I don't know the Backstreet Boys, or N'Sync, nor is this story meant to imply anything about their sexuality, their private lives or their life choices. Please don't take any of this seriously, it is just a story, nothing more. Nothing in this story is real, it is the product of the author's imagination. That's enough disclaimers I think...
Now some suggestions, seeing as everyone else seems to be doing it. My favourite stories are: Forever (Kevin) My New Life (Lance) JC's Hitchhiker (JC) Get Another Boyfriend (Kevin) Whiplash (Kevin) Blind Date (Lance) My Surprise Romance (Lance) Josh and Just (Duh!) Lottery Winner (Joey) Jamie's Romance (Justin) Brian and Me (Brian) That's it, I know there are more I read that I haven't mentioned, but I can't remember them right now, sorry! Well, here's chapter 39...
On The Streets - Part 39
Last Time:
"'S funny, I'm normally a really light sleeper, normally people can't move me while I'm sleeping without me waking up." Kevin just shrugged. Then I realised what it was. I walked up behind Kevin and put my arms around his waist, and he tipped his head back onto my shoulder. I nuzzled my nose and lips into the base of his neck, and kissed and sucked there. "I know why - I trust you." I told him. I'd realised that was the only way anyone would be able to move me while I was sleeping - I'd never trusted anyone enough before to touch me while I was sleeping, while I was sure that in Kevin's arms, I'd be safe. He smiled and twisted his head towards mine. We kissed, and I wrapped my arms more tightly around his waist. "I love you Kevin." I said as we pulled apart.
"Love you too." He replied, barely moving his lips. The fat in the pan on the stove hissed just then, and we were brought out of our own little world, and Kevin went back to cooking while I sat down at the table, and waited.
Now, on with the story:
Kevin's Point of View<<<
I came in this morning to a big surprise - all the guys were there before me - I was the last one in! I've never been the last one in! They were all waiting for me outside the studio, and I had to smile when I saw them - Nick was blushing, Brian was scuffling his feet, AJ was playing with the hem of his shirt, and Howie was whistling - all sure signs that they're up to something. I smirked and shook my head, and when they saw me, they all realised what they were doing and stopped suddenly. Hmmm, maybe I should never have told them they all have giveaways for when they're up to something.
"Hi guys." I said quietly. They all replied in their own way. "So, what's up?" I asked them. They all shrugged at the same time. God, they're so predictable. I was going through all the possibilities - one of Nick's pranks perhaps. I'd send Nick into the studio first - I wasn't gonna have a bucket falling on my head! "Shall we go in then?" They all nodded with smiles on their faces - it was one of Nick's pranks! "After you Nick." I said with a smirk.
"No, no, no, after you Kevin." Nick said with a big grin.
"No, I insist." I said, motioning with my arms for him to go in.
"But, I mean, no Kevin, you've got to go first." Nick replied.
"Nick." I said scolding Nick. I knew I sounded like an old man when I did that voice, but it got results.
"Look Kevin, just go in." Howie said calmly. I'd never really heard him use that voice, it was like he was pleading, but still he was obviously happy about something. I nodded my head to him, then reached for the door handle. I turned it, and walked in, tensing up for the water to splash onto my head or something. Nothing came. I opened my eyes.
"SURPRISE!" There was about twenty people in the room, looking around, I saw everyone who had worked on the album, the sound guys, the mixers, the engineers, everybody. I looked around with a shocked expression on my face. What was everyone doing here? So I asked.
"Err...hi? What's everyone doing here?" I asked.
"We knew you wouldn't realise." Mike, the chief sound engineer started.
"We're ahead of schedule Kevin, the work will finished on the album within the next couple of hours, and well, some idiot ordered an ice cream cake to celebrate. There wasn't room to put it in the freezer, so...surprise!" Asa, another one of the sound engineers filled me in.
"Awww, Geez guys, but why are you throwing it for me? Why were all the other guys waiting outside for me?"
"Cos it's your album Kev! You wrote almost all of it, and it's amazing Kev. We love it, and we love you man." Brian hugged me, and I smiled over his shoulder at everyone. I couldn't believe all these people had done this - the grin on my face was actually painful. I looked around, and saw all the people smiling at me. Brian eventually let go, and I hugged the other guys, and everyone else in the room either shook my hand or hugged me, a couple of the women who had helped on the album gave me a kiss on the cheek, and we generally just laughed and joked about it.
"Ummm, guys, this cake, is err...melting?" Debbie the assistant mixer said. She was right. The ice cream filling to the cake was dripping out underneath, and was dripping off the edge of the tray it was on. We decided we'd better cut it now. So, someone passed me a knife, and just as I touched the knife to the cake, I heard someone take a big breath. I took it away.
"AJ! No screaming!" I said in a stern tone. His shoulders slumped, and he let out the breath. He always had to scream whenever someone cut a cake - oh yeah, birthdays were great fun with him - as long as you have no eardrums. I put the knife back on to the cake, and just started to cut in, and all of a sudden, everyone in the room screamed. I looked up at AJ, and realised he was the only one who was silent. He had a small smirk on his face - he'd arranged this in advance. Bastard. I smirked at him, and as my ears died down from the ringing, I finished cutting the cake. We started to slice it up, and hand come around on plastic plates. I remembered Jared really loved ice cream, and he was missing out on this.
"You're thinking about Jared aren't you?" Nick said behind me. I turned and found him and Brian standing there.
"Yeah, how'd you know?"
"Cos he loves ice cream, and that's what you're eating, and he's not here." I nodded, but these two both had smirks on their faces.
"Don't worry Kev, we've got it sorted." Brian added.
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Just trust us, oh yeah and make sure you're at home, at 8 o'clock, and don't eat dinner before then!" Nick said, waving a finger in my face. I gave him a sceptical look, then went back to the cake.
Jared's Point of View<<<
I didn't actually have a session in the morning, but I came in with Kevin anyway, as it was easier than coming in a few hours later. It was a welcome break actually - I got all my paperwork done. About 12:20, I was expecting the people to start coming in for one of the lunch time sessions. I like the 12:30 session - the easiest one, it tends to be the people who are basically happy with how they look, but want to lose some weight, or just be healthier. The middle session is the people who are unhappy with how they look. The final session is basically a load of me's . It's a maniacal work out that even gets me a pump. Just before the 12:30 people started coming in, there was a knock at the door to the studio - not the one leading to the changing rooms, but the other door, leading out to the rest of the Jive building. I was a bit surprised - people hardly ever came in that way, and if they did, they didn't bother to knock!
"Come in?" I said, hardly believing still that anyone would bother knocking. "Come in!" I shouted again, as no one came in. Another small knock came on the door. Finally huffing and puffing, I stood off the table, and walked over to the door. I swung the door open, and a short woman with black hair was on the other side. "Can I help you?"
"Err...I'm not sure. Mr Healey?"
"Yeah, that's me."
"My name is Janet Dakes." She started. "Somebody recommend that I come to one of your sessions." She'd put on a confident front - when I'd first swung the door open, she seemed almost scared.
"Ok, well you need to get changed. The changing rooms are the next door down, and then you come back in through the side entrance." I tried to smile as friendlily as possible, but she still had a look of apprehension in her eyes - I noticed she didn't have a gym bag with her. As I looked up and down, I realised she was out of shape. I don't mean seriously - she probably wasn't a health risk or anything, in fact I hadn't seen any employees here who were so bad as to be health risks, but she was definitely overweight. She had a really pretty face, slightly heart shaped, and small lips. Her nose was quite large, but it suited her face, and her deep brown eyes.
"I was wondering if I could talk to you after the session?" She asked.
"Well, I have three sessions in a row - all half hour sessions, which last till 2." I paused. "You could come see me then.
"Hmmm...no, I'll be back to work by then." She stood thoughtfully for a minute.
"Well, if you want, I could drop by your department, and speak to you there?" I asked. Maybe if she couldn't come see me, I could see her. I guessed what it was - she had concerns about how hard the sessions would be, I'd had a few people ask this, but it normally worked out ok.
"Would you? I really do need to talk to you, ummm, I'm in Public Relations, we're on the fourth floor. If you could drop by after your last session, after 2, that would be wonderful."
"Sure, I'll drop by to see you then." I smiled to her again.
"Ok, thank you Mr. Healey." She smiled.
"Please, call me Jared, and you're welcome."
"Ok, Jared, I'll see you at 2. Bye!" She said with a smile, and I closed the door. As it shut, I heard her release a breath, she'd been scared! Of talking to me? I guess Kevin's not the only one who can intimidate people!
I ran through the lunchtime sessions. The last one wasn't as hard today as normal, maybe it was all the sleep I got last night, even if my legs did ache a bit still from all that running with Jeff. Straight after the final session, I had to go see Miss Dakes straight away, as I had an N'Sync session that afternoon. I ran up the four flights of stairs to the fourth floor, and came out and looked around. There was like a reception area on each floor, so I walked up to the one here. "Hi, I'm looking for Janet Dakes?" I said as I approached the desk. The receptionist looked up at me, then nodded and turned to the computer.
"Janet Dakes did you say?"
"Yes." I answered.
"You're on the wrong floor, she's on the fourth floor."
"I thought I was on the fourth floor."
"No, this is the fifth floor." He answered, a smirk spreading across his face.
"Ah. Woops." I said, then walked back to the stairwell, and went down. I remembered as I was going down that the floors are numbered differently in the US - the ground floor is the first floor, the first floor is the second floor... I felt so stupid just then. I walked out onto the right floor, and walked up to the reception desk. "Hi, I'm here to see Janet Dakes?" The receptionist at the desk looked up at me. It was then I realised that I probably didn't fit in very well up here - I was wearing a loose fitting wifebeater, and a pair of quite short shorts. The receptionist's jaw dropped, and I had to wave my hand in front of her face. "I'm here to see Janet Dakes, is she on this floor?" The receptionist continued staring, but nodded, and pointed down the corridor to the right. "Thank you." I looked up as I walked away, and saw a sign that said Public Relations on it hanging above my head. I followed the sign. Just as I was about to turn the corner, I turned back, and the receptionist was leaning over her desk, and staring at my butt. I shook my head, and turned the corner. Then there was a big room - lots of desks laid out in rows, without dividing sections or anything. It reminded me of one of those old typing pools or something, but each desk had like a computer and filing cabinet, and other stuff on it. There were about thirty desks in total, almost all of them had women on them. This was the Public Relations department. I saw Janet, well, I think it was Janet from the back of her head, sitting about two rows back, over to the left. I walked down the central reservation, and felt peoples' eyes on me. I had a feeling like one of those early Christians being fed to the lions. I knew I shouldn't have come up here wearing quite so little, and this many women in the room, it felt kinda weird. Finally I reached Janet's desk.
"Miss Dakes?" I asked from behind her. She spun around, and saw me, and smiled. She flashed a gaze over the rest of the typing pool, and saw the eyes of everyone looking at me, probably wondering why I was there, or looking at my butt. I turned around, which just confirmed that. She sniggered beside me.
"I think you have a few admirers?" She said to me.
"Yeah, feel like I'm being undressed by about twenty pairs of eyes, pretty weird." I sniggered too. I crouched down by her desk so that we were basically level, and so that I was shielded from the majority of the people in the room. "So, what did you want to talk about?"
"Ummm...ok, where to begin? Ok." She pointed to a picture on her desk. In it was her, standing in front of what looked like the Golden Gate bridge. "That's my fiancée." Standing behind her, with his arms wrapped around her waist, was a tall man, maybe a foot taller than her, which made him about three inches taller than me. He was also very attractive, I mean incredibly attractive. He was rugged looking, and while I like Kevin's modellish good looks, this guy definitely was very hot. Janet was certainly a lucky woman. I raised my eyebrows to her, and she blushed slightly. "He's not bad is he?"
"Definitely not." I said with a grin.
"He's stationed on near Iraq at the moment, he's in the navy, and, well I want to lose weight before he gets back. He's coming back in two months, and I'd like to look as good as I can because we're getting married shortly after." She started. "Umm...I was wondering which sessions you think I should go to, and if possible, if you have any recommendations for diet? I don't eat that much, I just seem to pile on the pounds though." She said regretfully. I crouched thinking for a moment or two.
"Ok, I'll tell you what. I'll leave some papers with the receptionist. They're gonna be diet plans, a couple of question papers you need to fill out, I think that's it." I was really thinking, how can I help her? She seemed like a really nice lady, and I just wanted to help for some reason. "Can you take your lunch break when you want?" I asked her.
"Pretty much, we have 45 minute lunch breaks, and we can take them just about anytime around the middle of the day."
"Can you start it at about 2?" I asked.
"Sure."
"Good, if you come along after I've done my 1:30 session, then I can start you in on your own, and you'll get some one-on-one. Thing is most people aren't bothered about losing weight to quickly, but if you really want to lose weight, we can get off a lot more if we work together, ok?" She nodded. "Pick up those papers from front desk when you leave this evening, and I'll talk to you tomorrow at 2?"
"Ok, thank you Jared, so much, I'll speak to you then. Thank you again, bye!" She said as I stood up, and walked away from her desk. Once again, I felt the eyes on me. If I ever came up here again, I would have to wear more clothes.
My N'Sync session started at about 2:45, shortly after I had got back down from seeing Janet. We warmed up, and started stretching and everything, and then launched into the workout proper. This was an hour long workout. About 4:00, we were just stretching off again, and cooling down, doing a slow jog around the studio. "Oh yeah Jared, did the execs tell you about how we can't make it on Friday?" Chris asked. They hadn't.
"No, they didn't mention it, but you're coming to Britney's concert right?" I asked them. She'd told me they were coming when she invited me.
"We can't make it." Justin said sullenly.
"Why not?" I asked.
"Management wants us to make a couple of publicity appearances in LA this weekend. We have to fly out on Friday to be there on time." Chris filled in.
"Hey, how did you know we were going to Britney's concert?" Justin asked.
"She invited me." I told him.
"Oh right, so have you worked out how you're getting up there?" Justin asked.
"No, not yet, I was planning on letting Kevin do that." I said with a smirk.
"Well I've still got my ticket, is Kevin going with you? I'm sure one of the guys still has their ticket for him?"
"Kevin's not going. He and the guys are taking AJ out somewhere." I filled them in. "But I still wanted to go, and I didn't think I'd really fit in going out with that lot to something for AJ."
"Oh. Well, you can still have my plane ticket."
"Justin, you were supposed to cancel that." Lance scolded him.
"Yeah well...Jared's sorted out now, so it all worked out in the end, didn't it?" He said with a cheesy grin. "We're all going up to Britney's concert in New Orleans in a couple of weeks. I'm kinda angry management didn't tell us about that publicity thing in LA, but..." He trailed off, and after a few moments of thought, shrugged his shoulders. We had been jogging round through all this in a group around the dance studio, and I peeled off the group and walked over to the table. I pulled out my schedule, and went to Friday. N'Sync were the only ones! I crossed through them. Then I remembered the papers for Janet. I quickly went through my bags, sorted out an easy diet regime, and a couple of question forms.
"I'll be right back." I told the guys, then I ran out the room, and ran up to the lobby desk where I dropped off the papers, and told them Miss Dakes would be there to pick them up later. Then I ran back, and rounded up the N'Sync session. Finally, home time. Justin said I could come by and pick up the ticket anytime, he was home until they left for LA, and I agreed. By the time I got back, the guys were just walking out of the changing room, wearing their normal clothes. I said goodbye to them all, Justin said he'd see me again later today or tomorrow, I agreed, and they left. It was almost time for me to meet Kevin, so I packed up all my stuff, and started the walk to his studio.
I bumped into Pete Richardson coming out of one of the offices on the way there, and he said what a great workout he'd had today. He had started coming into the middle lunchtime sessions, and he was pretty fit. I said goodbye to him, and came to the studio the guys were in. I knocked on the door and walked in to the booth. Kevin, AJ and Brian were in there. I looked around and saw Nick and Howie sitting on a couch behind the door. I smiled at them all, and Kevin asked me in.
"Hey Jar', come over here." Kevin said. "I want you to listen to this." I took the offered headphones, and put them on. The music coming out was pretty good, slightly bluesy, with a touch of pop, and some soul mixed in. It also had a heavy bass line. I bopped my head to the music, and when Kevin stopped it, I looked up. "What do you think?" He asked.
"That's cool. What is it?" He smiled at me.
"It's one of ours, it's off our new album." He paused. "I think that's gonna be the one we release first as a single." He smiled at me.
"Great."
"We're done. The album's recorded." He grinned at me. Already? That was quick.
"So what have you guys got to do now?" I asked them.
"Well, we've got two weeks before the first single's due out, so we're gonna be doing the video in about a week's time, and we've got to do a couple of appearances, get a couple of photo shoots in, sort out the final remixes of the song, and talk to a couple of the executives." Nick reeled off. He grinned as he realised that his list meant very little to me, and I just guessed they had a lot to do to get ready. Kevin stood up, and the other guys all jumped up too.
"Time to call it a day?" Brian asked.
"Yep. Let's go." Kevin practically ordered, then he grabbed my hand, and pulled me out of the room. We all walked out of the building together, and then said goodbye to one another in the parking lot. Kevin and I drove home, talking about this and that. He was really happy about the new album. He told me about the party the guys had thrown for him that morning, and apologised he couldn't save any cake, cos it was ice cream cake, which just made me whine even more, cos he knows I love ice cream. We got home, and I went upstairs to change into better clothes, and to have a shower, I was starting to stink a bit.
By the time I got down, it was 6, and Kevin was watching the News in the living room. They were reporting on the Iraqi conflict, and they had a map on the screen of troop locations across Iraq. I sat down next to Kevin, and ignored what was on the TV. "What shall we do for supper." I half-whispered into his ear. Kevin muted the television.
"Oh yeah, Nick and the guys told me this morning that because we couldn't be together for that party and everything, they'd arrange something for us to do this evening, they told me that we should be here at 8, and we shouldn't have eaten before." Kevin told me.
"Oh. 8? Kinda late, well, I guess that's pretty nice of them. So, what do you want to do till then?" I asked him. He turned off the TV, and turned to me, and then grinned wolfishly. He leaned over and kissed me on the lips. Then he moved down a bit lower, and kissed my neck. I chuckled at him being his horny self.
Just before 8, the doorbell rung, and Kevin jumped up from his position, lying on top of me, to answer it. When he did, two women in their late twenties, and a man probably in his early forties walked straight in, without waiting to be asked.
"Hey! What do you think you're doing? Who the hell are you?" Kevin shouted at them.
"Oh sorry Mr. Richardson, we were instructed by Mr. Carter to prepare your meal for you and Mr. Healey, and we were told to do so as quickly as possible. Were you not expecting us?" The first woman asked.
"Ummm...no." Kevin said.
"Oh, well, we have the food prepared and heated, if you'd care to sit down wherever you'd like to eat, we can bring it out and serve it for you, if you'd just show us where the kitchen is." Kevin pointed to the door down the passageway. I looked at him with a confused expression on my face. He just shrugged, and motioned me over to join him in the dining room. We sat down opposite one another, and the second girl, the younger looking of the two brought in two silver candlesticks, and placed long, white candles in them, then lit them, brought in a vase with a carnation in, then brought in a wine, and offered some to Kevin, having laid out plates and cutlery. He nodded his head to her after he tasted it, and she filled both our glasses. About two minutes later, they came in with the food, it looked and smelt delicious. I think it was beef of some sort, but I couldn't tell what it had been flavoured with. It was delicious anyway. "Just call us if you need anything, we'll be in the kitchen to clean up and serve you the next course whenever you're ready." The first woman said. I carried on glancing at Kevin. Once they left, we started talking.
"The guys did all this because you finished your album?" I asked him.
"Yeah. I'm as surprised as you are." Kevin said with raised eyebrows. "They've never done anything like this before." He said. "But I'm happy they did." Kevin said with a grin on his face.
"Me too." I said, and Kevin reached across the table, and rubbed his thumb across the back of my hand. We started eating, and it was so good. I could've eaten this everyday of my life, and I would never have complained, but unfortunately, it was over all too soon. We called them, and told them we were done. I felt Kevin's foot under the table, and he was rubbing his sock-clad toes across the top of my foot, and it made me feel all mushy inside, and I carried on smiling at him. They brought us out our dessert, and it was this really delicious mousse, and ice-cream. I was in absolute heaven. Finally, we finished, and they took the plates, cleaned everything up, and said goodbye, and left.
It was as if they had never been there, except for the fact that our bellies were full. Kevin and I sat down contentedly in the living room, and stared for a moment at the opposite wall, both of us with our hands on our stomachs. Finally, we turned to one another, and just grinned. We leant over and kissed one another. I don't know about Kevin, but I almost groaned from the amount of food I'd consumed and how it was now stretching my stomach walls. We sat there for an hour or two, before deciding to go to bed.
TBC End of Chapter 39
Ok, that was a nice, undramatic chapter for you people out there who just like a bit of a storyline, but don't worry, there's drama coming up, come on, you didn't think this was gonna be a happy ever after story did you??? Anyway, I want to thank all the people who wrote to me on my last chapter - even I didn't know so many people read my story. One person said to me that 'for every person who does write to me, there are twelve lazy readers who can't be bothered'. Well, if that's true, then I think this story rivals the Bible as being one of the most read pieces of literature in the world! My inbox was almost full after I threatened everybody in the last chapter with ending the story! I hope the feedback doesn't die down, though I don't expect that much from this chapter. Next chapter: the Britney Concert...
