Previous Chapter: Werner's irritation at himself not remembering his past took to a new low as he found himself not wanting to be around Ryan as he had no memory of him. He also started to believe Franzette's lies that they had a secret relationship, and worse, got aroused by her and kissed her. He had a flashback when he remembered that he preferred Lemon flavoured Iced Tea over Peach. When Ryan found out that Werner and Franzette were dating, he confronted her and by accident, he revealed the truth to her, that he and Werner was gay and in a relationship before Werner's accident. Franzette blackmailed Ryan, stopping him from telling Werner the truth, threatening to tell the whole school and their neighbourhood that they were gay. Ryan begged Werner not to go out with Franzette, however, Werner told him that he could not remember their time as best friends at all, and that perhaps it was best that way. Later that night however, as Werner kissed Franzette, he got a second flashback of someone else, NOT Franzette, kissing him, so passionately and lovingly. Now Werner is on a mission to find out who it was...but he would NEVER expect it to be Ryan!! Will Werner remember more?? Read on!*
Chapter 4
Werner Cleverley was twisting and turning in his bed. He was having a crazy ass dream about building blocks and smallish cars running past him. He couldn't move to get away. There where he was laying on his bed, the sweat started to drip from his brow. His face was full of agony and confusion. In his dream, he saw a little boy running up and down kicking a soccer ball from left to right. Suddenly that little boy tripped over his shoes and fell to the ground, starting to scream loudly from the pain. Werner desperately wanted to run over to the child and help him up to his feet, but he couldn't fucking move! Just then he saw another little boy running towards the one on the ground. He kneeled beside him and inspected the wound on the boy's leg, which was bleeding, but not too much. The two boys spoke to eachother, but Werner couldn't make out what the hell they were saying. He had no idea why this scene intrigued him like this. He didn't recognise either of the boys. The one who came to the other's rescue held out his pinky finger to the other, where the latter's own pinky joined his...and this time, Werner could clearly hear what was being said...
"FRIENDS FOREVER"
Werner woke up from his dream with a slight moan at the back of his throat. He was out of breath and ran to his ensuite bathroom and spilled water all over his face. He looked upwards into the mirror which was situated above the basin. This was the face he had looked into ever since he woke up. This boy's name was Werner Cleverley. He had a father, a mother who ran away, apparantly because she was the reason he got run over. He knew that he had been in a accident with a Mercedes, and that he had Amnesia due to that. He also now know that what Franzette Volhanten had told him, was a complete and utter lie.
Last night, when he kissed her...that extreme flashback he got in his brain of SOMEONE else kissing him, with so much love and tenderness...that was not Franzette. She told him that the two of them had been in a secret relationship since she was not concidered one of the popular kids at school and that they wanted to keep it under raps for Werner's sake, who, due to numerous sports he played, was the complete opposite. Werner shook his head. THAT kiss he was relieving each and every second, that was NOT Franzette kissing him. He could tell the difference between the two immediately. The only person who could possibely know anything about who kissed him like that...was Ryan. He was his best friend...well...not quite anymore. Werner had tried his best to rekindle his friendship with Ryan...but is was extremely difficult since he didn't know Ryan, he couldn't remember him at all! He had been tough on Ryan these past couple of days, but it was because of the frustration at not being able to recognise anything or anyone! As Werner layed down in his bed yet again and closed the covers over him, he vowed to make things right with Ryan the next day. He HAD to find that girl who kissed him like THAT...
Ryan's food was getting cold as it watched him staring at the ceiling. He closed his eyes and relived Werner telling him that it was perhaps for the best that he couldn't remember him. And that Franzette...she had him exactly where she wanted him. Their neighbourhood was FULL of homophobes, exactly why himself and Werner could never come out to others before. Ryan stood up and dumped his breakfast into the trash. He would throw up if he ate anything. Last night Werner...his Werner...went on a date with Franzette. They most probably had sex afterwards. He was realistic enough to believe it was a definite possiblility. He casted his mind back just over four months ago, the day of Werner's 17th birthday...
"Oh Ryan...dude you didn't have to get me anything!"
"I know you said that, but I wanted to. Here, open it up!"
Werner tore that small package open as quick as he could, and stared at it in sheer disbelief before his eyes were diverted back to Ryan.
"What's this, dude? Please don't tell me..."
"Open it."
Werner's eyes widened as he saw the ring that was hiding inside the small box. He opened it up and pulled the ring from it. It was one of those street vendor plastic rings that you could buy cheaply. Ryan quickly took the ring and grabbed Ryan's pinky finger. Gently, he placed the ring over the finger, right down to where it joined the palm. It was a perfect fit.
"You remember the day we met, bro? The day you fell in the park and I helped you home?"
Werner's eyes were watering as he watched the plastic ring glimmer in the sunlight.
"I'll never forget it, dude. Friends forever..."
"Friends forever."
Werner grabbed Ryan and pulled him towards his body and attacked his lips with sheer vigor. Ryan ran his fingers through Werner's gelled hair, wanting him closer to him. Werner finally released the kiss and leaned his forehead on Ryan's, breathing heavily.
"Oh man bro...I love you. Screw the world. You're my heart, my soul, my fucking everything. I'd die if I would lose you..."
"You won't, buddy. You're stuck with me for life. God, I love you too..."
Ryan opened his eyes from where he was relieving that moment. He suddenly got up and ran to wall, his fists pumped.
"FUCK THIS!!!" he screamed before punching the wall with everything he had. He didn't even feel his knuckles cracking underneath the pain and hurt he felt. It was Werner who said he'd die if he would lose Ryan...now Ryan felt the same. For the first time in his life Ryan wondered if it wasn't better just ending his life. He sunked down to the ground with his head in his hands. Others would perhaps say: "There are other boys too!" But as Ryan felt the tears rolling down his eyes, he knew that there would always be only one "special person" for him. Werner FUCKING Cleverley.
The moment Franzette saw Werner on their porch, she knew that something was wrong. Oh my gosh...did he perhaps get his memory back?? Well...she was ready for if and when that happened. She would just continue to blackmail Werner with the info she had about the latter and Ryan being gay. She KNEW how the town and the school's pupils would react. They would turn on both of them. Since her "relationship" with Werner was made public, she had been invited over to loads of girl's houses...rich girls, girls with status in the school, to join them for shopping and for lunch! She NEVER thought she would be one of THEM. But her being Werner's girlfriend had brought her all this. LIKE HELL she was giving all of this up.
"Hey baby, what's up?" she said with a sweet smile.
"Can we talk, please? It's kinda urgent."
"Sure, my mom is at work. Come on in."
Werner entered the house and walked straight to the living room. He wasn't in the mood for games at all.
"Look Franzette, last night was wonderful. I really, truely enjoyed myself...until I kissed you."
"Okay...I'm sorry if I was bad...uhm...you always had joked with me about my bad kissing..." Franzette continued to lie.
"You see, that may be true. But the moment I kissed you, I got another flashback, you know like the other night with the Iced Tea? I felt a kiss, one with so much love and passion, one who gave me the feeling that whoever it was...that person LOVED me. Im not just talking or bragging or shit, I know because I could FEEL that person's love through the kiss."
"Oh baby, Im so glad, you're finally beginning to remember what we had!"
"No, Franzette. Our kiss, and the one I relieved last night was two totally different kisses. That only tells me one of two things. One...I was perhaps cheating on you with another girl that I really loved. Two...and this is where Im hoping its not true...you have been lying to me this whole entire time."
Franzette, even with the info she wanted to blackmail both Werner and Ryan with, was now scared. What the hell should she do??? This kiss he was talking about...it obviously came from Ryan!! But since Werner had amnesia and had NO idea he was gay, he thought it was another girl! Okay...here goes nothing...
"You were cheating on me?? You TOLD me that you didn't care about me not being in your league at school!! If you weren't run over by that car, I still would not have known! How COULD you??"
Franzette was giving a Oscar winning drama performance right now but she couldn't care less.
"Im sorry, Franzette, okay? I cannot fucking remember ANYTHING! It sounds as if I maybe did cheat on you. And if I did, im sorry! Come here..."
And as Werner enveloped Franzette in his arms, she smiled sneakily. Another masterclass from her side! Now poor Werner will search far and wide for the GIRL who kissed him that THAT...while NEVER knowing it was actually another boy. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
When Werner came home later that same afternoon, he saw a total stranger sitting in the kitchen with his father. They each had a cup of coffee in their hands.
"Hey buddy!! Damn I missed you!" the stranger said as he fiercely embraced Werner, who was quite frankly to shocked to react. When the stranger finally freed him, he looked into Werner's eyes. There was no recognition whatsoever. He looked questioningly at Jacob Cleverley, who sadly nodded.
"Oh my word...you don't know who the hell I am...do you?" the man said, with such sadness and disbelief that Werner's heart was aching for him.
"I'm...I'm sorry...dude..." Werner said, his voice breaking at this sight.
"Werner, this man before you is your brother, Cameron. He is home for the Christmas holidays. He's studying Sports Science at College," Jacob told his son, before downing his coffee and quietly leaving the two boys to talk. This was getting to him aswell. He prayed that Werner would remember SOMETHING soon. He didn't know how much more of this he could take.
"Jeez bro...Okay now I know you don't remember me, but I am your brother. And I love you, little dude. Things are gonna work out, okay?"
"Uhm...Cameron, was it? I don't know about that. Gosh, you look just like me."
"I know right? At least the humor is still intact! Im gonna get a couple of things and tonight Im treating you and Dad to a real South African braai (barbeque). Ribs, steaks, chops, potato salad, the works! We can talk then, okay?"
"Sounds good...bro."
Cameron placed his hand on Werner's shoulder and kissed his forehead before leaving the house. He angrily wiped away a few tears when he entered his car. This is was his little bro...that looked at him like a fucking STRANGER! Dear God in heaven, please help Werner to remember!
Werner looked around in his room. There had to be something, some where that would tell him who that kiss came from. It was fucking driving him NUTS! He started with his cupboards, his chest of draws, his desk, everything and everywhere he could possibly think of. There was just nothing that remotely did anything to help him remember. This was now or never, he thought as he jogged downstairs grabbed his keys and stormed towards his car. He was going to confront Ryan once and for all and force him to tell him the truth. If there was anyone who knows if he was dating or seeing anyone, it would be Ryan. He entered the key and turned on the ignition...NOTHING. Angrily, he tried again and again, trying to start the engine, but it was a lost cause. It was probably something to do with last night, when he left Franzette and drove home like a man possessed. FUCK...he probably damaged the radiator or the battery or shit like that. He pulled the key out, got out himself and smashed the door closed. With the impact, he dropped his car keys to the ground. When he picked it up, he saw it. It was so small, he nearly missed it. On the key chain, there was three keys, one belonged to the front door, the other to the back door and the remaining one was the car key. But...there was a small, plastic ring on the chain aswell...
Werner's curiousity got the best of him and with lightning speed he had twisted the little ring off the key chain and held it in his hands. Was this his? Well...it HAD to be because why else would be on HIS key chain? He tried to imagine why he would own a plastic ring but nothing came to mind. He looked down at this fingers...the only one who was remotely big enough to fit the small ring was his pinky finger...he took the little ring and placed it over it...
Ryan was pouring himself some Coke when the front door bell rang. He put the bottle back in the fringe and opened the door. It was a furious Franzette.
"What the hell did you plant in Werner's head, you fucking faggot? Suddenly he's asking questions and shit!"
"Hey stop the wagon, I didn't tell him anything! I haven't even seen him since last night. And even then, he all but chased me away from him. You won, Franzette. You wanted him, now you got him. For your sake, I just hope he doesn't get his memory back."
"So what if he does! You and me both know being labelled gay in this town is social suicide! Either he stays with me, or I'll reveal EVERYTHING! You better make sure he comes back to me!"
"Jeez...you are CRUEL beyond imagining! To think I actually felt sorry for you when I saw you along in the library at break times without any friends, or when you slipped on that banana peel in the cafeteria with your lunch covering your dress! I never thought you were such a heartless BITCH! It doesn't even worry you, or bother you that I love Werner! And that deep inside, he still LOVES me!"
"Oh shut the hell up! Gay love is a SIN! All of you are unnatural, evil freaks! God made Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve! And one day, when Judgement Day arrives, the Lord will thank me for rescuing Werner from the likes of YOU!"
"Oh yeah...Werner needs protection...from you that is. Tell me what's worse...two boys that are truly in love with one another, or a pcycho bitch blackmailing someone to be with her?"
"Don't you dare talk to me like that, you homosexual freak! Werner is MINE!!"
"HEY WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE??"
Both Franzette and Ryan swung around and saw Werner standing in the frontdoor, his face utterly confused.
"Werner! You SAVED me! He was threatening to attack me because of our relationship! He's jealous, he's gay and he wants you!"
Franzette stood there, looking ever so smugly at Ryan. Ryan took two deep breaths. Franzette had just outted him right infront of Werner. He was so tired pretending. He was so tired not having the love of his life with him. Suddenly he was glad Franzette just spilled the beans. He couldn't handle this anymore.
"Is this true, Ryan? Are you...are you GAY?" Werner asked. There was not any sign of emotion on his face. Ryan folded his arms, his face in terrible emotional pain...and slowly nodded.
"See! I TOLD you!! He's a freak! Come on, honey. Lets get the hell out of here," Franzette said, taking Werner's arm. But Werner didn't budge. He just stood there, looking straight at Ryan.
Then he stretched out his arm and opened his hand. In the palm, layed the little plastic ring. Ryan's eyes started to water as he looked slowly from the ring to Werner. He cleared his throat...
"You said it was getting too small for your pinky finger. That's why you attached it to the key ring..." he whispered, wiping his tears away.
"OKAY...what the hell is going on here?" Franzette yelled at the top of her voice. She had a sneaking suspiction however...
But Werner didn't even hear her. He walked over to Ryan, the ring still clutched in his hand. His voice was trembling aswell...
"Why...why do I feel so attracted to you...?" he whispered, looking deep into Ryan's eyes.
Before Ryan could answer, his head was smashed by huge glass vase! The pieces of glass sliced and spilled over his scalp as his eyes rolled back in their cases. Ryan stood still for a few seconds, before tumbling to the floor. Franzette was standing behind where Ryan was seconds before, her arms still lifted to the sky from slamming the vase onto him.
Before Werner could react, she stormed out of the house. Finally Werner got to his sences and kneeled over Ryan. He was lying very, very still. Frantically Werner ran to the telephone in the den (never mind how he knew it was in there) and called his dad.
"Dad! Dad! Ryan was hurt, seriously! Please call an ambulance, quick!! Yes, hurry!"
He stormed back to Ryan and pushed a cushion underneath his bleeding head before grabbing his hand and holding it tight. Oh God...please let Ryan be okay!!
As he held Ryan's hand...it struck him like lightning. There was a previous time...this had happened before...him holding Ryan's hand...this wasn't the first time!
