Chapter 2 "New Beginnings" "Ssssssss..." I draw in a quick breath through my teeth and step out from a warm shower into the icy cold bathroom. Quickly I throw my hair up in a towel and wrap another around my shivering body. A fine mist has covered the mirror so that I can only see a blurred blob of myself when I turn to look. I decide to skip the once over and just get into some dry clothes before I freeze to death. Just as I get my jeans to my knees the phone rings and I have to hobble over to it. "He...hello?" I stutter as I trip over my own legs. "Hey Lisa, it's Marissa. Todd wants to know if you can come in to work in like an hour or so. Erick got sick and yacked all over the place so we sent him home and now it's just me." "Ummm..." I zip up my pants finally. "Sure I guess so. Hey, how long are you gonna be there?" "Dude, I have to close tonight. I'll be here fucking forever and a day." "Nice...tell Todd I'll be there in fifteen minutes." "Quality. See ya then." She hangs up the phone.

(From Marissa's point of view)

'Am I gay? I must be something like that. I don't think I've ever liked another girl this way before but there's just something about her that I just can't shake. Maybe it's...'

"Hey Riss, could you go check the bathrooms. I don't know if you noticed or not, but about twelve eight year olds just walked out of there giggling like madd." Lisa says.

"No problem. Be back in a flash." I joke as I walk to the bathroom. 'I love it when she calls me Riss. A pet name....hmmm I think she just might like me. She seems so straight though. Shit, who am I kidding, I seem straight!' I think to myself.

My jaw hits the floor when I walk in. Rose petals covering the sink. 'Wait a second, I didn't see any eight year olds walk out, I've been watching this place the whole time. Man I'm an idiot.' I look up and there's a note taped to the mirror on a drink napkin. Cute.

"Riss,

Just thought you needed a little pick me up.

Love,

The Other Hostess"

I look up in the mirror and there she is right behind me. And she's smiling.

"Did you do this?" I say and then flinch at how stupid that was. Of course she did it. She's grinning from ear to ear and there's flower petals in her hand. Duh.

"Nope, not I." She answers and then sniffs the petals. "Whoever did it though, man they must be head over heels for you. What do you think?"

"I think it was totally sweet of her, but I wonder just when she did this."

"When I....She went to the bathroom five minutes ago, duh. She must have noticed that we weren't very busy at all and took it upon herself to leave you a little message."

"Nice slip up ya nerd..." I say just as I throw my arms around her neck and kiss her. I've never kissed a girl before and the feeling of it sends little electric shocks dancing through my body. Her lips press against mine in the softest way and when I feel her tongue lightly brush my lips I gladly open them and let it in. It's the most passionate kiss I've ever experienced. I don't ever want it to end but just as the thought crosses my mind I hear footsteps coming towards the bathroom. She must have heard it too because she breaks away quickly and starts cleaning up the petals, making small talk to whole time. Two older women walk in and smile at us, not even taking a second look at the flower covered sink. When they come out of their stalls they go and wash their hands, again not paying attention to anything out of the ordinary. Then they both look at each other, look at us, then back to each other. One winks and the other just smiles.

"Young lovers, isn't it sweet." The blonde haired one says as she grabs the brunette's hand and kisses her on the cheek. They walk out of the bathroom as if nothing happened.

Lisa and I both look at each other for a moment and then burst out laughing at the sheer oddity of the whole situation.

"Hey...haha...I'm gonna run out front and get my purse...haha." I say and trip out of the room.

(From my {Lisa's} point of view) Marissa trots out of the bathroom and leaves me there with my thoughts. I can't believe I just did this. It has to be the single bravest thing I've ever done. Marissa walks back in with her purse and begins to put all the rose petals in it. She finishes and just stands there looking at the now empty counter. I walk up behind her and put my hands on her shoulders. "What's up babe?" I ask. "I guess....well this is all so new and it's coming at me in such a rush my head is spinning. I've never felt this way towards another girl before and I'm not quite sure what to do with myself. I just....Oh I dunno..." And with that she begins to cry softly. I turn her around and hug her close, wanting only for her tears to melt away. "Shhhhh....Hey hey, it's ok. Dry those eyes kiddo." I comfort her as I run my hand through her short, light brown hair. She giggles around her tears. "Kiddo?" Looks me in the eyes and smiles a bit. "Who you calling kiddo? I'm older than you shithead, remember." "Yea, but your still kiddo to me." I joke and with that I stretch my neck up and kiss her forehead. Not an easy task as I am shorter than her by at least an inch. We stand like that for a while and realize we're at work. Maybe we should do something of the sort. I grab her hand, much like the older ladies earlier did, and we walk out of the bathroom. Appearances aren't a problem as we walk out, half the people that work here are gay anyway. There isn't a soul in the lobby to seat, so I take a chair and she plops down on my lap, resting the back of her head on my shoulder. I breathe in her perfumed aroma deeply and sigh. Every so often my lips brush against some part of her face and it's her turn to sigh. Her hair tickles my cheek and when I giggle she pushes it in my face more, just to spite me. In any other job we would have been frowned upon, but here everyone just ooo's and ahhh's at how *cute* or *adorible* we look. One of my favorite servers, Heidi, walks up to the hostess stand with a stack of menu's. "See, I told you so." She says and winks at me. When she walks away Riss just looks at me with a puzzled expression. "Ever since I've been working here...that's what...five six months...I've bugged her constantly to find out anything and everything about you for me. She just likes to rub in the fact that she's always right." I say. Marissa just shrugs her shoulders and settles back down on my lap. I wrap my arms around her and entwine my fingers in hers. We're like that for the next hour or so until another couple comes in. To be continued...
