Last time on Psych....
Lassiter walked out of the building in a haze. Nothing felt right. The world kept tilting making him unable to walk well. He was sure it was partly from the toxic smoke... but also a part of him was breaking because he was about to lose someone he had just discovered. The cable Gus had tied around the speaker snapped and the door swung shut as Lassiter, Adam, and Gus heard a yell of pain from the inside. Shawn. Lassiter sat down on the Blueberry and stared at nothing as the buildings upper floors lit and eventually caved in... crushing Lassiter's hope, heart and the man Lassiter had come to love.

INTERLUDE -
Lassiter pulled Gus and Adam to the Blueberry and had Gus race to the front of the building, firetrucks had began to arrive on the scene. Juliet was cuffing the two men and looked at Lassiter. "Where's Shawn?" She said hesitantly. Lassiter couldn't say anything but shook his head and looked away. Juliet let out a gasp and said "H-h-he'll be okay, Carlton." Lassiter told the trucks to go around back and to try to save Shawn, who was the only person left in the building. Juliet ran over to Lassiter and pulled him in for a hug. "He told you." She said and began to cry into the Head Detective's chest. Lassiter looked at Juliet and said with some surprise, "You knew?" "Yes... we talked a while ago and now..." She couldn't finish the sentence and Carlton felt like a knife had just been slammed into him. Spencer cared for me for a while and I didn't know? His heart hurt and he kept his expression stoney and neutral. Not because he felt nothing but because he would fall apart if he let any emotion out.
Shawn felt the heat build in the room quickly. He saw that the speaker was completely surrounded by flames and he moved quickly to pick up the door he had take off it's hinges. He placed it back into it's hinges and waited a moment. Then he heard the sound, smiling as he searched the room quickly. He found a fire extinguisher in a glass case in a dark corner of the room, throughout the building Shawn heard the roar and crackle of wood splintering. He also heard a soft whine that was quickly rising in pitch. Shawn hoped he was right about his instinct. The sound rose in octave until Shawn had to put his hands over his ears to not be deafened or driven mad by the shrill piercing shriek. He heard pop and quickly moved to the corner furthest from the door but on the same side of the room. He began to wonder if he was going to - BLAM The sound of a large crack and explosion followed by the door being blown off it's hinges made Shawn's heart stutter. He quickly lowered his hands and grabbed the Fire extinguisher and made for the door.
The speaker had exploded, the heat causing the center of the speakers, where volitaile materials were housed, to excite and explode, much like a battery exposed to too much heat. Shawn saw tht the speaker had split nearly in two and the top half had been thrown against the exit. This made Shawn's heart drop, he could leave the room but his exit was now blocked. He climbed over the speaker quickly, burning his hands against the hot materials and turned to the fire. The brilliant light from the licking flames made his eyes ache and burn, he had only just regained his ability to see and was not enjoying the high intensity of the light cast by the flames. Shawn ran for the easy exit but was met with strong resistance. He pounded against the "pull" door... maybe Lassie can help me get this open! Shawn thought desperately. He screamed "LASSIE! GUS! ADAM!" He pounded the door and then used the extinguisher to get more force. The result was that the door shook with force but still would not budge. Shawn felt the heat of the flames lick against him and he screamed in pain as his hand brushed against hot metal. He turned and leveled the fire extinguisher at the flames and sprayed the base, making the flame retreat several yards with a short blast. Shawn took a step back and placed his weight on his right foot. Shifting his weight in a full circle, left foot, lift the right, lean forward, just as his dad had taught him, Shawn slammed his foot into the door three inches to the left of the lock. The door shook and flung open. Just as Shawn breathed a sigh of relief, he heard the building begin to fall. He raced out of the building and kept running, not sure how far the building and debris might fall. He made to the edge of the concrete where the roof ended over his head when he saw and felt small chucks fall on his head and shoulders. OW! Shawn stopped to rub his head which was throbbing from the hard pieces of, essentially stone.
That stop, Shawn would learn later, was a mistake. Seconds after he stopped a large piece of roof fell. It struck the Psychic, okay... fake psychic on the head. Shawn, who had began to move forward, fell, rolling away from the building, unconscious. The firetrucks rounded the corner and saw the man lying on the earth and the door to the building open, and the large piece of stone, covered in blood, next to the man. They quickly grabbed the man and put him on the truck speeding towards the entrance. They met an ambulance and handed Shawn over to the drivers saying what had happened and that the man, Shawn, had lost a lot of blood, needed oxygen to counteract the smoke and needed to be taken to the emergency room... NOW! The ambulance exited via a side road and turned on it's lights, racing for the hospital, calling in about the unconscious man they were bringing back for emergency treatment.
Lassiter was leaning against his car for support as Juliet O'Hara walked towards him. She had just loaded the two criminals into the back of a squad car. Her eyes were misty as she gently put her arms around Lassiter's. Lassiter would have normally flinched and moved away but, right now, he wanted human contact. "We can have a service tomorrow." Juliet's voice was just above a whisper and Carlton felt the emotions in her voice, making it quiver. Carlton opened his mouth to speak but his throat was dry and no sound would come out. Instead, Lassiter just nodded his head. Gus made his way to the two detectives and said, "Mr. Levine left his statement with two officers. Shawn had found out that Maroon 5's manager was smuggling drugs into the country whenever the band had one night tours in foreign countries. Apparently they were about to call you and Lassiter when the manager came to the hotel, which he had bugged, and took them. You know the rest." He sounded tired and upset. Lassiter couldn't blame him, it had been unbearable seeing Shawn so helpless. Lassiter cleared his throat and said, "I'll call Henry and..." His voice broke. "Uh... why not let me do that Detective Lassiter. I think it should be someone he knows." Carlton gave a nod and turned to climb into his car. Juliet followed him and said, "Carlton, are you going to be okay to drive?" Lassiter said, "Yes, O'Hara. I'll see you at the fun- tomorrow." He couldn't quite get the word out. Gus offered Juliet a ride and she accepted. Carlton then drove off.
Lassiter felt like he was on autopilot and didn't realize until he had stopped, that he had pulled up to the Psych office. He felt like he wasn't in control of his own body. He got out of the car and walked to the door, expecting it to be unlocked. It was. He walked inside and saw that the office had undergone some extensive cleaning. Dirty laundry no longer littered the floors and the office smelled clean. Lassiter made his way through the office and sat down at Shawn's desk. He looked at the bare desk. It had a picture of Shawn, Gus, Lassiter, Juliet, and the Chief from an office party from around Christmas. Lassiter had a little too much scotch and was actually smiling in the picture. Shawn was looking over at Lassiter with a genuine smile that Carlton hadn't noticed before. He cared about me for a while... and I never knew. The words ran endlessly through his mind. Lassiter opened some drawers in Shawn's desk and found some red vines and a pen that belonged to him. Why did Shawn take his pen? He thought about it and decided to ask O'Hara tomorrow. Lassiter found one drawer locked and managed to open it with a key taped to the bottom of the desk. Inside were a few photos of Shawn and Gus, Shawn and Juliet and an envelope. Lassiter opened the envelope and found pictures of Shawn with Lassiter. Only one of the pictures had Carlton smiling, and that was because Shawn was being escorted out of the police presinct by McNabb. There was one picture with Carlton holding Shawn against a wall. He studied the picture for a moment and saw that Shawn was staring at Lassiter with an intense look. Was it lust? Carlton thought so. It looks like Shawn wants to kiss me, no wonder he wanted to keep this. Lassiter thought. Just as Lassiter was about to close the drawer he found a small letter taped to the roof of the drawer. He removed it and saw it said, "To Lassie." Carlton was taken aback and opened the letter slowly.
"Dear Lassie, or should I say Carlton,
If you are reading this letter, then I am probably no longer with you, or you searched my office for some other reason... if that is the case, please stop reading now and wait until I am killed by some wild marmosets or get eaten by rabid bunnies, whichever comes first. First of all, if I am indeed no longer amongst the living, know that no psychic on the planet will be able to contact me from beyond the grave, they lie, all of them... even me. Second, if I didn't tell you while I was with you, I want you to know something. I am not sure when I realized this but I needed and wanted to let you know that I, Shawn Spencer, love you. I love your beautiful, icy blues and those slightly big ears. That sexy swagger and nice ass. I love the crap out of you Lassie! This isn't some lame... last ditch effort to make a joke Lassie. I truly care about you and if I didn't know how great you are at your job, I'd ask you to quit and stay with me, so that you would be safe. But that is 1. Totally selfish, 2. Not who you are, you're a cop through and through, and 3. The only person you put above yourself is... well everyone else. Oh Lassie, I wish we could have been together in the real world but apparently one of us couldn't seem to express what we meant to the other. The reason I never told you was because of your potential reaction of disgust or anger. I can deal with a lot Lassie, but you rejecting me for who I really am, that would have hurt worse than being trapped in a building and being burned alive. Anyway Lassie, now that you know my secret, I hope that you can at least treat me with some dignity at the funeral. (Whenever that happens) Please be careful... even though I am no longer with you, know that your friendship meant the world to me and that, I would still care if you were taken from the world before your time.
I love you Carlton Lassiter, with all my heart, Shawn Spencer"
Lassiter belt the tears hit the lapels of his jacket. Shawn, thought the detective heartbrokenly, you've managed to break my heart again. The head detective set the note down and looked at another photo of himself and the pseudo-psychic. The younger man had a huge smile on his face and had his hand around the detective's waist. Lassiter looked at himself, he was smiling in the photo. The one time we both were happy about the outcome of a case, he thought. Lassiter sunk down into Shawn's chair and put his head in his hands. He was barely holding it together and hoped that no one would come by the office and see him crying.
The funeral for Shawn was at noon, "When Shawn usually began to work in the office" Gus joked. Gus stood at the podium to deliver Shawn's eulogy. Lassiter, who stood off to the side, couldn't cry. It wasn't in his nature. But that did not stop his heart from breaking and his jaw from tightening at the reading of Shawn's eulogy. Gus had trouble reading the paper through misty eyes and shaky voice. Juliet hadn't stopped crying since she had been told about Shawn's death. Henry, like Lassiter, wore a stoney expression that gave away nothing... but when Gus gave Shawn's eulogy, Lassiter saw the man brush away tears. Lassiter couldn't even look at a photo of Shawn anymore and had resigned himself to a week off of work so that he could clear his mind. That week he had spent in his house, crying as he held his only pictures of Shawn. Lassiter felt broken and couldn't seem to fix himself.
The hospital had taken their John Doe out of the emergency wing and into the overnight area. The man was in and out of consciousness and could not seem to formulate words. None of the staff knew him and no one had come to take him home. The staff had asked around town to no avail. They finally decided to try looking for the man online but had no luck. With no identification, the nurses began to take shifts bathing and feeding the man. The female nurses seemed particularly fond of the man but until he regained steady consciousness, no one could help him find his family.
Three weeks later, the man had stablized and had hours of wakefullness. He did not seem to remember who he was. The doctor had come in and told him that it was retrograde amnesia. The doctor said that the man, who the nurses called "hazel-eyes." may never regain his memory. "But Doctor Shield, how did I get here in the first place?" The man asked, looking at the doctor's ID for his name. "You were brought in by an ambulance after there had been a fire downtown." Hazel-eyes looked perplexed. "I don't remember a fire..." His voice was troubled. He stared at the doctor's hands and saw the faint image of a wedding ring. "When did your wife finalize the divorce?" The doctor stared at the patient and said, "Monday... how did you...?" The man shrugged and said, "Can you tell the nurses not to try and show off their... clears throat assets. I am not sure thinks hard for a minute but I think I'm taken." The two men heard an audible groan from the hallway as a nurse, who apparently had been listening, walked away yelling to the station, "He's taken girls!" The doctor smiled and turned to leave. "Wait! Doctor... can you contact my family for me?" The man looked at him and said, "We have no ID for you. Do you know who your parents are?" Hazel-eyes looked sad and shook his head. No one wanted to come get me? I must not be a very good person.
Lassiter woke to a stinging pain in his shoulder. The room in which he was situated was white and he recognized it as a hospital. He saw a doctor come into the room. "Hello, I'm doctor Shield. I managed to get the bullet from your shoulder but the damage to the nerves was substantial and I want you to stay in the hospital for a few days while we run some tests on the extent of the damage." Lassiter rolled his eyes, at least I'm covered by my medical insurance. "Ok, doctor." "Oh... you have a visitor, a detective O'Hara?" Carlton sighed and said, "Send her in." O'Hara walked into the room quickly and said, "CARLTON! How could you get yourself shot! If McNabb hadn't been near your position..." Her voice trailed off. The man had been distracted the last week at work. Not that I can blame him, thought O'Hara. It had been hard knowing Shawn wouldn't be coming into the station and causing ruckus or helping the department solve cases. O'Hara thought to the incident at hand. Carlton had responded to a distress call from a local grocery store. Some kids had decided to rob the store and had fired shots. Lassiter had gone in guns blazing, which was his first mistake. He disarmed all but one of the robbers and had them in cuffs. The last one had snuck up on him and shot him in the left shoulder. Lassiter had returned the shot and had blown the gun out of the last assailant's hand. After cuffing the last man Lassiter felt his vision swim and saw that he had lost a lot of blood and was in considerable pain. McNabb had arrived first and called an ambulance for Lassiter who passed out in the taller man's arms.
O'Hara stared at the head detective, he had been slightly cavaleer with his life in the last few cases they had completed, barely managing to diffuse the situation before it deteriorated into a shootout. The chief had noticed and called O'Hara in her office. "He's risking his life out there unnecessarily!" Both women had said at the same time. Chief Vick sighed and had tried the office psychologist but had reached a dead end. Calling for the ex-Mrs. Spencer, Shawn's mother, had yielded a successful but extremely sad results. She had discovered the detective's feelings for her son and how the younger man had met his end. She had difficulty listening, knowing it was about her son, but managed to get through the whole session without crying. She then informed the chief that the detective had lost someone very close and was having difficulty letting go because of unexpressed feelings. The chief had asked for the best course of action, Lassiter had taken a week off but seemed no better. Mrs. Spencer said that the head detective needed to find a way to say goodbye to the person themselves.
O'Hara said, "Lassiter, I know you miss Shawn, but I'm sure he didn't want you to risk your life like this just because you miss him." She placed her hand gently on Lassiter's right shoulder and gave him a hug. She left the room and said, "Carlton, I'll be back with some lunch. Call me if you need anything, okay?" Lassiter nodded and the junior detective left. What felt like seconds later, thank you pain medication, Adam Levine walked into the room. "Mr. Levine, I thought you would have left Santa Barbara by now." His voice was flat and slightly curt. "Detective Lassiter... we need to talk about Shawn." Carlton felt his heart twist angrily. "No, WE don't!" Adam sat down in the chair next to the bed. "He loved you..." The singer said softly. Carlton stopped and stared at Adam. "W-What?" "He said he loved you... he never wanted to hurt you and, even though neither of you were in a relationship. He still wanted to wait for you, however long it took. Even if it meant... voice breaking he would never have you." The singer choked and a few stray tears fell down his face. Lassiter's heart went out to the man, he understood that Adam had feelings for Shawn and had never gotten the chance truly know the man, as Carlton had. "Adam... I'm sure Shawn knew how you felt about him. He has an annoying way of knowing things like that." Adam laughed and said, "Yeah... I know. I just wish he hadn't been taken away from you... or me." Lassiter grunted. "I know that he was going to choose you over me," Adam said, "I just wish I could have known him a little better. I don't get many true friends on the road. He qualifies." Lassiter chuckled, "Yeah... he had that annoying habit too. He could make anyone be his friend... Make anyone fall in love with him." Adam nodded. "I know it still hurts. Hell, it hurts for me too, but I'm sure Shawn wouldn't want you endangering yourself like this Detective." Lassiter swallowed hard and then nodded. His eyes welled and he turned away from the singer. Adam noticed and said, "Hey, it's okay, Carlton." Lassiter looked at him and said nothing. The two men shared the moment of missing Shawn together.
Hazel-eyes had taken to walking around the hospital a couple of times a day as part of his physical therapy. The doctor hadn't insisted but the nurses had. He felt their eyes following his movement in the thin hospital nightgown. He flushed as he felt the robe split at the back and the nurses stared at his naked ass. He then heard a nurse say in a hushed tone, "GUUUURRRLLL... I could look at that ALL day!" Hazel-eyes twisted his head and saw the nurses quickly look off in different directions. He continued down the hall, the nurses had been gossiping about a detective who had been brought in after being shot. Hazel-eyes wasn't sure why, but the name "Lassiter" had stuck in his brain and he wanted to see the man before he left. He walked down the hallway and looked in the window of room 204, where the detective was being held. He saw another man who looked like a rock star talking to him. Just as Hazel-eyes started to move away the detective looked over the other man's shoulder at the door's window. He quickly hid from view but heard the man shout something. He stood frozen in fear. Was I a wanted man? Maybe he's trying to capture me. Hazel tried to move but couldn't. He heard the door swing open and he stared intently. The detective walked out quickly, he was attached to an IV drip and screamed out the open door, "SHAWN!! WAIT!!!" Hazel-eyes who had managed to move to an open doorway hid from view. He called me "Shawn" is that who I am? "SHAWN! another voice cuts in... NO! I SAW HIM DAMMNIT! SHAWN PLEASE COME BACK!" Hazel-eyes poked his head around the corner, the man was desperately looking down the opposite end of the hallway. He said please... and he looks concerned. Okay, so I'm not a fugitive, now what? Hazel-eyes moved from behind the doorway and said, "Ummm... are you talking to me?"
Lassiter couldn't believe his eyes. "Shawn." His voice was quivering and he slowly moved to the shorter man. Adam had come into the hallway and when he had made eye contact with Shawn, he turned white. Shawn stared at the two men blankly and said, "Ummm... are you talking to me?" Lassiter felt himself go pale as he realized. "What's your name, sir?" Adam, gasped in realization. "Ummmm.... I don't know. I have retrograde amnesia. No identification. Three weeks ago I was in a fire downtown-" His words were cut off as the two men ran at him and hugged him. The men were crying and hugging him tightly. I guess they're my family Shawn thought.
Shawn felt lost still... he couldn't seem to remember either of the two men. They had re-introduced themselves to him as Detective Carlton Lassiter and Adam Levine, front singer for Maroon 5. Shawn smiled at them and said, "Nice to meet you both! I'm who again?" They talked with him for an hour, moving to Lassiter's room when the detective began to pale from the pain of the bullet wound. He wouldn't have said anything but Shawn noticed immediately. Lassiter called Juliet O'Hara, Gus, Henry Spencer and chief Vick immediately and told them to come to the Hospital now! Juliet arrived first and screamed loudly when she saw Shawn. She then ran into his arms and hugged him. When Gus arrived he sounded annoyed, "What the hell do you want-? OH MY GOD!!!! SHAWN!?" Gus burst into tears and ran over to Shawn. "Chocolate bears give the best hugs." Shawn said instinctively, he then stared at Lassiter. "Why did I say that?" Lassiter shrugged and Gus said, "You know that's right." Lassiter told Juliet and Gus about Shawn's memory and they looked at Shawn. "He doesn't remember us?" Shawn shook his head, "I'm right here! and no I don't." "But you just said..." said Gus. "I know. I just said it out of reflex." Henry arrived next he stopped in the hallway and sniffed. He then burst in the room and said, "Where's Shawn?" Shawn looked at him and said, "That's my dad?" Everyone nodded and Shawn walked over and hugged him. Henry returned the hug awkwardly. "Yeah... this feels familiar." Said Shawn. Finally chief Vick showed up and was bowled over by the psychic's appearance among the living. "Mr. Spencer I-" She was at a loss for words.
After a few hours of talking, Shawn had regained a few memories, nothing substanial though. He remembered the pineapple upside-down cake he had tried to cook, Lassiter's nicknames and the first time he met Juliet. The doctor had come in and said that visiting hours were over and that everyone, excluding Shawn and Lassiter, who were still recovering, had to leave. Shawn stayed with Lassiter and when everyone had left Shawn said, "So, Lassie... his voice was a little tight what was our, uh, professional relationship like?" Lassiter looked at him and said, "You drove me crazy and I yelled at you... frequently threatening large amounts of violence." Shawn cleared his throat. "I, ahem, see. What about outside of work?" Shaw had begun to feel familiar emotions and desires surfacing when he talked with the detective. Lassiter had managed to shield his true feelings through the day, leaving Shawn unable to read the man. Lassiter blushed and cleared his throat as well. "Well, when we found out that the feelings were, uh, mutual between us, you were trapped in a burning building. I thought you were going to die." Shawn looked at the detective blankly, "Oh. moving closer BUT, the feelings were mutual, right?" Lassiter gulped and said, "Uh... yes. Shawn puts his hand on the detectives opposite, and good shoulder Ummm... Spencer, what do you think you're -" He was cut off by Shawn's lips. Lassiter leaned towards the other man, crushing their lips together tightly. Shawn's tongue moved in and Lassiter opened his mouth. After a minute, Shawn pulled away, gasping and panting. Lassiter saw spots as his brain fought to regain oxygen. His lips were tingling, whether from oxygen deprevation, the circulation being cut off by Shawn's lips, or the fact that it was Shawn, Lassiter didn't care. He just wanted to do it again.
The two men continued kissing until Shawn leaped up on the bed, which groaned under the weight of the two men. "Shawn-" He was cut off by the psychic's lips again. Shawn kneeled over the detective's waist, grinding into his groin. Lassiter moaned as the younger man's ass rubbed against his cock. Lassiter felt his cock come to life and strain against the fabric of his dress pants. "Oh Shawn." Shawn moved down the detectives chest, kissing his neck and throat. When he reached the detective's nipples he sucked and licked each one, making them stick up straight. Lassiter was growling low in his throat and pulled the psychic in for a kiss. His other hand grabbed the psychic's front and pulled up his robe. Shawn hissed as the detective's hands wrapped around his cock. Shawn moved away quickly and unzipped and unbuttoned the detective's pants. Shawn then pulled opened Lassiter's boxers and began to suck Carlton's steadily growing cock. Shawn gagged a few times, making Carlton's cock throb. Finally, Shawn moved back up and slowly began to lower himself onto the detective's cock. Shawn winced as Lassiter's cock entered the first, tight ring of muscles. Lassiter stopped him, seeing the wince. "Slowly Shawn... don't hurt yourself." Shawn just grunted and said, "I won't break Lassieface." He then dropped himself the rest of the way and Lassiter felt himself almost reach the point of no return. Lassiter gasped and said, "Hold on a minute Shawn or I'm gonna..." Shawn smiled and the two waited, kissing one another as they got comfortable. Finally Shawn began to raise and lower himself onto Carlton's throbbing cock. Both men were on cloud nine. As Shawn moved, Carlton pulled him in and kissed him, rubbing his hands all over, wanting to memorize everything about Shawn. Shawn placed his hands on the bed, trying to get leverage to move up higher and drop himself more. Carlton's cock was stabbing into Shawn's prostate, which was making the psychic see stars and each time he dropped himself he let out a series of sounds punctuated with the rubbing of his prostate, "oh FUCK... that's so fuckng GOOD. Oh GOD. again! Right THERE Lassie. Oh CARLTON... I love you!" The last words made Shawn look at Lassiter in panic. Carlton didn't stop but just stared into Shawn's eyes, "I love you too Shawn." The detective's hands found their way to Shawn's erection and he began to jerk and twist Shawn as the pace increased. Shawn could hardly breathe, he moved up and down more quickly and said, "So close Carlton... I can't..." He looked like he was about to pass out from the build. Shawn moved his hands to try and stop Lassiter's movements. Lassiter smacked his hands away and then leaned up to kiss Shawn on the lips. Shawn let out a whimper and then a long low groan as he reached the point of no return. Lassiter realized how much he was affecting Shawn and felt his own orgasm take over. As Shawn gasped, "Lassie!" Carlton let out a long low predatory growl. Shawn shot cum all over himself, Carlton, and the bed. Lassiter tried to pull out but Shawn held him in, tightening his ass muscles around the detective. Carlton shot into Shawn's ass and continued to jerk the psychic's cock. Shawn's eyes glazed over as his orgasm hit and he quickly winced in pain as his cock became very sensitive. Lassiter, seeing this, released his hold only to have Shawn grab his own cock again and yank roughly, "F-feels, s-s-s-so good." He said. Lassiter smiled at him. A brief moment of silence passes between the two men as Shawn turns his head and stares at the room expectantly. "We're not even at your place Lassie, just what kind of a guy do you think I am?" Lassiter stares at him blankly and said hesitantly, "You remember where I live?" Shawn looked surprised and said, "Oh my god! My memory is back!"
