Previous Chapter: Werner had woken up from his coma, but as the doctors and Werner's own father predicted, he had no memory who his best friend and lover, Ryan was. He could also not remember his father, which drove him to lash out and that to both his father and Ryan. The neurosurgeon who operated on him introduced him to her daughter, Franzette, who quickly filled Werner in on what was going on. She also made up a total lie, stating that she and Werner had been having a secret relationship, that not even his best friend Ryan knew about. Ryan tried to jog Werner's memory with old photos from their times together, without any success. Jacob Cleverley, Werner's father, had also pleaded with Ryan not to reveal to Werner that they are gay and in a relationship with eachother, just yet. Can Werner remember his life long best friend and the love of his life in this chapter? Lets find out!*
Chapter 3
Werner watched the bedroom door swing open before him and it took a while before he had the courage to enter. He walked slowly into the room, stopping almost right in the middle of it, and allowed his gaze to wander over what he saw. Trophies won at Rugby and Soccer tournaments, certificates of school academy excellence, numerous posters of sportsmen and women blasted over the walls, a big screen TV with loads of DVD and Blue Ray disks stashed near to it, built in cupboards with loads of teenage boy clothes and a huge queen sized bed placed next to the wall. Werner tried as hard as he could to find some familiarity inside these four walls. He was told that this was his room afterall.
Nothing. Not a single thing in this entire bedroom triggered one single flashback or memory. He heard a noise behind him and saw the dude who was supposedly his best friend, Ryan Black. The latter entered the room and sat straight onto the bed.
"I was hoping that your room would help you remember something, but from the look on your face, I guess I was wrong, hey?" he said with a sad smile.
"I didn't ASK for this!!" Werner yelled out at him and slammed his fist into the nearest cupboard. The sound of splintered wood could be heard downstairs as was the impact from Werner's emotions at this whole ordeal.
"Why the fuck can't I remember anything? WHY?? How long is this gonna take??" Werner whispered more to himself than to Ryan.
"Dude, you just gotta be patient, okay? You really smashed your head hard when that Mercedes ran you over. Just try and sorta...I don't know...make the best of it."
"What part of losing my memory, having no fucking clue who I am, can be classified as "the best of it?", you retard!" Werner lashed out and stormed out of the room. Ryan placed his head in his hands. Werner had never, ever spoken to him like that before. He knew that technicially, this person wasn't his best friend from the past fifteen years, but still...it didn't hurt any less by hearing it. He stood up and followed Werner out of the room. He would succeed in getting the love of his life back. Even if it kills him.
Ryan stayed for a little while, but it was quite clear that Werner didn't want him there, nor was he in the mood for idle chatter. Later, Ryan stood up and said goodbye, and Werner just nodded and walked outside to the swimming pool. Ryan's eyes began to water. He had this terrible feeling that he was slowly but surely losing Werner for good. Werner didn't know who he was, had no recollection of anything that happened between them, all the good times, all the sleep overs, all the kissing, the loving moments between them...they were all gone. Left was this person who didn't seem to want Ryan around him.
After Jacob made their dinner, it was Werner's turn to ask him a couple of awkward questions.
"Do I have a mother?"
"Uhm...yeah buddy, sure you have, why do you ask?"
"Its just you and that Ryan guy have been pushing yourselves down my throat ever since got out of that coma I was in, but no one has come to me, telling me they are my mom. Is she dead or something?"
Jacob took a deep breath. He seriously wanted to tell Werner the truth so that it was done, but the doctor warned him that too much too soon, could further damage his son. He placed his hands on the table before, fully aware that they were shaking.
"Son...your mom and you didn't get on well before your accident. You did something that she wasn't proud of and couldn't handle. After she heard that you were in a coma, she took her stuff and fled. I have no idea where she is, and I have no intention of going to the police to report her missing. You see...she told me that the accident...MAY have been as a result of a fight you guys had the morning before you were run over."
"What the hell?? Are you for real, old man? What could I have done to fuck this woman up so bad to upset me so much that I was run over?" Werner fumed.
"Werner, I cannot tell you..."
"Like hell you cannot tell me, because its not true, is it??"
"Don't you dare speak to me like that, Son!"
"Or what, old man? You're gonna run me over so I get my memory back?"
For the first time since Werner woke up from his coma, Jacob was speechless. This was the first time ever that his son had insulted him willingly like this. He gently and slowly stood up and walked to his room, closing the door behind him, trying hard not to be listening to Werner scream out his frustrations to the empty room. He didn't hear Werner rushing out of the front door either.
"Oh my word...Werner! This is a nice surprise! Come on in."
"Thank you, Ms Volhanten. Is Franzette home?"
"Yeah, she's in the den watching TV. Its around that left corner and straight on your right."
The moment Werner saw Franzette stretched out on her back on the sofa, was the moment that he knew he was safe and that she could be trusted. She was his girlfriend, albeit a secret one. That was so about to change.
"Hey," he whispered as he kneeled beside her.
"Oh wow...Werner? What are you doing here this late?" Franzette asked, her face lighting up seeing the boy she loved in her home.
"I...I just HAD to get out of that house. My so called dad and best friend are driving me insane. I hope you don't mind."
"Not at all, dude! Im so glad you came over..."
Werner was seriously beginning to get hard from being so close to Franzette. Smelling her perfume. Watching her female curves and her womanhood drew him ever closer to her. She was so beautiful.
"Hey...you wanna go somewhere tomorrow night? Just you and me?" he asked, his hormones on full alert right now. Franzette couldn't believe her luck and that she had gotten away with all this.
"I thought you'd never ask!" she whispered and slowly leaned in towards him. She carefully placed her soft, supple lips upon his own, and held the kiss for about 10 seconds before she heard footsteps coming down to the den.
"Here you are, I brought you some Iced Tea and Tuna Mayonaise sandwiches. You guys enjoy. Franzette, just remember you have school tomorrow," Ms Volhanten said before smiling and turning her back to leave.
"I suppose I should also be going tomorrow. I have to hear when I can re-write my exams. Not that I fucking remember ever going to classes," Werner sighed, taking a huge sip from his Iced Tea. It was Peach flavour. He usually liked Lemon, but he didn't complain. He was thirsty.
"Yeah, but I don't think they will have a problem with that, you can't help..."
OH MY GOSH!!! Werner suddenly sat up and held his Iced Tea to his face. Franzette stopped talking as she watched him. He carefully took another sip and savoured the Peachy goodness sliding down his throat. Once again, the realization spilled over him. HE PREFERRED THE LEMON FLAVOUR!! He remembered something!!!
"Werner...you're kinda freaking me out, what's going on?" Franzette asked.
"I remember..."
"Remember what?" Franzette asked, her voice shaking. Oh fuck...what if he remembers his past and that she is NOT really his girlfriend?? FUCK, she would be humiliated beyond belief!
"When I tasted the Iced Tea, i recalled in my head somehow that I liked the taste, but would have preferred the lemon flavour! Franzette, don't you get it?? Its something small, but I remembered it!"
"Honey, that's awesome. I knew you would have sometime." Franzette desperately tried to hide how she was really feeling. It would seem his memory was on its way back. Damn Mom for giving him that fucking Iced Tea!
"Now all I need to remember is the thought of me and you together, loving eachother. Then my life will be complete..." Werner whispered and gave her another earth shattering kiss, leaving Franzette totally dazed. So that's what it feels like to be kissed for the first time...she thought as she floated on air. This was gonna work. If she can make him madly in love with her by the time he regains his memory, he would NEVER leave her again. This WAS gonna work.
"Hey buddy, what are you doing here? You should be resting, dude!" Ryan said when he saw Werner standing at the front desk next to the Principal's office the next morning. He had a bottle of water with him since the weather was getting extremely hot. They were only at school to fetch their end of year reports after all.
"I didn't write exams this year, Ryan. You want me not to do anything about it?" Werner said without even looking at the latter. Another flash of hurt blasted over Ryan's face. He shook his head and started to walk away, before he turned around once more...one more time...
"You wanna come over this afternoon? Shoot some hoops, play some PS Vita?"
"No thanks. Im going out with my girlfriend."
It was just at that moment that Ryan decided to take a sip of water, which he viciously SPAT out after hearing Werner say those words. He gained a few strange and strict looks from the teachers and staff walking by but Ryan couldn't really care less.
"What...what the hell did you just say?"
Werner finally looked straight at Ryan...and it wasn't a friendly one.
"Yeah man...you got a problem with that?"
Ryan was stunned. He took a couple of deep breaths and more sips of water to calm him down. His chest was positively heaving up and down out of sheer anger and dissapointment. He had to remind himself several times that Werner had amnesia...he didn't know what he was doing or how it affected Ryan.
"Who is this...this girlfriend, dude? I wasn't aware you even had one?" Ryan said, choosing his words very carefully.
"Clearly we weren't as close as you want me to believe then. Not that it has anything to do with you, but im going out with Franzette Volhanten. Sorry, I gotta go," Werner said as the Prinicipal's secretary signaled to him that he could enter the office. Ryan was left with an empty water bottle in his hand...aswell as a broken heart.
Franzette was getting ready for her big date with Werner that evening. Her mom gave her some money and she was ready to impress her sexy new "boyfriend". She did extra trouble with her hair and make up aswell as her clothes. She was shocked when she was done. She certainly never looked quite like this before! But now that he had Werner in the palm of her sneaky little hand, she was NOT about to let him go. When she heard the front door bell ring, she froze. She was no where NEAR ready!! She still wanted to paint her nails and everything! She turned around in agony as her mother enter her room.
"Hey honey...there's a boy here wanting to speak with you. Ryan Black. Wow...you are AWESOME, darling!" Ms Volhanten said before she left. Franzette's heart quickened. If Ryan was here...it could only be for one reason and one reason only.
"Hi Ryan. Didn't expect to see you here," she said as she entered the living room where the latter was not so patiently waiting. Ryan stood up and grabbed her wrist almost painfully.
"What the hell are you playing at, Franzette?" he demanded, his glare enough to cause some hesitation in the girl.
"I...I don't know what you mean," she said but Ryan wasn't born yesterday.
"YOU...have no business going out with Werner. Before his accident he didn't even know about your existance, let alone went out with you! And now suddenly you are his girlfriend? Not even you aren't so stupid not to realize there's a pattern here which DOES NOT make sence! What rubbish did you plant in his head?"
"I did no such thing! Me and Werner were in a secret relationship LONG before his accident! I wanted to keep in secret because he was Mr Popular, the exact opposite that I am! I told him not to even tell YOU, his best friend, about it!"
Ryan grabbed Franzette with both his arms and pushed her against the living room wall.
"You lying bitch...Werner would NEVER in a million years date YOU!"
"Let me go! And you know this for a fact?"
"Yeah I fucking do!"
"How?"
"Because he was dating me! OH FUCK...." Ryan groaned as he realised way too late that he had probably just made the biggest mistake of his life. He placed his head in his hands. FUCK...what did he just do?? Franzette however, looked like male dog in heat between tons of bitches.
"Oh. My. GOSH. You and Werner? Not only best friends...but lovers aswell?? Boy...I bet the whole school would LOVE to find out about that..."
Exactly what Ryan expected her to say. He knew the minute he blabbed out the truth that it was going to come to this. He sunk down onto the expensive couch, totally defeated. Franzette, very careful not to mess up her dress, sat down beside him.
"I know exactly how you feel, Ryan. I have loved Werner ever since I was 12 years old. I knew he would never even look at me. Im not sexy enough, and classy enough and popular enough to do that. That's why I took my chance and told him a story that makes complete sense to him. And you bet your sweet ass I'm not letting him go. If you tell Werner the truth, I'll make sure that you and him will NEVER be able to show your faces at school again. The whole town will label you as GAY. You'll never be able to come back here without having to look over your shoulder. AND...judging from the fact that Werner instantly got a boner last night when he was here...I don't think he'll take this gay story of you and him too well right now. The ball is in your court, Ryan."
"What if he regains his memory and remembers everything?" Ryan asked, grasping for a last remaining piece of hope.
"Then I'll use this information to blackmail him aswell. Either he stays with me, or I'll reveal everything I know. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a date to finish up for."
While Franzette walked away with a smile on her face, Ryan felt a single tear gently rolling down his face. This fucked up town was NOT the most gay friendly place in the world. If they were ever thought of as gay, they would be literally treated like the plague. For the millionth time Ryan wondered just WHY this had to happen. And why now? He sadly wiped his tears and walked to the front door, and opened it, only to see Werner standing infront of him, his hand in the air from wanting to ring the bell.
"Hey Ryan...what are you doing here?" Werner asked, clearly confused.
"Werner...don't do this..." Ryan whispered, unable to control his emotions.
"If you're talking about going out with Franzette...jeez dude who are you to tell me NOT to go out with who I want?"
"Werner, you don't know what the fuck is going on..."
"Look Ryan, you may have been my best friend in the past, but you know what? I don't wanna do this anymore! Okay? Im sorry if it hurts you."
"Good Lord, you can't mean that! Fifteen years, Werner!
"Yeah well, I don't remember any of that. And quite frankly, Im not sure I even want to."
And with that, Werner gently side stepped Ryan and walked into the Volhanten's house, closing the door behind him. This cannot be happening...this can't be HAPPENING!! But as Ryan walked away he knew that it was the sheer reality. He had lost Werner...
Franzette felt like she was dreaming the whole entire evening. They went to the cinema and watched Madea's Witness Protection. He then insisted on treating her at MacDonalds before he took her home. She spent nearly nothing of the money her mom gave her. For Werner, this night had been a revelation. He now knew his name was Werner Cleverley and that he had a hot girlfriend named Franzette. And wasn't she beautiful! That was all he needed to know for now. The story his father told him about his mom...that was a different story. He didn't WANNA know anything about that.
Werner parked his dad's car infront of Franzette's house, got out and quickly ran over to the other side to open the door for her. For both teenagers it had been a wonderful evening. Werner gently reached for her soft hand and took it in his. He caressed her fingers with with his own.
"Kiss me..." Franzette pleaded and Werner immediately placed his lips on hers.
Immediately Werner, as if something had just shocked volts of electricity through his body, jumped back and away from Franzette. He reached upwards and held his head in his hands, feeling a little drowzy. Just as Franzette came closer to find out what was wrong, Werner jumped into his dad's car and sped off, leaving the sceaming girl staring back at him with confusion and some tears in his eyes.
Werner drove him as fast as he possibely could. He nearly crashed the car entering their drive way, and got out at the speed of lightning. He took some deep breaths, trying to process what the fuck just happened...
The moment he kissed Franzette, he knew that somehow, somewhere, and by someone, he had been kissed WAY more passionately and lovingly before tonight. And he was sure that it was NOT Franzette who had kissed him like that before. He held his head between his fingers, gently rubbing his temples...and suddenly, like a train gliding past you on the tracks, only for a few seconds, he relived THAT earth shattering kiss he remembered the moment he kissed Franzette. That kiss was full of love. Full of promise and hope. Whoever it was in his forgotten past, which had kissed him like THAT...they had his heart now and forever. He was sure of it. But WHO could it be?
