Tyler:

"Hon, why don't you go pour us some more wine?" Jared said to Taylor. Keegan walked back to the car knowing he wasn't wanted at the door. As soon as Taylor was out of earshot I spoke.

"A woman? You had an affair with a woman? God, I had no idea you hated me that much!" I said angrily.

"Well, I hope you realize it now." he said unemotionally. "Don't ever come over here again, Tyler." He then proceeded to slam the door shut.

I walked back to the car and drove the kids to an ice cream shop in complete silence. Alan kept looking at me worriedly but said nothing. When we got to the shop I gave Keegan a twenty for the four of them.

"So, you gonna tell me what's wrong?" Alan asked.

I smiled bitterly. "Jared wasn't having an affair with a man. He was cheating on me with a woman." As much as I hated it, tears fell from my eyes. I let out a sad sigh and dropped my head on the steering wheel.

"Oh, wow," Alan said bewilderedly. "Tyler, I'm so sorry."

I broke down. "Was I that bad of a husband for him to leave me for a woman? I was handling a man fine, but then it turns out that he's a she." The tears poured out heavier than I could've ever imagined.

"Tyler, I'm sure that you were a great husband. You definitely do not deserve the kind of treatment he is giving you." Alan said warmly.

I sniffled. "Thanks, but I really wasn't that great. I should've cooked dinner more instead of going out. Maybe that's what's wrong. Do you think that's it?"

Alan smiled. "No, I don't think that's it. Besides, no matter how much you cooked at all I'm sure that it isn't the reason. I mean, you are a fantastic cook."

"Thanks," I sighed, bearing a grin.

Travers:

"Babe," I laughed. "Don't do that with your ice cream." What Trevor was doing was deepthroating his ice cream turning me on a great deal. Ever since we first had sex, Trevor has had an insatiable appetite for the act. Don't get me wrong I like having sex with him, but the time when he went twice in a row kind of scared me. To be honest, it scared me more than when I got raped and I don't know why.

"Sorry," he mumbled cutely.

"So, I was thinking when school starts back up I'll talk to the swim coach about trying out for the team. The actual tryouts aren't until like April or something like that, but I don't know if I could do that with everyone around."

"Why not? You are the greatest swimmer I've ever seen in my life. You're so good you could probably beat Phelps." Trevor said enthusiastically.

I laughed. "Whoa, babe, I'm nowhere near as good as he is, but I do appreciate the comparison."

"Well, all I know is that you are great at everything you do." Trevor gushed.

"Aww," I blushed brightly.

Torry and Keegan were horsing around and eating their own ice cream. The man working eventually threatened to kick us out if they didn't calm down. But it didn't matter because Tyler texted me and told me that we were leaving. He and Alan were having a quiet conversation when the four of us walked up.

"You and Trevor don't need to come home, but I need to get the boys home since they do have school tomorrow." Tyler said.

"All right, how long do we have?" I questioned.

"Just try to be home before one, okay?"

"Ohh, you and Alan want a little alone time, huh?" I prodded him.

Tyler looked surprised. "Travers!" he scoffed. I looked over at Alan who was just grinning innocently.

"Right, sorry, but we'll be home by one." I ran back to my car and jumped in.

Minutes passed by and neither Trevor nor I knew what to do. On a late Tuesday night there really isn't anything to do. It's always all about the weekend. Well, when I become president everything will change. I'll make gay marriage finally legal so everyone will shut up about it because I am so sick of hearing "gay marriage this..." and "gay marriage that..." It's like get a fucking life, make it legal, and let's move the fuck on. Look at Canada, eh? They legalized the whole marriage thing and they're still doing great. From my viewpoint, I'd like to ask a hater "Does me being gay harm you physically in any way?" I'd love to hear their answer back.

At about eleven, the two of us decided to just go up to the viewpoint in the mountains. Jared once told me that that was where he proposed to Tyler, in this car even. Marriage is something I never considered with Trevor. It's legal in our state, but I'm not sure if I'd want to stay here forever. But who knows? Maybe that topic will never even come up with Trevor. He probably doesn't feel the same way anyways.

"Wow, the view is amazing!" Trevor exclaimed.

"Yeah, it's definitely something." I said glumly. All these thoughts about marriage are getting me down for some reason.

Trevor eyed me curiously. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing's wrong," I sighed.

"Travers, I've known you long enough to know when you're upset about something. Now, what is it?"

"It's just... Okay, Jared told me one time that he proposed to Tyler up here in this car. I was just thinking about marriage."

"Oh," he got out.

"Sorry, obviously this isn't something we need to be talking about." A hint of anger was in my words.

"It's not that, Travers. We've only been going out for a few months. Isn't it too soon to talk about marriage?"

"Well, who said I wanted to marry you?" I said without thinking. Trevor had a hurt look on his face. "Wait, that's not what I meant. All I'm saying is that... You know, I don't even know what I'm saying anymore. But you're right. It is too soon to be talking about marriage. Just know that when the time comes to talk about it I would marry you I think." He looked at me sadly. "I'm just gonna shut up."

For the next hour the two of us sat in complete silence. The only sounds were crickets chirping and an occasional car horn echoing from the city. Trevor would look over at me on occasion, but for the most part he just kept his arms folded and his head pointing towards the city. I wasn't feeling any particular emotion towards him, but I was frustrated at myself for not being able to say he right things to him. I've been having that happen to me a lot lately-not being able to say what I want to say.

Trevor turned his head slightly and looked at me. I also turned my head slightly towards him, but then he positioned his back so I did, too. But then I turned my head again and so did he. I couldn't stop it from happening; my lips were curling up.

"Damn you for being so cute." Trevor stated with his own grin.

"What can I say?" I smugly spoke. "It's a gift."

Trevor nudged me. "I'm sorry I took it so personal. I know what you meant about marriage. But let's save that talk for later in the future like when we've been together for a year or two." he said happily.

I smiled broadly. "You amaze me."

"'It's a gift'" he mocked.

"Well, if you're done making fun of me, want to go home?"

"Lead the way,"

Tyler:

"Tommy and I were wondering if you needed a babysitter or something because we could really use some extra money right now." Zac asked.

"No, actually," I said apologetically. "But my Murano could use some detailing."

"Awesome," Zac said excitedly. "When?"

"How about tomorrow? I have nothing to do so why not stop by at about eleven?"

"Great," Zac said. "Thanks a lot, Tyler."

"No problem, bye." I hung up then went back to the couch.

Tonight I gave up my bed to Keegan and Torry. It's nearing one and Travers still isn't home. I'm not waiting up for him, but I just can't seem to sleep. The events of tonight are replaying in my mind. I'm still in utter shock that Jared had an affair on me with a woman. How am I supposed to feel about that? Why a woman? Was I lousy in bed? Did I make a mistake making dinner one night? Or were my cleaning talents not up to his standards?

My cell phone ringing broke me of my thoughts. "Hello?" I answered.

"Hey, I didn't wake you did I?" Alan asked worriedly.

"Nope, I'm just laying down." I yawned.

"Good," he said. "I am, too, and I just felt like talking to you."

"Aww, how sweet." I gushed.

"So, what's on your mind?"

I sighed, "Jared."

"Ah, the ex-husband,"

"I'm just trying to think of anything that I may have done to make him hate me so much."

"Tyler, you can't keep thinking like that. You have to look into the future, not the past."

"But what if I can fix us?"

"Well, then I'd wish the best four you two."

"Oh, I'm sorry, I didn't think, Alan."

"Hey, it's okay. He'd be a fool not to take you back anyways. I mean, he'd be a fool to not make...um... Do you get it?"

I laughed at his confusion. "Yeah, I know what you mean."

"And I know I've said this a thousand times, but dinner tonight was excellent. When are you going to cook for me again?"

"How about Friday night?"

"That sounds great." Alan happily said. "Since we're talking dinner, I want to invite you to a family dinner on Christmas Eve. You can bring your boys, too."

I sat straight up. "You mean, meet your family kind of dinner?"

"Well, it's just going to be me, mom, dad, my two younger brothers, and my sister, and you and Keegan and Travers if you decide to." Alan explained without a care in the world. "But if you don't want to then that's fine."

"No, it's not that I don't want to, but wouldn't meeting your family kind of make me your boyfriend?"

"Yeah, I think it would."

If only he could've seen the smile on my face. "Well, since you offered it would be rude of me not to accept your invitation. It would be nice to not be alone on Christmas Eve. So, yeah I think I would much enjoy that. The boys will tag along as well."

"Great!" Alan exclaimed.

A pair of lights shined into the room. "Oh, listen, Travers and Trevor are home so I'll call you tomorrow, okay?"

"Can't wait," Alan sighed. "Good night."

"Night." I closed my phone and laid back down.

Travers just walked through the door as I was fluffing my pillow. He looked at me quizzically, but he said nothing and went into his room. His light was on for only a second before it was once again dark.

"What are you doing out here?" he asked.

"Your brothers are occupying my bed." I said tiredly.

"Oh, well, want to sleep with me? I have a queen for a reason."

"No thanks, I'm fine out here."

"Get your ass in gear and into my bed." Travers said sternly.

"Excuse me?" I asked, shocked he raised his voice at me.

"You heard me, Tyler. Why do you always have to give us everything? You bought everything in this apartment with your own money so it's all yours. I don't care if we share the same bed anyways."

"Travers, that is my duty as your dad to give you everything you need. I sacrifice things that I want or need because it's the right thing to do. And I don't regret doing that for even a second."

"Stop being so stubborn and just get in my bed."

"Travers, I am really fine out here. You should go to bed though." I calmly spoke.

"Please sleep with me," he cried out. He fell to his knees and began to weep into his hands.

I quickly kneeled in front of him and pulled him into me. "What's wrong, baby?"

"I feel so guilty."

"Why?"

"Because I keep thinking that maybe if I wouldn't have been so wicked to you and Jared that you guys wouldn't have fought so much. And now you're divorced without knowing why. What if it's because of me?" he cried hysterically.

"Sweetheart, the divorce is absolutely none of your fault. Even Jared isn't to blame. You're rebellion phase did cause some unwanted tension in the house, but we never fought because of you, Travers."

"Don't lie to me!"

"I promise I'm not lying." I assured him truthfully. "Nothing that's happened to this family is your fault." I leaned back from him and stared him in the eyes. "I promise you."

He sniffled and wiped his eyes. "All right, I believe you."

"Good," I kissed his forehead.

"Can I ask you a favor?"

"Name it,"

"Will you sleep with me?"

I smiled and shook my head slightly. "Sure,"

The next morning I had Travers take Keegan and Torry to school. I was somewhat exhausted for some odd reason. It wasn't until Travers told me that Zac and Tommy were here to wash my Murano that I got out of bed at least.

"How'd they know how to get here?" I asked Travers, slipping back into my clothes.

"They called me," he replied.

I walked out of the bedroom and saw the two boys looking at some school papers on the dining table. "Sorry, guys, I totally forgot I never told you where I lived."

"It's cool," Tommy said.

"So, um, I hope I don't get too personal, but where's Jared?" Zac questioned.

Before I could answer that, Travers cut in. "I'll help you guys wash the Murano. Let's go to the garage and I'll show you the cleaning stuff." I let out a small sigh of relief as the three of them left the room. I poured myself some coffee then went to watch some TV. Instead of watching the retarded soap, though, I spent some time trying to muster up the courage to possibly forgive Jared and stop blaming myself. For a little while it worked up until an hour later, Travers walked through the door looking a bit cautious.

"You'll probably hate me forever, but Jared's here." he said quickly.

"What!?" I shouted.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't thinking. He called me earlier and said he needed to drop off something of Keegan's and I just sort of told him where the apartment was without thinking."

"Travers!" I ran into my bedroom and hurriedly changed my clothes. When I walked out of my bedroom Jared was in the living room.

"Nice place," he said.

"Yeah, it is." I replied.

"I tried calling your cell, but you didn't answer. I'm just here to drop off some of Keegan's school things and to tell you that I'll pick him up today." Jared said. He set Keegan's things down on the couch.

"I'm sure he'll be thrilled about that."

"So, how'd your date go last night?"

"It went just fine given the circumstances."

"Right, well, I should get going." He walked to the door, but before leaving he turned and said, "I'm sorry for the way things turned out."

I paused for a second before replying back to him. "No," There was not a trace of emotion on my face. "You're not." He then gave me a weak look and left.

The truth is, everyone breaks the rules now and then. Never thinking for one second they might get caught. But if they do, they simply ask for forgiveness. And most of the time, they receive it. But some acts are so wicked, they demand only our condemnation. How do people avoid such a fate? Well, the trick is knowing which rules are made to be broken and which rules are not.*
