Pookie-Boy 3
Curtis
I thought I had blown it. I suppose I expected Pookie Boy to jump into my arms, give me a big hug and a kiss, and say that he'd be happy to move in with me right here and now. I wondered how long he'd take to make up his mind.
I wondered if I'd scared him off by being so upfront on our second date...I wondered if I'd scared him off because I'm much older than he is...I wondered if I'd scared him off because... he doesn't love me. No, I'm sure the feelings are there. I'm no mind reader, but I know that Pookie does love me in his own special way. All I have to work out is how strong his feelings for me are, and if he's willing to take the risk and live with me.
Live with me. Could that be it? Of course, why would a young man in the prime of his life want to live with a cranky, overweight slob like me? What would he tell his friends when they came over? "No this isn't my gramps, he's my lover"? Oh, it's all too difficult to think about. So many thoughts wafting through my old brain.
Deep down, I knew that everything would turn out right. It had to.
"Anything else, sir?" Mitzy startled me. I didn't hear her come up.
"Ummm... another real strong cup of coffee, thanks, Mitzy."
She looked at me for a minute. I suppose she must've seen my anguish. Fortunately, I wasn't crying, well, I didn't think I was...
"May I sit for a minute?" Mitzy asked. That's all I wanted - company when I had so much to work out for myself.
"Sure."
"I didn't mean to eavesdrop, but being the only customers in at this hour, it was difficult not to," she said, reaching out for my hand, putting it in between hers and giving it a rub.
"Don't worry about Pookie. I've known him for years. He just needs time to think things through. I remember the first time he came into the cafe, it took him forever to decide what to order. If choosing his supper was so difficult, can you imagine how difficult it is for him to decide what you're asking him?
"The weeks before he first contacted you, he was miserable. He'd come in here, barely eat anything and walk out as if in a daze. He wouldn't communicate with me - I can tell you that I was scared of what he might do.
"The day after he contacted you, he came in here with a smile as broad as the Mississippi. I asked him what had happened, and he said that he'd met the most wonderful person on the Internet. I know his feelings for you are very strong. Just be careful - he's very fragile."
I thought that Pookie hadn't come out to many people, so I asked Mitzy if she knew the whole story of him being gay.
"Well, he didn't tell me in so many words, but I'm a mother, and mothers can tell. I had a son who was gay. Pookie reminds me so much of my David," she sighed.
"What happened to him?" I asked, realizing why Pookie thought so highly of Mitzy.
"David was very much like Pookie Boy. Unsure of himself, unsure of what he wanted in life. He kept very much to himself, even though I told him that I was fine with his lifestyle. After all, we only have one life to live, so there's no point in poisoning it with hatred, don't you agree?"
I nodded.
"He fell in love with the first man who paid any real attention to him. David was so eager to please, he ended up being controlled by that man. He got involved with drugs, and ended up selling his body each night to pay for his new addiction.
"The last time I saw him, he told me everything. He said that he wanted to stop his habit and come home again. We hugged and cried and until the day I die, I'll regret letting him leave that night. The next time I saw him, he was dead. My baby. The one I'd struggled to bring up all these years on my own." Her voice was cracking as she was fighting back the tears.
"Oh, I'm terrible sorry," I definitely felt tears flowing down my cheeks this time.
"Well, nothing will bring back my David - just you make sure you look after Pookie. I love him like my own. Don't you ever hurt him."
"I love Pookie more than my own life," I said, "I'd rather hurt myself than ever think of harming Pookie."
She walked up to bring me another cup of coffee as I wondered if my coming here was a complete mistake. I also considered the fact that if David was still alive today, he and Pookie just might have been in a relationship and I wouldn't have ever met Pookie. Fate works in strange ways.
Pookie Boy
Upon reaching the front gate of my house, I was only certain of one thing - that was that I wasn't really certain about anything.
I loved Curtis, that was certain, but I wasn't sure if I was ready to take the plunge yet. You know, I felt like a young lady who'd just received a proposal of marriage. I really wanted to say a big fat YES, but there were still many obstacles I had to over come.
I went into the house, Pops was probably already at the bar, Mom was singing in the shower, in preparation for her usual Friday social luncheon.
It was still morning, I'd realized, and I had no plans for the rest of the day. I went into my room, spotting my famous pair of green shorts lying in one corner of the room. They looked sad and disappointed. They wanted to say, "What have you done, you fool? Go back to him. Don't let him go."
Switching on the computer, I decided to check my e-mail and see if Jack was on line. He wasn't (it's a school day, after all!), but I noticed that there were a couple of e-mails for me.
The first was from Mr. Grey:
" Good morning Pookie,
"I'm glad to see you've overcome your greatest fear and shared your love with somebody deserving of it. Please report back about this Curtis fellow. Are we going to meet him on Monday at lunch?
"Yours, Grey"
Fear? That's the first time I'd even considered that I'd not had sex before because I was afraid of it. But why? Could it be because of my encounter with Lucas all those years ago? Could there be another reason lodged deeply in my subconscious of which I'm not aware? To say the truth, I wasn't in the mood to think about it. I was feeling bad and confused enough without having to worry about something else.
I replied:
" Hi there Grey,
"Well, so much has happened over the past 18 hours that I'm really not too sure about anything any more. I met with Curtis this morning. He said that he's moving into town, and asked if I'd move in with him. I don't really know what to do. A part of me really wants to, but another part of me is too afraid. Moving in with him will surely out me to my family and peers and I don't think I can cope with that at the moment.
"Please advise if you can, otherwise, I'll see you on Monday at the usual place at noon."
I noticed there was one other e-mail for me. Alas, it wasn't from Curtis. I wasn't expecting one, but I'd been so used to receiving at least one message from him per day, that it felt like something was missing. The other message was from Jack:
"Hi ya Uncle Pooks
"Clarissa and I are an item! We're gonna do it tonight, coz she's recovered from her abortion. I'll tell ya all about it! We may come over on the weekend to catch up with ya. OK?
"See ya, "Jack"
Oh, that was just what I needed to hear. My 14 year old nephew was able to enter into a relationship, whereas I still felt like an emotional cripple.
I heard Mom walking up the hallway and noticed that I hadn't shut my door. If the door's shut, she respects my privacy, if not, she enters. Oh, now I'll probably get the third degree from her too.
"Lachlan," she entered my room. "What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be at work today?"
"Yes, Mom."
"You don't want them to give you the sack, do you? Remember that it took you a long time to find this position and you don't want to be unemployed again. You might be our baby, but your father and I won't be subsidizing our lazy son, you know."
Mom always knew how to make feel better! Sure, and pigs wearing Superman costumes singing Perry Como, and evergreens are in charge of moving the Earth 'round the sun!
"Come on now, off to work. I have to go to my social club's Friday luncheon for ladies," and with that, she'd left me alone.
Well, I think I got off lightly. Who knows, perhaps she raped Pops in his drunken stupor last night and was in a chirpier mood.
I figured that the worst thing I could do was just sit at home alone, and worry about everything. I decided to go to work instead - that would keep my mind busy.

I had a couple of hours to spare before my appointment with the real estate agent. I left the car back at the motel and decided to do some exploring in my new neighborhood.
The town has its charm, but I also realized there exists a sleazy underworld in the fringes. Unable to get Mitzy's story out of my head, I hoped Pookie won't ever get involved with anything like that. He told me that he'd been offered drugs once, but turned them down. I was so proud of him.
Walking up one of the main streets (they all look the same, so I can't remember which one it was), I saw a couple of furniture shops. I went in and browsed at the merchandise, noticing that I'd need a new bed and dining table, at the very least.
Speaking with the salesman (blond and cute - but no match for my Pookie), he said that I could pay a deposit now and the rest of the money on delivery. That sounded reasonable enough, so I ended up buying a lovely king sized bed, complete with old-style wooden posts. It looked classy, and I thought that Pookie might like it too. I decided to purchase the dining table as well, so the salesman said that he'd offer me a substantial discount on any other item I might require. I decided that a cozy sofa was next on my mental list of priorities. I wrote him a check, and felt relieved that one of the tedious duties of relocation had been dealt with.
On one of the other streets, I saw a florist's shop. There was one arrangement that featured a bunch of flowers with a blue teddy bear. Immediately, Pookie came into my head. I decided to buy the flowers.
"Would you like us to organize an inscription on the card, or perhaps a home delivery?" the elderly shopkeeper asked. I shook my head. I wanted to hand these to Pookie personally.
"They'll last for a couple of weeks in water".
Handing over my cash, I thought about what I'd write in the card. A nice little poem, perhaps? I'm not good at that sort of thing, but I'm certain Pookie would appreciate it anyway.
Pookie, oh where would my Pookie be at this hour? Back at home? Oh, how I prayed he'd get in contact with me soon. I knew that I could easily send him an e-mail, but I believed that he needed some time alone with his thoughts. Besides, I didn't want him to think that I'm just a dirty old man. I struck a deal with myself - I'd deliver the flowers to him tomorrow, if he hadn't e-mailed me by then.
I had made mental notes of where to turn to go back to the motel. Fortunately, I didn't get lost. The estate agent was there, waiting for me. She was early.

The first person I saw at work was my supervisor, Lavender. Well, she prefers to be called our captain. Every know and then, when the hippies have low morale, she'll get us to put on sailor's hats, burn incense and even meditate by the creek next to our work. It's a bit difficult in the middle of Winter, but at least it lifts our spirits and makes our souls happy.
"What are you doing here today, Pookie? I thought you were taking the day off?" she asked.
"Well, I was," I started, "but things didn't quite go to plan, I'm afraid, so I thought I'd come in and catch up on some paperwork." I was feeling tense and uncomfortable and I really didn't want to tell her anything else. Sure, she's a broadminded hippie, but I had too much on my mind as it was.
"OK then, make sure you take it easy," she advised. "Go down to the creek and take some deep breaths if you feel the need."
"Where is everybody?"
"There's a team-bonding exercise today. They've gone tree hugging. I can't go on account of my aching toe."
I nodded and walked over to my work station. Well, it's barely a desk, so I don't know why they'd call it a work station. The so-called desk was made of somebody's old front door. Complete with door handle! It's placed on a pile of bricks and not very steady. My computer throws tantrums every now and then, and it's not very comfortable bumping into a door handle several times a day, either.
As I was shuffling through my in box, seeing several new messages which were taken since the last time I was in, Lavender returned, bringing with her a soothing cup of chamomile tea.
"Thank you," I said as she offered it to me.
"That's fine," she replied. "If you need anything, I'll in the next office."
I smiled as she turned and left me alone.
So much work to do. Where would I start? I tried to prioritize the paperwork in front of me, but in the end I noticed that all I was doing was shuffling and reshuffling.
Where was Curtis at this time? Would he be enjoying his first meal without me in this town? Would he be inspecting his future home? Our future home?
Curtis
"Well, Mr. Finnegan, what did you think of that one?"
I was dumbfounded. Sure, I was picky, but the apartments in the price range I'd considered were smaller than my shoe box, and so disgusting that even the fleas had moved out! It appeared that I'd be spending more than I'd budgeted to live here.
The look on my face said it all.
"I understand," the agent said, "but you won't find anything better for the money you're offering." I took a deep breath and realized that my day was going from bad to worse.
"Of course," she continued, "you can find a much nicer apartment if you don't mind renting it rather than buying it."
Another problem. I had intended on buying a nice, cozy apartment that I'd leave for Pookie when I die. I didn't want him to worry about the rent after I go. I wanted to leave him something as a token of my appreciation, my thanks for bringing a spark into my life.
"There's one other option you could consider," she suggested. "A bank loan."
I shook my head. There was no way I'd leave the burden of a home lean on Pookie. He doesn't earn enough money to cover the bills and a home loan as well. Besides, I didn't think any banks would give a loan to an unemployed 54-year-old.
I knew what I had to do. I was going to have to dig into my savings. The money I'd been tucking away for a rainy day, the money that I'd use once I retired.
You see, I was planning on taking Pookie on a trip overseas - after all, I've not seen my brother Evan in many years, and was keen on seeing a kangaroo. If I work hard enough, I could save the money for the trip, otherwise, we'd just have to watch 'Crocodile Dundee' instead.
Explaining the situation to the agent, brought a smile to her face. "I have just the place for you, then. Beautiful views and close to town."
Pookie-Boy
I was certain that the day was going to be a write off when I realized that I'd accomplished nothing but a mess comprising of several mountains of paper on my desk.
Lavender returned and noticed my lack of productivity.
"Why don't you call it a day, Pookie? There's no point in you being here if we both know your mind is somewhere else."
She was right. I was having enough trouble concentrating, without having to worry about ledgers and debtors.
"Go down the creek and breathe deeply. Become one with your environment. That will help you think clearly."
I decided that she was right. I gave her an agreeing smile, she nodded gently, and I made my way down to the creek.
The creek near work was once an environmental wasteland from all the pollution from decades earlier. Now, thanks to the hippies at work, the area was becoming home to more and more indigenous wildlife. It had trees planted on either side. The water was regaining a more natural color. The litter had disappeared.
The gentle sound of flowing water was very comforting to my soul. I started breathing in deeply. In. Out. Slowly and deeply. I felt all the tension slowly flowing out of my body, dispersing into the surroundings. Tiny droplets of stress were being captured by the trees and converted into positive energy.
I felt empowered. I felt like I had some new energy. Even the gloomy clouds above didn't threaten me. I found myself back on the bus and going into town. I wasn't ready to see Curtis yet, and I wouldn't know where to find him, but I decided I wanted to spend some time with people.
I got off the bus in the center of the city. Wandering up and down the main streets, I was happy that I didn't work in this pollution-ridden area.
"Hey, man, wanna see a show? Only two bucks," said a scruffy-looking man standing outside a sex shop. I shyly turned away and kept walking. I'd been in such places in the past, but not recently.
Let's face it, I was looking forward to turning 18 so I could go into one. The morning after my eighteenth birthday couldn't come fast enough! Sure enough, when I got there, I was disappointed. There was way too much female flesh on show for my liking.
As I heard some thunder roaring overhead, an idea struck me. Those sex shops sell toys. Perhaps I could find some things to share with Curtis.
Curtis
Finally, an apartment I'd happily call home! Not a shoe box and definitely not a flea to be seen for miles. The bedroom window provided a lovely vista away from the city. You could even make out the sea on a clear day, or so I was told.
While we were on the tour of the apartment, the agent was telling me about built-in wardrobes, secure parking and other things. But in my mind, I was planning on where I'd put all my belongings. All I had to do was make a phone call to the movers back home (great guys, I thoroughly recommend them), who'd kindly been storing my belongings, and they would arrive in a couple of days.
The television set would go in this corner, the computer over there. Everything was mapped out in my mind when I happily said: "I want it!!"
The apartment was vacant, I learned. The previous tenant was an elderly lady who was now living in a home. She took great care of the place. I felt that she'd left an aura of love behind (Now I'm starting to sound like Pookie! Oh, he's had such an effect on me!).
I could move within the week, as long as the paperwork and the formalities were finalized. Just think, in one week, I could be living here with Pookie...
After writing her a hefty check for the deposit, I rushed out and called my financial organizer. I explained the situation, and he said that he'd do his best to have the money in my account on Monday morning.
I had a job and roof over my head. Only one thing was missing: Pookie-Boy...
Pookie-Boy
I took a long time in the shop, just browsing. Well, I like to think it was because it was raining outside and I didn't want to walk several blocks to the bus stop in all this rain.
I ended up going to the cashier with several accessories. I wasn't too sure of what some of them were supposed to do, but I was adventurous and willing to try most things. I only hoped Curtis felt the same way.
Anyway, I almost flipped when I the total cost came to nearly two hundred dollars! Great, Pookie, people are dying of starvation in other parts of the planet, and you're spending your money on sex toys! Well, it's been a long time since I'd spent much money on myself, so I tried not to feel too bad.
I must've given the cashier a bit of a sour look when I saw the amount.
"Look," he said, "I'll give you a free voucher to the lounge upstairs, okay?"
That sounded fine by me. It was still pouring outside, so the more time I could spend indoors was fine by me. Besides, I wasn't keen on going home to an empty e-mail in box.
I didn't know what to expect in the lounge. Probably just a sitting room or something. I gave him my Visa card, the transaction was processed swiftly. "You might want to leave your goodies down here. They'll be safe with me," he smiled.
I thought it would be OK. I took note of his name though, just in case.
He pointed me up the stairs, and I was on my way. To what? I had no idea. It was becoming more and more dark. I could hear muffled, sleazy pop music coming from somewhere. I suppose I should've been nervous, but I simply didn't know what to expect.
At the top of the staircase was a dark curtain. I pulled it to one Side, and entered the semi-dark room. It took a while for my eyes to adjust. The first thing I saw was a large video projector, screening some cheaply made porno film. The actors on the screen looked cute but bored.
My eyes were glued on the action on the screen (I wondered how the tall dude accommodated the shorter dude's lengthy pole down his throat without choking), so I didn't see where I was setting myself down. When I felt somebody's erection on my bottom, I concluded that the seat wasn't free.
"Sorry," I mumbled.
"No worries," said a husky-toned man. "I'd be happier if it wasn't an accident."
I just smiled and sat beside him. It was too dark to make out his finer features. I noticed that he was balding and was wearing a suit and a bow tie. Just a business man taking the afternoon off?
Just as the stars on the screen were shooting off on each other, Mr. Bow-tie turned to me and said: "That was hot, don't you think?"
I nodded, without looking at him. My eyes were still transfixed on the screen. A new couple appeared. They were about my age, one was a lanky blond, the other one was a slightly hairier fellow with jet-black hair. He looked familiar. Hey, Pookie, it's unlikely that you've ever seen him. This film was probably not shot locally. Anyway, he's not, like, one of the hippies at work!
The next thing I felt was a hand. Instinctively, I tensed. I still didn't feel comfortable with people touching me. It was Mr. Bow-tie's hand. It was slowly guiding my hand to his lap. He'd unzipped himself and placed my hand on his throbbing hardness. It was a bit of a surprise, but not unexpected, I suppose. I felt uneasy. Who knows how may other people were there, and who else could see us now?
I thought of jumping up and running out, but another part of me wanted to sit and make the most of the situation. After all, I'd only discovered sex last night. Last night I was nervous. This afternoon, with the action on the screen, I was in the mood for anything.
My hand started moving up and down with a slow rhythm. I thought of Curtis and last night, imagining him being here beside me, rather than this anonymous stranger. My mind was going through a mental photo album, trying to figure out who the dude on the screen was. Just as the hot dude on the screen was feeding his love organ to his partner, I felt Mr. Bow-tie's hand on my head. "Please suck me. I'm so hot, I don't know how much more I can take," he whispered.
I hesitated for a minute to consider the situation. What if Curtis came in right now? What would he think? Would he love me any less? I felt guilty, but my instincts pulled me in another direction.
I crouched down to the floor and brought my head within a couple of inches of his short but thick meat. I could smell it. It had a rather pungent odor, nothing like Curtis' sweet smelling incense stick (it's thin and long - but not as thin as an incense stick!!) Suddenly, like a patient coming out of a coma, I realized what I was about to do. Pookie, you slut! How dare you? I was about to pull away when I felt his hot juice splatter all over my face. He let out a low moan, quickly zipped himself up and walked out, muttering "Thanks".
I was stunned. That was it? What had I just done? Pulling a tissue out of my trouser pocket and wiping off the mess as best I could, it had struck me that I'd almost had sex with somebody I didn't love. A complete stranger I didn't know. A numbness came over my body. I thought I was going to start hyperventilating, so I sat back in my seat to recover.
The action on the screen was gaining momentum. The hot dude seemed to be sucking the life out of the blond. I wondered if they were a real couple, or just having sex without loving each other. In the back of my mind, I knew that they were only doing it for the money.
The camera zoomed in, to an extreme close up of the hot dude's face. He was sucking away like there was no tomorrow, staring directly into the camera with his brown eyes. Deep brown eyes. Hypnotic. That's it! It was Lucas! I was certain!
Now I was more confused than ever. My relationship with Curtis, my encounter with Mr. Bow-tie and now Lucas?
I rushed out of the lounge and tried running down the stairs as quickly as I could without tripping. It took me a few seconds to adjust to the light in the well-lit shop.
I walked up to the counter, where the same man had just finished serving a young couple.
"Had a good time, I see," he smiled. I didn't know what he meant, but I did know that I wanted to get out of there as soon as I could. I also asked about the video that was playing upstairs.
"Oh, that's a new one. It's called 'Suck Me Tender, Dude'. You want a copy?"
Nodding, I pulled out my credit card and gave it to him. I don't own a TV, let alone a VCR, but I know that Curtis has a collection of X- rated videos. The transaction complete, I took my brown-paper packages and flew out of the shop.
It was still raining outside, but at a gentler pace. I ran to the bus stop. I was lucky that I'd caught the bus as it was about to leave the station. The bus driver gave me a funny look, probably because I disrupted his schedule. I sat near the back and spent the whole trip home staring out the window, not noticing who was coming or going. I knew none of them would be Curtis. Passing by Curtis' motel, I let out a gentle sigh. Was I ready to risk everything for the love of Curtis?
It was almost dark by the time I got home, on account of the gloomy clouds. I put my purchases in my room before going into the kitchen to fix myself some dinner.
Mom and Pops were both there. As I started preparing the tofu for my stir fry, mother turned to me.
"What on earth have you been doing, Lachlan?" she shouted.
"Shut up, woman," Pops said. "I have a head ache and am not in the mood for your whining."
"No, look at him," she told my father.
He came up and stared at me for a while. I wasn't too sure of what was going on, but knew something was up when I felt his firm index finger jabbing at my chest.
"Where have you been, Lachlan?" he asked. "And with who?"
What is this? I thought to myself. What have I done this time? Have they been following me or something? God, imagine if Pops was at the lounge this afternoon!
Mom handed me the small mirror she carries in her hand bag.
"Just take a look at yourself," she said. I could tell that she was angry at something. In fact, I'd not seen her this upset since she heard that I wasn't accepted into college because of my grades.
I looked into the mirror and was horrified.
One thick glob of cum was hanging off my cheek.
more to come...
