Part Three
"Yeah, go ahead and use any Pokemon you want."
Ash, Brock, and Dawn were in front of a PC, Brock already on the phone with one of his little sisters. Reece answered Brock's question, and Brock talked into the screen. "Neela, could you send Steelix over then?"
The girl nodded, and placed a pokeball into a transmitter. "Alright, big bro, whenever you're ready."
Kai reached over and pressed a series of buttons on the control pad. A flash of light later, and a pokeball appeared in the receiver pad, which Kai handed to Brock. "Thanks, Neela. I'll talk to you soon, okay?" She gave her farewell, and the screen turned black.
Kai looked over to Ash. "Do you want to withdraw anyone?" Ash looked at Kai intently. His hair and eyes were back to their normal, inconspicuous colors. He had a hard time imagining that just last night they were so prismatic.
"Yeah, I think I will." He phoned up Professor Oak, and waited briefly as the operator again connected to Kanto. The screen lit up, and Professor Oak's silver hair and familiar white lab coat appeared.
"Ash! Why the call? Aren't you in Sinnoh right now?" Oak inquired over the phone.
"Yeah, Professor Oak. But someone wants to battle with me, and I wanna use someone who I know I can trust. Could you send Sceptile over, please?"
Oak rummaged through a nearby file cabinet, quietly murmuring to himself. "Sceptile...Sceptile... Ah, yes he's right here. By the way, your pokemon have missed you dearly. When you call again, I'll bring them out, alright?"
Ash laughed. "Yeah, I'd like that! Thanks." Another flash, and Kai handed Ash Sceptile's pokeball. "I'll talk to you soon, Professor!"
"Bye Ash."
The screen went dark. Kai and Reece looked at each other, and then at Brock and Ash. "So. Shall we do it out front?"
It was the empty clearing in front of the fence of their house. Reece and Kai stood evenly spaced on one side, Brock and Ash opposite to them. Dawn stood at the middle by the door, Pikachu now perched on her shoulder. She sighed, and softly talked to Pikachu. "I hope I get to do something soon."
Pikachu nodded. "Pika~."
Kai laughed as the sun struck his face. "Ash, Brock, I really like you! But don't think that'll make us go easy on you!" He looked to Reece, who gave a quick thumbs up and a full-teethed smile.
Brock piped up as well. "Good luck, then. We might have to go easy on YOU!"
Reece laughed out loud. "Then may the best team win!"
There was a brief silence. Reece gave a slow, deep hum first, and the space rippled in front of him. Gallade, stepped out, blades shining, eyes piercing red. Ash realized, staring into his eyes, that they were the same color that Kai's were last night. "Go, Gallade!" Gallade crossed his arms, and let them loose, a furious display of his might.
Kai opened his mouth, a smooth treble hum escaping from his lips. Space opened now, and Gardevoir spun out of it, her hair flowing tresses, and her arms dropping from the sky. Her liquid-like dress flew to a halt. "Come, Gardevoir!" She turned to her left, facing Gallade. The two gave a knowing look, and a bond was made between them. Similarly, Kai turned to an already staring Reece, and they smiled at each other. They were ready.
Ash stared at their display of trust, especially noting Reece's infatuation. He turned his hat around, and reached for his pokeball. "I choose you! Sceptile!" The ball came flying out of his hand, and the familiar beam of light erupted into Sceptile's sillhouette. "Scept!" Sceptile scratched his head and stretched his neck, quickly fetching a stick to place squarely in his mouth. He turned around, and gave a nod of acknowledgment to Ash.
"Steelix!" An explosion of light; the hulk of serpentine metal appeared before their eyes, taking up half the battlefield. He let out a brief snort. His piercing red eyes surveyed the crowd. Gallade and Gardevoir were unharrowed.
Dawn let loose a red flag (which she had from one of her contests). "Kai and Reece versus Brock and Ash. Winner is team who can successfully knock out both pokemon on other team. It will be only two pokemon versus two pokemon, one from each respective participant. Ready..." She counted down in her head. The two teams stared each other down, the pokemon ready to make their moves. "Fight!"
"Sceptile, Bullet Seed!" Ash got in the first command, as Sceptile responded with utter haste. A spray of fiery seeds shot out of Sceptile's mouth.
Brock followed in quick succession, prompted by Ash's preemptive strike. "Steelix, use Dragonbreath!" Steelix breathed in with a frightening growl, and Dawn grabbed Pikachu close to her. A blue plume of fire flew out of Steelix's open jaws. The furious seeds and tongues of heat burst out at Gallade and Gardevoir, but neither had even vague signs of flinching. Kai lifted his head, and spoke evenly and icily.
"Reflect." Gardevoir's eyes lit up blue, her arms raised. A wall of shining light arose before her and Gallade, its incandescence briefly causing Ash and Brock to avert their eyes as both Sceptile's seeds and Steelix's breath hit the barrier. The smoke cleared.
Gardevoir and Gallade were untouched behind Gardevoir's Reflect. Ash's jaw dropped in synchronicity with Brock's. Kai smiled and cocked his head, and Gardevoir let down her arms, her Reflect diffusing into the air.
Reece took the open opportunity. "Gallade, Double Team!" Gallade's bladed arms crossed, and eyes closed; by the time he opened them, ten clones of Gallade appeared in thin air, uncrossing their arms in perfect duplicity. Reece followed it up: "Now, Teleport!" Their clones each vanished in the blink of an eye, and before Ash knew it, there was a clone on every side of Sceptile.
Ash gasped in disbelief, as did Brock and Dawn. Ash quickly recovered, and returned with more determination. "Sceptile, don't fall for it! Only one of them is real!" Sceptile eyed each of the mirror images closely, even his probing eyes unable to discern the true Gallade.
Brock didn't keep watching for long. "Steelix, use Iron Tail to clear away some of those clones!" Steelix let out a terrible cry like a monstrous hulk of metal being torn to pieces. His tail grew aglow with a bright light, and he swung it with great force at Sceptile.
Ash smiled. "Sceptile, jump out of the way!" Sceptile easily complied, his gymnastic body pouncing off the ground and expertly onto Steelix's head.
But Reece still wasn't thwarted. "Gallade, Teleport again." Gallade's clones vanished again, narrowly missing the hulk of steel that was about to crash down on them. A cloud of dust and a storm of rocks flew upwards from Steelix's blow, as the clones reappeared, in the air above Steelix and Sceptile.
The Gallades' fall was only temporary. Kai chimed in, clearly and smoothly commanding Gardevoir, whom this whole time was serenely watching from her place. "Gardevoir, use Psychic to suspend Gallade and his clones."
Gardevoir's eyes glowed blue again, and this time her hands came up to her temples; Gallade's copies were surrounded with an ethereal blue light, and they were gently suspended in place, surrounding a befuddled Sceptile perched on Steelix's head.
Brock piped up. "Steelix, use Dragon Breath!"
Ash joined in as well, eager to get rid of the menacing Gallades. "And Sceptile, use your Bullet Seed! Destroy all the clones!"
Steelix raised his head so his eyes met Gallade's, and out spurt the blue flames again; Sceptile, grabbing hold to Steelix's head, shot seeds with sniper-esque accuracy. One duplicate vanished, then another and another, succumbing to the fiery attack. Still, Gardevoir's Psychic swung many of them out of the way of the onslaught, and five were still left, skillfully eluding the chaos.
It was time to strike. Reece spoke with furious coordination. "Gallade, now! Attack with Psycho Cut!" Each clone's blades lit up bright pink, and were greeted with an aggressive grunt from each Gallade. They were thrust at Sceptile like he were the middle of a crosshairs, and both Sceptile and Steelix felt a burning cut that seemed to have been multiplied by each dopple-ganger that attacked. Ash clenched his teeth; Sceptile was still standing strong on Steelix's head, but he was obviously shaken up. Reece was relentless. "Again! This time use Night Slash!" The Gallades' blades shone black like the night, and they were thrust at the two again; this time slashing more at Steelix's head as well. Steelix let out a cry, but still stood strong.
Sceptile, however, put up a fight. Ash responded right after Reece's command. "Sceptile, counter with Leaf Blade!" Sceptile's arm leaves sharpened and glew emerald green, and he spun with primal strength. "Scept!!~" His blade met Gallade's, and as luck had had it, he had matched blades with the real Gallade. The other clones finished their strike on Steelix, and vanished without a trace. Gallade and Sceptile locked attacks, but disengaged with a kick from Gallade; he floated back, sharpening his arms and ready for more. Sceptile was more than amused, and cracked his neck in excitement.
Brock's eyes squinted in frustration, and then widened in realization after looking down at Gardevoir, lost in her concentration. "Steelix, change of plans! Use Rock Slide on Gardevoir!"
Steelix looked behind itself, and dug his tail into the ground. He flicked it out, a dozen large rocks flung in the direction of a vulnerable Gardevoir. Reece cried out, a look of panic on his face. "No!!!"
Gallade looked behind him, seeing the rocks endangering Gardevoir. With no command issued to him, he Teleported in front of her, arms outstretched and ready to protect her. But Kai acted quickly. "Gardevoir, Psychic, on the rocks." he commanded. Gardevoir sent out another pulse of power, and just before they hit Gallade, the rocks stopped in midair. "Send them back." The rocks glowed blue, and were hurled back at Steelix, breaking after making high speed contact with his metal head. Steelix remained unfazed, and Sceptile fended off rocks with his Leaf Blade.
Gardevoir's eyes returned to normal, and Kai sighed, giving a quick smile to Reece. Reece playfully winked back, and returned to the battle. "Gallade, throw Psycho Cuts at Steelix and Sceptile!" Gallade's arms lit up pink again, and he slashed at the air. "Gall~ade!!" Bright pink spears of light were flung from his arms, striking Steelix's head and giving Sceptile a handful.
Ash continued issuing commands. "C'mon Sceptile, you're doing great! Just keep reflecting those Psycho Cuts with your Leaf Blade!" Sceptile didn't do anything in acknowledgment, continuing to defend himself.
Steelix however, was beginning to falter; his units of metal were beginning to shake, and Brock noticed this. "Steelix, you can do it! Hang in there, and use Dragon Breath!" Steelix breathed in again, and shot fire at Gallade. Instinctively, Gardevoir raised up a Reflect, and his Dragon Breath was easily deflected. As soon as the flames stopped and the shield retracted, Gallade's barrage continued, even more mercilessly.
Kai noticed Steelix's faltering Dragon Breath, and surmised his weakening state. He waved a hand in the air. "Alright, here's the secret weapon, you guys!" Ash and Brock gave each other a worried glance, and Dawn held Pikachu tighter to her, both of them captivated by the battle. "Gardevoir, it's time- use Petal Dance on Steelix!"
They all gasped. How could a Gardevoir know Petal Dance? Gallade jumped away, skillfully gamboling behind Gardevoir. Gardevoir, arms oustretched, spun in a graceful pirrouette, as iridescent petals fluttered around her in a spiral. She waved her arms into the air, the whorl of petals now turning into a swarm, as they seemed to multiply in the air; an entire cyclone of them enveloped Gardevoir, her twirling dance manipulating the storm.
Finally, she pushed her hands together. The petals burst away from her, and now twirled around Steelix. They curled around his serpentine body, pummeling him with chaotic rapidity that he simply couldn't keep up with. He roared and shook his head in confusion and anger with Sceptile barely hanging on. Gardevoir continued the steps in the ground, her elegant dress and tresses of hair weightless in an invisible wind, and only serving to greaten the beautiful monstrosity of petals. Reece shouted over the commotion. "Gallade, climb up Steelix's back!"
Gallade quickly ran behind Steelix, who was too engaged in the storm to defend himself. He gracefully stepped on each of Steelix's metal vertebrae, as easily as if they were stepping stones. He reached the back of his head, behind Sceptile. But Ash, whose sight was obscured by the petals, couldn't see a thing. Reece yelled out: "Finish Steelix off with a Night Slash!"
A flash of pitch-black could be seen in the storm, and the sound of metal being crunched. Steelix let out a sorrowful cry, and his piercing red eyes closed; his hulk of a body began to slowly plummet, as the cloud of petals began to float down as well. The sound was monstrous: like a crane collapsing. Gallade jumped down from his high and mighty perch, and Sceptile waited for Steelix's head to collapse on the ground, a cloud of dust whipped up into everyone's eyes. He jumped off with a flip in the air, and tactfully landed on a rock. Dawn stood up, still astounded by the sight. "...St-Steelix has fainted. Match is now Sceptile versus Gardevoir and Gallade."
Brock hung his head and cursed under his breath. He took out Steelix's pokeball; "Steelix, return." He flashed red and was encapsulated in a ray of crimson light, retracted into the familiar pokeball. Brock put his chin to the pokeball. "...You did great, Steelix."
Ash turned to Brock. "Hey, don't worry Brock! I still got this!"
Brock smiled. "Yeah... yeah, you can do it, Ash!"
Ash wasted no time, as Gallade was still battle-ready, and Gardervoir was prepared as well. "Sceptile, throw Leaf Blades at Gallade!" Sceptile's arms now lit up green, and he threw a barrage of razor-sharp leaves at Gallade.
"Gallade, deflect them with Psycho Cut!" It was Gallade's turn now, slashing the swarm of leaves in a coordinated dance. Still, Sceptile wouldn't relent.
Kai yelled out to Gardevoir. "Gardevoir, use Psychic. Send those leaves back at Sceptile." The emerald leaves froze in place, on cue from Gardevoir's hands. She sent out a wave of power, and the leaves shot back at Sceptile, faster than before. Sceptile quickly jumped out of the way, as Ash commanded him in turn. "Sceptile, use Agility!"
Sceptile moved like a flash, skillfuly strafing out of the way. But Gardevoir wasn't easily fooled; the leaves chased Sceptile around the field, a blur of green chasing another blur of green.
Ash knew that Sceptile couldn't keep up Agility forever. Then, he had an idea. "Sceptile, slow down a little, you'll get tired!" Sceptile slowed slightly, still blurry with haste, but only barely evading the Psychic leaves. They trailed him only by an inch; just what Ash needed. "Now, use Agility at Gallade!" The quickster on the field turned towards Gallade, who before he could do anything, was pummeled in the gut by Sceptile. He retaliated with a slash in the air. But the leaves followed Sceptile's wake: as Sceptile ducked under him, they ran into Gallade. He squinted from the pain, and Ash noticed Reece's face cringe as well.
Kai gasped. Reece turned to him, and let out another smile. "Hey, it's all good..." Kai gave a Ôlook,' and turned back to the battle. Gardevoir's eyes were upturned in regret, but Gallade was still standing tall. Sceptile stood his ground, one hand on the earth and beginning to breathe heavily from the strain of Agility. "Alright, Gallade, this is it. Psycho Cut! Night Slash! Use Teleport and engage Sceptile!"
One of Gallade's hands turned pink, as the other turned black- before Sceptile could recover, Gallade apparated in front of him, and slashed in an "X". Ash responded. "Sceptile, Leaf Blade! Quick!" Sceptile put up one arm, deflecting Gallade's Night Slash, but succumbing to his Psycho Cut. A slash appeared on his shoulder, but Sceptile returned stronger than ever, taking advantage of Gallade's close quarters and now open stance. "Spray Bullet Seed at Gallade!"
Sceptile complied, and a shower of fiery bullets flew into Gallade's face; too close to be blocked by Gardevoir. Gallade averted his eyes and attempted to block, but was head-on pummeled by the Bullet Seed. He flew backwards and let out a cry of pain. Ash saw it for sure. Reece gripped his gut in pain, and Kai had a look of panic on his face. Still, Ash had gone too far to stop. "Sceptile, Energy Ball!" A green sphere of light quickly accumlated between his palms, and he shot it at Gallade, still in the air; it hit straight on, and he was down on the ground.
Reece was heavily sweating and panting now, and Gallade was almost done for. Ash decided to finish it. "This is it, Sceptile! Finish him off with Leaf Blade!"
His arms shone emerald, as Sceptile prepared for the final blow; he flew up in the air. Kai cried out. "Gardevoir, Thunderbolt!"
Gardevoir's entire body fluttered in a furious wind, as it sputtered with electricity. She pointed her arms at Sceptile, and a scintillating bolt of lightning flew out at him, hitting him straight in the chest and electrocuting him on the spot. He fell to the ground, ragged but still breathing.
Gardevoir floated in front of Gallade's body, determined in her stance. Kai looked to Reece, who was still recovering, and then to Ash, who was dumbstruck by Gardevoir's surprising moveset. "Sc-Sceptile... Energy Ball, at Gardevoir!"
Sceptile did not hesitate, and hurled an Energy Ball at Gardevoir. "Psychic!" Almost automatically, Gardevoir took a hold of the Energy Ball and roundhoused it back towards Sceptile. He easily dodged into the air, and it diffused into the ground.
"Now, Sceptile, Leaf Blade!: He swung a keen green edge down at Gardevoir.
"Reflect!" Gardevoir threw up a shield above her, and it met the Leaf Blade in perfect synchronicity. Sceptile went flying back in recoil, and Gardevoir's Reflect shattered into countless luminous sharp pieces that floated towards the ground. Kai smiled. "Perfect. Gardevoir, get ready to finish this match! Use Psychic to suspend those pieces of your Reflect."
Gardevoir's eyes proceeded to light up again, as the glowing pieces froze in midair like a still life. Ash didn't know what Kai was planning, but he didn't want to know. "Sceptile, Bullet Seed!" A million bullets shot at Gardevoir, but Ash was more stunned as a million shards of Reflect met each and every one of them, slicing them before they could reach Gardevoir.
The manipulation was effortless for Gardevoir, and she merely stood in place. "Now... Petal Dance! Weave the shards into your dance, Gardevoir!" She began the fervored dance again, this time in the direction of Sceptile.
Incandescent knives of light danced in a spiral at Sceptile, joined by a storm of petals. Ash panicked. "Sceptile! Use Agility, just dodge her dance!"
But he could barely keep up with it. The petals grew more numerous and the pieces of lighted glass more extravagant, moving with Gardevoir's growing motions and covering nearly every acre that Sceptile crossed. He jumped left then up then down then back and every which other direction that was offered; but Gardevoir's dance found him. Kai called out again. "Gardevoir, concentrate! Zap Sceptile out of his Agility with a whip of Thunderbolt!"
She complied; for one single second, her dance froze. For one second, the petals stopped in air along with the light. And in that one second, Sceptile froze as well, not sure what to do. It was a fatal mistake. Sensing this momentary weakness, Gardevoir lashed out with her psyche, a flail of thunder slashing out of her arm and immobilizing Sceptile with a flash of white noise. He cried out; it was over. Gardevoir's dance restarted stronger than ever, as Sceptile was pummeled in a blizzard of lights and petals, all part of the hurricane that spun around Gardevoir's deadly pirrouette.
As the petals fell to the ground and Reflect diffused into the air, Sceptile lay on the ground, obviously fainted. Ash merely stood, mouth completely to the ground. Brock rubbed his eyes. Kai, now spent, ran over to Reece's side, who was still in some sort of pain. Gardevoir mirrored, gliding to Gallade's side. Dawn stood up, not sure if she should speak. "...Sceptile has fainted. Kai and Reece are the winners."
============
"Fun" Fact for Fans!: "Amethyst Rose" is actually my pseudonym. However, I had chosen this pseudonym after I began writing Pokemon Amethyst (I called it Amethyst in the same vein as ruby, sapphire, diamond, etc.). It turns out that I had unconsciously chosen "Amethyst" both for my pseudonym and the story, which is really kinda interesting: I didn't realize this until like, last week :D. In other words, I didn't actually intend to name my story after my pen name O.o.
Greetings and salutations!
Yeah, it's been a while since the last update... I'm really sorry about that, I'm just terrible at updating. But I haven't forgotten any of my stories! No sir! I've always wanted to do a chapter that was just action, and... well, this is it. Hope it wasn't too out of the left field :).
Thanks for reading!
