Project C.R.O.N.O.S Phase One
"Project C.R.O.N.O.S testing is now underway..." I heard faintly on my ears as I felt the straps loosen on my wrists. Not that I could actually do anything if I had them off. I was drugged up from all the medicine and drugs they put in my system.
I doubted that they even knew that my mind was still intact. They made sure that I was just like a vegetable. Still and powerless. I haven't seen the outside world in ages. The last thing I saw was the needle going into my arm. After that my eyes would never see anything again.
At least that's what I thought. The only thing I could do was breath and think. Everything else was under their power.
All I wanted was to stop being sick. For that wish I was now useless to myself. Whatever they wanted was in me. The disease that was killing me was something they needed. My life meant nothing but a solution to one of their problems.
Constantly tested never knowing rest. Even if I could not move, I still wished for the testing to stop. The pain and torment they cause still hurts me. Not physically. Only mentally. Hearing them tell my family of my death was the hardest thing I ever had to hear.
More so the fact that they persuaded my family to leave my body with them in order for them to research my cause of death. To keep others from dieing the way I did. They said yes. Leaving me in their hands.
A wet cloth moved over my arm as I felt a rubber band wrap on my arm. The needle pierced my skin. I imagined closing my eyes as I felt whatever substance they were putting go into my body.
"This serum will keep him alive and the virus from progressing anymore. Administer one everyday so that he can live on. Miss a day and the virus will progress more." There was a clank of metal somewhere nearby before footfalls sounded off.
"Put the serums in the cases and in the safe. The password is his birthday." A familiar feminine voice said as more footfalls were heard. Heels or something of that nature tapped on the group coming close to me.
"Project C.R.O.N.O.S is ready for the next test ma'am, Seth is ready for his test." Another familiar voice said this time it was masculine.
"Understood," I felt a soft hand touch my cheek. "I know you can hear me," I heard her whisper. "I'm sorry for doing this to you but its for the greater good. Maybe one day you can forgive us." I felt soft lips touch my cheek before hearing the tapping of heels disappear disappear.
The straps were put on again and I heard the wheels rolling on the ground. It didn't seem like a test for me. Just a shot. Powerful drugs? Maybe.
I felt myself rise and heard the clink of the bed being connected to the wall. I heard the door close in front of me with a whoosh. Again in my silent torment. The only thing that kept me from going insane was the fact that I could hear other people. My former dream was to become a doctor but now. I wanted to be free.
I gave out a yell in my mind as pain surged up through my arm. I felt like crying but knew that my body would not respond accordingly. In whatever for I was in my mind was crying as the pain spread everywhere. If I could close my eyes I would, but in my mind I did. I let the pain flow through my body as I let myself drift in my own darkness. Sleep was my only way out of this pain.
Even for a moments reprieve.
The first thing I heard was the sirens going off all around. The pain was long gone and the numbness was slowly fading.
"Red Alert! System malfunction has caused massive damage. Subjects container grids have been deactivated. For your safety please evacuate the area."
I heard distant screams somewhere in the area as I wondered what would happen to me. They could move I couldn't. There were more screams and soon it was nothing more. There was a click and a shutter. Wondering what it could be I felt the restraints loosen and I fell to the floor. The class was pressed against my cheek.
There was a sound of heels clicking on the floor and the sound of a keypad being pressed. I was held somewhere with a keypad? Weird I never heard it before. I fell on the floor as the glass slide away. Two hands grabbed my shoulders and pulled. My body was dragged on the floor.
"I'm going to inject you with the serum that will counteract the other medications that prohibit your movement. It will take sometime before you can move but at least you will be able to escape. Its my duty as a doctor to make sure you survive." I heard her say before hearing her soft clicks. I felt the needle being injected into my arm before her moving off somewhere.
There was some noises. Keyboard typing?
"Some of the test subjects have been eradicated, however some we can't handle so we have to leave. You have a better chance at escaping this place, filled with monsters, than anyone else. Your blood was used as a foundation for most of these experiments. They should see you nothing but as a fragment of themselves. Some though will be hostile to you."
More keyboard typing and the sound of a copier echoed.
"When you feel that you can move again take this gun and make your way out the building. A good place to look at first is the computer room. I'm sorry for causing you trouble and for the other test subjects. But know that I meant well. It was the need for a cure that I had to resort to something so immoral. I hope to see you again.... at least you being alive."
I felt something being placed on my chest before feeling her lips on my forehead. Her hand went through my hair before I heard the clicks again. The sound of the door opening was heard lightly, a pause, and the door closed.
I got accustomed to the sound of the sirens as I slowly felt my body become mine again. It took me a few minutes to slowly regain the ability and the memory on how to move. The last thing I had to try to move was my eyelids. I slowly opened them and closed them shut as the lights blinded my eyes. Trying slowly for a few minutes I was able to makes the hurt dull down.
I stared at the ceiling as my eyes where finally open after so long. I gave a smile and felt tears flow down my cheek. Nothing from my past could compare to the happiness I felt now. I rose and sat crossed legged on the floor. Staring at the way my hands moved.
I was dressed in white clothing and my skin was rather pale now. However my disease was already making my skin pale before so it wasn't that big of a surprised. The gun was laying on my lap looking so strange to me now.
My blood was used for some sort of experiments. Experiments that were now killing people. Or were since there was nothing but the ring of the sirens. They were walking the hall now looking for victims. I bit my lip as I closed my eyes. I felt used and dirty but with a hint of happiness. I did this things in my mind for so long and now I could do it.
I wish for other circumstances but I would have to use what I could get.
I slowly rose and worked on getting my legs to respond correctly. Surprisingly my legs were not that stiff than I thought. After not using them for so long I thought they would be hard to use. One thing I had to get before I left was the serum's.
The ones that kept the virus at bay. If I left without them I would surely die. It was at the left corner and I slowly made my way over. My birthday worked as the password and I opened up a case. It was filled with lots of shots. They were tiny and thin. They would last me for more than a few months.
Just enough for me to find my family and spend whatever time I had with them left. I closed the safe and put the case in a small black bag. Seeing as I had no idea where to go a map was something I needed to find. From there the computer room then my freedom.
I hooked the bag on my waist and cocked the gun. I took a deep breath and pushed the door open. I was expecting to see blood or dead bodies around but all I saw was white. As look would have it there was a small map on a bulletin board just down a small corridor.
After making sure it was safe I slowly waked over. If I ran to it I was sure to attract something. Loud noises draw things out.
Apparently I was located in the east section of this place called Sanctuary Three. I didn't even remember coming here. I went to a doctor firm from the government in order to get tested and checked for a possible cure. Not for this.
The Main Computer Room was located in the northern section just a few blocks away from where I was. Blocks that could be filled with monsters. I took a deep breath and made my way to the first block. As soon as I touched the handle the lights went out. Perfect.
I opened the door and peaked inside. Somehow there was a small amount of light lighting the area. The block was empty and I slowly made my way threw it. There was magazines on the floor as were the pillows.
The next three blocks were the same just slightly different. The hallway corridor was different however. Very different. People in the same outfit as me where on the floor covered in blood. Some of them looked normal others had a strange appearance.
I gripped the gun in my hand as I started walking. I could hear nothing just the soft steps of my feet on the tile. Cold tile. I looked around the room before I looked to the side in shame. This violence was in someway linked to me.
"Emergency power now activating." A computer voice rang out as the lights slowly turned on. Not all of them but just a few. Keeping the main things powered while the rest went bye bye I guessed.
Slowly making my way through the bodies I found my way to the next blocks. I froze when I closed the next block's door. A young girl was sitting in the middle of the room with blood on her hands and clothes. She was rubbing some sort of organ. I covered my mouth and tried my best to throw up.
The girl had a little smile on her face as she rubbed the organ. If it wasn't for the blood and organ I would have felt remorse for her.
I walked slowly to the next door that was a few feet behind her. I gave a noise of disgust as I stepped in something cold and wet. I didn't even want to look at what I stepped in as the girl slowly raised her head at me.
Waiting was all I could do as I held the gun in my hands. If she did anything than I would have to kill her but I didn't want to do anything to hurt her.
Her eyes shined as the red lights flashed. She lowered her head and continued to pet the organ again. I covered my mouth and used the wall as a base for walking. I maneuvered over the blood stains as I stared at the little girl. She was younger than me which made me sad.
Once I left the block I made sure so lock the door so that she wouldn't change her mind about attacking me. I used a pillow to whip the blood off my foot before I went to the next block. A few more blocks and the computer room would be my safe zone. At least I hopped.
I froze as a girl plunged a dagger into a body of another girl. The girl that got stabbed was wearing the same outfit as me the other however was different. Her skirt was black and she had a white tank-top. Her boots were below her knees a combination of black and white. Her gloves were black and fingerless. Her hand gripped as she pushed the dagger deeper.
The girl with the dagger in her stomach gave a noise before falling to the ground with a thump. The red light flashed and showed the other girls red hair. Long and silky. She raised the dagger and stared at it, like the blood was interesting.
I gave a squeak and she turned around. She turned to look at me with a raised eyebrow. She shaked the dagger, the blood flung to the floor and wall. She raised her hand to her face and moved her hair out of her eyes.
"Friend or Foe?" She asked as she rubbed the blade of the dagger with her thumb.
Her voice was soft, gentle, but scary. There was a hint of something in there. Something that made me want to run.
"What?" I asked confused. Mostly scared.
She gave a sigh and placed the dagger somewhere on her waist. She flicked her hair over her shoulder. "Guess that answers my question. If you were an enemy you wouldn't have answered back." She knelt down and put her hand over the other girls neck. Checking the pulse?
"An enemy?" I asked. I held the gun firmly. She could be a 'monster'.
"Subjects or experiments that have lost all sense of thought and will. All they know, is to kill. Those who still had their mind were killed by these...." She grabbed the girls head and twisted it. I closed my eyes as the cracking noise rang out.
"What about you?" I didn't look at her just at the blood stained floor. I smelled copper and something nasty. I didn't wanna think about it.
"Experiment Number 46 Ruby. You?"
"I don't know what my number is just that I was given drugs. I can't remember my name." Even if I had memories of my past. Not many since it was probably the side effects of the drugs. All I knew was I had a family and that I went to get some sort of help. But I was close to the age of twenty something. She looked about the same age.
"Affect of drugs on your mind could have warped it. It could come back now with no more drugs," I looked at her now. She was looking at the dead body. She rose, still looking at the body. "You have a gun so you have the capability to kill your way to freedom."
I gripped the gun. "Just cause I have it doesn't mean I want to use it. I'd rather sneak my way out than kill." I was going to die soon anyway.
"But still you hold it for your protection. That must mean you still have a sense of preservation." She looked at me and I looked to the side. She was right on that part. Even if I didn't want to kill, I still wanted to live.
"Yeah." Seeing as for now she wasn't a threat I started walking towards the next block. She seemed cold and a little distant. But if she was an experiment than I could see how she could be like that.
"Do you plan to use that gun or will you run from the 'enemy'?" Her voice stopped my movements. I felt bad at the word enemy. They were victims in some sort of grand scheme of things.
"I don't know." If what the doctor said was right I could walk past some experiments without no harm. However the fact that some would hurt me was another story. Could I kill them? Could I kill innocent people? Just to protect myself even if I did want to live?
"Don't pity them. All thought and reason has left their mind. All they see is targets. Whoever they were before is gone. Can you still shoot?"
"I...." I stared at the gun in my hand. I could say yes but it didn't happen yet so I couldn't say.
I heard footsteps behind me and gave a little gulp as she passed me. She could kill me with her dagger just as I could kill her with the gun. She could use it to kill but could I? I gripped the gun.
"Seeing as you may not have the will of a warrior, I have to help you escape." She walked towards the door.
"Why are you helping me?" I asked. Not that I wasn't grateful or anything but that was strange.
"I have nothing to do aside from killing anything that tries to kill me. Keeping you alive from them will just give me another reason to keep living." She opened the door and entered the other block.
Killing just to kill? Just so that you have something to do? Did she even have a will? Or was she one of them?
I opened the door and was surprised to see her waiting. "You do have a will right?" I raised my eyebrow.
She turned to look at me with a bored expression. "If I didn't you would have been dead when I passed you. I have nothing to do, just to survive. Helping you just keeps me from being bored." She turned around and started walking.
I frowned. So I was something to keep her happy? I shook my head. At least I had some help right? Catching up with her was easy as she kept a light pace. "Ruby was it?" She nodded. "Why did they bring you to this place?"
"I don't remember. All that I remember was being trained to be a soldier." She didn't even seem sad. Which was. Guess she had the same problem with my memory as I did. However, she knew her name. I didn't.
"That's sad isn't it?" I raised my eyebrow.
"You do what you have to do. Make best what life gives you," She looked at me closely before opening the next block. "Where are we going?"
"Computer room. A doctor who set me free told me to go there. Something along the lings of being a good place to start or something." Which should be in the next block.
"Guess that's better than my plan of killing my way out." I nodded. So she wanted to know if I was going to do the same thing that she was gonna do before.
Just as we were about to exit the block we heard a noise and both turned around. I didn't know if it was instinct or just her training but she took out her dagger in a flash and stabbed a guy in the chest. Not even a chance to look at the person or anything.
She kicked the guy off her dagger and I turned around as she slashed again. I kept my mind on the thought that death was better than what they were going through. "The ones who were killed first were the ones who where experimented on genetic immunities. The ones who killed where experimented on adrenaline and rage."
"What where you?" I asked keeping my nose covered.
"A mixture of both projects. A soldier with high immunities and the strength of rage." Rage powered by adrenaline was powerful. Adrenaline gave you the power to do things your strength you could never normally do. Like a mother saving her child who was under a car.
"How do you know all this?"
She did something behind me, probably getting the blood off her dagger again, and passed me again towards the door. "I was an active experiment so I heard things I shouldn't have. While the other experiments were kept in a comatose state I was left awake. Guessing by your lack of will to fight, I say you are a genetic experiment."
"Yeah I am." I didn't want to let her know that I was the cause of the experimentation's. My sickness made others lose their lives while I had to live on in their death. I closed my eyes and turned to the side. Who could live with type of guilt?
"Don't worry about that now. You are alive and that's all that matters." She walked to the next block door and waited.
I gave a sigh and followed. Entering the block was shocking. Everyone was dead. People dressed like me and others who looked like doctors. I looked over at Ruby. "Did you...." I couldn't ask. There was so much blood and gore. Like an animal killed them.
"I haven't came to this section before, so it wasn't me. I came from the other direction when I met you." I nodded. The map showed lots of blocks which meant there was plenty of ways to go to one place. Not to mention that this mess had to leave the person who did it covered in blood.
I covered my mouth and started looking for the computer room. I lifted my shirt over my nose as I tried to open the computer room. Unfortunately it was locked.
"You have to enter a password if you wanted to enter." Ruby pointed at the keypad and I blushed. It felt weird to blush but it made me feel like my old self. Which I could not remember.
I tried random codes and none of them word. "The password is his birthday." I didn't know why I remembered that but I did. Even stranger was that I did remember my birthday like before. Taking a shot I entered my number and was surprised when the door opened.
"Guess I got lucky." I blushed when Ruby raised her eyebrow at me but she shoot it off and entered. I looked at the keypad and followed her.
The door closed behind us and the lights turned on. The whole room was bright with a giant computer screen in the middle with smaller ones around the room. There was a control panel in the middle. I walked over to the control panel and started the machine.
"Please enter password." Giving it another shot I entered my birthday. "Access denied." I frowned. What could it be then?
"Didn't your doctor friend give you the password?" I shook my head. At least I wasn't aware of it. "Try something that you could have heard if you where awake when experimented on you." I would ask her for some tries but I doubted that she would. She would have said something if she would have.
I crossed my arms and stared at the monitor as it blinked. "CRONOS." Rang in my mind. I did hear someone say that but could it be? I typed in the name. "Access Approved."
"What did you type?" She leaned over and looked at the monitor.
"CRONOS." I watched as the computer started to load up. As soon as it was loaded the others started loading too.
Ruby gave a little hmm.... "Why would they use their project name as a password?" I wondered that too. Maybe the doctor who saved me changed it in order for me to find out something. She did say to come here.
"Not sure but we should look for the exits since the maps don't have them." I didn't look at the other monitors since I caught a glimpse of one and I didn't want to see anymore. The girl who was petting the organ was on one of them.
"You do that, I will look around the place." She turned around and started walking.
"Don't touch anything." I said as I searched through files.
"Course not. Like I would press buttons and set of the self destruct thing or something." She said as she continued to look around the area.
I found the map that showed the exit. Luckily it was down the hall past a hanger. "Found the exit its nearby." I closed the map and was about to shut down monitor but a file was left on the computer desktop that made me stop.
Genesis Incident.
Curiosity got the best of me and I clicked it. The screen showed something loading and when it said loading complete the big monitor lit up.
"What did you do?" Ruby asked but I looked at the monitor. Words started flashing on the screen.
Year 2015.... Three years after I went to the clinic....
Three years after the virus spread we found the answer to our problems. With the serum created from our test subject Omega we were able to eradicate the virus. However the damage was done and the world was teetering towards complete human extinction. Towards complete human extinction?
Keeping the Sanctuaries from falling into the hands of the rebels we kept their locations secret. One in America, Russia, Japan, and Germany. With each of these sanctuaries we can keep the basic principle of our mission clear. Terminate all humans outside of the sanctuaries.
"Terminate all humans?" I couldn't believe what I just read.
"Its hard to who was contaminated with the virus. The virus destroyed the body and sometimes the mind. It caused people to become violent and start killing those around them. However some were immune to the virus while others who were sick with something else had an immunity to it. Making those people valuable." Ruby just stared at me. I was one of those subjects.
With Omega's blood we were able to create the serum and heal those who weren't fully consumed by the virus. Those who weren't touched by it were infused with is blood in order to give them immunities to diseases and other health harming ailments.
In order to comply with our united mission we used Seth's unique 'talent' and Omega's blood to create super soldiers. However over Ninety-nine percent were failed. The zero point one percent were incomplete. The will was left and eventually they would malfunction or die.
Ruby is a near perfect super soldier that shows incredible skill in killing and deception. Her will remains however, making her incomplete. For this mission we need killers with no will. Her failure though creates the way for new super soldiers. The weak fall before her which makes her useful. I looked over at Ruby. It just wasn't fair. They...
"I have no regrets over what I have done. My mission is.... incomplete. I have no desire to extinguish the life outside the walls of this Sanctuary. Preserving my own life is my only objective. All else is meaningless." Something flashed in her eyes but I couldn't tell what it was. She could be deceiving me though.
Omega's body has the only cure to the virus. Even if it has been eradicated it could appear at any moment. Keeping Omega alive is high priority. His disease is spreading through his body making more antibodies that hinder any mutations of any kind. The disease is non transferable. The cases with his disease have been failed. Their body's couldn't take the tests. Who was this Omega?
The cure for Omega's has been sent to another sanctuary for testing. We are not sure if the cure will keep the antibodies from forming or continue their production. Keeping him alive and sick is the only answer for our experimentation. If we crack the code all illnesses will vanish if we do. Most are immune now with his blood however others remain.
Seth is a special case with a special talent with his adrenaline. He can go into stages of adrenaline to enhance his strength. At certain cost however. He loses all will and thought and goes onto rampages. Experimentation has kept his stages under control. With this knowledge we integrated his DNA into subjects.
Half survived half died. Those who survived had a fraction of his stages. However, Experiment Number 46 Ruby has all the stages without losing her control. Seth and Ruby combined, make the perfect super soldier. No will, destruction, and power are what is needed for the super soldier.
Each subject brings forth the goal of Project C.R.O.N.O.S closer to completion. All that's left is for Omega's blood to reveal its secrets. Main priority for Sanctuary Three is the testing and preservation of the Omega Project. The screen went blank. The large monitor showed the hanger now.
"Seeing as the other test subjects are either dead or killing. I would have to say that you are Omega." Ruby snapped me out of my thoughts.
"Make's sense why my mind and body weren't damaged." Mind stabled and why I was able to recuperate so fast while I was in an almost comatose state.
"Omega do you remember anything before the alarms went off?" I shook my head. So I was going to be called Omega wasn't I?
"Neither do I. I remember sleeping in my pod before I was set free. Maybe Seth knows something." Ruby turned around and looked back at the cabinet.
"Seth?" I raised my eyebrow. There were so many things going through my mind.
"Project Seth. He was in a pod next to mine but he wasn't there when I awoke," Ruby took out shoes from the cabinet and placed them on the floor. "They have plenty of clothes here. Guess that they changed in here when things got messy."
I shivered at the word messy. I reached down and tried a few shoes till I found one the right size. Ruby closed the cabinet after nothing else in there seemed useful. As I tied my shoes she looked around the computer room. Once I was finished I got off the floor and dusted myself off.
"Here. You keep hold to this while we make our escape," She tossed me a white backpack with a red cross on it. First aid kit. "I put in three first aid kits in there so we should be fine if something happens."
I put on the backpack as Ruby opened the door. Once it was securely on I followed her. "The hanger is down the hall and the exit is in the hanger." I whispered as I reached her. She nodded and we exited the Computer Room.
We went down the hall in silence and entered the hanger. It was a huge spacious area with a few trucks parked. I smiled when I saw the exit. It was a gigantic opening in the hanger that let the sun shine inside.
"Keep close to me. Even if we are close to the exit there could still be enemies nearby." I nodded. We checked a few trucks and didn't find any keys or anything.
"Guess that means we have to walk." Ruby said as she closed the truck door.
"We still haven't checked that one." I pointed at the truck across from us. She gave what I thought was a small smile and started walking over.
A loud noise erupted from somewhere in the hanger and we both stopped and looked around. My eyes landed on the door we came out of a few minutes ago. A tall, muscled, olive skinned, black haired guy looked at us. His eyes were black. If it wasn't for the fact that he looked absolutely menacing I would have thought he was hot. But fear over road that.
"Seth whats..." Ruby started but stopped when Seth gave another roar and started charging. Ruby pushed me behind her before she started running towards the guy.
I stopped myself from stopping her and remembered she was a super soldier. Incomplete but still one nonetheless.
Ruby dodged a punch and gave Seth a punch in the stomach He didn't even flinch and pushed her over to the side. I saw her fell to the floor then I was grabbed at the throat. My back hit a pole. I gave a yelp of pain as he raised me above his head. His hand gripped tightly around my neck
Ruby slowly got off the floor and started making her way over to us.
I gripped his hand with both of mine trying desperately to get his hand off me. I couldn't breath that well. I looked into his black eyes and he looked into mine. Something flashed in his eyes and his hand let go of my throat.
I slid down the pole and landed on the floor. I grabbed my throat and started coughing. I looked up in time to see Ruby stab Seth in the arm but only slightly as Seth got out of the way. Ruby positioned herself in front of me as Seth gripped his bleeding arm. He shut his eyes and got a pained expression.
I watched as pain went through his face. Eventually it faded and he opened his eyes again. "What happened?" He looked at Ruby and then at me on the floor. "Oh crap did I hurt you?" His voice was husky and a little scratchy. Concern and guild were plain on his face.
"Seth what happened to you?" Ruby asked.
What happened was right. Seth's clothes had blood on them. Not just his shirt from the cut Ruby gave him. But his hands, pants, and shoes had blood patches over them.
He looked over to the side. "Guess I got crazy again...."
Okay so that is what I have. I'm not sure if I should continue that but I just want to know what you guys think. Guess the whole male romance didn't happen this chapter but still. You have met the three main characters! Omega, Ruby, and Seth. Seth and Ruby won't keep those names. They will change next chapter if you guys like this one. Just give me a review and tell me what you think. I'm not certain if I should add this to the list of stories I'm writing or just drop it.
Some reviews would help ^_^.

This has been a Bunny production. Bunnies are evil as all they want is your cookies. Yes I just called myself evil but blah. Turning twenty next month makes me want to be slightly evil @_@.
