the New Year party?" He looked over at Nick, who nodded furiously, not trusting his voice. Brian reached over and squeezed his hand.

"Aww, poor baby. It won't be so bad. All of us will be there. And if you find a second alone with him just tell him that you're sorry for what happened if it made him feel uncomfortable. If he seems ok with it, maybe you can become friends and take it from there." Brian suggested. Nick nodded again.

"But what if he hates me though?" he asked, holding back the tears.

"You really love him, don't you?" Brian sighed. There were no words to console his friend. What could he say? He didn't know what Justin felt and why he had reacted to the kiss the way had. All he could to was hope that the party would give Justin and Nick a chance to become comfortable around each other and talk about the kiss and what it meant. Brian sincerely hoped that this would have a happy ending for his friend.

There's Chapter five for you. Thanx to all the people who e-mailed me with the name of Nick's sister. I thought I was gonna get to the party this chapter, but then I got so into writing Justin's coming out scene. I wanted it to be just perfect. The next chapter will get a little more interesting, I promise. Anyway, take care.
